In this episode: two CBC Tuesday night comedies for the price of one.First up is Andrew Pfung and company from Run The Burbs (Tues. on CBC). The sitcom returns for a third season with Rakhee Morzaria, who plays Camille, joining Phung on this round-table chat, along with showrunners Jennica Harper and Nelu Handa. We start off talking yard sales, the focus of the season three premiere. "Almost all the ideas on the show come from a very real place," says Phung. Also noted is how the kids on the series (played by Zoria Wong and Roman Pesino) are growing up and are more involved in storylines. And, yes, hip hop neighbour Kardinal Offishall returns as himself.Phung also says he was pleased by the response to such a diverse family from viewers watching in the U.S. last season on The CW. "We have such nice comments on the specify and the representation of this family." In the second half of this episode, meet standup comedian D.J. Demers along with showrunner Jessie Gabe, the team behind CBC's One More Time.Demers worked at a Play it Again sports store his last three years of high school in Kitchener, Ont. The experience "stuck in my brain and I drew inspiration from it all these years later to make the show." Demers has worn hearing aides since he was four years old. Back in the sporting goods store, he learned to keep customers in front of him so they wouldn't think he was ignoring them. "I didn't want anybody going to my boss and saying, 'What's with that teenage asshole?'"Like his character, he never learned American Sign Language."I grew up in a hearing family and went to a regular school, so I never was exposed to it," he says.Among the people he did hear from were the casting folks on Conan O'Brien's former late night talk show, who invited Demers on three times. He's also been featured at Just for Laughs in Montreal. Also starring is Geri Hall (This Hour has 22 Minutes), Dan Beirne and Elise Bauman. One More Time airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on CBC, immediately before Run the Burbs.

For this, the last show of 2022, Andi and Lise watched some LGBTQ Holiday (Christmas) movies based on a list published by Cosmopolitan Magazine (we know. We were all “WHAT?” too). They chat about the movies they saw, and throw out some other recommendations (also on the list). And also, Happy Holidays to all y'all! Cosmopolitan list of LGBTQ movies list HERE. Lise: A New York Christmas Wedding (2020) – Alt-timeline to show the lead what could have been. None of this should have worked, but somehow it did. Nia Fairweather as the lead and Adriana DeMeo as the love interest. Majority Black and Latinx cast. Trailer HERE. See it on Netflix. Under the Christmas Tree (2021) – classic holiday rom-com tropes, but really cute film and the leads have great chemistry. Elise Bauman as the lead, Tattiawna Jones as the love interest, and fun supporting cast including Ricki Lake. Trailer HERE. See it on Hulu. Let it Snow (2019) – Rom-com based on the 2008 YA novel Let it Snow: Three Holiday Romances, the film follows 6 people in the same town during a snowstorm and their evolving stories. Fun. Trailer HERE. See it on Netflix. Andi: Christmas at the Ranch (2021) – another classic holiday rom-com trope by Tello Films: city girl returns to the ranch where she grew up to try to save it from financial trouble. Fluffy with fun characters. Laur Allen as the city girl and Amanda Righetti as the ranch hand country mouse. Supporting characters include Lindsey Wagner (The Bionic Woman, y'all!) and Archie Kao. Trailer HERE. See it on Peacock, Prime, or Apple TV. The Bitch Who Stole Christmas (2021) – The drag show Christmas movie you've been waiting for. Hilarious, raunchy, over-the-top dragfest in which RuPaul as evil editor sends reporter to a small town to dig up dirt on its winter ball celebration, which features a cast of queens from Drag Race. Trailer HERE. Rent it on Apple TV; buy it on Prime. You can still find us on Twitter: @LGOPodcast, @andimarquette, @LiseMacTague. Also, Lise's latest book (paranormal werewolves!) drops just in time for Christmas! Find more info about Winter's Moons at Bella Books HERE! Shout-out to everybody this holiday season and we hope you find time to have some fun!
Episode 79: Under the Christmas Tree Happy holigays everyone! This year for our December episode we are talking about the very Lifetime Lifetime movie Under the Christmas Tree, which is the first Lifetime lesbian Christmas romcom (say it five times fast!). It stars queer lady darling Elise Bauman and Ricki Lake it takes place in Sarah's home state of Maine, which is kind of exciting and makes it so that we can clear up some misconceptions about, for example, how far Augusta is from Camden (spoiler: not far!!). This movie is really low-stakes and ridiculous and that is what's so fun about it. No thoughts, all vibes. Enjoy bbs!
Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called... a season finale! Yes, it's true, today's episode marks the end of the absolute blockbuster that was S2 of Wait, Is This A Date? To celebrate that ending, who better to come on and discuss the joys and successes of a long distance crush than actor and queer person Elise Bauman? Around these parts, she has another title that is nearly as vaunted: Drew's girlfriend! Yes, that's right, this sparkling twosome was birthed from the great queer tradition: the long distance crush. But what is it about the long distance crush that is so appealing to queers around the world? Is it the relative scarcity of like minded queers around you? Perhaps the ability to flirt long distance takes some of the pressure off? We get into all of it, AND Drew and Elise share some possibly TOO cute details about their relationship! And of course there is a game! This week, Christina makes Drew play the game that simply took over Twitter and Tiktok for a few fleeting weeks: "They're a 10 but..." It's a good time, all around! Sadly, its our last episode of Making the Yuletide Gay in Julay but we went out with a bang! This weeks movie is: Underneath the Christmas Tree starring Elise Bauman as Alma Beltran a Christmas loving lesbian slated to take over her family business until she meets Charlie Freemont played by Tattiawna Jones a tree whisperer that wants to procure the family fir (aka use the Beltran family tree at the state capital) against Alma's wishes. In this episode we contemplate whether croquembouche is a dirty word, wonder if the buzzing around town is the dildo factory testing product and Corinne adds an alternate ending to the movie that is pure Lifetime (spoiler: it involves an axe wielding Alma and a town full of secrets). We had a lot of fun guessing what was under the Christmas Tree and hope you join us as we unwrap our last Gay in Julay movie.
Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) talk about the Lifetime's lesbian Christmas rom-com Under the Christmas Tree for this Lez-ssentials episode, a recurring segment on the essential movies and TV shows in the lesbian canon. This movie stars Elise Bauman (@baumanelise) as Alma and Tattiawna Jones (@tattiawna) as Charlie and is the very first lesbian holiday movie Lifetime has ever produced. It is so nice watching a queer movie that has queer people both in front of and behind the cameras. The majority of the cast and crew for Under the Christmas Tree are part of the LGBTQ+ community. Even the wardrobe is gay culture - Alma and Charlie wear big jackets over hoodies and plenty of button downs. In true Lifetime holiday fashion, the movie is a super wholesome and adorable romance. Their families are supportive and there's not an ounce of homophobia in sight. There's some conflict over getting a Christmas tree for the governor, but overall the angst is very mild. This movie is very gay and is everything we've ever wanted for a lesbian Christmas movie. At the end of the episode, stick around to hear our original holiday song based on Under the Christmas Tree titled “Underneath the Christmas Tree” written by Leigh Holmes Foster and performed by Ellie Brigida. Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with Elise Bauman (@baumanelise) and Ashly Perez (@itsashlyperez) LIVE in Los Angeles at the Virgil. Elise Bauman dives into why 40 Days and 40 Nights should've been gay because of her Shannyn Sossamon folder on her laptop entitled fashion inspo, how Josh Hartnett's character is basically a lesbian and because only in a queer relationship would you be able to make your partner finish while just using a flower. Ellie and Leigh dive into why Spice World Should've Been Gay from Ginger borrowing all of Mel B's clothes, to the girls being repulsed by the idea of hot half naked back up dancers and the puppy pile that is the Spice Girls. Ashly Perez dives into why Terminator: Dark Fate should've been gay because Mackenzie Davis' arms, the tol, smol relationship between Dani and Grace and the zaddy energy that exudes from both Grace and Sarah Connor.
