For every dollar earned above that amount, pension payments are reduced by 50 cents on every dollar. The Work Bonus will be increased from December 1, taking it from $7,800 a year to $11,800 for this financial year. But the measure will expire on July 1.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In an effort to ease Australia's skill shortage crisis, the Albanese Government has announced that pensioners will be able to earn an extra $4000 each financial year through a one-off income credit, without losing their benefits. The policy change is expected to cost the government around $55 million. Ian Henschke, Chief advocate of National Seniors Australia told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that it is a positive step towards what Australia needs to achieve in addressing the skills shortage crisis. "We did a survey and we found that 20% of pensioners said that they were willing to go back to work but the biggest stumbling blocks in order was, ageism, Centrelink and the way that they lose their pension money if they work beyond a certain point," he told Oly. "What has been announced today is part of the solution as you will not lose your concession card no matter you earn for the next two years."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Clinton Maynard is joined by Ian Henschke, Chief Advocate for National Seniors Australia, for his thoughts on Labor's aged care policies and today's planned walkout by aged care workers in South Australia, Western Australia & Queensland. If elected, Labor has promised more carers and that every aged care facility will be required to have a registered, qualified nurse on site, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Also discussed is today's planned walkout by aged care workers in South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland which National Seniors Australia says could have been avoided if the government had adopted a plan to get more seniors back into the workforce. Australia's peak consumer and advocacy organisation for older Australians has stepped up its ‘Let Pensioners Work' campaign which it says would benefit sectors such as aged care. Mr Henschke says, “If politicians in Canberra would give the plan a go to let pensioners work in vital sectors such as aged care, without financial penalty there would be more aged care workers available.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
