On this episode of Why Music Matters with Jeff Miers, I catch up with Goo Goo Dolls bassist and Music Is Art founder Robby Takac. As one of the most successful musicals to have emerged from Buffalo over the past 30 years, Robby has a unique perspective on the ever-changing landscape of the music industry. And as founder of the annual Music is Art Festival, which celebrates its 21st anniversary on September 9, he has relentlessly pursued a vision of music as an agent of community building here in his hometown. He's also just a really cool, passionate, humble, and funny guy.

Music is Art and so are Beefy Slaps Despite technology trying to stop us like a thunder storm at Raymond James stadium, your boys stood steadfast in the rain to bring it to your ears, delivered like a beefy strike across the chest from an Austrian powerhouse with more heat in his palm than an active volcano. Fun meta fact as such; we had to record this over two different days. Can you guess where we changed from one day to another? Your prize for doing so is one less year in the brig. For real though apologies for any lapses in listening quality, but it got largely smoothed out for the second half at least. In this episode, Alex tries to defend what is widely considered one of the worst endings in TV history and proves he's a one trick pony by talking about wrestling too much. Henry loses it over his least favourite t-shirt design, presents his TED Talk on a musical sub genre of a sub genre of a sub genre, and uses the word aesthetic too much. And the boys lament the state of trying to purchase your first house wayyyy too much. Back at it this Monday Morning here on Morning Bull and the four of us were back together again, with Chris joining us after her trip to central Florida! We were also visited on the phone by local comic great Matt Bergman to talk about an event taking place to benefit Music Is Art; ZOOM calls and bloopers came up with a lot in the news lately. Finally, we had Judd Nelson, Breakfast Club and St. Elmos Fire star called us to talk what hes been up to recently. Robs Did You Know took place, as did the TrendZone featuring some great sound from around the world! Judd Nelson from the Breakfast Club, St Elmos Fire and many other 'coming of age' classics, called us in the middle of the show to talk about his latest work on a very disturbing LMN movie. He also took some of our questions regarding his memories of working on the classics we mentioned, and many others; and he told us some cool behind the scene anecdotes about his career.  There were several times and instances that came up today regarding ZOOM bloopers and mistakes that we've either witnessed or heard about due to their going viral. We had plent of sound of recent examples and even had a ZOOM sin committed on our own show...try to guess who it was! Matt Bergman is a local comedian gone big time who has some friendly ties to our show! He told us about an event hes part of happening tonight on MusicIsArt.org at 7P to benefit MIA. He also had some laughs with us and commiserated with Rob about the current, struggling state of live comedy.  We talked with Chris throughout the show about her trip to Florida and the differences between NYS and Florida State. She told us about the weather, her different experiences and ways she was able to enjoy her vacation. There were some startling comparisons and differences between what we know here and what she found Florida to be like last week.  Bull tried to get an appointment for a vaccine, and has been for weeks, but today we revealed audio of the disasterous phone call/call back he received over the weekend. It was pretty funny, but in reality, its quite a revelation of the process and situation were in.  ONLY AVAILABLE on the Morning Bull Podcast! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all Good Morning Bull on this last day of 'regular programming' for us on this Friday Decmber 18th, 2020! For our last day before we kick off the 'BOMB' – Best of Morning Bull, we had so much holiday themed stuff like interviews and topics, we could barely fit it all in! Vic Carucci stopped by for his last visit before Christmas to talk Bills @ Broncos with us! And, its Ugly Christmas Sweater Day! Robs Did You Know took place, as did the TrendZone featuring some great sound from around the world! Robby Takac is the bassist and backing/co-lead vocalist for Buffalo's own Goo Goo Dolls and happens to be a great friend of the show and obviously the region! He gave us a ring today to talk about his virtual show taking place tonight in benefit for his Music Is Art foundation. We gave you info on how to get involved and see the show tonight as well as asked Robby what he has been up to and how the 'Dolls' are doing. From 'the Office', very famously portraying Meredith, Kate Flannery called the show to promote her new Christmas album with actress and comedienne Jane Lynch. They were in Buffalo together just last year to perform and sing and she reminisced on that a bit with us during her visit. She also talked some 'Office' with us too. Lead singer and rocker from Twister Sister, Dee Snider joins us every so often because he is so available, and we really enjoy getting him on when we can. He talked his latest Christmas single released with Lzzy Hale, that he wrote about 30 years ago, that he originally sold to Celine Dion which went on to be included in the greatest selling Christmas album of all time. He told us some behind the scenes stories of the song and even some Christmas topics as well! As mentioned, and as he does every Friday pre-Bills game, Vic Carucci from the Buffalo News called us up to discuss Bills at Broncos tomorrow, Saturday afternoon at 430p! He broke down the injury report, told us what he thinks about Denver and their ability to put up a fight and, obviously, talked about the outlook for the team as they head into the new year and closer to the playoffs. Former MB producer and 97 Rock jock Darren Mckee, now very successful sportscaster out in Denver called in to remenisce and ALSO, talk some Buffalo Bills heading to his town! Darren was a lot of fun and really enjoyed catching up with us and obviously, reveling in the fact that the Bills have Josh Allen and the Broncos, do not. We had a chance to talk Christmas spirit and that included a great discussion about ugly Christmas sweaters and where, when and how we wear them! We had our own sweaters on to compete for the ugliest and we asked you to participate and let us know too! ONLY AVAILABLE on the Morning Bull Podcast!
