This week my good friend, Michelle Robinson comes on to talk about the end of genocide for Palestinians - how closely related the issues across the oceans are to Black, Indigenous and People of Colour here in Canada. We talk about how law enforcement uses stacking charges to not only ensure higher rates of convictions, plea deals, but how it is also used to discredit the humans experiencing this "phenomenon". Sadly we also discussed the resurgence of violence and resistance to 2s+lgbtq rights across Turtle Island. Thank you so much Michelle, I am honoured by your friendship and your openness. Always so much love. Find her podcast, Native Calgarian, here: https://www.nativecalgarian.com/podcast
This week, Michelle Robinson stops by and we talk politics, truth and reconciliation, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and 2 Spirit. We talk briefly about our individual roles walking along side the Calgary Police Service, as they undergo, what we hope is lasting, deep change. I am reminded as to the importance of creating safe places for people. How some humans have been abused so deeply by the system and others, it is absolutely necessary to be seen and heard. Not just when our voices are quiet and inoffensive. Hearing and seeing racialized and marginalized humans - understanding the expression of anger, as a valve for a never ending pressure cooker. Thank you Michelle, I appreciate you so much.

This week Tara chatted with Michelle from Native Calgarian about birth alerts, the social and economic impacts of systemic racism in the medical and child “welfare” systems in Canada. We had several technical issues on Tara's end and didn't get to speak as long as we would have liked. If this episode is re-traumatizing for any listeners, please engage with Michelle's book club, TRC.ca, www.mmiwg-ffada.ca or APTN for resources.
If you think racism is a problem in the US, wait until you learn about what's going on up in Canada. It turns out, the police are all white supremacists who go around murdering indigenous people all day! Who knew? Sit back and listen to the very wise and in no way bat sh*t crazy Red Thunderwoman tell you all about it. Cros and Aaaandeeee join us to discuss some important topics: Patrick Michael reviews the UFC, Stuttering John doesn't want to talk about Chrissie Mayr but somehow finds a way, Opie doesn't like Howard pretending he might not resign, Vic Henley bombs posthumously, and Vic says goodbye instead of hullo. We've seen significant turbulence in the last week in the markets and most of us have had to make changes to our day to day life and could be now facing concerns over how we pay our bills. We chat about how this could affect your own finances, what we've been doing, and how we could have set up our society to be more resilient to these kinds of shocks. We record about a week before posting, so some of the information is behind in terms of closures and travel. This is a great primer for our conversation with Michelle from the Native Calgarian podcast next week. We're all in this together and there's no better time than a pandemic to check your privilege.
