#782 - Kodac Harrison Kodac Harrison Interview and Performances are featured on The Paul Leslie Hour. Are you here? Ahh, there's a lot of you that are here. And what are you doing? You're listening to The Paul Leslie Hour, of course. We have something extra special for you today. This is undoubtedly the most in-depth interview Paul has ever done. He welcomed singer-songwriter - poet, spoken word artist and recording artist Kodac Harrison to come and give his entire story. The whole story… and to play music. Kodac Harrison was described by Creative Loafing newspaper of Savannah, Georgia in this way: “Imagine a Southern Tom Waits or a rural Leonard Cohen. That's as close as we can come to a nut-shell description of the music of Kodac Harrison, a genuinely gifted artist and one of the southeast's musical treasures.” And to that we say, well stated! Kodac Harrison was interviewed in great detail and also performed songs and spoken word poetry. This was recorded at Jordan Digital Studios and then broadcast over the radio in a 4-part special. Today, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, we present the entirety of what went down that evening all in one place. By the way, you can be a supporter of spoken word and patron of independent media by going to www.thepaulleslie.com/support We thank all of you who help keep this show going. As broadcast on March 9, 2022 with zero room for authoritarianism and it's accompanying lies and war. Tonight we show solidarity in what little way we can here on the air far away by highlighting the amazing musicians and artists of Ukraine. Attacked several weeks ago by Russia, we can only show our incredible admiration for the resistance ongoing that will continue, and also those who have spoken out against this atrocious and needless violence in Russia and Belorus, two of whom we highlight on the show tonight. If you feel helpless you are not. Donate what you can to help alleviate some of the suffering by donating to the Ukrainian Red Cross or another humanitarian organization in good stead. Good Day Listeners! We have a deep episode for you today. Starting political, we get Paul's rundown of current Brexit affairs and UK Parliament. The bulk of the episode covers market disruption and disruptive innovation as a business concept and marketing strategy. Why Paul thinks this is such an important key to growth in business. If businesses do not disrupt they are more likely to fail. We cover industry examples of disruptive innovation, notably the automobile. We also have a great example of how a missed disruptive opportunity led to the decline of a once industry-leading company (Kodac). Really enjoyed this episode, and took the leap of going for it with no notes! Let the flow commence. To round-up at the end, hear a little about Punk History, and Paul's time turning up to punk gigs dressed as a mod. Always follow your own way, stick to your own values and don't let 'the norm' dictate your image or presence. Kodac Harrison joins us in the studio. We describe Kodac as "quietly legendary" in Atlanta when we introduce him on the podcast. He is a singer/songwriter/performer who was influenced by soul music at a young age, and is also now an accomplished poet and spoken word artist. We discuss his recent performance at the King Center's MLK Jr Mural Dedication where he was asked to perform his song "Where Dreams Become Real"; growing up in the Atlanta area, but living in many different states and returning to a changed city; Poetry and Songwriting; Recording with Brendan O'Brian and performing with many accomplished musicians including Jennifer Nettles and John Mayer; Having Jimmy Carter as a big fan, and much more...
