Breaking the Glass Slipper: Women in science fiction, fantasy, and horror
Zombies first shambled onto our cinema screens in the 1932 film White Zombie staring Bela Lugosi. Early incarnations involved voodoo reanimation and lacked the whole brain-eating aspect. (There's a really interesting article by Carnegie Mellon University that charts the early history of the zombie). But let us jump to what modern audiences consider a zombie. Send us a textLauren plays host to Leigh Radford this episode. They talk about femgore, zombies and which item frightened Leigh that she found in a flat more than a second hand zombie husband. The episode gets very raw as Leigh reveals her lack of science background and the inspiration behind the book leading to a raw and honest heart to heart between her and LaurenThey obviously discuss obligatory One Yellow Eye spoilers too.
You know when a book comes along and just grabs you so you don't want to put it down? One Yellow Eye is one of those books. It's a thriller, a love story, it's also really witty oh and almost forgot, it does feature a zombie at its pulsing (just about) heart too. If you're concerned zombies are not for you (unless you're Natalie who wrote her uni dissertation about zombie movies) then do not fear - it's all about love, actually. Debut author Leigh shares how real life events inspired this tale, and how supportive the writing community has been. Long may that continue!Find Leigh's book recommendations at bestsellerspodcast.com

Kelley talks with Leigh Radford, author of "AlterKnits," "One Skein," and "AlterKnits Felt."
Leigh Radford didn't set out to be a knitwear designer. She's been knitting since age 13, but it wasn't until a layoff from a graphic design job that she found her bliss and realized she could make a living off of her knitting by coupling the crafty skills she had learned as a child with her professional design experience. Instead of pounding the pavement in search of another 9-to-5 gig, she got a part-time job at a yarn shop and soon discovered her fabulous talent for creative pattern design. Now, at age 45, Leigh lives in Portland, Oregon, where she happily creates wonderful knitting patterns and enjoys success as a knitting book author.
