When life falls apart in ways you never expected, trust that God is still writing a story of redemption through it all.
Welcome to SC Church Podcast! We're so glad you could join us. Today Pastor Denny Rodney Duron shared with us his message:“You Asked For It; Faith and Suffering: Why do Bad Things Happen to Good People?"
How do we make sense of bad things happening to good people. It's a very human question. One we've been asking since Genesis 3 and the fall of man. Today we will tackle this question and in all of it, see the goodness of God
April 25, 2026 - Equipped 2026 - Day 3 - 11:00 AM Session In this sermon-style episode Caleb addresses the classic question: Why do bad things happen if God is all-powerful and all-loving? Beginning with the philosophical problem of evil, the speaker explains why the old atheist argument against God has lost force and emphasizes that God's providence may include reasons we can't fully see. Using everyday analogies (a bicycle mishap, an airbag repair, the movie Sliding Doors) and real-life stories, the episode illustrates how small, unseen causes can shape far-reaching outcomes. The speaker outlines four biblical reasons God allows suffering: (1) to draw people nearer to know and love God (supported by 2 Corinthians 12:7–10, James 1:2–4, Romans 5:3–5); (2) to glorify God by demonstrating faithful endurance in the face of trials (Job's example and Jesus' teaching on persecution); (3) to put temporal suffering in perspective against the incomparable, eternal reward of heaven (2 Corinthians 4:16–18; Mark 9:43–48); and (4) to show that knowing God is an incomparable good worth sacrifice (illustrated by Paul's testimony of counting prior achievements as loss). The episode references multiple Scripture passages (Isaiah 43:6–7; 1 Corinthians 10:31; 1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9; 2 Corinthians 12:7–10; James 1:2–4; Acts 14:22; Romans 5:3–5; 2 Corinthians 4:16–18; Mark 9:43–48) and mixes theological explanation with practical applications: trust God's providence even when reasons are hidden, allow trials to build character and deepen relationships, let suffering reveal the worth of God to others, and hold an eternal perspective that makes present pain feel small by comparison. Listeners can expect a compassionate, scripture-rooted exploration of suffering that balances honest acknowledgement of pain with encouragement: suffering has purposes, Christians are called to persevere and glorify God through trials, and ultimate justice and restoration will be realized in eternity. The speaker invites follow-up conversations and offers to share slides or resources for further study. Duration 39:32

What if your deepest doubts aren't signs of weak faith, but actually the gym where your faith is being built? You'll discover that God isn't threatened by your questions—He welcomes them with the same kindness Jesus showed to doubting Thomas. Through the story of Thomas and personal reflections on wrestling with doubt during infertility and family struggles, you can expect to learn how doubt can become the very tool that deepens your relationship with God rather than destroys it. You'll be invited to bring your heaviest questions to a God who is big enough to handle them and faithful enough to answer them.Passages in this message:John 20:24-29Luke 22:14-20James 1:5-8Subscribe to stay updated with the latest content from The Story!TAKE YOUR NEXT STEP HERE:Thestorygr.com/connectJOIN US IN PERSON:The Story Church475 6 Mile Road NW, Comstock Park, MI 49321You can support the ministry happening at The Story at thestorygr.com/give#thestorychurch #comstockparkmi

Send a textIn 1981 Rabbi Harold Kushner wrote a book on suffering. He decided to write this when he learned that his beloved son Aaron had a terrible disease that would turn him into an old man even as a child. Aaron died at eight. Kushner reflected upon why an innocent child should suffer so much. Could God have prevented this? Kushner turned to the story of Job to try to understand. If you like this podcast, I hope you will read the book. And another book, Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankel. I also have a podcast on that book.
On a peaceful fall day, Tim Aileen Challies' son, a seminary student engaged to be married, suddenly collapsed during a pickup game on campus. He would never come home. In this candid conversation, Tim Aileen share what followed: shock, isolation, a marriage grieving in different languages, and the search for God in the silence. When the unthinkable happens, you may find yourself asking, “Why does God let bad things happen?”—and wonder if your faith is strong enough to hold you. Or maybe, you'll discover it's holding you. Catch the message, "Why Do Bad Things Happen To Good People?" by Pastor Ben Stapley.A good God allows evil not because He desires it, but because His genuine love and moral goodness require free will. Without the ability to choose wrongly, humans could not truly choose what is right. Evil arises from the misuse of this freedom. Yet God can bring redemption, growth, and greater good even out of suffering.
Have you ever wondered why bad things happen to good people? When Jesus was asked this question, he responded by inviting people to think differently about the present moment because no one knows what the future will hold. We tend to dwell on the past or worry about the future, but Jesus reminds us all we have is what we do with the moment we're in. The invitation to reimagine and re-evaluate our life in light of his love is always open. If God's Word is true, and he loves us enough to let his Son die for us, and he holds all power, then why do we experience so many painful things? Who is really responsible for the problems in the world and the pain in our life?
This is the recording of my short presentation and the Q&A at the second Conversations With Modern Stoicism event, hosted in July 2023 by Phil Yanov. Asked to give a short and provocative presentation about an issue that arises in the everyday applications of Stoicism, I chose to focus on a common mistake and distortion of Stoic philosophy and practice. Quite a few people think that Stoicism means that a person shouldn't exhibit or feel care, concern, or compassion for others who experience something that they view and react to as "bad". There are indeed some passages from Stoic authors that one can take out of context to justify such a stance. But when Stoicism is rightly understood, and when we look at other, equally authoritative passages, we see that the authentic Stoic position is to be compassionate and concerned with others.
When something bad happens to my kids — a fight with a friend, a missed goal, a tough day — I don't rush to fix it. I'm actually… a little happy.
