Sylvester Stewart aka Sly Stone, was an innovator and a musical prodigy. He successfully merged rock and soul music and created a new sound and genre. War was the soundtrack to every urban neighborhood in the early to mid 1970s. Both Sly Stone and War gave voice to the unheard. On Conversations with A Bowl of Soul, we are celebrating June is Black Music Month with an interview with Beverly Lindsay Johnson. She is an Emmy Award winning filmmaker and documentarian of "Fatboy-The Billy Stewart Story". Billy Stewart was an R&B singer in the 1960's who had hits such as "Sitting in the Park, I Do Love You, which was done by the R&B band GQ and his crossover hit Summertime, which was a million selling single for him and so many other hits that are in his catalogue. We talk about his life and how much he has contributed to Rhythm and Blues. He was an innovator, multitalented and he was loved by his family and friends. I hope you enjoy this interview. On this week's show, we spend quality time time with new records from Julien Baker & TORRES, Tune-Yards & Esther Rose, spin fresh tracks from Superchunk, Ethel Cain & Low Cut Connie, and listen to some choice words for the current administration from Bruce Springsteen. all this & much, much less! Debts No Honest Man Can Pay is a podcast that thinks it's a radio show...because it used to be one. The show started in 2003 at WHFR-FM (Dearborn, MI), moved to WGWG-FM (Boiling Springs, NC) in 2006 & Plaza Midwood Community Radio (Charlotte, NC) in 2012, with a brief pit-stop at WLFM-FM (Appleton, WI) in 2004. It phoenixed into a podcast in 2020, thanks to the fine and fabulously furious folks at NRM Streamcast.

Today on another encore edition of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to entertainer Bobby Brooks, whose story about his celebrity parent is like none other. Of all the episodes we have done over the past four years, Bobby's is totally unique and left us incredulous. You see, Bobby had no idea his father was the late, great singer Jackie Wilson until he was well on his way to his own recording career. And it was because of his voice, his on stage moves and his mannerisms that friends of his father's made the connection because Bobby, essentially, WAS Jackie on stage but had no clue himself. Bobby tells us about his roots in South Carolina, the physical and financial difficulties he experienced as a child as well as his love of music from a very young age. We discuss his time in the Navy which led him to Hawaii where he performed with a very young, pre celebrity Bruno Mars in the family band, later being discovered by Paul Revere (of Paul Revere & the Raiders fame) and his connections to The Four Tops, The Temptations, Billy Davis and other music greats. So who and how and where did Bobby find out he was the son of Mr. Soul, Mr. Excitement Jackie Wilson? Welp, it's too good to share here. So take a listen to this upcoming episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast where all will be revealed. You won't believe it. Everyone has a story. Bobby's is remarkable.
