The Revival League Playhouse proudly presents our original black comedy radio play, “Soylent Scrooge; Or, Christmas Is Made Of People.” England, 1893. The height of the Industrial Revolution. London is prosperous and well-fed. And yet, something sinister is afoot at the Soylent Scrooge Canning Manufactory, famous for feeding all of Great Britain its wildly popular brands of holiday slurry. So when Christmas Eve production grinds to a halt after captain of industry Jacob Marley falls into the whirling knives and gears of Soylent Scrooge, it's up to intrepid Food Inspector Bucket to get to the bottom of things. It's a black-hearted conspiracy that eats away at the very heart and soul of the British Empire ... and all strands of the crooked web lead back to Marley and his business partner, Ebenezer Scrooge! Can Scrooge survive the dogged sleuthing of Bucket, all while being haunted by the ghosts of Christmas? Cannibalism! Canning! Atrocious English Accents! What the Dickens will happen next, in the dastardly world of Soylent Scrooge? Listen and nibble act by act, or binge listen all at once! It takes a lot of “BRAINNZ!” to enjoy this episode. We chat with the great Kevin Murphy of Rifftrax and MST3K fame about "Night of the Living Dead," the zombie flick as a vehicle for social commentary, making fun of "Casablanca," and the difference between art and schlock in the horror genre. Joining in the undead mayhem is Junkmouth podcast emcee Erik Koski as a guest host, because regular host Kate Page fled to Canada to avoid The Hunger. The podcast gang discusses a very special episode of the Revival League, our original comedy-horror retelling of “War of the Worlds,” airing this Halloween. In “Spooky Movies We’d Like to See Riffed,” an ancient Micmac burial ground that resurrects the dead, along with some heavy movie camp, rises from the grave with 1989’s “Pet Sematary.” Then it only takes four men to do Kate’s job in her absence. Our weekly installment of “Music! Science! Cats!” examines the music of Salt Lake-based wrestler/rapper Scott “Rhyme Time” Knopf, the astronomical discovery of two colliding neutron stars, and Fish and Chips, the backpacking adventure cats. Because Greg just can’t help tampering with eldritch horrors he doesn’t understand, he brings another pumpkin pie soda to the recording studio. Ryan’s reaction to R.W. Knudsen Sparkling Pumpkin Spice does not disappoint. And in “A Very Adamant Stance,” Erica dabbles in the occult to put her pushy boss in his place. Plus, James and Ron take on "Final Justice." All this and Nerf’s new line of “Lucille Be Kind" Soft Foam Bats for Kidz (for Negans of all ages!), on this week’s episode of the Revival League Podcast! (This podcast does not represent Alternaversal, Shout Factory or the Kickstarter campaign in any official capacity). Find out who’s the biggest jerk when podcast regulars Ron McAdams and James Rohling don their paper hats and bow ties, and start scooping up classic diner and drug store treats. Greg provides the homemade gelato and Ryan the color commentary as a dyspeptic cherry on top. Erik Koski from the Junkmouth Podcast also joins in the fun, although he won't stop hocking straw wrappers at everyone. In an expansion of the Mini-Soda Review, the gang combines various Boylan’s seltzers and sodas with gelato to make lime rickeys, orange creams, strawberry malts, purple cows and New York egg creams. Seattle’s Pig Iron Cola gets blended into a cola float. And James and Ron conduct a blind taste test of Hershey’s, Bosco’s and Fox’s U-Bet chocolate syrups. All these tasty concoctions are paired with episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Learn the history of these classic soda jerk treats while the jukebox plays boogie-woogie, rockabilly, doo wap, and '50s diner rock. It’s the perfect day to end summer and beat the Labor Day heat!
