For this long weekend, enjoy some of our recent favorite interviews: Tracy K. Smith, Pulitzer Prize winning poet, former Poet Laureate of the United States from 2017 to 2019, author of To Free the Captives: A Plea for the American Soul (Knopf, 2023), talks about her new book, a manifesto for facing our history and moving forward together. The Fifth National Climate Assessment, a government mandated report on climate change, was released mid-November. Kate Marvel, climate scientist at the environmental nonprofit Project Drawdown and a lead author of the report, breaks down the warnings -- and the climate solutions -- laid out in the assessment. Michèle Lamont, professor of sociology, African and African American Studies at Harvard University, and the author of Seeing Others: How Recognition Works—and How It Can Heal a Divided World (One Signal/Atria, 2023), argues that "recognizing" and dignifying more than material success offers a path out of today's polarization. Carolina Hidalgo, senior producer for WNYC's Radio Rookies, introduces the new class of Radio Rookies while: Christina Adja shares the story she reported about gentrification coming to her neighborhood in the South Bronx; Saldon Tenzin shares her story on her experience of growing up as a first-generation Tibetan and learning to be proud of a home she's never visited; and Fanta Kaba shares her story on how her family found stability in a NYCHA apartment, and how residents are wary as public housing here in the city is changing. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder can wreak havoc in a person's life, especially when you don't know you have it and especially when you have to deal with a lot of people who don't understand it. We hear stories of those struggles this week but we also hear about victories that were earned through hard work and wisdom. For writer and comedian Dave Holmes, the best part of getting his ADHD diagnosed, treated, and under control is the experience of drying the last dish when he does the dishes. Before he made his improvement, that simply never happened because he was drawn away by other tasks that became crucially important (and that he never finished either). Comedian Carolina Hidalgo has been dealing with ADHD for most of her life and now has it tamed enough that she can take on a task that seems pretty intimidating for someone in her position: she hosts a music history podcast that requires massive amounts of research, book after book after book on the same topics. She gets it done. Saluton, estas mi, Tyson Saner. I am your host for the celebration of holiday festivities that is this Christmas-week episode of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, that numbers 284… Ho-Ho-Holy crap, has it been a rough year! If you listened to last week's Epi283, you will have heard that episode's host Marc Hershon echo that sentiment in a non-verbatim fashion. If you listened to that entire episode you would have the memory of enjoying the "Chats" installment Mr. Hershon delivered to you. His guests in that episode were none other than Dr. London Smith and Cameron Clark of The Jock Doc Podcast. It's a great episode and I urge you check it out if you hadn't already. I've got clips for you for this episode. FOUR to be precise. They are from the soundcasts Web Crawlers, Triple Click, No Dogs in Space, and How Did This Get Made? I've also got a Succotash Holiday Classic of a Henderson's Pants ad for you in this episode that will drop the week of Christmas so…'tis the season and all that. Me, I'm rediscovering my enjoyment the holiday season in a whole new context since having a child. He has holiday enthusiasm, and it is infectious to me. I never hated Christmas exactly…but my enthusiasm for it had waned until recent years. Funny thing, that.… Well, 4 clips means plus or minus 25% more show, so let's get to it… CLIPS Web Crawlers Comedians Ali Segel and Melissa Stetten kick around unsolved mysteries, creepy cults, paranormal experiences and everything in between. Our clip is from a few weeks back (12/2/21), "Real Housewives of Crime", where they discuss some of the biggest crimes involving cast members from the Real Housewives franchise, and we catch the beginning of their deep dive into Jen Shah's telemarketing scheme. Beware of mild spoilers for the "real housewives of…" I'm going to say, "Utah"? Triple Click Part of the Maximum Fun stable of soundcasts, Triple Click features video game experts Kirk Hamilton, Maddy Myers, and Jason Schreier blasting through the fascinating world of games, from news and culture, and answering listener questions, to debating the pros and cons of the biggest new games, and replaying old classics together. We've taken a clip from their episode that dropped on November 11th of this year, entitled "Skyrim Turns Ten", during which Maddy and Kirk share their initial reactions to Skyrim. No Dogs in Space No Dogs In Space is a music history podcast, featuring Marcus Parks and Carolina Hidalgo of the Last Podcast Network. Our clips throws back to July of last year (2020), and their interview with Allan Arkush, the director of Rock N Roll High School, where he talks about how the movie evolved from what was going tobe called Disco High. How Did This Get Made? Ever seen a movie so bad that it's amazing? Hosts Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael, and Jason Mantzoukas won't just talk about it - they'll watch it with their funniest friends, and report back with the results. They've been doing it for years, as proven by the fact that our clip comes from an episode of HDTGM? from January of 2014, which was then re-released in December of this year (2021). It was a Matinee Monday episode delving into the history and mystery of Jack Frost with guest Dan Harmon. I chose this as an extra clip this week due to being reminded of its existence by Stephen Krueger of Nooner Podcast. That's a soundcast that airs LIVE on Tuesday nights, 7:30 pm Pacific time…and has been running for over 10 years like THIS show has. Mr. Krueger mentioned that he had heard this episode that featured Dan Harmon and then he mentioned how he missed Dan Harmon…and I thought to myself "Yeah, so do I…I should probably listen to that episode again…I barely remember it etc etc…anyway, I enjoyed hearing it again SO much, I had to include a clip of it for this episode. Buckle up, folks! At which point our episode will have reached its final moments. It's been real, 2021…a bit TOO real but, I mean…what else IS there? This is what life is. Sometimes it is hard, but sometimes it is also funny. Both of those things are relative and subjective of course but that doesn't negate anything. Having intense joy and intense grief in steady amounts for an extended period of time can be brain-changing. Laughter has helped, and I HAVE had that this year. I consider myself fortunate to have that, and to know the people that I do. I'm grateful for family, friends, and friendlies alike. Connections have been rough for more people at the same time than likely any other time in modern history. Technology has helped a great deal and I am also grateful for that. Connecting has always been difficult for me, therefore I am always grateful for it. Thank you to everyone who communicated with me in person, thru the written word, or by telecommunication. Those of you who have heard me say "Be Decent To Each Other" and were either already doing that or have begun to, I would like to thank you for both those scenarios being a part of our shared reality. Thank you for listening, Happy Holidays, and if someone asks you if you have heard anything good or interesting lately, and we come to mind, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Tyson Saner
Sure, we know Santa Claus flies around the world delivering presents, but doesn't that seem awfully compulsive? And what's with the meticulous list of judgments he keeps? And why is he fixated on everyone believing in him? Like, ultimately, what's Santa's deal, mental health wise?John is joined by Broti Gupta, Carolina Hidalgo, and Hal Lublin to analyze (without being at all qualified to do so) a variety of Christmas figures who seem prone to rather odd behaviors. We have familiar characters like the Grinch, Scrooge, and the Little Drummer Boy but we also dive deep with Jack Skellington, the Gremlins, and Det. Martin Riggs from Lethal Weapon. It's all very tongue-in-cheek. Please note, if you are an actual gremlin or reindeer with a glowing nose and you're having a tough time, please consult an actual therapist.Listen to Tights and Fights and No Dogs in Space on the podcatcher of your choice. Ken is joined by "No Dogs in Space" host Carolina Hidalgo to discuss David Bowie and Iggy Pop's time in Berlin with a focus on 1977 and the release of FOUR landmark albums in ONE year. What led up to the pair needing to escape from LA? Why was Bowie so obsessed with the occult and black magic? Who exactly did Iggy write "China Girl" about? How did Brian Eno help create The Berlin Trilogy? It's a good one! Listen up and find out!

To reach their goal, they've decided to get involved in electoral politics.

And yet, something sinister is afoot at the Soylent Scrooge Canning Manufactory, famous for feeding all of Great Britain its wildly popular brands of holiday slurry. Can Scrooge survive the dogged sleuthing of Bucket, all while being haunted by the ghosts of Christmas? Cannibalism! Canning! Atrocious English Accents! What the Dickens will happen next, in the dastardly world of Soylent Scrooge? Listen and nibble act by act, or binge listen all at once! Saluton! Estas mi, your host...Tyson Saner. Welcome to Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. I'm so glad you chose to join me for this clips episode featuring soundcasts that are chock full of current events... Or at least they were current events when they were being commented on by people in the more-or-less recent past. One might recall some of the topics and/or events discussed ahead in the program...others may not. I thank you for listening either way. Apart from clips, we have a single Burst O' Durst from raging moderate Will Durst. AND we've got some premium advertising coming your way. Henderson's Pants will delight us with a particularly classy commercial later in the program. We also unveil a new sponsor: TrumPoetry.com, featuring the daily news…in rhyme! As I mentioned before, I've got clips and helping me introduce them is my co-host for Anti Social Show and the guest for Epi 173 of this very program, Hunter Block! Since you can't hear him here, those clips are from soundcasts SModcast, Let's Get Shitty Show, This Past Weekend, Movie Sign With The Mads, Salty Language, and This Or That. Let's get to the clippage, shall we? CLIPS This Past WeekendHost Theo Von is joined by that "solid 8" Whitney Cummings, where they talk about Roseanne (the TV show and the woman), dating comics and "classing it up". She also plugs her book I'm Fine…And Other Lies which you can get at Amazon - and for your convenience, you can just click on the banner at the top of our http://SuccotashShow.com homesite. Not only will you be able to order her tome but you can contribute to your favoirte soundcast soundcast in the very same click. SModcastKevin Smith and Scott Moser commiserate and celebrate with the cast of Comic Book Men (Walt Flanagan, Bryan Johnson, Michael Zapcic, and Ming Chen) as the seven seasons on AMC TV fades but their new Patreon-based soundcast begins! Salty LanguageOur longtime social media buddies behind the Salty Language soundcast, Bryan Stewart and Tony High, are finally back! Last heard on our show way, way back in Epi82, we clip from their "No Garbage Tiddies" episode from back in June, specifically the "Instagram TV" segment of the show. Movie Signs with The MadsClipped from the very first episode of Movie Sign with The Mads. Hosts Frank Conniff, Trace Beaulieu, and Carolina Hidalgo fight back against the alien invasion of the senses that is Independence Day: Resurgence. (Spoiloer Alert: Our clip contains spoilers for the movie Independence Day: Resurgence!) This Or ThatFrom their iTunes description: "You've played Would You Rather before, but never like this. Welcome to the world of This or That, the podcast where no subject is off limits and no option is left unexplored. You can't help but play along as Chris, Joshua, and Danielle tackle each week's topics with humor, intelligence, and a touch of raunchiness." Our clip is from show 126 from June 25th, 2018 entitled "Knife Thrower's Assistant or Lion Tamer". Let's Get Shitty ShowSelf-proclaimed "uninformed hosts" Eddie and Alyssa Jefferson guide listeners through discussions about new, culture, comedy, the arts, buttholes, and genitalia. Our clips comes from a recent episode entitled, "Butterdick". And that's just the title, so hang on. BIG WRAP-UP Well, that's about the size of it. This episode is posting at a pivotal point in my personal life so it has a greater potential for me to remember it if I ever were to have one of those "I wonder what I was doing when..." moments in my future. I likely will have one of those moments because I'm extremely self-absorbed. "That's not likely to change unless I really want it" is a thing that I would say if I were a licensed therapist... but I'm not. Anyway, I hope your listening experience was pleasurable. I like to think that if you were to enjoy it enough you might take a moment to subscribe to us on iTunes or perhaps give us a five-star rating and a review. That sort of thing lets the powers that be know that you would like the program to stay around... and if enough people do that sort of thing... I might find out about it... That would be most triumphant as the kids used to say when I was one of those... although I was never Bill OR Ted... Back to the subscribing, the rating, the sharing us with others... that's how you show us love and when you do that, I say "I love you, too" and, also, thank you for doing that thing I gently urge you to do at the close of every episode and that is to Please, Pass The Succotash... — Tyson Saner

On this episode of the Revival League Podcast, Kate once again ropes in special guests Ron McAdams and the ghost of James Rohling to fill in while Greg and Ryan are locked away completing the Christmas special. Kate, Ron and Ghost James chat about upcoming movies and whether Tommy Wiseau is an alien, and Kate decides that James just can't live up to Ryan's rage quotient. And in a previously recorded interview, Ryan and Kate chat with RiffTrax writer Sean Thomason about his love for MST3K, getting the job at RiffTrax, and surviving "Batman v. Superman". In "Reviewers in the MST," James and Ron examine the calamity that is "Pumaman". Will they survive the experience? Will Ryan ever tire of the cruel and unfunny joke that James is a ghost? The answers to all this and a wronged platypus out for revenge on this week's episode of the Revival League Podcast! PLUS: Make sure to tune in next week for the Revival League Podcast's epic, feature-length comedy radio play: "Soylent Scrooge; or, Christmas is Made of People" -- a heartwarming retelling of "A Christmas Carol", with all the cannibalism and fourth-wall-breaking Dickens would've wanted. Starring Troy Schulze, Hayley Tolley and a host of Revival League favorites. Featuring guest performances by Trace Beaulieu, Frank Conniff, Carolina Hidalgo, Zach Thompson, Grant Baciocco, Tim Blaney and Jackey Neyman Jones. Comedians Frank Conniff, Trace Beaulieu and Carolina Hidalgo drop by the studio and talk turkey with the podcast gang, and rage on Ryan for disliking pumpkin pie. Yes, it's Holiday Movies With The Mads! Along with the figgy pudding and pecan pie and that damned fruitcake, there are holiday movies out there are simply tradition. The Mads grab a fork and dig into Gremlins, Die Hard, A Christmas Story, Jingle All The Way, Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas, and Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey. Then Frank, Trace and Carolina debate which foreign holiday food would be better for consumption: raw blubber and fermented birds (Greenland) or fried worms (South Africa)? In the “Mini Soda Review,” everyone samples Pelligrino Aranciata, a blood orange flavored beverage just not to Frank’s liking. The podcast gang also discusses a very special episode of the Revival League, our original black comedy, “Soylent Scrooge: Or Christmas Is Made Of People,” airing December 19. All this, and an Audrey II and a Stranger Things Demogorgon locking lips in a truly disturbing public display of affection, on this week’s episode of the Revival League Podcast! (This podcast does not represent Alternaversal, Shout Factory or the Kickstarter campaign in any official capacity). The Candy Man Can! The comedians of the “Movie Sign With The Mads” Podcast (Frank Conniff, Trace Beaulieu, and Carolina Hidalgo) flew to Denver and dropped by the Revival League Studio to eat and critique movie candies! The Revival League Podcast gang (Greg, Ryan and James) foist on their guests classic sweet treats like Lemonheads, Cracker Jacks, SweeTarts, Whoppers, Raisinets, Black Crows, and SnoCaps, all washed down with an excellent artisan soda, Pig Iron Cola. Trace waxes nostalgic about pelting people with candy; Frank enthuses over RC Cola; Carolina remembers her favorite movie treats growing up in Mexico. Greg talks about how the full meals at the Alamo Drafthouse have spoiled his expectations of a theater food experience. Ryan still obsesses over the zither theme to “The Third Man”, while James imparts a wealth of trivia about the sweet treats cinema goers eat while watching the latest blockbuster. All this and a very happy gang of Cavity Creeps who will NOT be deterred by Crest Gel from making holes in teeth (especially with all this candy lying around), on this week’s episode of The Revival League Podcast! On the very last special Hawaii episode of the Revival League Podcast, Greg and Ryan chat with Carolina Hidalgo, co-host of the Movie Sign with the Mads podcast with Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff! We chat with Carolina about her career in stand-up, working with Trace and Frank, and what it's like to be in a horror movie. Also on this episode, Greg waxes nostalgic about fruit, the guys attack Pearl Harbor (the movie, not the naval base), James endures Devil Fish, and Ryan finally delivers justice to sea turtles. All this and a romantic, rain-drenched kiss with Ryan Gosling, on this week's episode of the Revival League Podcast!
