It's time for another Festive Fridays episode as we cover a unique new spin on a holiday classic. ABOUT EBONY'S CHRISTMAS CAROL Three spirits visit a bitter winery owner, helping her confront her past and find her lost Christmas spirit. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR EBONY'S CHRISTMAS CAROL November 24, 2025 | Streaming CAST & CREW OF EBONY'S CHRISTMAS CAROL Ebony Tates as Ebony Scrooge BRAN'S EBONY CHRISTMAS CAROL SYNOPSIS Meet Ebony Scrooge. It's the holiday season and she wakes up absolutely miserable. She's out here wearing all black, so you KNOW she hates Christmas. She walks out of her room to find her assistant Maggie has decorated the house for Christmas. Ebony's response? “THROW IT AWAY!” To her, Christmas is only good for boosting sales. We then meet Nate, an aspiring winemaker who dreams of making his own wine someday. Unfortunately, for now he just works at Ebony's winery. Ebony storms into the office and cannot believe everyone is trying to decorate for Christmas. She reminds everyone that she has very clear rules: no Christmas music, no decorations, no jingle bells, and absolutely NO Mariah Carey. That night on Christmas Eve, Ebony falls asleep and is awakened by her Aunt Pooch, who warns her that she'll be visited by three ghosts. Ebony is not impressed. First up is the Ghost of Christmas Past, who shows Ebony her childhood. Growing up, her family never had much money, which made Christmas hard for her to enjoy. Her parents worked really hard to make the holidays feel special, but young Ebony could never really appreciate it. Then the Ghost of Christmas Present arrives…and he's hot. He shows Ebony how much her employees dislike working for her. He also shows her parents — who are very much alive — sadly talking about how she never visits anymore and how much she hates Christmas. This one actually gets to her. Finally, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come shows her a future where she dies and nobody really cares. Not even Nate. Brutal. Ebony wakes up changed. She rushes to the winery, apologizes to her employees, gives everyone time off, and hands out bonuses. She also finally reconnects with her parents. Then she throws a huge Christmas party for the staff where she spends an aggressively long amount of time backing that thang up on Nate. Eventually, she pulls him aside, tells him she wants to help launch his wine, and then they kiss — because obviously these two have had feelings for each other the entire movie. Welcome to the Inverted Orthodoxy Podcast! We're Blake, Kyle, and Doug the pastors from Living Springs, here to take you on a weekly adventure through the twists and turns of faith. Got questions? We've got answers, and sometimes more questions! Join us as we explore, celebrate, and embrace the beautiful complexities of belief. In this week's Christmas episode, Pastor Kyle answers the following questions! 1. Christmas special question! It has come to my attention that in the movie home alone, old man Marley could be interpreted as a representation of Jesus. He is first seen with wounds on his hands, subsequently it is found out that he has been rejected by the society around him. Additionally, Kevin first netted him in a church. Finally, near the end of the movie he comes to Kevin's salvation. The cherry on top is that he is seen salting the earth. Do you think that this is a relevant and acceptable representation of Jesus in the modern age?2. How many wise men were actually there?3. If Jesus was born to bring peace, why does Christmas feel like the most stressful season of the year?4. Is the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come basically an Old Testament prophet?5. Is A Muppet Christmas Carol actually a better picture of repentance than most sermons?6. Scrooge changes overnight—does that make his repentance fake, or is that how grace works?7. Why do so many Christmas movies focus on personal kindness instead of systemic change—and is that enough?8. Is it possible to celebrate Christmas faithfully without participating in consumer culture—or is that unrealistic?9. Would Jesus recognize modern Christmas as something that points to him?10. Why does God choose to enter the world as a baby instead of arriving with power and authority?11. Does the Christmas story actually challenge nationalism more than it supports it?12. Does the pressure to feel joy at Christmas contradict the honesty of the Psalms?13. Is being ‘nice' at Christmas a poor substitute for actual discipleship?14. If the angels announced ‘good news to the poor,' why is Christmas marketed primarily to the comfortable?Do you have a question you've been wanting answered? Two of us believe The Muppet Christmas Carol is the peak of festive cinema, a perfect blend of Michael Caine's gravitas and Gonzo's narration. The other thinks it should be buried in the past with the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Join us for a heated debate where we defend the magic of "One More Sleep 'til Christmas" against a co-host who has officially gone full Humbug. Is Michael Caine the greatest Scrooge of all time, or is our third mic just allergic to joy? We're lighting the lamp (not the rat!) for a festive showdown.

Featuring the return of an Erin Krakow and Tyler Hynes pairing, this movie is a little Christmas magic at 30,000 feet.ABOUT CHRISTMAS ABOVE THE CLOUDSWorkaholic CEO Ella Neezer tries to skip Christmas by boarding a flight to Australia. But her plan takes an unexpected turn when she is visited by three quirky spirits representing her past, present, and future — and she finds herself face-to-face with her ex-fiancé Jake. As Ella navigates these encounters, she's forced to confront the choices that prioritized success over connection, ultimately rediscovering love, compassion, and the true meaning of Christmas.AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR CHRISTMAS ABOVE THE CLOUDSNovember 8, 2025 | Hallmark ChannelCAST & CREW OF CHRISTMAS ABOVE THE CLOUDSErin Krakow as Ella NeezerTyler Hynes as JakeDirected by Peter BensonBRAN'S CHRISTMAS ABOVE THE CLOUDS SYNOPSISMeet Ella Neezer — a certified holiday grump. She runs a fancy-pants travel company and all of her employees hate her. It's Christmas Eve, but she could not care less. The new ad campaign isn't good enough and she wants improvements by the 26th. “I'm not saying you have to work on Christmas… it just has to be better by then.” Very chill.Ella and her assistant Bobbi head to the airport to catch a flight to Australia so Ella can skip Christmas entirely — even though Bobbi has a son, Tim, that she'd clearly rather be home with. On the way, Ella's sister calls trying to convince her to come home for Christmas. Absolutely not. Ella looks at a photo of her mentor, Marlene Jacobson, and for a second it looks like Marlene is moving. Weird, but let's brush that off.At the airport, Ella bumps into her ex-boyfriend Jake — the one she broke up with six years ago today. Even worse? He's seated right next to her on the plane. The plane takes off and suddenly things get spooky. Lights flicker. Window shades go up and down. And then — Marlene Jacobson appears on the seat-back screen to haunt her. She announces that Ella will be visited by three spirits. Buckle up, bucko.Ella falls asleep and is woken by the Ghost of Christmas Past, who is obviously a flight attendant. She shoves Ella out of the plane (casual) and Ella lands in her own childhood. She sees herself and her sister stuck at boarding school over Christmas. Then she jumps to college, where she meets young Jake, the cute librarian who gives her his scarf. They were happy once! Next, she sees an old company Christmas party — back when her employees liked her — and she and Jake are very in love. We get a memory montage: years together. He even proposes at Christmas. But as her career ramps up under Marlene, Ella gets busier, misses more time, and eventually the relationship breaks. She watches herself end it, placing the ring down. Finally, she sees herself snapping at Bobbi last year when Bobbi needed to rush home to her sick son. It hurts.Ella wakes back up on the plane and apologizes to Jake for all the Christmases she worked through. She could have done better. Then comes the Ghost of Christmas Present, who takes her to a bar where her employees are having their own mini Christmas party — and talking about how much they dislike her. Ouch. They visit Ella's sister's house, where her sister wishes Ella could just share in the joy. Ella sticks around long enough to remember how fun Christmas used to be. They visit Jake's charity, which is thriving. There's a woman clearly into him. Ella is jealous. They stop by his old friends' annual “Dive Bar Christmas” — the tradition Ella used to love. She misses those days. Then they visit Bobbi's house — Tim is sick with asthma, and the family resents Ella… until Tim says he's thankful for Miss Neezer because the job helps afford his medicine. Ella is crushed.Back to the plane she goes. Bobbi's asleep, so Ella goes to talk to Jake instead. Finally, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come arrives. Ella sees her employees talking like someone is gone — but who? At her sister's house, everyone is dressed in black. Jake shows up with flowers. Someone has died. Eventually, Ella realizes Jake gave up on love. Then she sees Bobbi's home. Tim's chair is empty. And then — she sees her own grave. She's devastated, begging for a chance to change.Suddenly — she's back on the plane. The flight has landed in Utah due to engine trouble. Coincidentally, her sister lives in Utah. It's Christmas morning (technically 1 AM).Ella snaps into action. She tells Bobbi she's getting a promotion, double salary, the best health insurance imaginable, and a first-class flight home to be with Tim. Bobbi is stunned.Ella and Jake go to breakfast. Ella tells him she doesn't want to go through life alone — especially not without him. She apologizes — sincerely. They slow dance. He dips her. They kiss BIG ONES.They surprise her sister. Ella apologizes for not being the sister she should have been. They spend Christmas together. Jake tells Ella he loves her. She tells him she's always loved him — some might say it was always you. They kiss again.Bobbi FaceTimes. Tim says, “God bless us, everyone.”The end.

Kelly is away, so our next new episode will be released in two weeks. This is a rerelease of an episode originally published on December 19th, 2023. But Scrooge was all the worse for this. It thrilled him with a vague uncertain horror, to know that behind the dusky shroud there were ghostly eyes intently fixed upon him, while he, though he stretched his own to the utmost, could see nothing but a spectral hand and one great heap of black. So Charles Dickens described Ebenezer Scrooge's encounter with the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come in his beloved 1843 classic A Christmas Carol. And while A Christmas Carol is best known as the endlessly-adapted and reimagined cornerstone of modern Christmas storytelling, it's also a freaky ghost story, and it turns out that, in Dickens' England, telling ghost stories at Christmas was a whole thing! There were, as it turns out, a lot of ghosts in Christmas past. Why did Victorians like themselves a spooky Christmas? And when did spookiness get replaced with mall Santas, Bing Crosby, and family church services? Is it too late to make Christmas spooky again? This week, Kelly and John talk to folklorists Sara Cleto and Brittany Warman, co-founders of the Carterhaugh School about lost Christmas traditions, winter hauntings, and what else you should read if you prefer ghastly specters to eggnog and Rudolph.

Oh Oh Oh - The Contemporary Geo-Politics of a Christmas Carol The Black Spy Podcast, Season 18, Episode 0001 In keeping with the Christmas spirit the Black Spy Podcast team brings you an analysis of a classic piece of Christmas literature through the prism of contemporary events, so hold your Victorian horses and step inside this brilliant and entertaining Christmas podcast. Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," while set in Victorian England, offers profound insights into socio-economic disparities, moral responsibility, and the human capacity for change, themes that resonate powerfully in the context of contemporary geopolitics in 2024. The narrative revolves around Ebenezer Scrooge, a miser who embodies the era's capitalist excesses, and his transformative journey prompted by the visitations of three spirits. This tale can be viewed as an allegory for the moral imperatives facing today's global leaders, particularly in a world grappling with inequality, climate change, and the consequences of capitalism. Economic Inequality and Social Responsibility In "A Christmas Carol," Scrooge's initial indifference to the plight of the impoverished reflects a broader socio-economic divide that is alarmingly prevalent today. As of 2024, the world faces stark economic inequalities exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, and geopolitical tensions. Wealth concentration among the elite has reached staggering levels, with a significant portion of the global population struggling to meet basic needs. The Ghost of Christmas Present reveals to Scrooge the harsh realities faced by the Cratchit family, particularly Tiny Tim, whose health and future are jeopardized by their poverty. This aspect of the story mirrors contemporary discussions around social safety nets and the need for governments to intervene in markets to ensure equitable access to resources, healthcare, and education. Just as Scrooge is called to acknowledge his moral responsibility to others, today's leaders are similarly challenged to address systemic inequalities and implement policies that foster social welfare. Environmental Concerns and Global Responsibility The spectre of climate change looms large in contemporary geopolitics, echoing the moral awakening experienced by Scrooge. The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of neglect and greed. In 2024, the planet faces unprecedented environmental challenges, with extreme weather events and biodiversity loss underscoring the urgent need for collective action. Many governments and organizations are grappling with the ethical implications of their environmental policies, much like Scrooge's eventual realization that his actions have far-reaching consequences. The Paris Agreement and subsequent climate accords represent attempts to foster global cooperation, yet the disparity in commitment levels among nations reflects the ongoing struggle between economic interests and moral imperatives. Scrooge's transformation symbolizes the potential for leaders to evolve from self-interest to a broader commitment to sustainability and stewardship. War, Peace, and Humanitarian Obligations The geopolitical landscape of 2024 is also marked by ongoing conflicts and humanitarian crises, from the war in Ukraine to various regional disputes in the Middle East and Africa. The indifference of Scrooge to the suffering around him parallels the apathy of some global leaders toward humanitarian needs. In Dickens' narrative, the moral awakening of Scrooge leads him to philanthropy and community engagement, a lesson that resonates with the contemporary need for nations to prioritize diplomacy and humanitarian aid. As nations grapple with the consequences of war, including displacement and poverty, the call for empathy and action becomes increasingly urgent. Just as Scrooge's character is redeemed through acts of kindness and generosity, modern leaders are similarly tasked with recognizing their interconnectedness and the moral obligation to assist those in need, regardless of borders. Conclusion  In conclusion, "A Christmas Carol" serves as a timeless reflection on the human condition and the responsibilities we hold toward one another. Through the lens of 2024's geopolitical landscape, Dickens' narrative underscores the importance of addressing economic inequality, environmental degradation, and humanitarian crises. The lessons learned by Scrooge are as relevant today as they were in the 19th century, reminding us that true leadership requires compassion, accountability, and a commitment to the common good. Miserly Ways-Hetty': Scrooge in Hoboken Hetty Green, the "Witch of Wall Street," was a real-life figure known for her extreme frugality and sharp business acumen. Her story bears similarities to the fictional character Scrooge in that both were immensely wealthy and known for their miserly ways. However, there are key differences. Hetty Green's wealth was not inherited, but rather amassed through her own shrewd investments. She was a pioneer in the field of finance, particularly in the area of short selling. Unlike Scrooge, who hoarded his wealth, Green invested her money wisely, often during financial crises. While Scrooge's miserliness was largely driven by greed and a lack of empathy, Green's frugality was more strategic. She lived a simple life and avoided unnecessary expenses, allowing her to accumulate vast wealth. She was also known for her generosity, donating millions of dollars to charity anonymously. Hetty Green's life in Hoboken was marked by both controversy and admiration. She was often criticized for her stinginess and eccentric behavior, but she was also respected for her financial acumen and philanthropic efforts. Her story is a fascinating example of a woman who achieved great success in a male-dominated field, despite facing significant challenges and prejudice. now, I would like to create a mnemonic about Ebenezer Scrooge meeting Hetty Green as The Ghost of Xmas Yet to Come. Hi! Today, we will discuss "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. This story is about kindness and how people can change, especially during Christmas. So, let's dive into Ebenezer Scrooge's story together! Get the TRANSCRIPT on my website: https://speakenglishpodcast.com/280-a-christmas-carol-by-charles-dickens-for-beginners/ "A Christmas Carol" is about a man named Ebenezer Scrooge. He doesn't like Christmas, and he's mean to everyone, even his worker, Bob Cratchit. One cold Christmas Eve, Scrooge gets a visit from the ghost of his old partner, Jacob Marley, who is wrapped in chains. Marley tells Scrooge that he'll be in chains, too, if he doesn't change his ways. Scrooge is visited by three more ghosts—the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. They show him his past, his present, and a scary future. In the past, Scrooge sees when he was young and kinder. In the present, he sees people enjoying Christmas, even if they don't have much money. He especially sees Bob Cratchit and his family, who are poor but happy. The scariest part is when he meets the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. This ghost shows him a future where nobody cares about Scrooge because he's so mean. Scrooge realizes he doesn't want this future. He wants to change and feels happy when he wakes up on Christmas morning. He starts being kind and helps people. Not only that, but he gives money to charity, gives more money to Bob Cratchit, and takes care of Tiny Tim, who is very sick. "A Christmas Carol" shows us that we can always choose to be kind, and Christmas is a time to love and share. Here are the themes of the novel: Change and Kindness: This story shows us that people can change and become kinder if they want to. Family and Togetherness: The Cratchit family's love reminds us that family is important even when they don't have much. Giving and Joy: Christmas is about giving and making others happy. "A Christmas Carol" is a story that reminds us to be kind, especially during Christmas. Whether you hear it for the first time or again, it's a story that warms our hearts.
