For natural-born fixers and problem solvers, the instinct to tackle every challenge head-on is deeply ingrained. Whether facing procrastination, overwhelm, or late-night scrolling habits, the immediate response is often to search for a solution. In this episode, I explore why the concept of "fixing yourself" may be counterproductive when it comes to creating lasting change. Drawing from Internal Family Systems theory and real-world examples, I share how shifting from a fixing mindset to one of understanding can transform our approach to personal growth and habit change. In this heartfelt episode of Typology, Anthony and I sit down with Elizabeth Husserl—an Enneagram One with a Two wing and the author of the beautiful new book The Power of Enough: Finding Joy in Your Relationship with Money. Elizabeth's story begins over two decades ago when she first encountered the Enneagram. What followed was nothing short of transformational. Her work with the Enneagram didn't just shape her inner life—it helped heal her marriage and completely reframed her understanding of wealth. In our conversation, she invites us to imagine a richer, more expansive definition of money—one rooted in connection, belonging, and wholeness rather than scarcity and striving. Together, we explore: How the Enneagram can deepen personal growth and strengthen relationships Elizabeth's evolving relationship with money and what it's taught her The role of financial “DNA” and how we can begin to rewrite our inherited money stories Grounded practices for living with “enoughness” in every area of life If you're curious about how the Enneagram intersects with your financial story—or simply hungry for a more soulful approach to money—this episode is full of wisdom, vulnerability, and grace. You can learn more about Elizabeth's work at ElizabethHusserl.com, and follow her on Instagram @ElizabethHusserl for more insights.

Do you reflect on your experiences with self-criticism? In this episode, I revisit a powerful narrative technique called the "Once-Upon-a-Time" technique that helps you gain perspective on challenging situations and cultivate self-compassion. This two-part reflective practice transforms how you view your experiences by allowing you to step back and observe yourself through the lens of a neutral observer. The technique involves writing about a meaningful experience twice - first from your personal perspective, and then rewriting it as if you're an anthropologist studying someone else's story. Through this process, you discover hidden thought patterns and create space for a more balanced, compassionate view of yourself and your actions. Perfectionism can feel like a badge of honor, but it often hides a deeper fear of being seen as not enough. You pour time and energy into every detail, hoping it'll protect you from judgment or failure, but all it really does is keep you stuck. There's always one more thing to fix, one more reason not to hit “go.” Eventually, progress slows to a crawl, and what started as high standards turns into quiet self-sabotage. It's exhausting chasing an idea of success that never lets you rest. Claus Raasted doesn't just talk about change—he's lived it. After leading the world's biggest LARP design studio, a major career reset pushed him to rebuild from the ground up. Now a consultant and educator, he helps people cut through perfectionism and self-sabotage to unlock what actually works. He emphasizes using your strengths, not fixing every flaw, and speaks honestly about the traps of overthinking and burnout. His message is clear: success isn't about doing everything—it's about doing you better. Stay tuned! Resources: Are you looking for an overpaid rockstar consultant to help you with GETTING SHIT DONE? Do you feel like your urges seem to have a mind of their own? Those compelling impulses to check your phone, eat something sweet, or pour another glass of wine often feel like unwelcome intruders in our carefully planned lives. However, urges aren't problems to fix—they're messengers trying to communicate something important. I'll share a powerful metaphor that changed how I understand urges, along with practical prompts to help you decode what your urges are really trying to tell you. By approaching these impulses with curiosity instead of judgment, you can transform your relationship with them and access deeper self-knowledge. When you understand what drives your urges, you gain the freedom to choose how you respond to them. Get full show notes, transcript, and more information here: https://habitsonpurpose.com/171
If you've ever ghosted your own visibility, doubted yourself right before posting, or felt like you needed to perform to be chosen—this episode will hit deep. In this powerful solo episode of Flip the Switch, I'm unpacking the real reason visibility feels so triggering for so many self-led women—and why it has nothing to do with laziness or lack of confidence. We'll explore how your nervous system is wired for protection, not performance—and how old survival strategies might be showing up every time you try to take up space. Inside this episode, we'll explore: The post-delete spiral, the “I'm not ready yet” pattern, and what's really happening beneath it Why visibility is not just a strategy—it's an energetic and somatic experience How Polyvagal Theory explains the freeze/flee response to being seen How parts of you (like The Perfectionist or Inner Teen) might be trying to protect you from judgment or shame Tangible ways to practice regulated visibility and begin rewiring safety into your body My 3-step framework to begin building the emotional capacity to be fully seen, heard, and held This episode is for the woman who: Has a vision she's been hiding from Is done shrinking in her relationships, business, or voice Wants to feel grounded, powerful, and safe being fully expressed This isn't about hyping yourself up to be seen—it's about anchoring into a version of you who no longer needs to perform to belong. Want to go deeper? Inside The Mirror, we don't just talk about confidence—we build the emotional capacity and identity safety required to hold visibility, love, money, and leadership without bracing. Eight years ago, I landed myself in the office of a nurse practitioner/functional medicine specialist who specialized in gut health. I had been inexplicably bloated and exhausted for months and didn't know why. Little did I know that woman would go on to not only remedy my body, but change the overall trajectory of my life and career.Flash forward to today, while she's still an expert when it comes to our bodies, our nervous systems, and how the two speak to one another, her work is primarily focused on helping folks rid themselves of codependent, people-pleasing tendencies. And candidly, all the physical issues I suffered from back in 2017 were really just a manifestation of mental and emotional turmoil. Namely, living a life that was more based on external approval than internal fulfillment. She brings a really fresh perspective to codependency, and what she refers to as "emotional outsourcing."Beatriz (Béa) Victoria Albina, NP, MPH, SEP (she/her) is a UCSF-trained Family Nurse Practitioner, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, Master Certified Somatic Life Coach, author of the forthcoming "End Emotional Outsourcing: a Guide to Overcoming Codependent, Perfectionist and People Pleasing Habits" (expected Sept 30, Hachette Balance) and Breathwork Meditation Guide with a passion for helping humans socialized as women to reconnect with their bodies, regulate their nervous systems and rewire their minds, so they can break free from codependency, perfectionism and people pleasing and reclaim their joy.Work with me PrivatelyConnect on InstagramWebsitePodcast Production by James Jorge

Do you try to fix or suppress your anger, and feel guilty if you can't? Many of us have been taught to see anger as shameful, unprofessional, or even dangerous. As a result, we bottle it up, push it down, and try to ignore it. The cost of burying anger is emotional exhaustion and disconnection from ourselves. In this episode, I share a different approach to anger – one that views it not as a liability but as a messenger. I offer three powerful prompts to help you relate to your anger differently, allowing you to rebuild inner trust and reconnect with your authentic self without fear of explosive expression. With the assistance of some of the top OCPD mental health professionals, he was able to launch The OCPD Foundation. This foundation is now dedicated to assisting those with OCPD to successfully find the help that they need. In this deeply personal episode of Ditch the Binge, Renae shares the unexpected moment—during mile eight of a half marathon—when she realized she no longer identifies as bulimic. After over a decade of battling food, body image, and the shame that came with it, Renae reflects on how recovery slowly, quietly took root until one day… it just wasn't who she was anymore. She opens up about the years of bingeing and purging, the treatment programs, the obsessive research, and the painful identity that felt like it would always define her. But through consistent, messy, and unglamorous work, she found freedom. This episode is a raw, hopeful reminder that change doesn't always come in dramatic before-and-after moments—it builds quietly. And one day, without realizing it, you might just wake up and realize you're not who you used to be.Perfect for anyone in recovery, stuck in an identity they want to outgrow, or wondering if lasting change is really possible...Get Renae's book HERE.Follow her on IG here.Visit her website HERE. This episode is all about what happens when you combine years of working with people navigating eating disorders, a healthy dose of sarcasm, and way too many personal run-ins with perfectionism. I'm unpacking the idea I'm calling The Perfectionist Paradox—where striving for perfection actually gets in the way of the thing you're trying to do well in the first place. Neat trick, right? Tweetable Quotes “Thinking about what you're afraid of can help us open the door to what is driving your perfectionism.” - Rachelle Heinemann “The perfectionism target is always moving, which means that you will never be able to attain it, and that's kind of frustrating.” - Rachelle Heinemann “The idea of striving for perfection in some ways is trying to avoid imperfection, and that any sort of mistakes or flaws are just unacceptable.” - Rachelle Heinemann “One of the most important parts to understand about perfectionism is the illusion of control.” - Rachelle Heinemann “We are too busy focusing on how our body ends up looking... that we don't focus on what it is like to actually get there.” - Rachelle Heinemann “Vulnerability is not only about sharing deep, dark secrets.” - Rachelle Heinemann Resources Bergen Mental Health Group Inc. is hiring! Let's be real: some of us aren't just experiencing burnout—we're perfecting it. Overachieving our way into exhaustion. Piling on responsibilities like it's an Olympic sport. And believing that if we just get it right enough, peace and happiness will magically follow. In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Tiffany Moon, a board-certified anesthesiologist, CEO, speaker, entrepreneur, wine and candle maker (yes, really), and reality TV alum—basically a walking resume of overachievement. But she's also someone who knows what it feels like to chase perfection at the expense of joy—and how to break free from it. Her book, Joy Prescriptions, explores the cost of perfectionism and what it really takes to reclaim your happiness. Together, we're talking burnout, boundaries, high-achieving pressure, and how to stop proving your worth through productivity. In This Episode, We Cover: ✅ What perfectionist burnout really looks like (and why it's so sneaky) ✅ The hidden cost of tying your identity to achievement ✅ Why rest is not a reward—it's a requirement ✅ Practical ways to redefine success without burning out If you're tired of proving, pushing, or performing your way to “enough”—this one's for you.
