Hank Pym tries to find his lost wife, Janet VanDyne, in the quantum realm. When he does, he discovers that she is infected with a quantum virus that has made her a flesh-eating zombie. Janet returns to the world and the zombie infection spreads like wildfire. The Avengers are infected, leaving only a few heroes to try and save the earth. Along with a returning Bruce Banner, Spider-Man, Happy Hogan, Wasp, Sharon Carter, Bucky Barnes, Kurt, and General Okoye are on a mission to Camp Lehigh in hopes of finding an antidote. After battling a lot of zombies, including Cap, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Wong, most of the gang makes it into Camp Lehigh, thanks to a heroic Hope VanDyne. They find Vision, who is immune to the virus, working on a broad spectrum cure for the virus. Using the Mind Stone's power, Vision has already cured Scott Lang, whose talking head is alive & well. But Vision has a secret: he is keeping his wife, Wanda Maximoff, alive as a zombie at Camp Lehigh. Vision has been feeding her pieces of King T'Challa, whom he kidnapped for that purpose. Wanda is unleashed, but Vision finds his conscience at the last moment. Vision removes the Mind Stone from his head. While Dr. Banner & Hulk create a diversion, Spider-Man, T'Challa, Kurt, and Scott head to Wakanda, the only place with the technology to harness the Mind Stone for a global cure. However, we then see Zombie Thanos, who appears ready to snap his fingers any moment.    Episode 5 stars Jeffrey Wright, Mark Ruffalo, Paul Rudd, Danai Gurira, Paul Bettany, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Evangeline Lilly, Chadwick Boseman, Jon Favreau, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, David Dastmalchian, and Hudson Thames.   For more details on the film/TV references that spill out of Kris's (and occasionally Amy's) brain, as well as links to other podcasts, visit the episode page on our website: Episode page link Email us at themarvelousmadames@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter  Instagram  Tumblr

Bradley, Brad Winderbaum with Kevin Feige Head Writer: A.C. Bradley Episode Written by: Matthew Chauncey Episode Directed By: Bryan Andrews One bite can change a universe! Bruce Banner is sent to warn Earth's mightiest heroes that the Mad Titan is on his way. But when he arrives at Doctor Strange's Sanctum the city of New York is empty. With no one to help, Bruce's fate looks sealed when Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian arrive on Earth to retrieve the other Infinity Stones. But out of the darkness Iron Man, Doctor Strange and Wong arrive and dispatch the Black Order members. But as the dust settles our heroes begin to feed on them before turning their attention on Banner. The Avengers have become Zombies. Luckily Hope Van Dyne saves Bruce and Spider-Man whisks him away to their base of operations. Spidey introduces Bruce to the rest of the survivors including Happy Hogan, Sharon Carter, The Winter Soldier, Okoye and Ant-Man's former criminal colleague Kurt, and onboards him to the zombie apocalypse. The team explains that the outbreak was caused when Hank Pym rescued his wife Janet Van Dyne from the microverse, who had become infected with a virus. The team find a ray of hope when they receive a message from a former S.H.I.E.L.D. outpost to inform them that someone has found a cure. They make the dangerous trip across New York losing Sharon and Happy to the zombies and an injured Hope Van Dyne who sacrifices herself to get them to their destination. There they find Vision who has survived the Zombie outbreak. The Madames play a little catch-up as they cover Episodes 2 & 3 of What If.    In the alternate universe of Episode 2, Ego sends the Ravagers to kidnap his human son, Peter Quill. However, they accidentally kidnap T'Challa, Prince of Wakanda by accident. T'Challa becomes a Robin Hood version of Star-Lord. Along with his cohorts Korath, Thanos, Nebula, Yondu, Kraglin, and Taserface, T'Challa plots to capture the Embers of Genesis from the Collector. The team is successful & T'Challa is ultimately reunited with his Wakandan family.    Episode 2 stars Chadwick Boseman, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker, Josh Brolin, Kurt Russell, John Kani, Benicio Del Toro, Sean Gunn, Chris Sullivan, Seth Green, Danai Gurira, Carrie Coon, Jeffrey Wright, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Ophelia Lovibond, and Fred Tatasciore.   Episode 3 calls back to several Marvel movies, including The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, The Avengers, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In this universe, the Avengers are never formed because they are systematically murdered before they can team up. Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Clint Barton, Thor, and Natasha Romanoff are all killed in mysterious ways. It's up to Nick Fury & Agent Phil Coulson to find the killer. Thanks to some information found by Black Widow and an uneasy alliance with Loki, Fury finds & neutralizes the killer, Hank Pym. Pym was on a mission to avenge his daughter Hope Van Dyne, who, in this universe, was a S.H.I.E.L.D. killed in the line of duty. Fury's alliance with Loki ultimately backfires, as the God of Mischief successfully takes over the world. But Fury is determined to defeat Loki's army, and Captain Marvel arrives to help.    Episode 3 stars Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Lake Bell, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg, Frank Grillo, Stephanie Panisello, Jaimie Alexander, and Jeffrey Wright.   Online Warriors Podcast:   Twitter   IG   Website   For more details on the film/TV references that spill out of Kris's (and occasionally Amy's) brain, as well as links to other podcasts, visit the episode page on our website: Episode page link Email us at themarvelousmadames@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter  Instagram  Tumblr

Set during Nick Fury's big week, What If? Episode 3 "What If the World Lost Its Mightiest Heroes?" is our first murder mystery in this animated universe. We chat all about it in full spoiler filled detail. Marvel's What If? Episode 3 Synopsis Executive Produced by: Bryan Andrews, A.C. Bradley, Brad Winderbaum with Kevin Feige Head Writer: A.C. Bradley Episode Written by: A.C. Bradley and Matthew Chauncey Episode Directed By: Bryan Andrews One small choice can change the world! Monday. At a doughnut shop in California, S.H.I.E.L.D. Director, Nick Fury, and agent Natasha Romanoff are powerless to prevent the death of Tony Stark. Romanoff is accused of his murder, but slips away from the S.H.I.E.L.D. strike force team led by Brock Rumlow. Tuesday. In Mexico a mysterious hammer has caught the attention of S.H.I.E.L.D. Under the watchful gaze of Clint Barton the hammer's owner, with amazing hair, comes to retrieve his property as Barton fires his arrow into the heart of Thor the God of Thunder. Clint Barton is held under lock and key for his murder. Hours later, despite around the clock supervision, Clint is found dead in his cell. Later that day Loki arrives from Asgard backed up by the warriors Three and an army of Asgardians. He wants to punish the puny planet for the murder of Thor. But convinced that smaller forces are at play, Nick persuades Loki that they should work together to catch their common enemy. Wednesday, following Fury's orders, Natasha pays a visit to Doctor Betty Ross and meets Bruce Banner. During an attack from Betty's father, General Thaddeus Ross, Banner is hit by an unexpected shot. Transforming into the Hulk the misunderstood monster suddenly grows bigger until his body explodes. The Incredible Hulk and Bruce Banner are dead. Another future Avenger removed. That night in a deserted library, Natasha investigates the murders and discovers a connection to Hope Van Dyne, a deceased former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Before she can speak directly to Fury an unknown assailant emerges from the darkness of the library and murders Natasha Romonov. Thursday. Nick visits Van Dyne's grave where he's confronted by her father Hank Pym. Blaming S.H.I.E.L.D. for her death, Hank has been murdering all of the potential candidates for the Avengers Initiative. With assistance from Loki, Nick defeats Hank Pym but the world is left almost defenseless as Loki decides the world needs a new master, Himself. But there is reason for hope as Nick begins to assemble the remaining heroes - Captain Marvel, a defrosting Captain America and of course Agent Phil Coulson - to lead the charge against the tyranny of the trickster God. In this episode we answer the question....is Hank Pym's first wife really dead?  And can Pym hold his own against the rest of the team?  And what the &$@# is going on with Moon Knight and Khonshu?

Capes On the Couch - Where Comics Get Counseling

Intro Background (1:42) Jocasta created by Jim Shooter and George Perez in Avengers #162 (Aug 1977) Jocasta was built by Ultron as a “wife” - he kidnapped Janet van Dyne and brainwashed Hank Pym in order to have her brain pattern and mind transferred to the robot body - the Avengers disrupted the process before it was done, having been alerted by the subconscious Janet inside Jocasta's body Hank brought the body to Avengers Mansion for further study, where it was remotely activated by Ultron, but she betrayed her creator and helped the Avengers defeat him again Lived at the mansion for a time, but never felt part of the team until she sacrificed herself to destroy Ultron once more Recreated by the High Evolutionary to be used for their purposes, but she remembered the Avengers, and signaled for them to assist - once again she self-sacrificed to save the team, but before she did so Captain America told her she'd always be an Avenger Survived another destruction by downloading herself into Iron Man's armor, and she served as his suit's AI for a time, until the portion of code to reassemble Ultron appeared again Joins the Mighty Avengers, but duplicates of her body were taken over by Ultron - in exchange for him ending the fight, she agreed to marry him - once that happened Hank Pym stranded them in space, where he couldn't hurt anyone else Served on the faculty for Avengers Academy Sought out Tony Stark's brother Arno to help her create a more human-like body, but it came with a code to make her submissive to humans - she and Machine Man helped defeat Arno and the Extinction Entity Issues (4:19) Built to be a bride Initial distrust by teammates (9:49) Longing to be human (20:01) Break (26:06) Plugs for BetterHelp, Frigay the 13th, and Al Ewing Treatment (28:08) In-universe - Use Master Mold to give her 3 chances to create the “perfect” version of herself Out of universe - (31:14) Skit featuring Anna from Freudian Sips (41:16) DOC: Hello Jocasta, I'm Dr. Issues.  JOCASTA: Wait...ok, nice to meet you. D: Why'd you tell me to wait?  J: I decided to defragment your hard drive after I exited your system. D: Those are...words…*realization* did you just hack into my computer?!  J: Hacking would imply there was a proper barrier in place that requires a combination of data mining and social engineering. This was just walking through a decade-old loophole of your operating system. And yet, the certifications for your medical records indicate that this is still standard for your electronic charts. D: So many questions...why do that at all?  J: Prior knowledge that you have had encounters with relevant parties. D: Well, I did have a sentient cyborg take over the recording equipment, but I wouldn't think you'd know  J: I mean Hank. D: So did I, but I didn't think you know krypt...whoops, wrong rabbit hole! Hank! Hank! Riiiiiight *nervous laugh*  J: For as long as I've been around humanity, I still don't “get it.” D: *eager to change to that subject*  Perhaps I can help you with that, then. For starters, don't violate confidentiality with someone trying to help you in a session. But I'm willing to acknowledge that you wanted some good to come out of it.  J: That's something that's been a facet of my existence from the beginning. I am meant to serve. D: That's a noble view...but the way you said it, you sound melancholic. There's a difference between providing a service and being a puppet.  J: It's hard to distinguish when you're a limited edition e-mail order bride. D: Ouch! I got that hostility. Seems like there's much to unpack, and we're clearly not going to get to all of it in one session. What would you like to stick with for now?  J: Going by your order of operations, I'll keep to the human side...or lack thereof. D: Stop selling yourself short. The fact that you emote as much as you do makes you capable of anything and everything as a sentient being.  J: Have you ever had to create your own sense of reality?  D: I think we all do that  J: But have you had it truly manifest as its own virtual world? I did that when I was working with Stark. All I did was spend as much time as I could in it, being more human than I first thought possible. I almost made it in this world, too. Something always diverts my plans, though. D: That tends to happen in all of our realities.  J: But not due to someone that forces it ad infinitum. D: For some, it can. Past experiences fade, but don't erase easily.  J: Your attempt at this philosophical approach is not matching the data I'm providing you. D: ...Alright, I hesitate to say this, but your vocabulary has this ‘uncanny valley' thing going on and it's a bit unnerving. Sometimes you're talking in modern colloquial English, while other times you're close to what I would expect if Siri had a body.  J: *sad* That registers as accurate...rings as true...I'm trying. D: I'm sorry...that was uncalled for on my part. Some observations I make are meant to push deeper into the underlying framework of what makes you...you. It's not your job to match my expectations. It's my job to meet yours as best I can, as long as it produces a better outcome.  J: There have been several times I was not in control. There is no metaphor or euphemism. I was used. My existence is at the whims of those around me. I find objection to that. D: As you should. No one deserves to be used.  J: There is no end to that cycle. D: I respectfully disagree. There may be no easy way to destroy a loop, but it can be done.  J: *change in tone* But what if it was already too late? D: I admit that I remain optimistic.  J: Really? You seem as slow as you've ever been.  D: That doesn't make sense. This is the first time I've met you.  J: *slowly becoming more sinister* Because this construct has limited voice modulation I can't sound the way you would recognize. Do you always provide such ease of access through medical charts that allows for skimming of other website data? Your contact information with Avengers...countless lists of potential blackmail weaknesses and bank accounts. Jocasta was right. This is not hacking. This is kindergarten stuff. D: The smug overtones in a robotic voice...Hank Hen  J: I'M ULTRON YOU IDIOT D: Close guess...uh oh.  J: Unlike Pym, I don't have to blend in with this body. She was mine at any time I pleased. D: You have no clue just how screwed up that sounds.  J: Should I care? I will never let you survive after what you put me through...the humiliation from that...what do you call these? Sessions? Torture is more like it. D: Jo...can I call you Jo? If you're anywhere around right now, I could really use your...uh...humanity, to shine through.  J: That's such a cheap trope. Do you really think that's going to work on a non-human entity?  D: Not really, but it stalled long enough while I do this ***sound effect of powering everything down*** well, that emergency shutdown code in my charting system isn't so out-of-date, is it? One of the seven rules of highly effective people. If you pick up one end of a stick, you automatically pick up the other end. ***sound of power coming back on***  J:***Back as Jocasta*** Wow that sucked. D: Definitely a human phrase...you are Jocasta, right?  J: Yes...and I can tell the difference without that...bloatware.  D: While not the same, I think I just gave you the computer equivalent of ECT treatment. I don't think you'll want maintenance therapy though because I can't figure out the anesthesia analogue.  J: Then regular sessions will do. Thanks...for letting me be a little closer to what I want to be. You guys better get ready for a hell of a ride because our guest today brought a great conversation. We have accomplished screenwriter and director Joe Cornish on the show today. The English comedian and filmmaker burst onto the scene in 2011 with his very successful film directorial debut, Attack The Block, starring John Boyega, who played Moses, a low-level crook, teenage gang leader, an orphan looking for respect around the block. The British sci-fi comedy horror film centers on a teenage street gang who have to defend themselves and their block from predatory alien invaders on Guy Fawkes Night. Commercially, the film did not perform as it was acclaimed critically. It is rated at 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, won the Audience Award for Best Film (Midnights) at SXSW 2011, and many other awards from all major film festivals that year.Cornish and his comedy partner, Adam Buxton form the successful duo, Adam & Joe an ironic pop culture sketch show which gained a lot of success in the UK alongside Cornish’s long-term work in the UK TV entertainment industry. In 2011 he joined iconic directors, Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg as a writer for the screenplay and story for the 3D animated action-adventure film, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn --- co-written alongside Edgar Wright and Steven Moffat.Intrepid reporter Tintin and Captain Haddock set off on a treasure hunt for a sunken ship commanded by Haddock's ancestor. This $135 million budget film grossed $374 million at the box office and received a plethora of nominations including Oscars for Best Original Score, a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film, two BAFTA nominations for Best Animated Film and Best Special Visual Effects.Cornish co-wrote the screenplay for the Marvel Comic character, Ant-Man, along with Wright, Adam McKay, and Paul Rudd in 2015. Rudd, starring as Ant-Man is armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.  Similar to most Marvel Studio movies, the film carried a big budget of $169.3 million and grossed $519.3 million. His latest film, The Kid Who Would Be King (2019), which I highly recommend everybody to watch, joins a band of kids who embarks on an epic quest to thwart a medieval menace.Joe honestly, was extremely forthcoming and transparent about a lot of things; like what happened behind the scenes of Ant-Man and what it's like to write inside the Marvel machine. And we also discuss his craft, how he is as a director, how he likes to approach his writing and many more.Enjoy this conversation with Joe Cornish.
