Sosa Henkoma is not just a survivor but a living testament to resilience, transformation, and the urgent need for systemic change. Raised in South East London, Sosa fled an abusive home environment as a child, seeking safety but instead falling into the grip of something even more insidious. At just 11 years old, he was groomed into the world of county lines drug trafficking a brutal system that exploits vulnerable children and erases their innocence in silence. It wasn't until much later that he was finally seen, not as a statistic or a lost cause, but as a survivor of grooming and child trafficking deserving of support, healing, and justice. Since then, Sosa has turned his pain into power, using his lived experience to advocate for change. Today, he dedicates his life to educating young people, supporting survivors, and working alongside law enforcement and institutions to shift the narrative from criminalization to compassion, punishment to prevention. His voice is a warning and a beacon reminding us that every child deserves to be protected, believed, and given the chance to heal.Chapters: 0:00 - Introduction 1:07 - What's a truth about yourself that you only recently accepted?15:04 - Sosa speaks about the origins story, getting started in gang life. 54:29 - Can the past come back and haunt Sosa? 59:45 - Abandonment and do the triggers come back?1:05:45 - The message to the black community and the way to create abundance→ CONTACT SOSA HENKOMA ON SOCIAL MEDIA ← INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/sosa_est/?hl=enTIKTOK: https://www.tiktok.com/@sosa.estX/TWITTER: https://x.com/sosa_est7th

Sunday School presents JIM JANCO - wilderness mix for SSIV

For the upcoming fourth edition of Sunday School, a ritual gathering of sonic blasphemy and rave-fuelled devotion, London-based musician Jim Janco steps into the pulpit with A Wilderness Mix—a cryptic sermon through weird, experimental and underground sounds. Janco, the mind behind People Drift—a roving techno night grounded in South East London's freeform spirit—has carved out a reputation for pushing dance music into stranger dimensions. His background weaves through the raw edges of DIY punk, the pulse of '90s techno, and the deep throb of sound system culture—a combination that informs every part of this mix. In this Wilderness Mix for SSIV, Janco charts a path through live instrumentation and synthetic tension. It's both personal and expansive, bridging old favourites with new discoveries. Janco's Wilderness Mix fully captures the Sunday School ethos: dark, devotional, and defiantly off-grid, an invitation to sink beneath the flicker of strobe and sacrilege. Sunday School IV: The Hand of Satan will take place from 19 to 20 April at New River Studios in London. It will feature Beau Wanzer, Container, Nic Krog, Brood x Cycles (Alex Tucker & Nik Void), Ireen Amnes, Severin Black, and many more.

How often do you hide the truth of your female body and neglect her cyclical rhythm (and the magic that comes with it)? When was the last time you completely let go, dropped your bundle, and surrendered to the need to rest—unexpectedly, out of the blue—because your body was asking for it in that very moment? And when did you last fully surrender to your desires, with a big smile in your heart, without judging yourself for it?In this episode, I invite you to join me on a walk along the Ravensbourne River in South East London. Let's sit together on a bench as I share the story of my recent experience on day 25 of my menstrual cycle, which unexpectedly transformed into a day 1 experience. In that shift, I turned shock and frustration into profound surrender, unveiling golden nuggets of wisdom along the way (which I can't wait to share with YOU). It felt like waves of homecoming, and I want you to taste that, too.P.S.: I'm so excited to be back with a solo episode! I've missed connecting directly with you, my wonderful, softly rebellious community. I can't wait to hear your takeaways from this short episode and learn where you are on your Soft Rebellion journey, and how she's showing up in your life right now. This episode is so wildly poetic and so bloody real. Life on the Fretboard with Michael Watts

Rob Luft is a rising star of the European jazz guitar scene whose intricate and lyrical playing melds textures from around the world into a striking musical voice. Rob is an extraordinarily creative person and a bit of a chameleon, home with everything from soulful standards and improvised fusion madness to Balkan time signatures and the joyful lines of Congolese soukous. He has even composed and performed pieces for electric guitar with a full orchestra, which is very cool and unusual, to borrow a phrase from Martin Simpson. We talk about Rob's formative years - growing up in the rich cultural mix of South East London and his early exposure to mind-blowing music by the greats of the jazz scene. The first live gig he ever saw pretty much sealed the deal...you'll find out why. We discuss the blank canvas that is the electric guitar and the use of effects in jazz - which leads to a poetic diatribe from Rob on the subject of loud footswitches and his love for ancient Boss pedals. Rob shares the challenges of playing in different contexts, from a perfectly timed 45-minute free jazz set to high-volume open-air festival gigs where all your fancy chord voicings disappear into the wind. We discuss the importance of playing the lyric of the song and living a life untainted by the seductive power of the pentatonic blues scale. Rob speaks eloquently on the subject of ear training and sight reading. It could save your life someday! I really enjoyed this conversation. Rob is thoughtful, quick and (thanks to years working at a radio station) has impeccable mic technique! I also captured Rob's impromptu performance of the Johnny Green classic "Body and Soul." In this episode, Danielle Radojcin visits the Sid Motion Gallery in South East London to talk to the British artist Phoebe Cummings, known for her extraordinary sculptures made from unfired clay. Phoebe's work challenges traditional views of ceramics, focusing on the beauty of impermanence as her pieces dissolve over time. They evoke themes of nature, transience, and the fragile relationship between humanity and the natural world. Phoebe was born in Staffordshire, the heart of the British ceramics industry. She studied Three-Dimensional Design at the University of Brighton before completing an MA in Ceramics & Glass at the Royal College of Art in London. A lack of funds to pay for a kiln forced her to begin working with unfired  clay, and over the years, Phoebe has carved a unique path in the art world, becoming known for her ephemeral sculptures crafted entirely from the material. Her work is a reflection of nature's transient beauty and the passing of time, often exploring themes of growth, decay, and the fragile relationship between humanity and the natural world. Phoebe's pieces, which dissolve or disintegrate over time, challenge the traditional expectations of ceramics as a durable, permanent medium, and are more of a performance than static art piece, to be cherished as a memory rather displayed forever in a museum. In 2011, she won the prestigious British Ceramics Biennial Award, and her installations have been exhibited in notable institutions like the Victoria and Albert Museum and York Art Gallery.Join Danielle and Phoebe as they explore Phoebe's creative journey, the influence of nature in her art, and her upcoming exhibition at the Sid Motion Gallery curated by Tom Cole, where her work will be shown alongside that of Robert Mapplethorpe and Magdalena Abakanowicz.https://www.phoebecummings.com/https://sidmotiongallery.co.uk/

We have a new venue! We are re-opening Thamesview Golf Course in Thamesmead, South East London for the return of the PARK. The site has been closed to the public for over a decade and we're excited to be reactivating this amazing space with art, culture and exploration. Everyone can apply. We encourage applications from artists at all stages of their creative career. No fees. Winter Sculpture Park remains free to view, free to show. This year our open call welcomes all forms of sculpture, public art, participatory art, land art and architecture. We are also inviting applications for workshops and creative activities.DEADLINE: Sunday 29th September 2024. Thamesview Golf Centre has been out of use for over a decade, leaving the attached green spaces fenced off and inaccessible to the public. She's also a public speaker, cultural facilitator, curator, choreographer, songwriter, performer and mentor. And it's this all-embracing, boundary-blurring approach to creativity and artmaking that forms the basis of this episode.“For those of us who didn't grow up going to museums and galleries, the art around us is what people are wearing. For us, the museum is the postcard on your fridge, it's the t-shirt you're wearing, it's the sneakers you're wearing”.Originally from Thamesmead in South East London – the iconic brutalist housing estate where A Clockwork Orange was famously filmed – and now based in LA, Shantell is known for her signature, stream-of-consciousness line drawings, murals and ‘who are you?' slogan. Her kaleidoscopic CV has seen her collaborate with brands including Max Mara, The North Face, Tiffany and Co., as well as institutions MIT, The Whitney and Boston Ballet (where she also choreographed) and establish her own podcast series What's the Point? She even has her own open source font ‘Shantell Sans'! And that, if you can believe it, that's just for starters!Having navigated her way through the murky waters of the ‘art' world and got to a place where she now has the creative freedom to explore, in this episode she generously and candidly shares her experiences, learnings and insights picked up along the way. From why every artist needs a cocktail of skills, to what feedback to ignore, Shantell shines a light on the practical, proactive mindset needed to thrive within an opaque system.Follow Shantell @shantell_martin EPISODE INSIGHTSWhat you don't get told about the artists who've “made it” (and the hustling involved)Why you need to trust in your own visionThe value of peer support, mentorship, patronage and anyone fighting your cornerWhy art can exist everywhere, beyond the museum walls and traditional spacesThoughts on the episode? One of the most iconic musicals of all time, Hello, Dolly!, has returned to the London Palladium, with Jerry Herman's unforgettable score including Put On Your Sunday Clothes, Before the Parade Passes By, It Only Takes a Moment and Hello, Dolly! It's a huge, no-expense-spared production, with a cast of 40, and the legendary Imelda Staunton as the witty and charming matchmaker Dolly Levi. Jenna Russell plays the millineress Irene Molloy. Jenna is well known for her TV roles in Call The Midwife and Eastenders, and many theatre roles, including Guys and Dolls, Merrily We Roll Along, and her Olivier award-winning turn as Dot in Sunday In The Park With George. Nuala McGovern speaks to Jenna about the revival of Hello, Dolly! and the show's message to new audiences. In February 2021, a coup returned Myanmar to military rule, overthrowing the democratically elected government. Under the regime, violence against civilians has escalated, with thousands jailed, tortured and killed – although the numbers are believed be much higher. At least three million people have been displaced. Just two weeks ago, a UN Report outlined the gendered impact of the coup: It found that military forces have committed widespread forms of sexual violence. However, despite the coup's devastating impact, women and girls are taking on key roles within the resistance movement. Also this month, there have been seperate news reports that women are being conscripted into the military. Nuala discusses the situation with Tin Htar Swe, the former head of The BBC's Burmese Service. Nine-year-old Ella Adoo-Kissi-Deborah was the first person in the world to have air pollution listed as a cause of death. She lived near the South Circular Road in Lewisham, South East London and died of a fatal asthma attack in 2013. Her mother, Rosamund, who has been campaigning since her daughters death, is now seeking is seeking an official apology from the government as her high court claim against them heads to trial. She explains why she wants an official apology from the government. Nuala also speaks to Sophie Howe who is the former First Generation Commissioner for Wales where she advised the government on policy around transport and climate change - she now does this for other countries. SAnnie Garthwaite's second novel, The King's Mother, tells the story of historical figure Cecily Neville, mother of Edward IV and Richard III. Annie believes Cecily's role in the Wars of the Roses has been hugely underestimated by historians and her novel places her firmly at the heart of the action. Essie Fox has written five historical novels and her most recent, The Fascination, is set in the world of Victorian theatres and travelling fairs. They join Nuala to discuss the challenge of writing the stories of women who have been overlooked by the history books.Presented by Nuala McGovern Producer: Louise Corley

When I first started planning season 1 of this podcast, that I thought would be a mini series, back in 2018, I wrote a list of dream guests- bucket list, beauty industry stalwarts whose brains I wanted to pick. Jo Malone was, of course, on that list, and on her most recent trip to Australia last month, we made it happen.Jo's story is unlike any other, and while we all know her name, I don't believe as many people know her story as well as they probably should. Jo grew up in South East London and following a very, very early introduction to the beauty industry, she discovered her sense of smell was a bit of a superpower. She built her own brand, opened her first store in 1994 and sold that brand to Estée Lauder in 1999 while staying on as Creative Director. In 2003, Jo was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer, and although she beat it, she completely lost her superpower- her sense of smell. She chose to exit the brand in 2006 and, exactly one month into a five year non compete, her sense of smell returned. Following what she describes as probably the hardest five years of her life, she launched Jo Loves in 2011- her second global fragrance brand and one she describes as bringing the best parts of herself to the world. This was so, so special for me, I'm so grateful to have had this time to physically sit down with Jo- no one tells her story like she does and I hope you love hearing it as much as I did. In this conversation, Jo shares why she has her father's work as an artist to thank for introducing the Jo Loves brand to a new generation, why we can thank a woman named Doris Hilderbaker for Jo's love of beauty, and what happens both physically and mentally when you walk away from a brand with your name on it.
