Later this week, Pope Leo XIV begins his first international apostolic visit: a six-day trip to Turkey and Lebanon from November 27 to December 2. At the center of that journey is his stop in Nicaea—today the town of İznik—where the first ecumenical council (325 A.D.) set down the Nicene Creed, the profession of faith that has united Christians for seventeen centuries. Pope Francis had hoped to make this pilgrimage in May; now, Pope Leo is taking up the mantle. We're re-running our deep dive episode on Nicaea today—originally published before Pope Francis' death. It explores the history of Nicaea and its ongoing importance for Christians, particularly in working toward a common Easter date. In the show's introduction, producer Ricardo da Silva, S.J., updates listeners on Pope Leo's new document on Christian unity, released to commemorate the council's anniversary, and on a recently issued doctrinal note on monogamy from the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. In the deep dive, you'll hear from: Aristotle (Telly) Papanikolaou, Professor of Theology and the Archbishop Demetrios Chair in Orthodox Theology and Culture at Fordham University  John Chryssavgis, deacon of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and archdeacon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate Donald Bolen, Archbishop of Regina in Canada and a member of the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity  Married professors Ben Hohman, a Roman Catholic, and Claire Koen, an Eastern Orthodox Christian Sandra Beardsall, Professor Emerita of Church History and Ecumenics at St. Andrew's College in Saskatoon, Canada, an ordained United Church minister and a member of the World Council of Churches' Faith and Order Commission Support Inside the Vatican by subscribing to America Magazine! Listen to Rev. Dr. Joni Sancken, Butler Chair of Homiletics & Hermeneutics at Vancouver School of Theology, being interviewed by CBS Ambassador, Rev. Dr. Andrew Stirling. In this episode, they discuss how Joni uses Scripture to preach with honesty, courage, and imagination. They also explore Scripture's voice in a world of doubt and trauma, why Jesus can't be tamed, and how the parables are meant to disrupt and awaken us. In this episode, Joni and Andrew discuss: Joni's journey into preaching and they explore how faith, family, and church community shaped her calling, and look at how Scripture moves from the page to the pulpit. What happens when congregations lose Bible fluency as they unpack Paul Wilson's “Four Pages of the Sermon” as a way to move from trouble to grace. They wrestle with the disruptive power of the Gospel and reflect on preaching with honesty in a world of trauma and uncertainty. How Scripture gives us language when words fail. Joni talks about the space Scripture has for lament, questions, and encounters with God. The “thin place” of preaching - where God moves between text, preacher, and listener and how the Church can reclaim a wilder, untamed Jesus. The subversive power of the parables and how to preach them in ways that awaken instead of dull the imagination. What's Stirring in Gen Z and the Future of the Church? Joni and Andres explore Gen Z's hunger for authentic faith and consider what this means for the future of the Church.Read the transcript: biblesociety.ca/transcript-scripture-untangled-s11-ep10Joni Sancken's approach to preaching is interdisciplinary and theological. Sancken (PhD, Toronto School of Theology, Emmanuel College) holds the Butler Chair of Homiletics and Biblical Interpretation at Vancouver School of Theology. She was formerly Professor of Homiletics at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH where she served for a decade and Assistant Professor of Preaching and Practical Theology at Eastern Mennonite Seminary in Harrisonburg, VA. She is the author of several books including, Stumbling Over the Cross: Preaching the Cross and Resurrection Today (Cascade, 2016), Words that Heal: Preaching Hope to Wounded Souls (Abingdon, 2019), All Our Griefs to Bear: Responding with Resilience After Collective Trauma (Herald Press, 2022,) and Getting to God: Preaching Good News in a Troubled World (co-authored) (Cascade, 2023.)  Sancken is passionate about supporting and encouraging pastors and church leaders. She grew up in a Mennonite congregation near Champaign-Urbana, IL and is an ordained pastor in Mennonite Church USA. She is energized by ecumenical and religious diversity having studied, served, and worshipped in Presbyterian Church USA, United Church of Canada, and United Methodist settings, and has completed training in the interfaith practice of scriptural reasoning. Sancken lives in Vancouver, BC with her Presbyterian pastor spouse, Steve Schumm, children Maggie and Teddy, and dogs Bella and Pax. In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching low-stakes reality TV, and exploring the natural beauty around Vancouver.   Canadian Bible Society: biblesociety.ca Help people hear God speak: biblesociety.ca/donate Connect with us on Instagram: @canadianbiblesociety The Bible Course: biblecourse.ca

Send us a textWhat if the most loving church isn't the one that keeps you comfortable, but the one that calls you to grow up? We take that question straight into Ephesians 4 and uncover how Paul moves from soaring doctrine to gritty daily practice, showing why a real gospel culture requires humility, unity, and words that build rather than break. We start by naming the tension: church is hard because people are imperfect and preferences clash. Then we anchor the conversation in the story of Ephesus—an influential city shaped by power and idols—where Paul planted deep roots and wrote with a pastor's heart. From there we trace the arc of Ephesians: identity in Christ first, then a new way of life. That shift reframes everything. Unity stops being a vague ideal and becomes a practical choice. Maturity stops being a cliché and becomes the steady refusal to chase trends, gossip, and outrage.Together we walk through the commands that give a church its shape: put off the old self, tell the truth, don't let anger rot your heart, do honest work so you can share, and speak only what helps. We talk about accountability and church discipline as acts of love that protect people and restore trust. And we push back on the thin mantra “do what makes you happy,” trading it for a richer invitation—do what makes you holy. Along the way, we share a vision for a serving church: Scripture-centered, Spirit-led, visible in the community, welcoming to strugglers, celebrating baptisms, and committed to forming kids and students who follow Jesus with courage. If you're hungry for a church that stretches you toward Christlikeness—and a community that helps you die to selfishness and live for a bigger mission—this conversation is for you. Listen, share it with a friend, and tell us one place you feel called to grow. If it resonates, subscribe, leave a review, and help more people find the show.

In the early 1990s, while serving in Port Alberni, British Columbia, he uncovered evidence of unimaginable atrocities: the systematic abuse, torture, and murder of Indigenous children in church-run residential schools. Rather than remain silent, Kevin spoke out, documenting mass graves and survivor testimonies that revealed a genocidal collusion between church, state, and corporate powers. And this was only the beginning of his fight.Refusing to be silenced, Kevin founded the International Tribunal into Crimes of Church and State (ITCCS), a groundbreaking platform to hold the powerful accountable through common law courts. His work has most recently exposed the Ninth Circle, a satanic cult allegedly involving high-ranking figures like Prince Andrew, King Charles, and Vatican officials, including Cardinals Reinhardt Marx and Timothy Dolan. Kevin's revelations are harrowing: children subjected to ritual sacrifices, the Vatican's complicity in MK ULTRA-style programming; and the use of military bases, churches, and even NATO headquarters for Ninth Circle ritual ceremonies. The stakes are high, and the enemy is formidable. Kevin's evidence points to a vast network - church, state, and corporate elites - protected by wealth, power, and a system that thrives on the expendability of children. He reveals how the Vatican and CIA collaborate. He warns of geopolitical maneuvers, such as attempts by Donald Trump and Cardinal Dolan to control Vatican funds, mirroring the forced resignation of Pope Benedict. Yet, amidst this darkness, Kevin sees hope: “You create hope by what you do,” he urges, calling on society to move from spectatorship to action.INTERIM REPORT:https://murderbydecree.com/2025/08/09/interim-report-of-the-special-prosecutor/#page-contentCONNECT WITH KEVIN:Email: angelfire101@protonmail.comPhone: 289-680-8724Websites:-Republic of Kanata: https://republicofkanata.org/-Radio Free Kanata: https://bbsradio.com/radiofreekanata-'Murder by Decree' & other books published by Kevin: https://murderbydecree.com/#books-'Unrepentant' Documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Czej73SfYJcCONNECT WITH THE IMAGINATION:EMAIL: imagineabetterworld2020@gmail.comMy Substack: https://emmakatherine.substack.com/BUY ME A COFFEE: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/theimaginationAll links: https://direct.me/theimaginationpodcastRIFE TECHNOLOGIES:https://realrifetechnology.com/15% Code: 420CZTL METHELENE BLUE:https://cztl.bz?ref=2BzG1Free Shipping Code: IMAGINSupport the show

In today's episode, Philip Ziegler joins the podcast to talk about his new Baylor Press book God's Adversary and Ours. Ziegler leads us on a cautious but determined biblical-theological exploration of the identity, ontology, and agency of "that old serpent," the Enemy, whose image becomes most discernible and salient in direct contact with the person and work of the Savior. Fixing attention upon the figure of the devil in a soteriological context confronts us with what the devil does; what the devil might be trails behind. Treating diabolical temptation, demonic possession, and devilish falsehood in turn, Ziegler demonstrates what resistance to—and faithful disbelief of—these three aspects of the devil's business might mean for the shape of a Christian life.Professor Philip G. Ziegler is a theologian specializing in systematic theology, historical theology, and ethics. He holds the personal chair of Professor of Christian Dogmatics at the University of Aberdeen's School of Divinity, History, Philosophy & Art History. Previously, he taught at the Atlantic School of Theology in Canada and held postdoctoral fellowships at Princeton University. Ordained in the United Church of Canada since 1996, he also serves as an associated elder at St Machar Cathedral and Trustee of the Church of Scotland's General Assembly. His research focuses on Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Karl Barth, and apocalyptic theology, with recent work exploring Christology, ethical responsibility, and divine freedom.

What does it look like for a church's budget, bylaws, and building to reflect the values of justice and faith? In this episode of the Future Christian Podcast, host Loren Richmond Jr. speaks with Rev. Dr. Sheryl Johnson, theologian, ethicist, and author of Serving Money, Serving God: Aligning Radical Justice, Christian Practice, and Church Life (Fortress Press, 2023). Together they explore how churches can move beyond good intentions to embody justice through everyday practices—especially around finance, fundraising, stewardship, and administration. They discuss: Why church administration is theological, not just logistical How job postings and pay scales reveal a congregation's real values The pitfalls of donor-centered fundraising and better alternatives Honest communication about money, failure, and hope How churches can make ethical decisions about property and buildings What it means to see the local church as a foretaste of God's reign Sheryl challenges pastors and leaders to re-imagine what “faithful stewardship” truly means in today's world—where economic justice, transparency, and collaboration are essential for credible ministry. Sheryl Johnson (she/her) is a settler on Ohlone land and was born in Treaty 1 Territory in what is colonially known as Winnipeg, Canada. She began teaching at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in the fall of 2020, as she was defending her PhD in Theology and Ethics at Graduate Theological Union. Her dissertation focused on the intersections of social justice (racial, economic, gender, etc) and ecclesial practices (specifically stewardship, finance, and polity). A book based on her dissertation, Serving Money, Serving God:  Aligning Radical Justice, Christian Practice, and Church Life, was published by Fortress Press in 2023. Sheryl is an ordained minister in the United Church of Canada, with dual standing in the United Church of Christ. Sheryl has served several congregations, campus ministries, ecumenical advocacy organizations (especially KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives and the Student Christian Movement/World Student Christian Federation), and global church partners (specifically the National Council of Churches of the Philippines and People's Action Forum in Zambia), in addition to her academic work. She completed her M.Div and MPS degrees at Emmanuel College, University of Toronto and also completed a Certificate of Specialization in Theology and Ecology at the University of St. Michael's College during her theological studies. Sheryl is passionate about embodied, participatory, and critical pedagogies and supporting students to make connections between justice commitments and vocational practices.    Mentioned Resources:

Known as Eagle Strong Voice, Kevin's life transformed when he uncovered horrific crimes at the Port Alberni Indian Residential School in the early 1990s. His refusal to stay silent cost him his ministry, marriage, and reputation, as the United Church and Canadian authorities blacklisted him. Undeterred, Kevin's courage ignited a movement to expose systemic genocide, leading him to confront one of the world's most powerful institutions: the Vatican.Kevin's groundbreaking work began with the 1998 human rights tribunal in Vancouver, where he documented Canada's residential school genocide, forcing the nation to face its dark past. His award-winning documentary Unrepentant and books like Hidden from History: The Canadian Holocaust brought global attention to the deaths of thousands of Indigenous children, compelling Canada's 2008 apology. But Kevin's mission didn't stop there. In 2010, he co-founded the International Tribunal into Crimes of Church and State (ITCCS), uniting survivors across 26 countries to hold the Vatican, British Crown, and others accountable for crimes against humanity. His efforts led to the historic resignation of Pope Benedict in 2013 after the ITCCS convicted him of complicity in child trafficking and abuse. As discussed on our last episode, Kevin has now set his sights on exposing the shadowy Ninth Circle cult and its sinister leader, our current Pope, Pope Leo. Through the International Common Law Court of Justice (ICLCJ), where he serves as a chief advisor, Kevin is spearheading a 2025 criminal lawsuit charging Pope Leo with murder, conspiracy, and crimes against humanity. Drawing on chilling eyewitness testimonies, Vatican archives, and INTERPOL records, Kevin's investigation reveals Pope Leo's alleged role in ritualistic child sacrifice, trafficking, and drug trade cover-ups, implicating other global elites like Donald Trump, King Charles III, Cardinal Dolan and even the CEO of Pfizer. Today, he will be updating us on what's happened since the last time he was on, where the case stands today, and what is next.Kevin is a beacon of hope, proving one voice can challenge empires. Church was never meant to be a place you go — it's who you are! In this series, we are pulling back the curtain on what it really means to follow Jesus! Because faith isn't about filling a seat for an hour on Sunday — it's not about attendance, it's about action. It's not about a building, it's about who we are becoming. It's time to move from sitting to serving, from watching to walking it out! So let's stop GOING to church — and let's start BEING the church! • Westbridge Church is people helping people FIND and FOLLOW JESUS! We believe that no matter where you are in your faith, there's always a next step you can take to grow in your relationship with God. As a church, we are committed to continually growing and encouraging others to grow in their faith, connect in community, share God's grace, serve others, live generously, and have serious fun along the way. Send me a DM here (it doesn't let me respond), OR email me: imagineabetterworld2020@gmail.comToday I'm honored to have back on the show: Podcast regular, United Church Minister turned whistleblower, Canadian Hero, humanitarian, loving father, published writer and author, public speaker and podcaster, documentary filmmaker, Nobel Peace Prize nominee, co-founder of the International Tribunal into Crimes of Church and State, righteous soul, and Eagle Strong Voice: Kevin AnnettBorn in Edmonton, Canada, in 1956, Kevin is a former United Church minister turned global human rights crusader whose relentless pursuit of truth has shaken the foundations of power. Known as Eagle Strong Voice, Kevin's life transformed when he uncovered horrific crimes at the Port Alberni Indian Residential School in the early 1990s. Kevin's groundbreaking work began with the 1998 human rights tribunal in Vancouver, where he documented Canada's residential school genocide, forcing the nation to face its dark past. Now, Kevin has set his sights on exposing the shadowy Ninth Circle cult and its sinister leader, Robert Prevost, aka our current Pope: Pope Leo. Through the International Common Law Court of Justice (ICLCJ), where he serves as a chief advisor, Annett is spearheading a 2025 criminal lawsuit charging Pope Leo with murder, conspiracy, and crimes against humanity. Drawing on chilling eyewitness testimonies, Vatican archives, and INTERPOL records, Kevin's investigation reveals Pope Leo's alleged role in ritualistic child sacrifice, trafficking, and drug trade cover-ups, implicating global elites like Donald Trump, King Charles III, Cardinal Dolan - who's name you've heard on this podcast before from Catholic School survivor Chris O'Leary, and even the CEO of Pfizer. Today, he will be detailing these accusations, galvanizing a global call for justice.INTERIM REPORT: https://murderbydecree.com/2025/08/09/interim-report-of-the-special-prosecutor/#page-contentCONNECT WITH KEVIN:Email: angelfire101@protonmail.comPhone: 289-680-8724Websites:-Republic of Kanata: https://republicofkanata.org/-Radio Free Kanata: https://bbsradio.com/radiofreekanata-'Murder by Decree' & other books published by Kevin: https://murderbydecree.com/#books-'Unrepentant' Documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Czej73SfYJcCONNECT WITH THE IMAGINATION:EMAIL: imagineabetterworld2020@gmail.comMy Substack: https://emmakatherine.substack.com/BUY ME A COFFEE: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/theimaginationAll links: https://direct.me/theimaginationpodcastRIFE TECHNOLOGIES:https://realrifetechnology.com/15% Code: 420CZTL METHELENE BLUE:htSupport the show

On May 2, 1963, Robert Killins, a former United Church minister, slaughtered every woman in his family but one. She (and her brother) lived to tell the story of what motivated a talented man who had been widely admired, a scholar and graduate from Queen's University, to stalk and terrorize the women in his family for almost twenty years and then murder them. Through extensive oral histories, Sharon Anne Cook and Margaret Carson painstakingly trace the causes of a femicide in which four women and two unborn babies were murdered over the course of one bloody evening. While they situate this murderous rampage in the literature on domestic abuse and mass murders, they also explore how the two traumatized child survivors found their way back to health and happiness. Their book is called The Castleton Massacre: Survivors' Stories of the Killins Femicide and the authors join me to discuss this horrific and very personal tragedy.
