The monologue this time is a flashback. First, John runs down the current headlines - then talks about the tragedies of early December: Pearl Harbor and the death of John Lennon. He takes a call from Mitch at Kent State on Trump's statement he will be a dictator on day one. Then, he chats with political analyst Max Burns on the 4th Republican primary debate, the projections for the 2024 election, and the future of Trump and MAGA. Next, John speaks with Kathleen in Kansas on the philosophy of democracy, Marsha in Cape Cod on Trump and John Lennon, and Joanne in Maryland on volunteering to help get out the vote. Finally, he talks with T.V.'s Frank Conniff. They joke about new movies, Trump, and his new special airing Tuesday December 12th at 8pm EST, Frank Conniff and Trace Beaulieu riff the halls with a livestream special riff of "The Creeping Terror", one of the all time classic MST 3k stinkers.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
The MSTIE gang is back yet again and this time we're continuing to highlight the best moments by each era of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Before Michael J. Nelson helmed the remainder of the show on the future infamous SciFi Channel, he still had to cover up the remaining gap and a theatrical movie by closing up the Comedy Central run with the other cohorts Trace Beaulieu, Frank Conniff, Kevin Murphy and Co.! Which episodes are still dynamite fun and full of belly aching laughs? Which episodes are underappreciated? And which of the new host segment gags truly stand out on these go-arounds? I invited Chris Gersbeck to be on the show mostly to chat about the huge career strides he's made in the last 2 years as producer, publicist, and podcaster and founder of DUMB Industries, but I inadvertently roped him into helping me with my own self-esteem issues. I felt much better at the end. But we did manage to squeeze some Chris info in. A great story of how he made DUMB Industries happen. Chris really is a special person—people feel better just being around him, but I can't say exactly why or how—he's just that way. I'm not the only person that feels that way, I'll bet a lot of the famous people he works with would say the same thing. There's too many famous people to list here and he's got plenty of his own following as well. Do your own research! Ok well I'll mention a few he's working with in April— Dave Hill, Frank Coniff, Trace Beaulieu, Mary Jo Pehl but that's it! ALSO you can learn a lot from listening to him talk about his approach to work. Think of it this way—Chris is the product of both parents his mother and father each had successful careers in project management at blue chip companies. Getting shit done well is definitely baked into his nature. So not sure if everyone can try this at home, but you will see what I mean and give it a whirl. More about Chris Gersbeck: Chris Gersbeck, is a producer, publicist, and podcaster born and raised in Queens, NY. He is sometimes credited as C.S. Gersbeck. He attended college at SUNY Plattsburgh. Chris first became involved in the New York City comedy scene in 2014 as a stand-up comedian, but stepped back from performing in 2018 to focus on producing & promoting live comedy and podcasts under the banner of Dumb Industries. During that time, he began co-producing Open Riff Night with Frank Conniff, a live show where anyone could riff on clips of bad movies at QED in Astoria, Queens. He also produced Movies R Dumb, a live-riffing show that often featured Frank Conniff, and Dave Hill's Podcasting Incident (now known as The Dave Hill Goodtime Hour) along with comedian Dave Hill for the Maximum Fun network. Chris has since gone on to work behind-the-scenes for the podcasts RISK! and Keith and The Girl, as well as the Zoom reunion show for the comedy troupe The State in June 2020. Since July 2020, he has produced and hosted each of The Mads Are Back's monthly livestreams. He is also the producer of The Mary Jo Pehl Show.

We cut to the chase with The Mads Are Back differs Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff (both previously of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Cinematic Titanic and guests on RiffTrax) and their producer Chris Gersback! They are here to promote their upcoming Manos: The Hands of Fate redone riff which shall be broadcast onto Zoom on December 14! Instead of just asking non-stop questions for the billionth time on how they got into riffing, I instead dive into what really got them prompted into doing stand-up altogether and their other writing ventures. What sitcom writing is Frank proudest of? Why does Trace really like to draw in the first place? Break out the hotdish -- it's a brand new episode of Go Fact Yourself!Trace Beaulieu is best known for his time as one of the major creative forces behind the film-riffing series “Mystery Science Theater 3000.” Between working on that show and being nominated for two Emmys, he's gotten more than his fair share of Hollywood. Still, he's glad he decided to move back to his home state of Minnesota, where he can still catch a fish in the St. Croix river whenever he wants.Trace is still riffing on movies with his latest project “The Mads.”Trace will compete against his fellow Minnesota resident: musician and playwright Jonatha Brooke. She's got a lot of experience creating content for a live audience. That includes the play My Mother has 4 Noses which, appropriately enough, her mother inspired her to write. Like any performer, she's missed the energy of a live crowd. To help settle that longing a little, she's performed over 50 COVID concerts on YouTube… even if she's had to get creative to make the audience feel real. Our guests will answer trivia about royalty, hot dogs and cute cows. What's the Difference: High Anxiety! What's the difference between “your majesty” and “your highness” when addressing royalty? What's the difference between fear and anxiety?Areas of Expertise:Jonatha: The TV show “Schitt's Creek,” the Twitter account @M_Crouton, and Cults.Trace: Monty Python, Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's Monster, and Minnesota Cuisine.Appearing in this episode:J. Howdy! It's summertime! And you can tell, because we're all sitting around doing exactly what we did in the spring. But yes, our thoughts are starting to collectively turn to what we will do in the fall. And our prayers are that it won't be more of the same, but our sneaking suspicions are that it might be. And so that brings us up to date on our thoughts, prayers and sneaking suspicions. But we do have a great show for you today. Formerly known as TV's Frank and Prof. Clayton Forrester, as well as the voice of Crow, now known as The Mads, Frank Conniff and Trace Beaulieu. Thanks to Zoom, the new way we communicate, and hats off to all those people in Congress who were smart enough to invest in it just prior to the world knowing why we'd be needing it, we caught up with Frank in New York City and Trace in the wilds of the Minnesota woods. We also have a True Tales from Weirdsville that starts with the mask debate and ends up in the movie Halloween II, so enjoy that. All that, and so much more, for your pandemic listening. And so, with that, it's on to out filthy business. https://DanaGould.com

Zoe Plait is one of MST3K's biggest "Professional Fans." She worked with Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff on "The Mads are Back" live show, and in this episode of Hungry Trilobyte, she and I sit down and get to the heart of what makes the show great. More than that, we address how fandom can have a positive effect on mental illness, and ponder her future writing projects. During the episode, we also bring up the MST3K Playstation Underground issue. See Show Notes at www.AaronBossig.com

“In the not too distant future…” How many times have you thought to yourself, “Man, this old B movie is terrible! I wish I had someone to watch it with me and make sarcastic and snide remarks during the viewing…”? Well now you can with Mystery Science Theater 3000: the Movie! Our pick this episode wasn't exactly a hit across the board with our hosts. With all of the different “riffing” groups that exist now, it's nice to see how it all got started. No matter if you're a fan of the original MST3K show, I still think this cult classic will be talked about for awhile, and is a nice entry for the TV show if you're a newbie to it all.
