Send us a textBats can carry several viruses that can kills humans. Some well understood – rabies, the deadliest virus of all, is transmitted directly from bats to people from bat bites. Other viruses, such as Hendra virus, are a little more mysterious and indirect in how they spread. And researchers are still unsure how viruses such as Ebola, Marburg and the coronavirus that caused Covid-19 get from bats to people. However, a team working in the Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda may have just gotten a big clue.Bosco Atukwatse, a Ugandan wildlife biologist working with the Kyambura Lion Project, set up solar-powered cameras near the mouth of Python Cave in the Maramagambo Forest in the park. He knew the cave was home to multitudes of Egyptian fruit bats and was hoping for pictures of leopards and spotted hyenas. What he got were dozens of images of animals hunting the bats. Birds, snakes, giant lizards called monitors, a very persistent leopard, monkeys, baboons, and a catlike animal called a genet all regularly hunted in the cave. This behavior was notable on its own. But the bats in this cave are also known to be infected with Marburg virus, a rare but deadly virus that can cause a hemorrhagic fever. Two visitors to the cave had been infected with Marburg, including a Dutch tourist who died in 2008 and a U.S. tourist. The findings don't prove that animals who hunt bats are spreading Marburg, says Dr. Alex Braczkowski, Science Director of the Kyambura Lion Project, who reported the discovery on the open repository site Zenodo. They do, however, provide a starting point for possible further investigations.Listen as Alex and Bosco chat with One World, One Health host Maggie Fox about the bats, the animals that hunt them, and what it all might mean.

Ever wondered how to create a garden that works with nature rather than against it? In this captivating conversation, filmmaker and permaculture practitioner Shane Hatton shares the remarkable evolution of Bosco's Garden in County Kilkenny – a living laboratory where permaculture principles have created a thriving ecosystem.Shane's journey began simply with a polytunnel and a raised bed in 2012, experiencing the typical failures and successes of a beginning gardener. The watershed moment came in 2020 when he dug his first wildlife pond, setting off a chain reaction that transformed both his garden and his approach to growing. What started as conventional growing with potato drills shifted dramatically when Shane discovered no-dig gardening methods, layering cardboard, compost, and woodchip to create beds that required less water while yielding better harvests. The heart of this episode explores how permaculture's core ethics – earth care, people care, and fair share – guide every decision in the garden. Shane explains the zone system (organizing plants based on how frequently they need attention) and the principle that every element should serve multiple functions. The results speak for themselves: hedgehogs now naturally control slugs, birds manage caterpillars on brassicas, and the garden has achieved a remarkable ecological balance without chemical interventions.Particularly fascinating is Shane's shift away from commercial market gardening toward a more perennial food forest approach. His experiences highlight an essential truth: sometimes the best gardening action is patience and trust in natural systems. When caterpillars recently decimated his Brussels sprouts, resisting the urge to intervene allowed blue tits to discover and eliminate the problem completely within days.Beyond his own garden, Shane now documents other remarkable permaculture and regenerative projects across Ireland through his YouTube channel. These videos offer viewers unprecedented access to some of the country's most innovative growing spaces and the passionate people behind them.Whether you're curious about permaculture, interested in no-dig gardening, or simply want to create a more harmonious growing space, this episode offers practical wisdom from someone who has walked the path from conventional growing to regenerative abundance.

Luke 15:1-10 This sermon explores Jesus' parables of the lost sheep and the lost coin as sharp, funny, and even outrageous stories aimed at the religious elite of his day. Jesus imagines God as a reckless shepherd and an extravagant woman, turning social expectations upside down to show how deeply God values the lost. The humour - like a shepherd abandoning ninety-nine or a woman throwing a huge party for one coin - highlights God's excessive, almost absurd love. For the lost, this is comforting; for the complacent, it is a challenge: God's circle of welcome erases every boundary of “us” and “them.”
A disclaimer to Brandon Rafi and his associates as well as his attorneys , including Andrew Gould, this podcast is for fun and not to be taken literal. However, everything that comes out of the podcast is based on conversations, events, and communications with others that we simply share on this podcast. The FBI part is true , don't get it twisted. In this episode we share that Raees Mohamed and Geoff Sturr will have a Rule 16(d) Conference with Judge Pineda on September 24, 2025. We reason that after all this time, Judge Pineda will simply advise Raees to give us dates for a deposition. We remind Brandon again that the FBI is watching and they visited my home several months ago. We are not telling him this to extort him for money. But we would like him to sit down for a deposition. It's the least he can do for making us wait 18 months to get us any type of discovery. We recount Andrew Gould taking a loss in the Republican Primary for Attorney General. Good Move! We also recount his loss he took in the Appeal. Speaking of Appeal, Jane Doe hired Tiffany & Bosco to file her response in the Order of Protection appeal. We now wait 6-9 months for the ruling. Stay tuned.
Caterina Manfrini"Sette volte bosco"Neri Pozza Editorewww.neripozza.itUn romanzo d'esordio crudo e poetico. Oceanic Studies. An interdisciplinary podcast that examines the past, present, and future of ocean governance In 1609, the Dutch lawyer Hugo Grotius rejected the idea that even powerful rulers could own the oceans. "A ship sailing through the sea," he wrote, "leaves behind it no more legal right than it does a track." A philosophical and legal battle ensued, but Grotius's view ultimately prevailed. To this day, "freedom of the seas" remains an important legal principle and a powerful rhetorical tool.Yet in recent decades, freedom of the seas has eroded in multiple ways and for a variety of reasons. During the world wars of the 20th century, combatants imposed unprecedented restrictions on maritime commerce, leaving international rules in tatters. National governments have steadily expanded their reach into the oceans. More recently, environmental concerns have led to new international restrictions on high seas fishing. Today's most dangerous maritime disputes-including China's push for control of the South China Sea-are occurring against the backdrop of major changes in the way the world treats the oceans. As David Bosco shows in The Poseidon Project: The Struggle to Govern the World's Oceans (Oxford UP, 2021), the history of humanity's attempt to create rules for the oceans is alive and relevant. Tracing the roots of the law of the sea and the background to current maritime disputes, he shows that building effective ocean rules while preserving maritime freedoms remains a daunting task. Bosco analyzes how fragile international institutions and determined activists are struggling for relevance in a world still dominated by national governments. As maritime tensions develop, The Poseidon Project will serve as an essential guide to the continuing challenge of ocean governance. Learn more about your ad choices. Mostly seven but briefly eight queens make it through to a final lip sync battle for the crown and the cash. Kerri hosts the viewing party as Irene is teleported back to Mars, Sister Mary Aja does her little walk and Daya wagon wheel watusis away against her Seattle sister. Lydia puts her whole butthole into Shakira and Bosco attempts to raise her glass above Ginger's outstretched arms, but this Weather Girls final lip sync was essentially forecasted. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the FDNY deploys beach Gator units at area beaches, which are staffed by EMTs trained to respond to emergencies on the beach. These units work in partnership with the FDNY Drone Unit, FDNY Fire Companies, the NYPD and New York City Parks Department lifeguards and can more easily navigate the beach and through crowds in their small, specialized vehicle. New York City's beaches are especially crowded during the warm summer months, and Independence Day weekend 2024 was no exception. Just after 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, Station 47's beach gator unit sprang into action when five swimmers in a closed section of the beach were caught in large swells and a rip current, slamming them into the Beach 91 jetty as they struggled to say afloat. In this episode, EMT Saverio Bosco and EMT Andrew Ochtera join us to discuss this rescue operation and what a “day at the beach” is like for members working at one the busiest beaches in the city. Captain Randy Li hosts.

Before next week's lip sync smackdown, we get this week's lip sync smackdown in the form of a talent show! Will Aja jump from there? Will Lydia rely on cumbersome props to tell a bizarre story? Does anyone need to be reminded of the Pharmarusical? While everything comes up Ginger and Jorgeous has an intense reaction to turkey, Bosco's pretty privilege earns her the win and Mistress is sent back to playing video games on YouTube by her own Butthole. (Unless of course Ross's absentee ballot sways the wild card lottery away from her fellow Texas diva.)Become a Matreon at the Sister Mary level to get full access to bonus episodes including brackets, movie reviews and past seasons of US Drag Race, UK, Canada, Down Under, Espana, Global All Stars, Philippines and more.Join us at our OnlyMary's level for our recap of Season 5 of Drag Race plus even more movie reviews, brackets, and deep dives into our personal lives!Patreon: www.patreon.com/alrightmaryEmail: alrightmarypodcast@gmail.comInstagram: @alrightmarypodJohnny: @johnnyalso (Instagram)Colin: @colindrucker_ (Instagram)Web: www.alrightmary.com
