Jonathan V. Last, editor of The Bulwark, stops by the show to talk to Lovett about his "Grand Unified Theory of Trumpism" — that Trump's opponent "will always choose surrender over discomfort." Together, they try to make sense of America's rotting political culture, breaking down when and where it all went wrong, and debate what it'll take for the nation to heal from this moment, be it a reckoning of virtue, kindness, or democratic will. Jonathan also walks Lovett through the echoes of Goebbels recently displayed by Secretary Marco Rubio and Stephen Miller and why he believes the desire for a figure like Trump may have always been present within the Republican base.Hate listening to ads? Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan of the New York Times join Donny to discuss their bestselling book Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump. They reveal how they landed remarkable access to sources still serving inside the administration, and walk through two of the book's most stunning scenes: the bizarre Oval Office moment when Trump had an aide read out a list ranking him among history's most powerful figures (alongside Napoleon, Hitler, and Genghis Khan), and the extraordinary Situation Room meeting where Netanyahu personally pitched Trump on an Iran regime-change operation — only for the CIA director to call the plan "farcical" the next day. They dig into how a gut-driven decision led to the U.S. bombing Iran, why Trump's inner circle now trusts his instincts over expert warnings, the administration's evolving stance on AI regulation, and rapid-fire one-line verdicts on JD Vance, Scott Bessent, Howard Lutnick, Susie Wiles, Pete Hegseth, and Stephen Miller.

They also revisit Senator Ron Johnson's methodical breakdown of pandemic era studies that were buried at the time, and a sharp Stephen Miller clip crediting President Trump for pushing back on COVID orthodoxy from the very beginning. There is a fair amount of dark humor about calls for a real accounting this time around, plus some genuine frustration about how many of the same players are already resurfacing elsewhere. Mary and Andrew begin this week by addressing the Department of Justice dropping the subpoenas they ordered against New York Times journalists who reported on security concerns regarding President Trump's new Qatari-government-gifted Air Force One jet, noting that the attempt to subpoena the writers speaks to a failed effort of “chilling and intimidating” other reporters. But still, there were even more subpoenas: last week, the DOJ filed subpoenas for 14 major law firms as part of an ongoing lawsuit between the American Bar Association (ABA) and the Executive Office of the President, which Mary and Andrew believe is an effort by the government to try and “get the law firms to pressure the ABA to drop this lawsuit.” They also touch on an update to journalist Katie Phang's lawsuit against the federal government over Epstein files redactions and address Jack Smith's criminal referral by House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan. Plus, two immigration-related cases: a judge's decision to throw out a DOJ lawsuit challenging Minnesota immigration laws and an appeal court's decision to reverse a lower court decision releasing Pro-Palestinian activist Mohsen Mahdawi. That's it: commonsense election integrity that every American understands. Yet Democrats are united against it, and a handful of Republicans keep blocking it. Leadership says there's “not enough time” and “not enough votes.” Lee's response? Object to the recess and force a roll-call vote. The accountability trail is the story. The FBI investigation that would normally follow a fatal shooting by federal officers was reportedly halted. The federal government withheld its evidence for seven months, turning it over to Hennepin County only in the days before Todd Blanche's confirmation hearing. Roughly 75 percent of the Minneapolis US Attorney's office resigned during this period, and more than half the prosecutions brought against protesters have since collapsed. Hawk offers his own reading of the Pretti footage, noting Pretti was legally carrying, and argues the sequence suggests an accidental discharge during the disarm. He stresses these remain uncharged allegations. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty now has the federal evidence, and Hawk expects charging decisions within six to eight months. The comedian and host of the wildly popular YouTube talk show, 'The Adam Friedland Show', sat down with Mehdi in New York City for a chaotic yet vulnerable conversation about Israel, U.S. politics, and some of Adam's most viral interviews. But first, Mehdi needed to argue about the World Cup.    Even though they come from different backgrounds, Mehdi and Adam bond over their shared profession of interviewing defensive politicians. One of Adam's most viral interviews, with Bronx Congressman Ritchie "AIPAC Guy" Torres, was of particular interest to Mehdi. "You got very emotional there. Did he make you like that? Did the situation in Gaza make you like that?" Mehdi asks.  And that's just the tip of the iceberg. The two also discuss: Adam's family history in South Africa. How Stephen Miller might have turned into a fascist (he and Adam went to school together). Trump's influence on the World Cup.  Adam's experience working in an Israeli ambulance service. Ronald Reagan said it best: One of the greatest sources of America's greatness are the people drawn to the country from every corner of the globe, who become American and keep the country young, vital, and modern. But Trump and Stephen Miller are sticking to their absolutist deportation plan without regard to history or its political cost. Meanwhile, we are learning in real time that our trillion-dollar weapons systems are (sometimes) no match for Iran's drones—and that the regime can't resist the opportunity to humiliate another U.S. president. Trump tried to steal the limelight and the valor of Spain at the World Cup, even as more troops died overseas; Stephen Miller regularly encourages ICE to be violent while Pete Hegseth pushes soldiers to be macho bullies. Last week, all eyes were on Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche's confirmation hearing to lead the Justice Department. Mary and Andrew begin with their takeaways: from Blanche's “evasive, hyper-technical non-responses” to why his close relationship with Donald Trump is problematic, noting a moment where Blanche referred to himself as “his lawyer” and then quickly corrected himself — which Mary called a Freudian slip. They then turn to Trump's Thursday night address, where he claimed that U.S. elections have been compromised for years. Separating fact from fiction, the co-hosts look at how Trump's undermining of public confidence may affect the upcoming midterms. Mary and Andrew also highlight reporting from the New York Times indicating a slew of cases brought by ICE against protesters and immigrants are failing the sniff test in court. Plus, an update on former Columbia graduate student Mahmoud Khalil, who recently filed a lawsuit alleging the government and others were part of an effort to suppress criticism of Israel from pro-Palestinian demonstrators. Further Reading:  This is the New York Times' reporting on ICE cases falling apart: They Were Charged With Assaulting ICE Agents. The Cases Are Crumbling. And here is their reporting on ICE related shootings: At Least 23 People Have Been Shot at by Federal Immigration Agents Since Last Year Andrew and Mary also wanted to note this new Compendium from Just Security: “Zero Evidence”: How Judges and Grand Juries Have Rejected the Trump Administration Efforts to Investigate and Prosecute Sign up for MS NOW Premium on Apple Podcasts to listen to this show and other MS podcasts without ads. Every political debate eventually comes down to one question: "Says who?" Todd explains why Christians must ground every argument in God's authority—not history, culture, or public opinion. Segment 1 • Why Todd says Stephen Miller's argument ultimately falls short. • The one question every political debate must answer. • Why Christians can't ultimately appeal to history, culture, or tradition. Segment 2 • What sin Todd says is fueling so much of today's cultural conflict. • Who actually decides what's "good," "normal," and "beautiful"? • Why our battle isn't ultimately against people—it's against rebellion toward God. Segment 3 • The one phrase that explains nearly every rebellion in Scripture. • What Noah, Babel, Pharaoh, and the book of Judges all have in common. • What happens when a society rejects God's authority. Segment 4 • Why Christian parents shouldn't make themselves the ultimate authority. • Charles Spurgeon on the only authority that matters. • How "Thus saith the Lord" should shape every area of a Christian's life. ___ Thanks for listening! Today's Headlines: Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested in Miami by US Marshals at the UK's request, facing 59 total charges including rape, sex trafficking, assault, and charges related to indecent images of a child — their attorney says they're innocent, they'll fight extradition. On the corruption beat, Trump is now selling hedge funds early access to his Truth Social posts for $100,000 a month through a service called Truth API, which is institutionalized insider trading dressed up as a subscription service — and he owns 41% of the company selling it, so that's clean. Meanwhile, Trump's primetime election fraud document dump turned out to contain zero evidence of Chinese meddling or a deep state coverup, but did confirm that Russia was pushing the exact same Biden corruption narratives Trump was pushing in 2020 — which is not the smoking gun he was looking for. In other news, The State Department hosted a global left-wing terrorism summit led by Marco Rubio and Stephen Miller, with 60+ countries invited on short notice to discuss a threat that far-right extremists — responsible for over 75% of domestic terrorism deaths since 2001 — were not mentioned at, not even once. In war news, four US service members were killed after Iran struck Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan with ballistic missiles and drones, bringing the total American death toll to 17 since the war started, and Trump's response was to order the military to "open the gates of hell" on Iran. After the mystery explosive diarrhea culprit was discovered, Taylor Farms recalled all of its central Mexico iceberg lettuce across 27 states, with Walmart, Sysco, and Taco Bell pulling products, and the same lettuce supplies Chipotle, McDonald's, Costco, and Trader Joe's, so America's salad situation is complicated. And finally, Spain won the World Cup defeating Argentina 1-0 in overtime, Trump attended, got booed multiple times, and photobombed Spain's trophy photos by overstaying his welcome on stage. . Republican candidate Mark Lynch joins host Tara Servatius to discuss his bid for the U.S. Senate in South Carolina, positioning himself as a business outsider fighting against establishment politics. Servatius then addresses the tragic loss of three U.S. service members in the Middle East, sharply criticizing the administration's Memorandum of Understanding with Iran and accusing China of aiding in targeting attacks against American forces. Turning to ideological critique, she highlights a speech by White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller that attributes leftist political motives to envy and hostility toward traditional values. Finally, Servatius turns her focus internationally to warn that new political leadership in the United Kingdom under Andy Burnham will further accelerate civil liberty restrictions, digital identity mandates, and internet surveillance toward totalitarian control.

On the July 20, 2026 edition of The Tara Show, host Tara Servatius breaks down key national security debates and political commentary. She examines Secretary of State Marco Rubio's forceful rejection of International Criminal Court (ICC) jurisdiction, contrasting his defense of U.S. sovereignty with progressive efforts to enforce international warrants against foreign leaders and domestic officials. Servatius also offers a sharp critique of foreign policy decisions under the Trump administration, specifically pointing to JD Vance's Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Iran, which she argues enabled the regime to rearm and directly led to recent U.S. service member casualties in the Middle East. After sharing a reflective quote from Senator Lindsey Graham on the tendency of political figures to overestimate their competition, the broadcast addresses domestic enforcement measures, highlighting Stephen Miller's announcement of a Trump administration plan to strip undocumented immigrants of access to the American banking system as a catalyst for self-deportation.

His practical warning is about conspiracy charges, using a Texas ICE protest case where one participant reportedly received 30 years, and how one person's actions can be attributed to an entire group. He lays out the real timeline, the eight to ten weeks between Election Day and January when the new Congress is sworn in, notes Trump has lost roughly 15 election cases this year including before his own appointees, and asks where Democratic leadership is. ***This episode is not edited as it was recorded directly after Donald Trump's speech***Donald Trump went on primetime television to tell the country that America's elections are compromised. A few hours earlier, Stephen Miller gave a much quieter speech at the State Department that was far more alarming. While Trump ranted about voter fraud, voting machines, China, mail ballots and election “security,” Miller laid out a federal counterterrorism strategy aimed directly at the political left.In this episode, Robin breaks down both speeches, what NSPM-7 actually does, and why the administration's plan for the 2026 midterms goes far beyond campaign messaging. The language is already in place: disrupt, identify, defund, debank, arrest and prosecute.Trump's address got the live blogs, cable coverage and instant fact-checks. He repeated unsupported claims about noncitizen voters, Chinese interference, stolen voter data and compromised election machines. He also announced plans to involve federal agencies in state election systems, remove people from voter rolls and investigate officials tied to the alleged fraud. But while everyone was watching Trump, Stephen Miller was explaining what comes next.Speaking to foreign security officials at a State Department ministerial, Miller described the political left as a terrorism threat and defended NSPM-7, a national security directive that gives federal agencies a broad mandate to target organizations, activists and financial networks. And the scope does not stop with people accused of violence. It can reach donors, organizers, lawyers, bail funds, nonprofits and anyone the administration decides is supporting the wrong movement. The speech also went somewhere even darker. Miller attacked civil liberties, complained about juries refusing to convict people accused of assaulting ICE agents, and told the room that leftists do not look “normal” because their appearance reflects what is supposedly inside them. That language is not random. Robin traces its historical roots and explains why authoritarian movements so often describe political opponents as diseased, deformed, dangerous or visibly different. Once the enemy is defined by who they are instead of what they have done, there is no way to behave your way out of the category.Trump provides the spectacle. Miller provides the machinery and framework for what's to come. Together, the two speeches point toward a broader strategy for the 2026 midterms:• Destroy confidence in election results before voting begins• Push federal agencies deeper into state election systems• Purge voter rolls in the name of election security• Threaten media outlets that refuse to cooperate• Treat protest networks and organizers as terrorism infrastructure• Intimidate donors, lawyers, nonprofits and bail funds• Use financial pressure and debanking without waiting for criminal convictions• Export the framework through international intelligence sharingThis episode separates what the administration has actually done from what it has merely claimed. The franework is real. The evidence being used to justify it often is not.Trump's speech was the distraction. Stephen Miller's speech was the blueprint. The loud speech told America what to fear. The quiet speech explained what the government plans to do about it.Topics include Donald Trump, Stephen Miller, NSPM-7, the 2026 midterm elections, voter purges, election security, left-wing terrorism, debanking, civil liberties, ICE protests, jury trials, political repression, authoritarianism, fascism, voter fraud claims, media license threats and federal intervention in state elections.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/we-saw-the-devil-unfiltered-political-analysis--4433638/support.Website: http://www.wesawthedevil.comPatreon: http://www.patreon.com/wesawthedevilRobin's Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/robin_wstdTwitter: http://www.twitter.com/WeSawtheDevilInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/wesawthedevilpodcast.TikTok: tiktok.com/@wesawthedevilpolitics

They break down what Jared calls one of the most consequential and openly authoritarian speeches an American president has ever given, delivered by a man who can barely read the Stephen Miller script in front of him. The speech claimed China compromised over 200 million voter profiles, that a deep state hid it all from Trump, that Barack Obama personally handled burn bags full of evidence, and that 280,000 noncitizens are on the voter rolls, with WhiteHouse.gov supposedly holding the proof. Nick actually went and checked. The site was down, and when it loaded there was not a single document. The pair walk through why none of this is really about 2020, and everything about building a permission structure to rig the 2026 midterms and beyond, how intelligence agencies purged of anyone competent now feed Trump whatever he wants to hear, and why the echoes of Iraq War cherry-picking should worry everyone. It closes on the media trap where even networks that refused to air the speech will now repeat its claims for months. What we're watching: Nick is working through A History of Violence, the Cronenberg film written by friend of the pod Josh Olson, and enjoying the Viggo Mortensen slow-burn. Jared put on the newish Superman and found it a case study in how wall-to-wall James Gunn quipping drains every scene of tension, though Lois Lane comes out looking great.

Then come the numbers. A Center for Strategic and International Studies report covering 1994 through 2020 found that right-wing extremists carried out the large majority of domestic terrorist attacks and plots in the United States, roughly two-thirds in 2019 and over 90 percent in early 2020, and were responsible for 335 of 357 domestic terror deaths across that period, about 93 percent. None of that appears in Miller's speech. Hawk's argument is that "political terrorist" here functions as a label for anyone who disagrees with Donald Trump, not a description of violence. He points to Republicans controlling the House, Senate, White House, and Supreme Court as evidence against the radical-left-domination framing, and asks basic questions about an organization no one can locate. The Trump administration desperately wants the public to just tune out the shooting death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by ICE agents in Houston. But this roaming army of masked, armed men chasing people down and killing them is tied directly into the administration's criminality across the board. Trump may pardon Stephen Miller, but he should be on trial in state court in 2029. Meanwhile, McConnell's choice to not convict on impeachment means Donald Trump is his legacy. Plus: Republicans showed with the housing bill that they could find a backbone, Platner is not who he said he was, Dems should talk about race more, some way too early Magnolia Bowl talk, Vance/Trump 2028, and which potential Democratic nominees would Stuart work for in a heartbeat?  Stuart Stevens joins Tim Miller.
