On this weeks episode, I review Marvel's newest movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This newest movie is kicking off Marvel's phase five and introducing their newest villain, Kang the Conquerer. I had to bring on two of the biggest Marvel fans I know, Diabeto and Ariel. They also brought two throwback movies for me to watch for the first time, Crazy Rich Asians, and Clueless. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Directed by Peyton Reed. Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne, along with Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, explore the Quantum Realm, where they interact with strange creatures and embark on an adventure that goes beyond the limits of what they thought was possible.Crazy Rich Asians (2018) Directed by Jon Chu. This contemporary romantic comedy, based on a global bestseller, follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu to Singapore to meet her boyfriend's family.Clueless (1995) Directed by Amy Heckling. Asians, let’s inhale and exhale. Time for a heart-to-heart talk on some deep underlying issues within our community. This week, Diego (@mistercagara) and I continue our “Crazy Rich Asians” discussion by talking about some of the controversies surrounding the movie such as Henry Golding’s casting as a biracial person, the movie not doing so well in China, and Awkwafina’s “Blaccent”. We also share our personal experiences with not feeling “Asian enough” and how we really feel about some specifically toxic Filipino traits within the community. And of course, we make note of and celebrate the strides in Asian representation in mainstream media since Crazy Rich Asians and how this movie impacted our lives. Yep, we’re discussing the romantic-comedy “Crazy Rich Asians” (2018) starring our divas of the week: Michelle Yeoh and Constance Wu in our Two Part Crazy Rich Asians episodes. In today’s episode, part 1, Diego and I share our favorite scenes of the movie including that Mahjong scene, airplane proposal, and of course the iconic wedding sequence that all of us are too poor to ever experience in this lifetime. Diego also shares some stories about growing up in Singapore and how accurate the portrayal of Singapore really was in the movie. Plus, we share the experience of what it was like seeing Crazy Rich Asians for the first time on the big screen and our thoughts on Asian representation in media & our Asian identities.
