Michelle Lange is the Perfect Daughter of an alcoholic parent. In turn she spends each day controlling the urge to want a drink and not become her father. In Michelle's words: I have learned that I must function perfectly in order to avoid unpleasant situations.  I enjoy controlled chaos because I function best in a chaotic environment.  I do everything at 100%.I am a proud mother of 2 children and partner to my better half, Jason.  I am the athletic director of the Thames Valley Regional Athletic Association and I own my own Social Media freelance business. I am innovative and motivated with vast experience creating content and managing the online presence of small businesses.  I have a passion for engaging, inspiring, and informing the community through social media platforms which results in an active community of followers.  I have an overarching passion for women in athletics and advocating for youth in sport.Michelle's 3 top insights: 1. I overwork b/c I thrive in controlled chaos.  I get more done that most people in a 24 hour period2. Trauma in my childhood has made it so that I have difficulty with true intimacy, I struggle to control my drinking (very good at functioning), and I feel that I lack necessary skills as a parent even though I had the best mother anyone could ask for.3. Daughters of alcoholic fathers tend to lie when they don’t need to.  I am not sure why.  But I do this…. and for no reason.  I like to think of it more like embellishing facts…..I make a great storyteller sometimes…. but it’s not necessary.Don't miss another episode. In Michelle's words: Social drinking is a way to fit in and be a part of a group yet when you choose to say no everyone treats you like you are no fun.  The crowd will tell you to loosen up just one drink  can’t hurt. But, truth is drinking doesn’t give you confidence. In fact, it creates numbness in your body and brain so that your thoughts are unclear and your body’s reactions slower and uncoordinated as you become drunk. The false confidence created by the boost of sugar from the alcohol is temporary and leads to dangerous consequences especially if the person wants to drive. I will cover the ways to say no thanks without guilt or regret.  Tune in to hear the best ways to gain confidence with others without a drink of alcohol.I have experienced the damaging effects of alcoholism through my family and friends who hurt themselves or others in auto accidents when they were drunk.  Also, as a child I saw the negative effects of alcoholism within my family trying to hide the problem and not dealing with it. We all make choices about how we want to live our lives however being responsible about how we react to our circumstances takes courage not to give in and mask our pain through alcohol.I coach people to help them dissolve their stress and anxiety about their lives so they can make healthy choices confidently that eliminates their desires to drink alcohol.I offer an introductory coaching package (4 weekly sessions) to gain clarity on how to quickly relieve stress and/or anxiety instead of reaching for a drink or two to solve the problem.www.fromstresstograce.comDon't miss another episode. Host John Ivor Chester talks with Oiler Michelle Gerdes about what she's learned surrounding the healing connection between frequency and essential oils. With over 25 years of success in psychiatric facilities as a music therapist, John has created several successful programs for addiction treatment, depression, PTSD to name a few. In Michelle's therapeutic environments, she's discovered we respond to frequencies all the time, and essential oils have a unique effect on our individual vibrations, too. Michelle is quick to point out that although they tend to have an unfavorable view in Christian religious circles, words like 'frequency', 'vibration', 'energy healing', and 'essential oil therapy' are not merely New Age doctrine. Our bodies are made of energy, and respond to electromagnetic frequencies, hydration, aromatherapy, and chromotherapy and others in the same way we respond to music through tempo, melody, harmony, and chords. Music can reflect or effect your atmosphere, but used correctly, it improves it. Michelle challenges us to walk in spiritual authority to experience the best life possible using all the tools in our toolbox and guided by Holy Spirit. In the natural, physical world, we are drawn to things that don't help us. With essential oils, the frequency and nutrition of the oil utilize the chemistry of our makeup to help on an emotional level. Enjoy this fascinating episode of Power of a Positive Playlist as John and Michelle expose a perspective on spirit, mind, and body healing through frequency and essential oils little understood in Western culture. Our guest on the show today, and what she teaches, has had a profound effect on our host, Michelle Bosch. In Michelle’s journey to find some physical relief from the stress of being a real estate investor, a wife, and a mom, she also found great peace, focus, and rest as a result of practicing yoga nidra. She even ties this practice to opening up streams of abundance in both life and business.  Michelle’s conversation in this episode is with Kamini Desai, the executive director at the Amrit Institute and an expert in transformational sleep and yoga nidra. Having been awarded the title of Yoga Shwari, a yoga master with the ability to bring ancient illumination to the challenges of the human experience, she’s worked with well known companies such as Sony, Mars, Kelloggs, The Department of Corrections, and The Department of Netherlands Government. As we learn through Kamini, the practice of yoga nidra is a form of relaxation that uses the biology of our bodies to enter a natural state of meditation. During the process, our minds follow our brain waves towards sleep. Our state of mind becomes further and further away from our thoughts which leaves us in a transitional, twilight zone.  As Kamini explains, this phase allows our parasympathetic system to become more balanced with our sympathetic system giving our bodies a major release from tension and stress. Not only does Kamini give you insight on how yoga nidra works on a surface level, but you will learn what this means for your bodies on a biochemical level.  Through releasing hormones and neurotransmitters in our prefrontal cortex, our moods improve, immune systems strengthen, and minds become clearer.  This episode is full of both the science of yoga nidra, and the “why” behind a practice like this for all driven women who wear many hats. It’s good for the guys too! Listen in to hear how Jack, Michelle’s husband and business partner, uses yoga nidra in his own way! With over ten-years of experience as a weight loss specialist, Michelle shares insights most trainers and even bariatric doctors (weight loss docs) don't know.  Michelle put together a fascinating theory and been working with hundreds of women in her famous and effective Women Being Fit programs based on her new theories. Michelle’s brand-new lose weight and keep it off program details: Your cells literally get “addicted” to your weight loss struggle. Your cells (fat and nervous cells) get “off” on the “sensation” of struggle: keeping you caught repeating the struggle over and over again. Your subconscious is running your struggle and sabotages your efforts. Michelle’s program (which she runs in the gorgeous state of Hawaii rather than the state of denial, ha!) teaches you how to retrain your fat cells and neurology to work “with” you rather than “against” you. A big part of keeping weight off, is finding inner emotional “peace”. No sign up, no cost, just a community to support you in doing your thing for 30 days!! Here are a few of the big topics we talked about: The Imposter Syndrome is a behavioral phenomenon of highly competent individuals who dismiss their accomplishments, attribute success to outside forces, and fear being revealed as a fraud or imposter. Sufferers of the Imposter Syndrome have difficulty internalizing success. Michelle is a former corporate high achiever and author of “Own Your Brilliance” Exhausted by giving all of herself to those around her and sensing the overwhelm of stress from her corporate job, she manifested an opportunity of working from home. She developed inner fortitude by morning devotional time, reading, and journaling. The five competency tendencies: Perfectionist - extremely high expectations, harsh inner criticism and shame Natural genius - assuming you have no natural inclination if a task isn’t easy Expert - needing to become  more and more of an expert through credentials, certifications, and mastery, but always striving never thriving Rugged individualist, the soloist - believes true competence is achieving task on their own; asking for help solidifies that they’re a phony, then shame is felt Super human - grad students are heavy sufferers; all duties should be fulfilled masterfully; to be perfect in every role; to juggle it all and make it look easy; She still practices, reviews, and reminds herself of what triggers imposter thoughts Michelle has an ability to see through difficult behaviors of others as how they’re dealing with hurt and she gives people a space to share their brokenness. Her empathy and love helps them change their lives. Show up, play big, play brightly. No more holding back on true gifts! That goes for everybody. It’s about living through to our inspired potential. In Michelle’s Voice: “It’s a behavioral phenomenon experienced by highly competent individuals, where they have a difficulty internalizing their success.” “It’s a matter of changing your agreements with yourself and the outside world to reduce the amount of suffering from things like overthinking, making assumptions, and being easily offended.” “I’m going to continue to create a space for people to dream bigger than they have been up to this point and eliminating fear as part of their experience.” “I had tapped into the reality of living as a corporate burnout. My mind was at work, my heart was at work. I had given so much of my identity to my career.” “The competency types of the imposter syndrome all lead to a fearful shame.” Connect with Michelle: Free Resources from Michelle YouTube Instagram Facebook

Last year I held a special live coaching session with Stacy Olsen Distefano, and at the end of the episode I put out a call to my listeners to see if anyone else felt brave enough to take the leap. Michelle Seymour Smith answered the call, and today you will hear another live coaching session that digs down deep into what motivates Michelle, what holds her back, and what she can do to disrupt herself. Sometimes when we hear about people disrupting themselves we imagine huge, sweeping changes. In Michelle’s case, she’s not looking to change companies or move, or even change jobs. She simply wants to take deliberate steps to make her feel like she’s empowering herself at work. She loves the company she works for. Having joined the team in its early days as a startup, Michelle feels an immense sense of achievement to see how much it has grown, and looking back she can see what an important role she played in that growth. It quickly became apparent that Michelle is not looking for a completely new path—she already has a phenomenal environment in which to work—but she feels rudderless and unsure of which direction she should go moving forward. What do you do when you don’t know “what’s next?” Join us as I help Michelle find that clarity, embrace her constraints, and leverage the skills she already has in her toolbox to find ways to disrupt herself.
