When dangerous strangers wreak havoc on yuppie couples — the police protect the stranger! How's a yuppie supposed to guard their investment in decorative glass blocks? This week's episode has the answers as we watch: PACIFIC HEIGHTS (1990) starring Melanie Griffith, Matthew Modine, and Michael Keaton as the con man who's one step ahead. UNLAWFUL ENTRY (1992) starring Kurt Russell, Madeleine Stowe, and Ray Liotta with an electric performance as an obsessed, psychopathic cop.
Matthew Modine "is one of the best, most adaptable film actors of his generation," says The New York Times. Modine's iconic portrayals in films such as Alan Parker's BIRDY, Louden Swain in VISION QUEST, Stanley Kubrick's FULL METAL JACKET, and Dr. Martin “Papa” Brenner in Netflix's global phenomenon STRANGER THINGS have cemented his legacy in the entertainment industry. Modine recently starred in the Netflix political thriller series "Zero Day," where he plays the Speaker of the House. If you watch this Cybercrime Magazine video interview with Modine, then you might also call him an expert on the good, the bad, and the ugly that artificial intelligence (AI) brings to society. Our host Sam White dives deep into AI, the Internet, cybercrime, privacy, surveillance, and a whole lot more with Modine. Modine draws parallels between George Orwell's “1984”, the famous dystopian novel and cautionary tale, and what we are living through now in the age of AI. Despite his concerns around AI, Modine touts the benefits of it, namely its potential for sharing medical information during epidemics, helping to feed starving people around the globe, and more. If AI could play a role in taking down the U.S. power grid, then Modine helps us imagine what that might be like. Modine gets personal with Cybercrime Magazine and shares his love for New York City, his experience working with Robert De Niro, and a deepfake song involving George Michael and Wham! This interview may be Modine like you've never seen him before. Visit the Official Matthew Modine Website at https://matthewmodine.com. Joan Allen, Jesse Plemons, and Connie Britton round out De Niro's inner circle, while Lizzy Caplan and Matthew Modine are members of congress "just asking questions" about De Niro's investigative operation. But the biggest, most pressing question of all... Why does Ben feel the need to do his Randy Newman impression in this episode?!
Netflix's latest political thriller, “Zero Day,” is a chilling deep dive into cyber warfare, misinformation, and the terrifying power of perception. Led by Robert De Niro in his first television series, the six-episode event follows former president George Mullen as he's reluctantly pulled back into the political fray to investigate a devastating cyberattack. But as the layers of the crisis unravel, so do the hidden forces manipulating the narrative, turning Mullen into both a hero and a pawn. The series, co-created by Noah Oppenheim, Eric Newman, and Michael Schmidt, features a stellar cast including Jesse Plemons, Lizzy Caplan, Connie Britton, Joan Allen, Dan Stevens, Gaby Hoffmann, Matthew Modine, and Angela Bassett.Director Lesli Linka Glatter helms all six episodes, bringing her experience from “Homeland” and “Love & Death” to craft a nail-biting, visually rich thriller that feels eerily prescient. She joined Bingeworthy to chat about what drew her to the project, collaborating with De Niro, and why truth itself is a weapon in today's world.

Vision Quest was released in theaters February 15, 1985. Based on a book that was hot in the young adult space, it featured a young Matthew Modine as Loudon Swain - a high school wrestler from Spokane, Washington who is looking to accomplish something big in his life. While the movie had limited appeal beyond teenagers (it only grossed $13 million), cable TV and video rental stores gave the movie continued life among teenagers for many years. A big reason it continued to draw 80s teens and carry such strong nostalgia today is the soundtrack. Put together by John Kalodner for Geffen Records, it featured some of the hottest pop and rock artists of the day and sold over 1 million copies in the US. Madonna, who was hot off her Like A Virgin Tour, contributes two songs - the unreleased as a single in the US Gambler and mega hit Crazy For You - and she had a cameo in the film singing them both. Journey offered Only The Young from the Frontiers sessions and the video, like Crazy For You, featured scenes from the film, helping the singles sell big numbers. Those two songs along with Red Rider's Lunatic Fringe set the tone for the film and make the songs and movie so intertwined. Some songs from bands like The Style Council, Don Henley and Dio might be overlooked as background music to certain scenes, songs like Change by John Waite (written by the legend Holly Knight) and Lunatic Fringe really keep you energized and engaged in Loudon's quest to drop 22 pounds and beat the unbeatable Shute on the wrestling mat. You have the tender Crazy For You for the romantic scenes, Journey for the training scenes and lots of rock and pop royalty. Even great songs by Berlin, Quarterflash and REO Speedwagon were left off the soundtrack but appear in the movie, including some solid work by Tangerine Dream. Maybe we like this film because as two former teenage boys, we could relate to what this guy was going through. But we continue to like the soundtrack because it had killer songs (with a couple of clunkers) that stand the test of time and play a huge role in the film. Matthew Modine two weeks in a row on this show, but it's Al Pacino and Cameron Diaz who star here along with more big names like Dennis Quaid, Jamie Foxx, James Woods and LL Cool J in the story of an American Football Team. It's a family team, but the coach and the now dead owners daughter perhaps don't see eye to eye. Stick around through the credits is Stephens advice, but listen here to what Trev thinks of this Oliver Stone directed film. All thanks to Fetch and Hisense!
Some recognisable faces, none less than Alex Baldwin, Michelle Pfeiffer, Matthew Modine to name just three in this story of a mob family in New York. A troubled wife tries to break free, but can't. She gets involved with someone that causes complications and it's all crazy from there. A serious mob story or a romantic comedy - you choose.
What happens when the acclaimed and idiosyncratic director of JFK, Natural Born Killers, and The Doors attempts to direct a conventional sports drama about his favorite sport? Multiple Oscar-winner Oliver Stone showed us back in December 1999 that the result would be clearly anything BUT conventional! And he had quite the cast for this epic tail of a few weeks in the life of the fictional Miami Sharks, a professional football team at a crossroads. They have a hot-headed new owner (Cameron Diaz) trying in to rein their beleaguered veteran coach (Al Pacino) and have also just lost their veteran quarterback (Dennis Quaid) to a severe injury so they have to replace him with a third string quarterback (Jamie Foxx) with something to prove. And what results is a wild 160 minutes of big budget football insanity jam-packed with game-related violence, debauchery, and VERY loud arguments! Also included in this stacked cast are James Woods, LL Cool J, Jim Brown, Aaron Eckhart, Matthew Modine, John C. McGinley, Lela Rochon, Lawrence Taylor, Elizabeth Berkley, AND the late great Charlton Heston. :) It's time to make a run for the Pantheon Cup....Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

This week on The Video Store Podcast, we're diving into some adventurous waters with four pirate films you might not have rented yet, but are worth a look. These films span decades, showing how Hollywood has captured the allure of swashbuckling adventures over time. Whether you're a fan of classic Hollywood, musicals, or big-budget ‘90s action, I've picked a lineup that I think captures the spirit of the genre in different ways. Here's what's on this episode:Captain Blood (1935)If you're curious about Errol Flynn's big break, Captain Blood is the film to watch. Directed by Michael Curtiz, who later went on to make Casablanca, this movie was released during the Golden Age of Hollywood and set the standard for pirate films to come. In it, Flynn plays Dr. Peter Blood, an Irish physician turned reluctant pirate, a role that became iconic for him. Olivia de Havilland co-stars, marking the first of eight films they'd appear in together. The movie was actually adapted from Rafael Sabatini's 1922 novel, and what's interesting is that Flynn wasn't the studio's first choice. Warner Bros. originally wanted Robert Donat, but when he turned it down, they took a chance on Flynn, who was then unknown. The film went on to be a hit, and Flynn's career took off from there.Treasure Island (1950) Disney's first fully live-action film was Treasure Island, adapted from Robert Louis Stevenson's novel. This film captures the heart of the classic pirate tale with Bobby Driscoll as Jim Hawkins and Robert Newton as the unforgettable Long John Silver. Newton's portrayal of Silver is what many credit with shaping the “pirate accent” we recognize today, especially that exaggerated “Arrr.” For a lot of people, myself included, this is the definitive version of Treasure Island, so it's a must-watch for anyone wanting a straightforward adaptation of the classic tale. The Pirate Movie (1982)The Pirate Movie is very different from the last two films. It is more of a campy, musical rom-com take on The Pirates of Penzance. If you're looking for a quirky, offbeat experience, this film, starring Kristy McNichol and Christopher Atkins, is definitely that. Though critics weren't fond of it when it was released, it's gained a bit of a cult following since then. One interesting thing about this movie is that it openly riffs on the Gilbert and Sullivan opera it's based on, adding a lot of modern (for the time) references. It's worth a watch if you're into musicals and don't mind a less traditional approach to a pirate story.Cutthroat Island (1995)Last up is Cutthroat Island, an ambitious, big-budget adventure directed by Renny Harlin and starring Geena Davis and Matthew Modine. Known mostly for being a notorious box office bomb, it has gained some appreciation over the years for its impressive stunt work, practical effects, and for putting a female pirate in the lead. Davis plays Morgan Adams, a captain on a quest to find hidden treasure. While the film's financial failure might have overshadowed its merits at the time, there's a lot to admire. It's also one of the last pirate movies before Pirates of the Caribbean would revive the genre nearly a decade later. If you're ready for a bit of pirate escapism, these four movies offer different takes on the genre, from classic Hollywood adventure to musical satire to large-scale nineties action. Listen to the show to hear a little more about each film and why they're worth watching, and maybe even renting, this week. This is a public episode. Actor John Scott Clough appeared in two of the great 80s movies - one underrated and one super cheesy. His big break came in the Sidney Poitier directed Fast Forward about a dance troupe from Ohio who move to the Big Apple to "make it". After appearances in other movies and TV shows of the era like Family Ties, Empty Nest and the Love Boat, he also had a juicy role in Gross Anatomy with Matthew Modine and Christine Lahti. He gives us juicy tidbits from all of this and more including eventually retiring from acting and spending the last few years battling cancer. If I can't use this platform to connect with people I've always found interesting (music or not) then what's the point? Hope you enjoy it! www.patreon.com/thehustlepod

On today's show, I open with more proof that the Democrat strategists behind the scenes have decided an acceptable number of Americans are going to be maimed, injured, victimized or killed in order to allow for a new, permanent underclass of voters. The illegal invasion continues to prove that with more innocent deaths, most of them violent and horrific, at the hands of repeat offenders and repeat border-crossers. The other lie they hope you believe is that their use of “lawfare” is only meant for Donald Trump. Even if that was their only intended victim, it is still wrong and anti-American. But, as we have demonstrated over and over again on this show, they are using it for ALL of their political opposition. And, by “opposition”, I mean anyone who goes against their State approved mandates or narratives. Such is the case with Dr. Eithan Haim of Texas Children's Hospital. As a whistleblower, Dr. Haim revealed a secret and illegal transgender medicine clinic for kids at Texas Children's Hospital. Rather than be applauded for exposing this heinous butchering of our youth, the Biden DOJ has charged him with four felonies. The Legacy/mainstream media is dutifully pushing the latest propaganda piece from the White House. All those videos we are seeing of Joe Biden freezing in place, moving in super slo-mo, wandering off and having to be led by the hand or the elbow back to the group are all “deep fakes” from the far-right. As an example, Nicole Wallace on MSNBC literally shows an edited video to show you how the LA event ended, rather than an unedited one showing former President Barack Obama having to grab Biden and then lead him off the stage, keep his arm across his back the whole time. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre started this ridiculous piece of propaganda and their dutiful servants in the media are repeating it. You know this latest tap-dance lie is bad when even Fox News's Brett Baier had to side with the unedited videos showing us all just how badly Joe Biden is performing. Even if you don't want to believe what you are seeing, just listen to Joe try to explain the jobs market. It's embarrassing. VP Kamala Harris was asked to explain why their message wasn't resonating with the Democrat base? She literally said it takes time for people to feel the policies. No, madam Vice President, I think we have all been feeling your policies for quite some time now. Which is likely why Trump's rally in Detroit once again has him winning over more black voters. Larry Kudlow on Fox Business did a 3 minute monologue on how Trump is moving forward on positive and unifying messages while Joe Biden is caught frozen in time and place. Finally, we end with actor Matthew Modine shocked to find that someone at Amazon Prime has altered the helmet his character wore in Full Metal Jacket. It seems a woke, cancel culture, Leftists removed the words “Born to Kill” from the iconic poster image. Well, Matthew, that's what happens you embrace this current Leftist agenda. Even things you love get erased. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. On the 52nd Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest Fozzy frontman and current AEW FTW Champion, Chris Jericho, review the 1985 soundtrack for the movie, "Vision Quest." Vision Quest is the story of high school senior wrestler who wants to lose weight and get into a lower weight class just to battle a seemingly impossible foe. The movie which starred Matthew Modine and Linda Fiorentino was not a box office success, but has since become an 80's cult hit. Vision Quest is the rare movie which has been helped by it movie soundtrack. The soundtrack is filled with many successful 80's artist, including two songs from Madonna who was skyrocketing into superstardom at the time. Most of the artists, with the exception of Madonna and The Style Council, were hard rock acts, like Foreignor, Dio, Sammy Hagar and Journey. Other artist involved were Don Henley, Red Rider and John Waite. The album went platinum in the United States and made it to #30 on the US Billboard 200. Tracks like Only The Young, Hot Blooded, Hungry For Heaven and Lunatic Fringe as still found on classic rock stations this day. But it was the two songs including, Crazy For You, by Madonna that made this soundtrack become of the best and most popular of the 1980's. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 50 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew.
