You Still Have Time. So Stop Holding Back.https://lifemotivationdaily.blogspot.com/
"I'm not a real business owner yet." "I'm just starting out." "I don't have enough experience." I hear these types of phrases constantly from creative entrepreneurs - even ones who've been successfully running businesses for years. This single limiting belief is costing you money, opportunities, and confidence, but the good news is it's completely fixable. As we reach our 100th podcast episode, here's the mindset shift that changes everything about how you see yourself and your creative business. This belief shows up in how you price your services, communicate your value, and the growth opportunities you don't pursue because you assume you're not ready. If you've ever downplayed your expertise or waited for permission to call yourself a legitimate business owner, this episode will help you step fully into your professional identity and unlock the sustainable business growth you've been working towards. Key Moments: [02:29] Celebrating 100 episodes and the collaborative nature of this podcast [04:47] The one belief sabotaging creative businesses more than anything else [06:01] How this self-doubt manifests - even in successful creative entrepreneurs [09:03] The uncomfortable but powerful exercise to shift this belief [11:36] The truth about becoming "legitimate" as a business owner Notable Quotes: "The creative entrepreneurs who thrive aren't necessarily the most experienced or the most qualified. They're the ones who recognise their own value and own it confidently." "There's no magic moment when you suddenly become 'legitimate.' There's no external validation that makes you a 'real' business owner. It's a decision you make about how you see yourself and your work." Beginning with a meditation on noticing where we hold back, morphing into a couple powerful solo back-and-forth inquiries, and morphing ultimately into a profound group popcorn-style session, this week's episode dives into themes like wanting to be special and craving attention. In Tom's usual style of deeper exploration, though, it also eventually uncovers the extremely intense fear of emotional and even physical pain. It traces that initial prompt of holding back to its real fears, and questions them all, leaving no stone unturned and not holding back in this episode of Love Is The Power, ironically titled: Holding Back.
An example of a failure in building a backyard hockey rink has strong parallels to a verse in Proverbs that warns that the beginning of strife is like letting out water...so we need to abandon the quarrel before it happens. This causes us to humbly examine our emotional reactions to conflict and to walk in the Spirit so He can rule our spirit to have strong and holy relationships. Strap into the time machine and set the dial for July 1986, a time when Top Gun ruled the box office, synthesizers ruled the airwaves, and Kenny Loggins ruled… something. In this episode, Milt and Dave wade knee-deep through the Billboard Top 10 from a summer that gave us everything from Loggins' “Danger Zone” (still trying to make aviator sunglasses cool) to Simply Red's “Holding Back the Years” (still holding back… the energy). Expect the usual: unsolicited nostalgia, suspiciously convenient personal stories, and yes, Milt somehow manages to rhyme “Spinal Tap” with “Trader Joe's nap.” Don't ask. Highlights include: A passionate defense of Janet Jackson's “Nasty,” because someone had to. A soul-searching breakdown of Billy Ocean's “There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry),” which succeeds. It does indeed break down. Two grown men pretending to know the difference between Howard Jones and Howard Johnson. And the moment Peter Gabriel's “Sledgehammer” rolls in and flattens the competition like, well, a sledgehammer. Plus: Johnny-themed trivia (because there are apparently way more songs about guys named Johnny than anyone needed), some light shade thrown at the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and a very necessary refreshing of the chart — where Dave and Milt save the Top 10 from itself by swapping in some ‘80s underdogs. Topics 00:00 - Banter: Naps, snacks, and fake bands (aka our wheelhouse) 10:47 - Listener mail, podcast gripes, and people who claim to like our show 20:18 - Blues-rock? In this economy? We know loads of you will identify as perfectionists - it's one of the most common things our clients tell us about themselves, usually with a mix of pride and frustration. Most perfectionists know they probably need to ease up a bit, but knowing you should dial it back and actually feeling ready to let go are completely different things. The reality is that perfectionism has got you where you are, so the thought of lowering your standards feels risky. But what if the very thing that helped you climb the ladder is now holding you back from the impact you really want? We explore how perfectionism shows up in leadership roles, why it stops serving you at senior levels, and most importantly - practical strategies to shift from perfectionism to progress without dropping your standards.Key points from this episodeWhy perfectionism feels useful early in your career but becomes a barrier in leadership rolesHow perfectionist habits create overwork, slow decision-making, and micromanagement tendenciesThe hidden costs of perfectionism - missing strategic work, limiting career progression, and demotivating your teamPractical strategies including time limits, delegating outcomes not processes, and creating early feedback loopsWhy the "one-touch rule" matters when reviewing delegated work00:00 Introduction - How perfectionism holds back leadership01:00 Why perfectionism feels useful and gets rewarded early in careers03:00 The frustration when "perfect" work doesn't hit the mark for others06:00 How perfectionism shows up in leadership - overwork and exhaustion08:00 The impact on pace, agility, and team delegation10:00 Why perfectionist leaders struggle with delegation and become bottlenecks13:00 How perfectionism limits capacity for strategic work and career progression16:00 Strategies for loosening the perfectionist grip18:00 The mindset shift: risk of imperfection vs risk of perfectionism20:00 Practical tip 1: Set time limits and stick to them religiously22:00 Practical tip 2: Delegate the outcome, not the process24:00 Practical tip 3: Create early feedback loops instead of waiting for the "ta-da" moment26:00 The one-touch rule for reviewing delegated work28:00 Closing thoughts and coaching support optionsUseful LinksJoin The Catalyst Career Club for 50k+ LeadersConnect with Pam on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/pamelalangan/ Connect with Jacqui on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jacqui-jagger/ Access the download with 20 strategies to overcome perfectionism as a leader (without lowering your standards) Interested in working with us? This week on Nacho Fitness Coach, Caleigh and Sara dive into one of the most misunderstood concepts in nutrition: the difference between eating healthy and eating for weight loss. We talk about how your personality—whether you're more of a "cook" or a "baker"—can shape your approach to fitness and nutrition, and why that actually matters when you're setting goals. We also get into journaling (of both the food and feelings variety), Gusher confessionals, banana girth (this again?), and how sometimes the smallest tweaks make the biggest difference. Plus, we cover the moment Caleigh realized ChatGPT might actually be her best assistant… and possibly her therapist. Republicans run the show in Washington, D.C., these days, but the GOP remains on the margins in Rhode Island. The state hasn't elected a Republican governor since 2006 and the party holds just 14 of 113 seats in the General Assembly. Back in 2022, Ashley Kalus got almost 39 percent of the vote as the GOP alternative to Democrat Dan McKee. But Kalus faced a handicap since she was a recent transplant to Rhode Island, and her share of the vote was similar to what a generic candidate might receive. Four years later, Kalus is more ensconced in the state and she continues to use social media posts to criticize the status quo. So is Kalus gearing up for another run for governor? What does she make of the Trump administration? And what is Kalus' prescription for increasing GOP representation in Rhode Island? This week on Political Roundtable, I'm going in depth with former Republican candidate for governor Ashley Kalus.

Whether we get there is another question...Thanks to dbt, GoodData, and Ellie.ai for sponsoring this podcast.dbt: https://www.getdbt.comGoodData: https://www.gooddata.comEllie.ai: https://www.ellie.ai

The rest of the episode is talking about the Tommy Lee / Britney Furlan drama and me doing a really good Annie impression - so to recap: we answer one question on our advice podcast, and then talk about internet drama from 2 weeks ago, and then I do an impression of my friend. DON'T ACT LIKE YOU DON'T LUV IT SLUTS!

It's interconnection.Live from the PowerUp Stage at RE+ Northeast, Samantha Weaver of the Coalition for Community Solar Access dives into why so many promising clean energy projects never make it past the planning phase. Spoiler: it's not because the technology isn't ready—it's because the system isn't.With jaw-dropping examples (a 100-project backlog that would take 50 years to process?!), Samantha breaks down how sluggish utility review processes, outdated cost models, and data black holes are bringing progress to a crawl. This is an eye-opening conversation that shows how the right policies—and partnerships—can turn gridlock into greenlight.Expect to learn:
