Bos BonesSeason 2Episode 6: Brian ThomasSeason 2 Finale! After long last this season comes to a close with one of Boston's funkiest and most in demand commercial players. I remember the first time I heard him play with the A-Beez at Wally's I was blown away! He's a co-leader of the BT/ALC Big Band and leads his small group the BT Allstars. He's played with touring acts G Love, Lettuce, Soulive, John Brown's Body, The Elovaters, Maceo Parker, Kevin Kinsella, Ryan Montbleau and around Boston with King's Highway, Dela & Steady Rock Easy, The A-Beez, B3 Kings, The Attractors, Jesse Dee, and Pressure Cooker.  Thanks for all of your support, I appreciate every listener! This project has been really rewarding but a lot of work. I have so many more trombonists I'd love to interview but I'm not ready to commit to a season 3 right now. Jesse Dee is a painter and a singer who takes influence from classic soul and R&B. The eldest fo 5 children raised in Arlington, MA, just outside Boston, Jesse was obsessed with oldies on the radio from a young age. He turned to theatre as a teen and started writing songs and learning guitar in high school. He attended Mass Art (Massachusetts College of Art and Design) while the intention of become a professional artist, but a stint in a touring act in college pointed him towards music and performance as a life calling. Jesse's released a couple of brilliant albums that encapsulate that incredible R&B and soul sound that he originally fell in love with. We talk about what drew him to that sound originally and what he enjoys about the writing of soul and R&B classics. Also, his dad was totally on the PBS show, This Old House, sooooo COME ON!

Above The Basement - Boston Music and Conversation

Having the title of Director Of Good Vibes would be a daunting title for any normally pessimistic human being, but James MacDonald is an optimist. Formerly with the Life Is Good Festival, James started Festival At The Farm in Canton, MA which will take place in September and features Amos Lee, Dawes, and former ATB guests Martin Sexton, Ali McGuirk and Jesse Dee as well as one of our upcoming guests Will Dailey among many others. The music in this episode is from some of these artists. James has worked in all areas of music including artist management, but now devotes all his time to this amazing festival. But the weekend is more than just music. It is a celebration that offers locally-sourced and inspired food vendors, a farmers market, non-profits, backyard games, a craft vendor marketplace and even includes music for the kids. We also discovered that James is a wonderful guy. Song List: Song 1: Long Time (Ali McGuirk - Slow Burn) Song 2: On My Mind, In My Heart (Jesse Dee - On My Mind, In My Heart) Song 3: When It Dies (Will Dailey - Golden Walker)

MANDOLIN ORANGE is Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz, a duo that makes hushed, intricate, timeless music from the North Carolina Triangle region, drawing on deep American musical traditions to tell moving 21st century stories. The band has toured with Kathleen Edwards, Abigail Washburn, and Rosanne Cash, who says of their music, "Love it - it has the plainspoken, mournful power of bluegrass and the elegance and intricacy of American classical, like Copland or Barber." They are make their Yep Roc debut with This Side of Jordan'. JESSE DEE is a singing, songwriting, guitar-playing soul man-a modern day trailblazer inspired by the old school. Based out of Boston, his warm and honest sound, his instantly memorable melodies and positive, slice-of-life lyrics (evoking the heyday of the Brill Building songwriters), Jesse expertly updates soul music for contemporary audiences. Dee's Alligator Records label debut is 'On My Mind / In My Heart'.
