Join Kate and company as the boys discuss "Way of the Warrior Kid" by Jocko Willink, a decorated retired Navy SEAL, whose motto is, "You can do anything if you do the work.”Readers meet Marc, a 5th grader who can't swim, can't do pull-ups, and doesn't even know his multiplication facts. He has a false identity of being a wimp along with thinking he is dumb. His fixed mindset is holding Marc back until his Uncle Jake comes for a visit and Marc's training begins! This is something all parents and grandparents can do for their kids. Let them know that all problems and challenges can change for the better. Beginnings are difficult and often require a nudge or three : ) Once they start seeing the benefits of doing the work, they'll start pushing themselves. In the words of Uncle Jake, “Even if you can't perform at a high level, showing up and doing something is still a thousand times better than not showing up at all.” Doing the hard work to improve, no matter what, is how dreams turn into reality. “Discipline equals freedom.”By the end of the book, Marc has come up with his own warrior code. Are you ready to move forward? We're on a quest to read the best, won't you join us? Here's a link to Jocko's interview on why he wrote the book Jocko Willink and the Way of the Warrior KidLook for the movie in August!
Picking up where part one left off, Tom Bilyeu and Jocko Willink continue their far-reaching conversation, diving even deeper into the foundations of leadership, cultural transformation, and the surprising optimism Jocko sees for America's youth. Jocko shares behind-the-scenes stories about translating hard-won military discipline into bestselling children's books and a soon-to-be-released feature film—highlighting his belief that storytelling is a critical weapon for shaping culture and values. The dialogue expands to explore the realities of military and corporate leadership, the dangers of arrogance and ego within teams, and the mechanics of power in both politics and business. Tom and Jocko dissect the process behind leadership development, examine the “Machiavellian” truths of power dynamics, and reflect on the lived realities of command in combat. Listeners will gain fresh perspectives on humility, accountability, and what it truly means to step up as a leader—both in war and everyday life. We use the term ‘Prioritize and Execute' at the shop all the time. It's from Jocko's Laws of Combat. Find the priority and execute. Once complete, there's a new priority. Then you handle that. This is the antidote for overwhelm. It's easy to get bogged down with the big picture of getting everything done. You can't do it all at once. Take a step back to detach. That'll help you find the next step you need to take. This can be applied to all aspects of life. When you're feeling overwhelmed, detach, identify the priority, and run the play. Before you know it, you'll be moving forward. Forward movement generates momentum. Now you're off to the races.
In this powerful episode of "Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu," Tom sits down with former Navy SEAL commander, leadership expert, and bestselling author Jocko Willink for a compelling exploration of modern warfare, leadership, and human nature. Known for his no-nonsense approach to personal discipline and his frontline perspectives, Jocko offers listeners a rare glimpse into how he thinks about global conflicts like Ukraine, Russia, and the Israel-Hamas war—not from the comfort of theory, but from lived experience and profound strategic insight. Tom and Jocko unravel the unpredictable realities of war, the dangers of overconfidence in leadership, and the psychology that drives nations into protracted conflicts. They also examine the concept of "why America loses wars," the test of wills at the heart of every battle, and how who needs to win often determines the real outcome. Whether you care about geopolitics, leadership under fire, or just want to understand how values play out on the world stage, this is a conversation you don't want to miss. In this week's episode of Mount Mindset, we revisit one of the most talked-about and powerful books ever covered on the show: Jocko Willink's Discipline Equals Freedom: Field Manual. Why go back to it? Because discipline is the foundation of everything, and when people ask how to level up, how to break bad habits, or how to stop making excuses, it's always the same answer: discipline. But not the kind someone gives you - the kind you build from within.Drawing from personal insights, real-life examples (including lessons from my recent trio to Monaco for the Grand Prix), and Jocko's uncompromising wisdom, we go deep on:- What discipline really is (and isn't)- Where it comes from- How to develop it when motivation fades- Why “shortcuts” are killing your potential- How to handle negativity, excuses, and weak instincts- The difference between compromising with others vs. compromising with yourselfThis is the no-fluff, call-it-like-it-is kind of conversation that hits hard, and sticks. If you've been coasting, making excuses, or feeling stuck in your own head… this is your wake-up call.Let me know in the comments: What's your biggest excuse, and what's the first small action you're going to take to destroy it?

Episode 087 – Leading Through Chaos, Carrying the Burden, and Knowing When to Walk Away In this episode of the JP Dinnell Podcast, JP and Lucas deliver one of their most transparent and hard-hitting conversations yet — tackling what it means to lead when the burden gets heavy, the mission gets messy, and the relationships around you start shifting. Coming off a powerful FTX leadership training event, JP shares behind-the-scenes lessons on clarity under chaos, how most leaders fail when pressure hits, and why leadership isn't just about serving others — it's about protecting your standards, your team, and your time. They also dig into the hard truth about relationships: not everyone can go where you're going, and sometimes, leadership means cutting ties with people who don't align with your mission — even if they're good people.

Jordan B Peterson Podcast Key Takeaways No one starts strong, powerful, and confident; these are skills that must be developed and honed throughout life Better questions illuminate the path to a better life: By asking someone earnest questions, you confront your ignorance while also inviting them on an adventurous and playful journey of collaboration As a leader, the best approach is to bring your team with you on the journey of discoveryPay attention to your enemiesThey may reveal truths you would otherwise overlookIn their objections to your worldview, they may shed light on something that you could have done more effectively To enable decentralized command, leaders must rapidly develop subordinates into collaborative problem-solvers: the more decision-making ability is pushed down the ranks, the more agile and effective the organization becomes in a changing environment Hire super-competent people and offer them a thrilling deal so they are maximally motivated Leaders should seek distributed competence, not control: an effective manager makes himself irrelevant as quickly as possible Pay attention to the problems that cry out to you; it could be your destiny to solve that problem “If you punish the source within you that gives rise to ideas, it will stop producing ideas.” – Jordan B Peterson Make being creative the victor over all the competing temptations of lifeEnact discipline in your life so that your internal creativity can prevail The best leaders align their vision with their followers' interests; they inspire action by making others want to contributeRead the full notes @ podcastnotes.orgDr. Jordan B. Most people believe the only way to lead is to become the best at something. But what if great leadership means admitting you're not the best at anything?Jocko Willink believes the secret to his greatest achievements come down to one thing – humility. A retired Navy SEAL commander, Jocko served 20 years in the U.S. military, leading one of the most decorated special operations units through combat in the Iraq War. A New York Times bestselling author, podcast host, and entrepreneur, he now teaches those in the civilian world the skills he learned from his time in the SEAL Teams. This was my first time meeting Jocko Willink, and we discussed why new leaders should never try to prove their own competence and the difference between tyrannical and open-minded leaders. This…is A Bit of Optimism. For more on Jocko and his work, check out:jocko.com
