The Friday Mental Health Power Hour w/ Scotty P and Ev on WWDB 860 AM and 97.5 FM HD2 Philadelphia
The Friday Mental Health Power-Hour with Scotty P and Ev, professional motivational speakers with lived mental health experiences, is a show dedicated to having meaningful conversations around mental health. Unlike many other mental health programs, The Friday Mental Health Power Hour is designed to leave the listener feeling both inspired and empowered to tackle even the largest of mental health challenges! Due to their own journeys with mental health, Scott Prendergast (aka Scotty P) and Evan Transue (aka Ev) feel it is part of their path here on earth to share what they have gone through and learned with as many people as possible. Through their show, they hope to change the societal perspectives around mental health, as well as leave you feeling like you ended the week on a great note! Your Hosts Scotty P Scott J Prendergast is a full-time inspirational speaker and mental health advocate based in Philadelphia, PA. A graduate of Temple University, Scott speaks about the importance of acknowledging mental health in society, and encourages techniques to overcome the everyday mental obstacles that hold us back in life. Scott travels across the country speaking to audiences ranging from high school students, to adults, while sharing his own story of hope and resilience in learning to overcome depression. Scott uses a practical approach of mindful strategies combined with a compassionate touch to help others validate their own feelings, and work towards moving past them. You can find out more about Scott by going to www.scottypinspiration.com. Ev Evan Transue dealt with severe mental health issues from the age of 5 until 18. Due to an unintentional lack of recognition of these problems, Evan did not receive proper treatment until 18 years old. After getting kicked out of school, sent to juvie, and spending his 18th birthday on house arrest, Evan had his “aha” moment that led him to realize he needed to change his path. After finally getting his mental health issues addressed, he knew what he had to do: share his story with others who were suffering so they never had to go through what he did. Now, Evan goes around the country speaking to middle school and high school students, as well as incoming college freshmen. Using his lived experiences, he connects with his audiences to encourage them to speak up about the mental health challenges they may be facing in silence. While Evan is aware that we might not be able to stop mental health issues overall, he does believe we do NOT need to live in a world where young people find themselves in crisis situations. You can find out more about Evan by going to www.evantransue.com.
Wrong ways and Right ways of Handling Loss of Gold. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/healingplace/message
This week's episode is a bit gloomier than our usual topics. But life isn't always full of sunshine, and we feel it's important to discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly. We're going to be speaking on how to handle a loss and the grief that comes from it. Both of us have recently had to go through this very process, and we want to share the tips we have for finding peace.
I get that right now everyone feels like they've lost so much. I get it. This episode I'm reaching out to anyone who needs me.
How do you handle losing? Today Riley shares John C. Maxwell's advice for handling loss discussed in his book Sometimes You Win Sometimes You Learn. Processing Grief and Handling Loss - part four. How many people does it take to change a ….? I mean, how many sections can you divide one normal length sermon into? In this instance five . . . We hope you will find this brief fourth part a blessing. The trumpet music is by Torelli, beautifully played by Anthony interspersed with the opening movement of Cimarosa's magnificent oboe concerto, with our friend Thomas from Berlin playing.
Processing Grief and handling loss - part 5 Here is the final part of the Talk on Grief which I gave recently in church. It looks at various ways in which we can minimise grief.
Adjusting to Changing Horizons This is the second part of a talk Robert gave recently in church to help those who are are standing alongside people who are going through the mill, as well as those who are suffering themselves. In case this sounds a rather daunting theme, we have made it more attractive by adding some of the exquisite music we recorded in our recent gathering at Regents Bible College. Amongst the fine music are pieces by Torelli, Handel and the beautiful Coventry Carol. Anthony Thompson was the trumpeter.
Processing grief and handling loss - part three When someone or something deeply precious is wrested from us, it leaves a deep wound. The very word ‘bereaved’ derives from the Dutch berauben - to rob or to plunder. We urgently need to let Christ’s love fill the hole. If we turn inwards in the wrong way, the ensuing isolation leads to a hardening of the heart which effectively hinders the re-energising vitality of God. We need to allow ourselves appropriate time and space in which to grieve. In her excellent book ‘To live again’ (a book that is well worth tracking down) Catherine Marshall records how, when she lost her famous preacher husband, she made the conscious decision – much against her natural temperament – to allow other people to come close and walk the journey with her. Where love is, God is. Nothing means more to those who are grieving, and the presence of prayers and presence of loved ones to love us back to strength. This brief extract is accompanied by a particularly moving piece of music written by a local composer and violinist, Michael Burnham.

On Memorial Day, Rev. Ron May preaches from Psalm 126.
My guest today, Sherry Cormier had it all: a thriving marriage to a loving husband, a vibrant career as a psychologist, a new home, a closely connected family of parents and daughters. But in a startling short span of time these anchors were ripped away. Her husband was diagnosed and died of cancer within six months her mother, father, sister, and even her beloved dog passed away. She was left reeling and stunned by a sharp, unendurable grief. From what she learned, she offers up the eight most effective tools for healing from one's loss. Dr. Cormier would like to give you a special report: Developing Seeds of Resilience for Handling Loss and Life Stresses. Simply send your name and email address to her at: sherrycormier@verizon.net For the first five people to respond you will also get a copy of her book Sweet Sorrow.
The death of a loved one or celebrity brings a since of loss. The fear of never again feeling what that person provided in our life creates a hole we often cannot imagine being filled again. The sadness and sorrow can be over-whelming and can often consume us for quite a while. On this episode, we talk about feeling the feelings, moving through those feelings and opening awareness to the true connection with that person that is never broken. In holding our loved ones in our heart and memories, we honor them and the relationship. Through our loving thoughts, we nurture and expand the love that will never subside. Loss is an illusion.

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain
What happens seconds after death? We’re all gonna die, but what about after? There are a lot of questions but no easy answers. Let’s talk about heaven, hell and everything in between.
