This week talk about Her Blue Sky. We started clearing up some misconceptions that Rick had “13 years ago vs. 13-year-old” confusion and then we dove into the misconceptions about the guitar and why it was still weirdly brand new. From there, we talked about the main hook, the younger and older versions of Shinnosuke existing as separate people, with the younger one absolutely tearing into his older self later in the story, which led us into talking about growing up, losing your spark, and how life can jade you without fully killing the dream you started with. We also talked about the “eyeball star” birthmark idea, what it's supposed to mean, and why it initially threw us off and finally rounding it off with us swinging back to the music. One of us expected it to be way better, the other expected total garbage and was surprised it was handled tastefully. Overall, we did agree that it's a straightforward, linear story that avoids the “wait, what is happening?” problem, dodges the awkward story directions it could've taken, and lands on a message that hit us. Say what you need to say, don't let “good reasons” turn into lifelong regret, and recognize the quiet sacrifices people make.About the anime:Her Blue Sky follows Aoi, a high school bassist living in a quiet mountain town, who is itching to head to Tokyo and chase music, lives with her older sister Akane who once gave up her own dream of moving to Tokyo with her boyfriend Shinnosuke after their parents died so she could raise Aoi, and is focused on a life that was built on sacrifice and what-ifs but never regretting it or forsaking. Cider, star anise and pineapple roasted ham Cook time: 60 minutes Prep time: 10 minutes Serves: 8-10 3kg free range cured and smoked Christmas ham 2 x 330ml dry cider or apple juice 6 star anise 10 cloves 2 cups fresh pineapple, peeled, sliced and cubed 2 tbsp Dijion mustard 300 gm brown sugar Preheat a oven on fan-bake to160c. Slice the skin of the ham and score the fat in a diamond pattern. Combine the cider, star anise and sugar in a pot and bring to the boil, reduce until syrupy (bubbles will increase in size and slow) Dice the pineapple into thin dice and then stir into the cider mixture. Allow to cool. Place the ham into a roasting tray. Smear the Dijion over the ham, followed by 3 tbsp of the cider glaze. Use the cloves to prick through the pineapple to keep it in place. Place the ham in the middle of the oven oven for 1 hour depending on size, checking and baste until caramelized. Serve hot or at room temperature if transporting. Tony called us about Mariah after their pizza date in Oakland. Michael Keithley has been focusing on productivity since when paper planners were the only options. He became an early adopter of digital tools, and still has a technology graveyard of PDAs and other electronic productivity tools. For GTD, his first digital tool was Evernote, which he still likes for reference. Later he landed on OmniFocus, and has been using it from early on, to the most recent version. He explained that after moving to the US at age 23 in 1997, he initially worked at East Village Pizza before being fired after six months. Frank emphasized his pride in owning East Village Pizza and his determination to succeed.Frank shared his journey in the pizza industry, starting with a local pizzeria where he learned the craft and worked long hours while studying English as a second language and briefly computer science.
