We were live on location for today's conversation at the Camping for Hunger bus to kick off the 14th year of the annual food drive to benefit Front Royal/Warren County CCAP. Joining me to kick off the event was Andrew Shearer, President of Royal Broadcasting along with Larry Elliott and Joanne Koszyk from Front Royal/Warren County CCAP. We talked about the history of CCAP as well as the future of the organization and learned about the impact having a new space will have on their ability to serve the community. Andrew talked about how this food drive came to existence and the importance of helping those in our community who are less fortunate than most of us. The bus will be open for donations - nonperishable & monetary - 24 hours a day from noon on Monday, November 14 through Saturday morning, November 19, 2021. As Camping for Hunger 2019 continues, we were broadcasting The Valley Today from the Camping for Hunger bus parked at Royal Plaza Shopping Center. All week, Valley Today guests will speak about the under-served populations in our community and the ways we can help improve their quality of life through donations, services & support. Today we had a conversation with Larry Elliott, President of Front Royal/Warren County CCAP. His organization is the recipient of all the monetary & food donations we collect during Camping for Hunger week. We talked about their organization, the people they serve and the impact food donations of this scale have on our community. We also talked with local student, Aadon Atwood about his contribution to CCAP. Aiden tends a garden in the spring/summer and donates half the proceeds from his produce stand to the organization.

We talked about the "trickle down" effect that having access to no-cost food & supplies has for families struggling to pay for their other basic needs such as heat & housing. This year's final numbers: 45,820 pounds of food along with $8000.57 in cash/check/grocery gift card donations was collected.
