Donald Trump's greatest danger has never been his intelligence or strategy — it's his emptiness. Easily distracted, endlessly flattered, and driven by grievance rather than principle, Trump has become the ideal vehicle for forces far more disciplined and extreme than he is. This video breaks down how Trump's chaos creates an opening for figures like Stephen Miller, the architect of the administration's ethnonationalist agenda, and Elon Musk, whose oligarchic power and reactionary politics increasingly shape public life. Together, ideology and concentrated wealth exploit a hollow presidency to dismantle democratic norms, international law, and the postwar world order. Independent media has never been more important. How long will the United States claim control over Venezuela? “Only time will tell,” President Donald Trump told the New York Times on Wednesday — potentially years. U.S. troops invaded the country over the weekend, kidnapping President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. Maduro and Flores pleaded not guilty to narco-terrorism charges in New York on Monday. They now sit in a Brooklyn jail, awaiting trial. Trump and administration officials have justified ousting Maduro by claiming it was consistent with the Monroe Doctrine — a doctrine that through the years “has been expanded into something like a universal police warrant that allows the United States to intervene,” says historian Greg Grandin. “Trump has redefined the Monroe Doctrine to mean, the Monroe is as a weapon that the United States can use in order to protect its interests wherever it wants, whenever it wants. So it's a substitute for liberal international law.” This week on the Intercept Briefing, host Jessica Washington discusses the Trump administration's attack on Venezuela, its larger aims of controlling the Western Hemisphere, and bringing Latin America to heel with Grandin, the author of numerous books, including most recently "America, América: A New History of the New World."“There's an affiliation between the Monroe Doctrine and American First nationalism,” says Grandin. “They imagine United States sovereignty expanding well beyond its borders within its hemisphere.” The administration's vision is outlined in the National Security Strategy the White House released in December. “This is a strategy that announces that the Monroe Doctrine is back in the especially bellicose form. But what's also interesting, if you read further, the United States is not withdrawing from any of those old regions. … It's reserving the right to treat the rest of the world like it treats Latin America.” Trump and administration officials — from Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a longtime advocate for Venezuelan and Cuban regime change, to White House chief of staff Stephen Miller — have threatened to expand military operations to Colombia, Mexico, and other Latin American countries that don't fall in line. Maureen Tkacik, investigations editor at The American Prospect, who recently wrote a profile of Rubio headlined “The Narco-Terrorist Elite,” also joins the conversation to discuss the former Florida senator's history and ambitions.Tkacik points out that Rubio, a driving force behind Maduro's ouster, represents a wing of the Republican Party fixated on battling nominally left leaders in the region. That mentality is at odds with a key faction of Trump's base, who say they're against foreign intervention because they think the government should keep its attention on U.S. soil.Trump's attack on Venezuela and fixation on so-called “narco-terrorists,” Tkacik says, “represent an attempt to reconcile these two poles — the Steve Bannon guys and the Marco Rubio neocons — that really have different definitions of America First.”Listen to the full conversation of The Intercept Briefing on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen. Federal agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection shot two people in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday. ABC News has the latest. Meanwhile, Minnesota officials say they were shut out of the investigation into the killing of a woman by ICE. White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller usually sticks to domestic policy issues. In this week’s Apple News In Conversation, Jonathan Blitzer of the New Yorker discusses why Miller is wading into Trump’s plans in Venezuela. In the aftermath of the killing of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO, corporations have changed how they think about security. The Wall Street Journal’s Chip Cutter joins to discuss what companies are doing to better protect executives. Plus, lawmakers passed an extension of ACA subsidies, NASA says astronauts are coming home from the ISS early, and the NFL playoffs kick off with some fresh faces at quarterback. Today’s episode was hosted by Shumita Basu.
U.S. intervention in other countries, whether overt or covert, is by no means new, and Daniel Immerwahr notes that the open embrace of expansionism by the President and associates such as Stephen Miller goes back to the nineteenth century. Immerwahr is a professor at Northwestern University and the author of the 2019 best-seller “How to Hide an Empire: A History of the Greater United States.” He discusses Trump's disdain for international law; tensions between the U.S. and Russia and China; and the historical link between imperialism and appeals to masculine pride.

Venezuela has become the flashpoint for a new era of American hard power - not just a regime change, but a raw assertion of dominance over the "backyard." Elohim Monard graces the pod with his presence once more as the U.S. treats a sovereign nation like a criminal organization to secure global oil markets, and the ideological fractures across Latin America deepen. Is this the beginning of a peaceful transition or the birth of ten years of chaos? This moment forces a reckoning: what happens when stability is traded for extraction, when ideology gives way to brute pragmatism, and when Latin America's future is shaped less by its people than by who controls the valves?--Timestamps:(00:00) - Intro(01:12) - Discussing Recent Events in Venezuela(02:59) - US Involvement and Imperialism(06:15) - Historical Context and Comparisons(08:58) - Reactions from Latin American Leaders(14:30) - Potential Future Scenarios(24:56) - Cuba's Situation and US Strategy(27:29) - Media Critique and Final Thoughts(28:46) - Stephen Miller's Perspective on Venezuela(32:36) - US Strategy in Latin America(34:00) - Future of US Dominance in the Western Hemisphere(37:14) - Impact of Chinese Investments(44:25) - Potential Chaos in Venezuela(54:38) - Implications for Peru(58:03) - Final Thoughts and Upcoming Discussions--Referenced in the Show:--Jacob Shapiro Site: jacobshapiro.comJacob Shapiro LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/jacob-l-s-a9337416Jacob Twitter: x.com/JacobShapJacob Shapiro Substack: jashap.substack.com/subscribe --The Jacob Shapiro Show is produced and edited by Audiographies LLC. SEASON 4 EPISODE 48: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: This is Trump’s terrorism; this is the Kent State of our time. A peaceful, unarmed protestor, murdered by Trump’s ICE, while Trump’s Lie Factory and Trump personally smeared her, blamed her, made up a story of threat where there was no threat, altered images, lied about her, lied about what the Gestapo they sent to kill Americans in American cities did to her. Two weeks from Saturday, it will be ten years since he said it. January 24, 2016: I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.” And once again his stochastic terrorist murderous wish has come true. Only it was on East 34th Street in Minneapolis. One of his Border-Patrol-ICE militia shot and killed Renee Macklin Good. ICE killed her, and then they slandered her. Trump has his wish. The Trump Administration has begun its shooting war, its reign of terror, against the peaceful and unarmed citizens of the United States. It can be disputed whether Renee Macklin Good was the first. It cannot be disputed that unless Trump is legally restrained, she will not be the last. And later, the ICE/Border Control militia attacked a Minneapolis high school. And Trump chose the day of his crime-by-proxy, after the murder, to insist that he has quote “determined” that the military budget for 2027 needs to be increased from the obscene level of one trillion dollars… by FIFTY PERCENT to a trillion and a half. That is the military he wants to use against American civilians on American streets. That is the military he JUST used against American civilians on American streets in Minneapolis. ALSO: I DON'T MAKE THE RULES. Trump's renditioning of Nicolas Maduro from Venezuela means, simply, that any country that would like to send a squad to this country to abduct one of our leaders needs only to have first indicted Trump in their own country - and cut a deal with JD Vance to take over as presidency and swear fealty to their country. B-Block (29:00) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Earlier this week seemed to have been dedicated to Trump's most concentrated revelation of his insanity. Tuesday, at a Republican retreat, he hit all the notes, and pretty much cemented the idea that he indeed suffers from anosognosia (an inability to perceive an illness, especially a dementia-related one). C-Block (37:00) DEATH BY MEDIA: This is just day six of the Tony Dokoupil debacle but if you don't think CBS could bail out of this fast, I was a witness when they took their third most profitable news property - the local CBS News in Los Angeles - and invented a new format called "The News Wheel." It went over so poorly it was cancelled after a month and a day. And since Bari Weiss skipped right past trying to emulate Fox News and went directly to Alex Jones News, they may have to bail out. But there's a whole back story you may not know about. WHY Weiss personally selected Dokoupil to helm this disaster, and why Katy Tur married him.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It hasn't been a pleasant start to the year. Jared and Mike scramble the jets to accommodate the horror in Minneapolis, coming to terms with the culture that makes opponents of MAGA expendable in the eyes of the regime and its propagandists. They pivot to another Minneapolis story, Nick Shirley and his age gap content co-creator, who recently started ringing doorbells looking for a place to drop off their “Little Joey.” The hosts also talk about Grok's revenge porn update, Curtis Yarvin's objectively weird rant about Hitler, and learn that a lathered up Stephen Miller really wants to go to war now. Episode Summary:In this urgent episode of Explaining History, Nick addresses the breaking news from Minnesota: the execution of 37-year-old Renée Good by ICE agents. This is not just a news story; it is a historical inflection point. We explore the parallels between the unchecked violence of ICE and the early days of the Nazi SA (Brownshirts) in 1933. When a paramilitary force operates with impunity and state backing, the rule of law collapses.Nick argues that we cannot separate the history of the 20th century from the crisis of the present. From the "flexible labor markets" of neoliberalism to the racial violence of the Jim Crow era, the forces that led to this moment have deep roots. Why are political figures like Kristi Noem rushing to defend the indefensible? And is the US now sliding into the kind of state-sanctioned terror usually associated with 1970s Latin American dictatorships?Key Topics:The Execution of Renée Good: Analyzing the chilling reports of an extrajudicial killing.Historical Parallels: Comparing the impunity of ICE to the Nazi Brownshirts. The Politics of Cruelty: Why figures like Stephen Miller revel in suffering. The End of the Liberal Order: How the "beacon of freedom" became a carceral state.Explaining History helps you understand the 20th Century through critical conversations and expert interviews. BULLETIN PODCAST: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN The Trump Administration has begun its shooting war, its reign of terror, against the peaceful and unarmed citizens of the United States. A woman is dead in Minneapolis, killed by ICE, reportedly a legal observer during a raid in a local neighborhood. In one statement, ICE claimed the victim was trying to run over an agent; in another it claimed an agent HAD been run over. Neither claim is true. Multiple videos show without a shadow of a doubt that this is a lie. As a car – which was not even blocking a street - moves out of the way of an ICE vehicle, a militia member exits HIS car, approaches the victim’s car from the back and the side, and shoots the driver three times through the driver's window. Reportedly in the face. The shooter is clear of the vehicle. Mayor Jacob Frey of Minneapolis has told ICE to "get the f***" out of Minneapolis. Minnesota governor Tim Walz has taken a preliminary step towards mobilizing his national guard, issued a so-called “warning order” to the Minnesota National Guard – as he termed it, a “heads up” to its members that he may call up the Guard. A full Countdown podcast will follow at Midnight.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Andrea joins Russian mafia expert Olga Lautman to expose the transnational looting spree and warn Stephen Miller will turn Venezuela into a new Alcatraz. First, we look at who stands to get rich off Trump's illegal invasion. Devin Nunes and a squad of Trump Media cronies just took over a company that tried to bid $10 billion for Citgo, Venezuela's oil crown jewel, right as their boss plotted a secret invasion. So who won Citgo? Why, MAGA billionaire Paul Singer, a vulture capitalist who serves as Trump's ATM and hand-picked Marco Rubio for Secretary of State. Who else is a big winner? The Republican Party's longtime backers, Exxon. Just as Trump hoped invading Venezuela would boost his plummeting approval ratings, Maduro threatened to invade oil-rich Guyana to distract from his own corruption. Now that Maduro is no longer harassing Exxon in Guyana, Exxon's stocks are soaring along with the rest of Big Oil. But the darkest "follow the money" story goes beyond oil. The private prison industry rakes in a fortune thanks to Trump's cruelty. El Salvador's CECOT mega-prison holds 40,000, but Trump and Stephen Miller want space for 80,000 people kidnapped from the U.S. Construction takes years; so Venezuela offers the obvious solution: the "New Alcatraz." Outsourcing prisoners to a lawless, torture-filled transnational Gulag, a story censored by Bari Weiss's CBS News, is the most troubling crisis of MAGA's illegal invasion of Venezuela and co-rule with a violent oil mafia. There's always hope, but it requires a blueprint and courage. The Venezuelan people proved their 2024 election victory through heroic citizen vote-counting: a model of resistance that we in the U.S. must study to reclaim our own democracy. We must align with these transnational forces for good to dismantle the global crime syndicate. We warned you this would happen. Now, we must organize, stand up, and remain defiant. What is America doing in Venezuela? On Jan. 3, the Trump administration launched an operation that ended with the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, who is now in New York City on narcoterrorism and weapons charges. “We're going to run it, essentially, until such time as a proper transition can take place,” Trump said.Mr. Trump's policy here is strange for a number of reasons: The U.S. is suffering from a fentanyl crisis, but Venezuela is not known as a fentanyl producer. Venezuela's oil reserves are not the path to geopolitical power that they might have been in the 1970s. Mr. Maduro was a brutal and corrupt dictator, but Mr. Trump has left his No. 2 in charge. And Mr. Trump ran for office promising fewer foreign entanglements — not more.So why Venezuela, and why now? That's the question we look at in this conversation.Jonathan Blitzer is a staff writer at The New Yorker. Trump wanted to alpha male and take some oil, Hegseth wanted to bomb something, Rubio wanted Maduro gone, and aggrieved Stephen Miller wanted to bully the weak. The White House eventually settled on Venezuela as the best place to take out its aggressions and drive home its anti-immigration message. And now the administration finds itself depending on an acting Venezuelan president who has a long history of being extremely anti-American. It's News Day Tuesday on the Majority Report On today's program: Sean Hannity attempts to coax Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado into gifting her Nobel Peace Prize to Donald Trump as a way to flatter him into installing her as Venezuela's president. Dr. Kristin Lyerly, OB-GYN and chair of the board of the Committee to Protect Public Health, joins the show to discuss RFK Jr.'s plan to reduce the number of vaccines recommended for newborns from 17 to 11. in the Fun Half: Sean Hannity tries to coax Maria Corina Machado into gifting her Nobel Peace Prize to Trump in hopes he'll return the favor by installing her as president on Venezuela Tucker Carlson and Cheryl Hines pretend to be confused on how vaccines are important to public health. RFK, Jr's claims there has been no research into links between autism and vaccines administered to newborns. Trump comments on the dilemma he faces in wanting young people to be able to buy homes but also not wanting to devalue the net worth of current homeowners. Of course, we know he will not address this crisis in any meaningful way. Stephen Miller and Jake Tapper debate Venezuela in a neo-con vs neo-liberal cage match. Francesca Fiorentini floats the idea the invasion of Venezuela could have started with GOP mega donor and owner of Citgo, Paul Singer. Chris Cuomo delivers a very confused monologue about Venezuela where he mashes several concepts together without any linearity or logic. All that and more. -- On the Show -- Senator Raphael Warnock, Democrat from Georgia, joins us to discuss the Trump administration's Venezuela operation and the stakes for U.S. credibility abroad -- Trump tells NBC that U.S. oil companies could rebuild Venezuela's oil infrastructure and then be reimbursed by the U.S. government, shifting taxpayer risk to protect corporate profits -- Donald Trump and allies including Lindsey Graham, Marco Rubio, and Stephen Miller float military action against Iran, Cuba, Colombia, and Greenland after campaigning on "no new wars" -- Legal experts discuss whether Trump's extrajudicial kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro could trigger universal jurisdiction and expose Trump to detention risk if he travels abroad -- Fox hosts struggle to reconcile Donald Trump calling foreign military action "not war" while framing domestic drug trafficking as "war," highlighting contradictions even in friendly media coverage -- Donald Trump posts false claims about the U.S. childhood vaccination schedule and promotes misinformation about vaccines and acetaminophen -- María Corina Machado flatters Trump and floats sharing a Nobel Peace Prize with him as Sean Hannity presses for loyalty -- Gavin Newsom publicly mocks Mike Johnson's U-Haul-based claims about California, cites recent population growth and wage and tax-burden arguments -- Volodymyr Zelensky highlights the inconsistency of Trump targeting Nicolás Maduro while avoiding any comparable action toward Vladimir Putin -- On the Bonus Show: Colombia and Mexico brace for Donald Trump's next moves as flu activity surges in the U.S. and overwhelms communities across the country
Today's Headlines: Trump's Venezuela operation keeps getting weirder. Nicolás Maduro and his wife pled not guilty in Manhattan court and Maduro insists he's “still president” — despite currently living at the detention center. Trump walked back his claim that Marco Rubio would “run Venezuela,” and is now elevating Stephen Miller to help oversee things with interim leader Delcy Rodriguez — while warning he'll launch more strikes if she doesn't cooperate. Meanwhile, Trump allies say opposition leader María Corina Machado blew her shot at power by… not giving Trump her Nobel Prize. To make things…more chaotic, Trump has started floating similar threats toward Cuba, Mexico, Colombia — and Greenland — prompting Greenland's prime minister to remind him that their country is “not an object of superpower rhetoric.” Congress only got briefed on the Venezuela strikes after the fact, because Trump says lawmakers “leak,” though somehow oil companies heard before and after. Also suspicious: someone made $400k on Polymarket betting Maduro would be deposed in January. Abroad, protests in Iran continue, and a British intel report says Ayatollah Khamenei has a “Plan B” escape route to Moscow if things collapse. In other news, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth censured Sen. Mark Kelly in the first step toward possible rank demotion — all because Kelly appeared in a video noting it's legal to refuse illegal military orders. The administration also slashed the number of recommended childhood vaccines from 17 to 11 — a move that could reshape insurance coverage and access next year and Arizona's Supreme Court building was evacuated after a suspicious package containing homemade explosive material was found. Lastly, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz announced he won't seek a third term following months of harassment fueled by Trump and right-wing trolls resurfacing an old Somali daycare fraud case. Rush Hour Podcast – Afternoon Edition Sponsored by Gobymeds. Go to gobymeds dot com code rushhour for $50 off Text messages take center stage in the escalating Blake Lively versus Justin Baldoni saga, as new receipts suggest Baldoni believed he was being set up in a calculated trap. We break down what the messages show, what they don't, and how this public legal chess match could backfire on both sides. Plus, major developments surrounding Rob Reiner and his family as his son appears to be positioning himself for trial—what's confirmed, what's speculation, and why the media narrative matters more than ever. We also cover Stephen Miller fueling controversy after discussing whether Donald Trump would consider invading Greenland, the swift response from the United Nations, and what this rhetoric signals about future foreign policy flashpoints. And finally, DHS reportedly cuts ties with Hilton Hotels—why the Department of Homeland Security is pulling back, what contracts are affected, and how politics and corporate America are colliding once again.
Trump triggers the media by again pushing the idea of US control over Greenland, and national treasure Stephen Miller explains the region's importance to America's national security. Again, it's not America ONLY. It's America FIRST. The left's hysteria over Nicolas Maduro's ousting is epic and unfortunate TDS. Former White House stenographer Mike McCormick joins us live to connect the dots between the op to take down Maduro and the Seditious 6 releasing their video encouraging mutiny.
Stephen Miller refused to answer Jake Tapper’s question about when there will be legitimate elections in Venezuela. CNN has finally lifted its ban on allowing Stephen Miller on to talk about the Trump administration but they may be rethinking it. Miller was in the war room for the Maduro extraction and is obviously the guy who really has Trump's ear. Wait until you hear how it went with Jake Tapper. JD Vance had his home attacked by a rock throwing, hammer swinging psycho named William. He goes by another name but it's not Bill. Trump has lowered the vax schedule for American kids from 72 to 11. Great progress. Hilton hotels has a Bud Light problem on its hands. In sports, Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuola is getting some interest to be a head coach. Bill Self has some younger KU fans crawling all up in his kitchen right now over the Darryn Peterson situation. Texas Tech's new quarterback has a billionaire paying him more in one year than Shadeur Sanders will make with the Cleveland Browns in 4 years. The FCS title game was old school college fun and our Final Final is the end of the monkey business in Prairie Village.
Donald Trump's refusal to walk back his regime-change rhetoric on Venezuela has now reignited international concern—this time over Greenland. Declaring that the United States needs Greenland “very badly,” Trump's remarks have intensified fears of a potential American move against the Arctic territory. Greenland is largely self-governing but remains part of the Danish kingdom, with Copenhagen responsible for defence and foreign policy. Denmark's prime minister, Mette Frederiksen, responded with an unusually blunt warning, stating that any US military action against Greenland would amount to an attack on a NATO ally—and could shatter the post-World War II global security order, which Stephen Miller seeks to disrupt at every juncture. David Waldman delivers another dispatch from and for the reality-based community. 2026 and still no video on this cast, because we know what you would do with it. Speaking of reality-based, we are back around to another anniversary of January 6. Keep it in mind, tightly, because they will always try to take that memory away. It was only a matter of time before Stephen Miller expanded his master race weltanschauung to other countries. The US may take whatever it wants because it can take whatever it wants, and no country can stop us! Not historically a well-received move, but it might work for us! The "Donald K. Trump coup d'état-of-the-week plan" isn't exactly "regime change". The intent isn't to create puppet governments, but zombie governments that can be pointed in the right direction with a torch every once in a while. Trump is doing this for two reasons. One, because he can. Two, because you can't stop him. Illegality is the point for Trump and MAGA. Megyn Kelly used to be all for that sort of thing, but now she has 16- and 14-year-old boys… well, you know the story. And then there is money. A zombie state would be great to experiment on, implant an economy, see how it goes. Betting markets can wager on how long it will survive. If the zombie survives, you have a slave, if not, you feed it to the other zombies.

SEASON 4 EPISODE 46: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: Well, that's it in sum, isn't it? He's "El Presidente" now, isn't he? Military Dictator. Succeeding Maduro. Until he finds somebody else to “run” it. Not the elected Vice President. Not the actual winner of the last election. Not the U-N. Maybe somebody he, in his dysfunctional haze, somebody he can trust. Maybe an oil executive. Or Elon Musk. Or Catturd. The invasion was illegal there, and illegal here. The kidnapping was illegal. Declaring we would run it is illegal. Naming a proxy dictator is illegal. As was his threat yesterday to the acting president that quote “if she doesn’t do what’s right, she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro” and calling for her belief that her country shouldn’t be invaded by another country breaking its own laws is quote “defiant rejection.” THAT’S illegal. It’s all illegal. That’s a lot of illegal – even for Trump. And I say this, hating Maduro completely. So he needs to be impeached, if not now then a year from now. Rubio can be impeached now for deceiving Congress about its approval. And both of them turned over to the World Court. And the ramifications are almost uncountable, including emboldening them to consider this in Cuba, Greenland, Iran. The poll numbers are terrible, and the risk to Americans of terrorism and violence are just as terrible. And maybe worst of all the evidence of linkage between Putin's strange silence about his ally Maduro, and Trump's dithering about Ukraine, is terrible too. But at least it produced a pretty good Olivia Nuzzi joke. ALSO: WHY DID THEY CHANGE THE TRUMP HEALTH COVER-UP STORY AGAIN? Five significant changes, about his MRI/CT, his cardiovascular health, and now the total of Cognitive tests he's gotten in just the last nine months. Three? Not two? He's really needed three tests in nine months? To repeat the insightful question from his niece Mary Trump: Why do they have to keep giving him cognitive tests? B-Block (40:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: There's begging the new boss to let you keep your current job, then there's what CBS Legal Analyst Jan Crawford is doing for Bari Weiss to try to keep hers. Chuck Schumer comes out firing on Venezuela: with one-millionth of one barrel blazing. And just when you think Cheryl Hines can't get any dumber, Tucker Carlson tries to talk to her about vaccines. C-Block (50:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Will Ferrell did a great comedy bit at the L.A. Kings hockey game on New Year's Day and he did it for the pure joy of it. Which reminded me of the difference between amateurs and pros, and of the days when "Anchorman" was new and Will and I ad libbed a pretty good comedy bit that he said he really loved doing. Today's Headlines: Looks like there's no easing into this new year. Trump dramatically escalated his Venezuela fixation this weekend, launching major strikes in Caracas and having Nicolás Maduro pulled from his home and flown to federal detention in Brooklyn. Maduro was re-indicted on familiar narcotrafficking charges, while Trump bragged that the U.S. is effectively “running Venezuela now” alongside American oil companies. But instead of installing Trump's preferred opposition figure, Venezuela's Supreme Court tapped Maduro's vice president Delcy Rodríguez as interim leader. Before all that, the U.S. had spent weeks chasing a Venezuela-bound oil tanker — until Russia swooped in on New Year's Eve, added it to its registry, and painted a Russian flag on the side to shield it from seizure. Trump also hosted President Zelensky at Mar-a-Lago with Stephen Miller, Jared Kushner, and Pete Hegseth, claiming “progress” while simultaneously echoing outrage on Putin's behalf after a friendly call with him. Abroad, Switzerland's army chief warned the country couldn't withstand a major attack, protests in Iran turned deadly as Trump threatened to “intervene,” and Trump ordered Christmas Day strikes on ISIS militants in Nigeria. On the home front, Trump froze all childcare payments nationwide after citing a Minnesota welfare fraud case involving a small group of Somali immigrants — while simultaneously moving to garnish wages from millions of student loan borrowers in default starting in January. One notable check on his power: the Supreme Court ruled 6–3 against his National Guard deployments to several U.S. cities. Meanwhile, the newly released Jack Smith testimony says he had evidence Trump committed multiple felonies that could rise to treason before his cases were shut down — and the massive Epstein document dump is already under scrutiny for delays, missing records, and questionable redactions, including internal DOJ emails noting Trump flew on Epstein's plane more than previously known. BULLETIN: TRUMP'S ILLEGAL WAR WITH VENEZUELA Two months ago, in an interview, Trump's Chief of Staff Susie Wiles "conceded that attacking targets on Venezuela’s mainland would force Trump to get congressional approval. Quote: "If he were to authorize some activity on land, then it’s war, then [we’d need] Congress.'" She was entirely right. Yet overnight Trump invaded Venezuela and seized its leader Nicolas Maduro. To paraphrase his own chief of staff he DID authorize some activity on land, then it’s war, then [we’d need] Congress.'" AND TRUMP BROKE THE LAW AND BREACHED THE CONSTITUTION. And this morning he and his hapless Vice President JD Vance confirmed this is as much about seizing oil - as much about increasing the profits of American corporations - as any supposed "narco-terrorism." Without any Congressional consent, Trump did this - anyway - from inside his madness, from within his monomaniacal delusional fog - without any legal right to do so - without any legal right THERE and without any legal right HERE. On his own. Without congressional approval. Without the nation's approval. Without even the flimsiest of the fig leaves of democracy. Without any international consensus. Without any concern for the consequences. Without any consideration of the precedent he provides China in Taiwan and Russia in Poland and any other tyrannical bandit nation anywhere in this world. And we, thanks to Trump, we - the United States of America - are now that tyrannical bandit nation. It is important to note that on the simple, theoretical scale of who should remain as the leader of a failed rogue state, there is no defense for Nicolas Maduro. There is overwhelming evidence that he fabricated his latest quote “re-election” after first denuding the opposition and the law within his country. Again, by those tokens Trump has just put us on that identical path. And the idea that a country is suffering under a dictator who has no moral right to continue can be said even more easily of Putin. And of Xi in China. And dozens of others, many of whom Trump considers friends, about whom he makes no distinction. Maduro has no moral right to continue as president of Venezuela, and Trump has no moral right to act upon that by himself. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
