Allison Vincent is a performer, director, writer, and teacher known for devised work, physical theatre, and gender-bending performances. She has been honored to collaborate with companies and theaters across the Twin Cities, including The History Theater, Jon Ferguson Theater, WLDRNSS, Theater Forever, The Four Humors, Mainly Me, The Illusion, The Guthrie, Frank Theatre, Sod House, Strike Theatre, Transatlantic Love Affair, the University of Minnesota, and Walking Shadow. Allison has received two Ivey Awards for her work creating performance in ensembles and three Golden Lanyard Awards from the MN Fringe as a director.  In addition to performing, Allison is a co-artistic director and founding member of Transatlantic Love Affair, a teaching artist at the Guthrie Theater and Loft Literary Center, and has collaborated as a writer on over twenty produced scripts. In 2022 Allison wrote and performed a solo storytelling show about caretaking for her father succumbing to dementia as a Pillsbury House + Theatre's Naked Stages Fellow. Recently she's had her scripts published in The Empty Room, Rejection Letters, Dirty Girls Come Clean, and Roi Fainéant Press. She teaches at the University of Minnesota in the Writing Studies Department's First Year Writing Program. LinkedIn   Taja Will (they/them) is a non-binary, chronically ill, queer, Latinx (Chilean) adoptee. They are a performer, choreographer, somatic therapist, consultant and Healing Justice practitioner based in Mni Sota Makoce, on the ancestral lands of the Dakota and Anishinaabe. Taja's approach integrates improvisation, somatic modalities, text and vocals in contemporary performance. Their aesthetic is one of spontaneity, bold choice making, sonic and kinetic partnership and the ability to move in relationship to risk and intimacy. Will's artistic work explores visceral connections to current socio-cultural realities through a blend of ritual, dense multi-layered worldbuilding and everyday magic. Taja initiates solo projects and teaching ventures and is a recent recipient of the Jerome Hill Artist Fellowship, in the dance field, awarded in 2021. Their work has been presented throughout the Twin Cities and across the United States. Including local performances at the Walker Art Center Choreographer's Evening, the Red Eye Theater's New Works 4 Weeks, the Radical Recess series, Right Here Showcase and the Candy Box Dance Festival. They were the recipient of a 2018-'19 McKnight Choreography Fellowship, administered by the Cowles Center and funded by The McKnight Foundation. On today’s episode, guest host Molly Elkins ‘21, a Presidential Scholar who is double majoring in Philosophy and Biochemistry, Cell, and Molecular Biology, sits down with Dr. Teresa Grettano, Associate Professor of English & Theater and the Director of the First-Year Writing Program at the University, to discuss the life of Ignacio Ellacuria, S.J., one of the Jesuit martyrs from the Salvadoran Civil War, on what would have been his 90th birthday.

This episode’s guest is Paula Mathieu, English professor in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences at Boston College, and Director of the First-Year Writing Program, and Founder of the Writing Fellows Program there. Paul is the author of the ground-breaking book “Tactics of Hope: The Public Turn in English Composition”, a book that is especially important in these times of communication that happens in 140 characters or less, and communication that often incites immediate controversy. She’s worked to expand her ideas about what it takes to practice the kind of social justice that a university should foster. She’s on the editorial boards of College Composition and Communication, and the prominent book series, “Writing and Rhetoric."

Rhetoricity returns, coming to you from its new home base: Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee! MTSU's Department of English hosts an annual event called the Peck Research on Writing Symposium. In 2016, that symposium featured a presentation by Dr. Derek Mueller, Associate Professor of Written Communication and Director of the First-Year Writing Program at Eastern Michigan University. This episode features an interview recorded during his visit. Mueller's work has appeared in the journals College Composition and Communication, Composition Forum, Kairos, and Present Tense. He has two forthcoming book projects: Cross-Border Networks in Writing Studies and Network Sense: Methods for Visualizing a Discipline. Internationally known rhetorician, Andrea Lunsford, gave a lecture/workshop to the First-Year Writing Program at Eastern Michigan University on August 20th, 2015.

English professor Susan Lang has been guided by an appreciation for words and technology on her unique journey as an Integrated Scholar. Originally a student of British literature, Lang was in graduate school when she took advantage of an opportunity to work with computer networks. The experience spurred her interest in computers and writing, and led her to merge those subjects in her scholarship. Her research centers on data mining, hypertext theory and instructional design. Such emerging topics have helped to shape curriculum and policies for Texas Tech’s First-Year Writing Program, which she has directed since 2006. The program delivers hybrid courses (both online and in the classroom) to first-year students. Lang takes a lead role in the courses’ production, from curriculum development to instructor training to the creation of assessment models. Aside from managing the writing program, Lang has channeled her skills in administration to service roles on university committees, including the Core Curriculum Committee, the Quality Enhancement Plan Development Committee, and the Writing Advisory Committee. Outside of Texas Tech’s environs, Lang has worked with the theater group The Drama League of New York for about 20 years, eventually rising from volunteer website designer to the board of directors.
