Namaste, Welcome to SAM-VAD (Together In Conversation). In the last week of January 2026, I shared an excerpt from a reflective field note titled ‘What AI Can't and Shouldn't Replace'. The field note points out that, what we'll give up for AI if we're not careful is an essential degree of challenge and struggle in our pursuits which has a refining influence on our beings and defines us as humans. Therefore, we need to keep these systems as useful tools—and not more. Maintaining trust in human judgement is key to preventing them becoming insufficient replacements for our natural intelligence, as imperfect as it can be. Now, SAM-VAD (Together In Conversation) to the ones paying heed, is where we try to draw your attention to things that matter and the importance of your attention, because, ‘Our life's experience would ultimately amount to whatever we had paid attention to'. Attention: is as fundamental as food; and we go blundering about, seeking ways to assuage the craving, instead of learning how to provide ourselves with what we need, sensibly and calmly. Once our attention is drawn to the mechanism of why and what we give attention to, it is as if a veil has been stripped off and we become freer in our action and choices. And that is our endavour. This week I bring to your attention an excerpt titled – ‘Ways to Think About Economy in the 21st Century', which is from the book titled – ‘Doughnut Economics' – Seven Ways to Think like a 21st Century Economist by Kate Raworth, she is an economist whose research focuses on the social and ecological challenges of the 21st century. She is a Senior Visiting Research Associate at Oxford University's Environmental Change Institute, and a Senior Associate of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. Ways to Think About Economy in the 21st Century “What if we started economics not with its long-established theories, but with humanity's long-term goals, and then sought out the economic thinking that would enable us to achieve them?” The author uses a doughnut to illustrate this. The essence of the doughnut is a social foundation of well-being that no one should fall below, and an ecological ceiling of planetary pressure that we should not go beyond. Between the two lies a safe and just space for all. Economy is a dynamic network with myriads of interconnections and feedback loops, many of them in the insubstantial realm of ideas. We must recognize this dynamic complexity and design economic systems which are naturally regenerative. Moreover, that we must change our attitude to growth so as to avoid over-exploitation, while encouraging evolution where it is needed. Excerpt from ‘Doughnut Economics' – Seven Ways to Think like a 21st Century Economist by Kate Raworth. I am sure that you will enjoy reading the book and find it thought provoking too; to read a detailed review and buy your copy, you can click on the following link: https://humanjourney.us/economy/doughnut-economics Enjoy reading it with your family, friends and near and dear one's. Namaste.

Emotions are not simple cause-and-effect reactions to events, but responses filtered through the stories your mind tells. Your thoughts act as a middleperson between what happens and how you feel, which means distorted thinking can create distorted emotions that don't actually match reality. Emotions involve your nervous system, body sensations, thoughts, and sometimes outward behavior; they are adaptive signals, not “good” or “bad.” The intensity, duration, and context of an emotion matter: how long it lasts, how strong it is, and how meaningful the situation is all shape whether your reaction fits the moment. Cognitive psychologists like Aaron Beck and Albert Ellis showed that emotions are driven by interpretations of events, not the events themselves, which means your feelings often reflect your thoughts about reality more than reality itself. When those interpretations are biased or extreme, your emotions become “amplified,” turning manageable concern into overwhelming dread and often driving unhelpful behaviors at work and in relationships. The seven emotional amplifiers All‑or‑nothing thinking: Only total success “counts,” so anything less feels like failure. Overgeneralization: One bad outcome becomes “this always happens to me.” Magnification/catastrophizing: Low‑probability worst‑case scenarios feel like near‑certainties. Jumping to conclusions: Neutral events (a missed call, a short email) get a negative meaning without evidence. Mind reading: Assuming you know what others think about you—usually something critical—without checking. “Should” statements: Rigid rules about how you, others, or the world must behave that fuel anger, resentment, and shame. Personalization: Taking responsibility for outcomes shaped by many factors, leading to excessive guilt. Thanks for Listening!

Seven Ways to Know You're in the Will of God • Sunday Service Website: www.PastorTodd.org To give: www.ToddCoconato.com/give Seven Ways to Know You're in the Will of God (And How You Know When You're Not) Let me tell you something up front: The will of God is not a mystery! Religion paints this picture like God is hiding His will from you, and you've got to stumble around in the dark hoping you trip into it. No! God's will is clear, God's will is knowable, and God's will brings you into blessing and kingdom advancement. If you're not in the will of God, you're wasting time, spinning your wheels, and giving the devil a foothold in your life. But when you're in His will, you don't just survive—you multiply, you advance, and you shake the nations for Christ. 1. Peace in Your Spirit Scripture: “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.” — Colossians 3:15 (NKJV) 2. Confirmation by the Word of God Scripture: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (NKJV) 3. Fruitfulness and Multiplication Scripture: “You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?” — Matthew 7:16 (NKJV) 4. Open Doors by God's Hand Scripture: “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.” — Revelation 3:8 (NKJV) 5. The Witness of the Holy Spirit Scripture: “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” — Romans 8:16 (NKJV) 6. Provision in the Assignment Scripture: “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:19 (NKJV) 7. Advancing the Kingdom of God Scripture: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) How You Know You're NOT in the Will of God Let me hit this quickly and clearly. The Bible shows us markers of being outside His will: 1. Confusion and unrest. “For God is not the author of confusion but of peace.” — 1 Corinthians 14:33 (NKJV) 2. Compromise against Scripture. “But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you… let him be accursed.” — Galatians 1:8 (NKJV) 3. Lack of fruit. “If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered.” — John 15:6 (NKJV) 4. Constant striving with no breakthrough. “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NKJV) 5. Ignoring conviction. “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” — Ephesians 4:30 (NKJV) 6. Living in lack. “You have sown much, and bring in little… he who earns wages, earns wages to put into a bag with holes.” — Haggai 1:6 (NKJV) 7. Self-glory instead of God's glory. “I am the Lord, that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another.” — Isaiah 42:8 (NKJV) Conclusion Friend, the will of God is not something you have to stumble into—it's something you step into by faith and obedience. When you're in His will, peace rules your heart, doors open, fruit multiplies, provision flows, and the Kingdom advances. When you're out of it, confusion reigns, doors slam shut, provision dries up, and your life feels like pushing a boulder uphill. Make up your mind tonight: I will live in the center of God's will. I will not be distracted. I will not compromise. I will not settle. Because when you're in His will—you're unstoppable.

After a three-year interim, Dad and I finally return to Reinhold Niebuhr's magisterial work, The Nature and Destiny of Man, first delivered as the Gifford Lectures in 1939, then revised and published in 1943. In this episode on vol. 2, we discuss what Dad cribbed from Niebuhr upon his first reading this book 55 years ago (!), the question of metanarratives and what we can (and can't) know about history, why the atonement is necessary, and of course, Sarah's favorite topic, the Parousia of Christ. This year of podcasting ends not with a whimper, but a bang! Looking toward an EIGHTH year of Queen of the Sciences? Show your support by becoming a Patron! Notes: 1. Related episodes: Niebuhr on the Nature of Man, Resurrection according to Macrina and Nyssa, Before Auschwitz, Doctrine to Bible (and Back Again), Cybertech and Personhood, Propaganda, The Image of God 2. Antti Raunio, "Martin Luther and Love" 3. Need more on communism? Try this very digestible approach in Sarah's memoir, I Am a Brave Bridge, about the Hinlicky family's year in Slovakia just after the fall of the iron curtain 4. Need more on the Parousia? Sarah's Forty Facets of the Ascension is now out on all platforms! And, guess what, lots on the Parousia in her Seven Ways of Looking at the Transfiguration, too!

One is that marketing is not all about generating revenue. If you focus on that alone, you are forced to kind of do anything that sticks and chase leads for instant gratification. What you want to do is build affinity and relationships with consumers, which really requires patience. The second truth is that good marketing strategies involve consistent, multiyear narratives based on the psychology of the consumer. You need to understand over time how a consumer reacts or what draws their attention. From this, you can develop and maintain a good marketing strategy. In order to engage consumers with marketing, you need to be authentic and have something that fits your brand. Authenticity is the guardrail and is the thing that will connect your brand or product with the consumer. They need to feel you are authentic and that your marketing is genuine and real. Not every brand belongs in every conversation and you need to think if your brand has a reason to be in the moment as it relates to your marketing. Take some time to think about that as you develop your marketing strategy.Listen in to learn more!3:16 Wearables & Real-World Health Coaching 7:00 Three Bitter Truths for Marketers9:14 Marketing Is Not Instant Revenue 17:30 Encouraging Uniqueness in Teams & Family19:13 Seven Ways to Learn Faster 24:54 Fast Advertising: Real-Time Marketing 27:07 Authenticity & Brand Relevance in Fast Advertising Tune in to today's episode and checkout the full show notes here.
Is the point of life to minimize suffering, or to understand and embrace it on some level? How do different belief structures view the ideal human response to negative situations? Is there a degree of suffering that would be bearable in order to enable something pleasurable that could offset it?Scott Samuelson is a professor of philosophy at Iowa State University and also the author of several books, Rome as a Guide to the Good Life: A Philosophical Grand Tour, The Deepest Human Life: An Introduction to Philosophy for Everyone, and Seven Ways of Looking at Pointless Suffering: What Philosophy Can Tell Us About the Hardest Mystery of All.Greg and Scott discuss the universal accessibility of philosophy, the role of suffering in human life, and the balance between fixing and facing suffering. Scott shares his experiences teaching philosophy in prisons and how men in prison viewed suffering from different perspectives. He also explores the philosophical implications of thinkers like Epictetus, Nietzsche, and John Stuart Mill. Their conversation touches on the themes of modernity, the significance of facing suffering, and finding meaning in both joy and pain. *unSILOed Podcast is produced by University FM.*Episode Quotes:Philosophy begins with wonder and deepens through suffering04:26: I think there's a kind of built-in wonder in all of us. But I also think, and this goes to the suffering book, that another thing that tends to make philosophers out of everyone is suffering. There's something about suffering that kind of blows our minds. I mean, a certain amount of suffering seems to make some sense. I mean, it makes some sense that my hand, you know, feels pain when it gets near a fire so that I protect myself. But almost everyone has experiences where someone dies prematurely, or where perhaps they suffer pain that just doesn't add up, like a migraine headache. Or we look at the world and see great injustice, and it's hard not to be a human and start to ask philosophical questions in the face of that—to start to wonder what's going on here. You know, why is this happening? Sometimes, why me? And as I've had a chance to teach a really wide variety of people over the years, I've found that they all—it's without exception—people feel these questions quite deeply inside them. How philosophy provides us space to face life's hard questions05:27: One of the beautiful things that philosophy can do is provide a space that kind of dignifies that part of us that is asking these questions and thinking about it. And so even when philosophy can't necessarily provide all the answers to the questions, there's something powerful just about being in that space where you're facing those questions. Why suffering is part of being human10:38: We, of course, are going to kind of combat suffering in some ways, shape, or form. But at the same time, it seems like we have to learn to face it and be open to it and to accept it and to see it as just a part of life rather than as a foreign invader of what it means to be human. And that when we do that, we open ourselves up to the adventure of being human. We had opened ourselves up to, you know, the possibilities of real growth and finding meaning. And a lot of people, when they come out the other side of difficult experiences, have a kind of weird sense that that was a very valuable and important thing, even something they're grateful for. Even though, at the same time, it's not that they wish that it happened, but they're grateful that it has become part of their story and their life. And so when we can do that, I think we're kind of living better lives overall.Show Links:Recommended Resources:William JamesPlato's ApologyAlexis de TocquevilleAleksandr SolzhenitsynSusan NeimanEpictetusStoicismBeing MortalJohn Stuart MillUtilitarianismWhen Breath Becomes AirFriedrich NietzscheEichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of EvilGuest Profile:Faculty Profile at Iowa State UniversityScottSamuelsonAuthor.comProfile on WikipediaGuest Work:Amazon Author PageRome as a Guide to the Good Life: A Philosophical Grand TourThe Deepest Human Life: An Introduction to Philosophy for EveryoneSeven Ways of Looking at Pointless Suffering: What Philosophy Can Tell Us About the Hardest Mystery of All Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In this episode, Brian Miller and Chad Hall share seven practical and relational ways to find new coaching clients. Their conversation blends mindset, strategy, and faith—reminding listeners that building a coaching practice is less about marketing gimmicks and more about authentic relationships, service, and attentiveness to where God is already at work. Whether you're just starting out or seeking to grow your client base, this episode offers actionable insights to help you move forward with confidence and purpose. Key Highlights Referrals from existing clients are the most natural and effective way to gain new clients—make it easy for them by describing who you want to work with. Referrals from non-clients (like community leaders or church contacts) can be equally valuable when you've built trust and credibility. Publishing—through blogs, podcasts, or ebooks—helps increase visibility but works best when it serves the client's needs, not your ego. Presenting at local events, workshops, or online gatherings positions you as a helpful expert and naturally draws interested clients. Prayerfulness grounds your efforts, helping you discern where God is opening doors and aligning your work with His purpose. Takeaways Serve before selling. The best marketing for coaching is genuine service—offering value and care to others. Ask directly. Many clients come simply because you invited them—don't assume people will approach you first. Stay active in your community. Participation builds trust, connection, and opportunities for meaningful engagement. Keep your posture humble and relational. Avoid transactional tactics like referral fees—focus on creating goodwill. Pray with expectation. Trust that God is already at work preparing opportunities; your role is to notice and join in.

SHOW NOTES: On this show…we're talking about searching for fulfillment and discovering true satisfaction. Have you ever felt like you were on a constant quest for “the next thing”—a new job, a new relationship, a new milestone—believing that once you achieved it, you'd finally feel complete? It's a familiar cycle: the anticipation, the accomplishment, and then the quiet realization that the longing is still there. What if the reason we keep searching isn't because we're broken, but because our hearts are tuned to look for something deeper than surface-level success? We live in a world that applauds striving and achievement. “What's next?” becomes the refrain, as though staying in motion ensures meaning. But that chase often leaves us restless. Sometimes it feels like chasing the horizon—you can see it, but the closer you get, the more it moves. In that gap between what we hoped to feel and what we actually feel, questions begin to bubble up: Why isn't this enough? What am I really searching for? That's where things get interesting. Many people turn to psychology, self-help, and personal development for answers—and those tools can be incredibly valuable. But what if part of the search is overlooked? For some, fulfillment is found not just in doing more or having more, but in cultivating something bigger—a relationship, a connection, a sense of being supported by more than ourselves. Some call that spirituality, some call it faith, some simply call it purpose. Wherever you land, today we're going to explore how satisfaction may come not only from what you achieve, but from who and what you invite into your search. When we talk about fulfillment, satisfaction, and purpose, the words can sound interchangeable, but they carry different weights. Fulfillment is that deeper sense of wholeness, like your life has substance and meaning beyond the day-to-day. Satisfaction is more about contentment with your circumstances—feeling that what you have is enough, at least for the moment. And purpose is the guiding direction that pulls you forward, often tied to your values, your passions, and how you contribute to the world. Together, these elements form the framework most of us are chasing, whether consciously or not. Psychologists often make a distinction between the search for meaning and the presence of meaning. The search is the active, restless phase—when you're hungry for clarity, digging for something that explains or validates your existence. The presence of meaning is the experience of already having it—living in alignment with your values and feeling that your life matters. Interestingly, research shows that people who feel they are actively searching tend to report lower well-being than those who feel they already have meaning. That doesn't mean the search is bad; it simply highlights the emotional toll of always chasing but never landing. Now here's where it gets tricky. Many of us stop at the surface—looking to career achievements, personal milestones, or material comforts as the ultimate answer. And while those things can absolutely add joy and motivation, they rarely deliver lasting satisfaction on their own. What often goes overlooked is the spiritual dimension: the idea that fulfillment is tied to something bigger than ourselves. For some, that “something bigger” is community, legacy, or contribution. For others, it's a relationship with God. Too often, spirituality is dismissed as something you have to give up your worldly joys to experience, when in reality, it can be the piece that helps everything else fall into place. Seven Ways to Bring More Meaning to Your Life. Chasing a Richer, Fuller Level of Happiness. CHALLENGE: Pause your constant search long enough to ask yourself what you're really longing for—beyond the next milestone or accomplishment. Take one small step this week, whether that's aligning with your values, connecting with someone who matters, or even opening the door to a conversation with God, to move from restless striving toward true satisfaction. I Know YOU Can Do It!

I came up with this podcast yesterday. I even wrote some of it in the car. And even though I touched on this topic in a podcast like 10 years ago, this lesson is ever better. Have you ever heard someone say something like, “It's even colder today than yesterday,” or “He even brought his cat to the party,” and thought… what's going on with that little word even? It's just four letters, but even does a lot of work in English. Native speakers use it all the time — in comparisons, for contrast, for emphasis — and in a few fixed phrases, too. So today, let's break it down.Join my Podcast Learner's Study Group here: https://learn.myhappyenglish.com/plsgVisit my website for over 3,000 free English lessons: https://www.myhappyenglish.com/My AI English Tutor is HERE
Seven Ways to Know You're in the Will of God • Sunday Service Website: www.PastorTodd.org To give: www.ToddCoconato.com/give Seven Ways to Know You're in the Will of God (And How You Know When You're Not) Let me tell you something up front: The will of God is not a mystery! CCLI: 21943673
