While most authors may not see Goodreads as a key player like Twitter or Facebook, it's actually the best place for authors to connect with readers. With no other distractions or reasons to spend time there, Goodreads provides a unique space for authors to connect with their audience.    As Alessandra explains, the Goodreads platform can connect authors to both existing fans and new readers by allowing people to follow you, get notifications about activity related to your books, and even get emails announcing your new releases. All of this is free, although Alessandra also goes over some of the paid options and their worth, such as hosting giveaways.    But regardless of how you decide to use it, the Goodreads algorithm doesn't limit your reach based on how much you spend, which is yet another advantage it has over the other social sites. "I can get your book onto the NYT bestseller list." "I can get your podcast ranked in the top 10 on Apple." "I can get you 8692.7 verified reviews on Amazon...in 2 days." The offers are everywhere. And of course they're appealing. Who WOULDN'T want to be on the New York Times bestseller list? Or have a top-rated podcast? Or have Hunger-Games-level reviews on Amazon? But the question often is, at what cost? (Literally.) And then, after nearly passing out upon hearing the answer, the next question is, "Do I HAVE to do that? Is there another way?" No, you don't. And yes, there is. Magic bullets sound exciting. But they're rarely sustainable. Bona fide shortcuts, on the other hand, ARE exciting. And yes, they require more work and time. But more often than not, work + time = joyful momentum, while magic bullet = quick (expensive) dopamine hit followed by months of sadness and confusion. The good news is that there ARE ways to leverage the system without outright gaming it (and, bonus, you don't end up incredibly disappointed when, within a week, the flash in the pan is fully extinguished and you're unsure how you'll cover next month's expenses). If getting one of these accolades is a bucket-list item for you and/or you have the cash to invest in the process, terrific. But if not, there are plenty of other creative ways to get the word out and nurture organic (sustainable!) growth when it comes to book sales and visibility. When I started out on the internet in the late 90’s it wasn’t as easy as it is today to get online and have a presence quickly. How To Create Internet Presence In 10 Minutes There were ways to create websites, but without knowledge of HTML or the desire to learn about web design it was a challenge.Most people invested large amounts of money to have their websites designed. Today any and everyone can create a web presence online overnight. Yes! You can have a web presence overnight. However the key is this, doing it right. I was online in the 2003, but it wasn’t right. The same struggles many are having today, I didn’t know the key and pivotal elements to getting started online right. How can one do it right? 1., Blog – Getting a blog is one of the fastest and cost effective ways to getting online today. Blogs are easy to update, which means there’s no need for a webmaster to make small and minute changes. The cost is either free, small base fee or you can host it yourself. It all depends your skill level. One thing, they are built to help you get started right. Search engines love blogs because they fuel their engine with content. 2., Keywords – These are the keys your audience use in order to find you online. I didn’t provide my target audience with a set of keys. Let’s say you have a blog or a website and you’re not getting the results you want. It’s possibility you haven’t defined your keywords.
