It's Marvel Monday and Ant-Man teams up with The Wasp! ABOUT ANT-MAN AND THE WASP As Scott Lang balances being both a superhero and a father, Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man fighting alongside The Wasp to uncover secrets from their past. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR ANT-MAN AND THE WASP July 6, 2018 | Theatrical Release CAST & CREW OF ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Director: Peyton Reed Writers: Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Paul Rudd Cast: Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp Michael Peña as Luis Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost Randall Park as Jimmy Woo Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster/Goliath Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym BRAN'S MOVIE SYNOPSIS We open with a flashback to the days when Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne were the original Ant-Man and Wasp. Things are going great until Janet gets trapped in the Quantum Realm, which, as it turns out, is not an ideal vacation destination. Fast forward to after the events of Civil War. Scott Lang is nearing the end of his house arrest and trying to stay out of trouble. Hank and Hope briefly open a tunnel to the Quantum Realm, which somehow causes Scott to have a vision of Janet as a little girl playing hide-and-seek. Instead of questioning any of this, everyone decides it's proof that Janet is still alive. Hope and Hank kidnap Scott, replacing him with a giant ant wearing his ankle monitor. The trio sets out to rescue Janet, but first they need a special part from shady businessman Sonny Burch. Sonny immediately realizes there's money to be made and betrays them, leading to a fight with a mysterious masked woman called Ghost, who steals Hank's entire portable laboratory. Trying to get their lab back, they visit Hank's old partner Bill Foster, who explains that Ghost is actually Ava Starr, the daughter of another former colleague whose experiment went very, very wrong. Ava is now phasing in and out of existence and is constantly in pain. Her plan? Steal Janet's Quantum Realm energy to save herself. The only problem is that doing so might kill Janet. Meanwhile, Janet starts sending messages from the Quantum Realm and provides directions. She warns them they only have a couple of hours before the Quantum Realm decides to strand them for another hundred years. Things get complicated. Sonny learns where they are. The FBI arrests Hank and Hope. Ava steals the lab. It's alot but also nothing. Eventually, Scott helps everyone escape, they recover the lab, and Hank ventures into the Quantum Realm to rescue Janet. He finds her alive, looking surprisingly well for someone who's spent decades trapped in a dimension beyond space and time. What follows is a giant chase across San Francisco featuring shrinking buildings, growing cars, a whole lot of size changing. While Scott and Hope deal with Sonny and Ghost, Hank successfully brings Janet home. Rather than holding a grudge, Janet uses her Quantum powers to stabilize Ava and save her life. In the end, Scott finally completes his house arrest, Sonny gets arrested, Ava and Bill go into hiding, and everyone seems happy. But then the mid-credits scene happens. And it's no longer happy go lucky time. Scott heads back into the Quantum Realm to collect healing energy for Ava. Just as he's ready to come home, Hank, Hope, and Janet all turn to dust thanks to Thanos. Scott is left trapped in the Quantum Realm. Bat Therapy: Psychology of Batman and other Comic Superheroes
Psychologist Dr. Emilia Brown provides her Recruitment Assessment for the Avengers Initiative on Scott Lang, the current Ant-Man. Do Scott Lang's optimism and easy-going nature make him a prime candidate for the Avengers or is he too prone to getting himself caught? Dr. Brown and Keeden may disagree about whether his biggest worth to the Avengers is that he is expendable, but one thing is for sure. Scott Lang is likely the most resilient and mentally healthy Avenger. Also, Wasp would be a great Avenger (duh).
"YOU'RE THE WORLD'S GREATEST GRANDMA." After Ant-Man 1 surprised audiences and Civil War left him in an uncertain position, many wondered what Scott Lang's next adventure would look like. What they would get in a couple years is something that builds upon the heist aspect from the first film, though many over the years feel the film is a bit bland. So, what do we think? Come join Brian, Alec, Darby, and Trey to find out as they continue Phase 3 of the MCUathon with ANT-MAN AND THE WASP!
It's Marvel Monday and we're shrinking down to size! ABOUT ANT-MAN Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, pull off a plan that will save the world. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR ANT-MAN July 17, 2015 | Theatrical Release CAST & CREW OF ANT-MAN Director: Peyton Reed Writers: Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, Adam McKay Cast: Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym Corey Stoll as Darren Cross/Yellowjacket Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne BRAN'S MOVIE SYNOPSIS Back in 1989, Hank Pym is working with S.H.I.E.L.D. until he finds out they're trying to copy his shrinking technology, and he's like, “Absolutely not, y'all are way too shady for tiny science.” So he quits and decides nobody gets the shrink suit on his watch. Fast forward to the present and Hank's life is not going great. His daughter Hope is mad at him, his former protégé Darren Cross has basically stolen his company, and Cross is this close to making his own terrifying murder-shrinking suit called Yellowjacket. Hank sees this and is like, “Cool, this is really bad” and does not sign off on it but Darren doesn't care. Meanwhile, we meet Scott Lang, a lovable ex-con whose main personality trait is that he's trying really hard. He gets out of prison, moves in with his buddy Luis, and wants to be a good dad to his daughter Cassie. Unfortunately, society has decided once you've gone to jail you're only allowed to work at Baskin-Robbins for like six minutes before getting fired. He tries to visit Cassie, but his ex Maggie and her cop fiancé Paxton are like, “Maybe pay child support before doing surprise pop-ins, my guy.” So naturally, Scott does what any struggling dad trying to get his life together would do: he agrees to do one more burglary. His buddy Luis tells him about this rich old dude's house with a big safe, so Scott breaks in, cracks the safe, and finds… a weird leather motorcycle suit. Not cash. Not jewels. He takes it home, puts it on, and immediately shrinks down to bug-size and nearly dies in a bathtub and getting stomped on at a party, all while some voice talks to him in his mask. Terrified, Scott decides to return the suit, but on his way out he gets arrested. cuz thief. But surprise! The whole thing was a setup by Hank Pym, who wanted to see if Scott had the skills to become the new Ant-Man. He tells Scott that if he wants to help and also get out of the jail, to put back on the suit. It works and he shrinks again and sneaks out.. Hank recruits Scott to help steal the Yellowjacket tech before Darren Cross can sell it to evil people, which, spoiler alert, he absolutely plans to do. So now Scott enters the classic superhero training montage portion of the movie where he learns hand-to-hand combat, how to use the suit, and most importantly, how to command ants like some kind of tiny bug king. Hope, meanwhile, is clearly way more qualified for all of this and would obviously be better at the job, but Hank refuses to let her do it because he's still deeply traumatized over what happened to her mother Janet. We learn Janet was the original Wasp and got lost in the Quantum Realm years ago while stopping a missile, which is both sad and also the most comic-book sentence imaginable. To prep for the big heist, Scott needs a special device, which means he has to sneak into Avengers headquarters. This leads to a random but delightful side quest where he fights Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, and somehow wins mostly by being annoying and tiny. It's one of those MCU moments where the movie just casually reminds you, “Oh right, this all technically connects.” Then it's time for the big finale. Darren Cross unveils the Yellowjacket at Pym Technologies during a fancy event, and Scott and the crew break in to stop the sale. Luis and the gang somehow become essential parts of the mission despite being, at best, wildly underqualified. Scott sneaks in with a whole army of ants, plants explosives, and tries to steal the suit. But Cross is ready for them because of course he is, and he captures Scott, Hank, and Hope. He reveals he's planning to sell the tech to Hydra, because if there's one thing Hydra loves, it's tiny fascism. Things go sideways fast, but Scott and Hope fight back, the building starts collapsing, and Hank gets shot because apparently old men in Marvel are legally required to get wounded in the third act. Scott chases Cross, who puts on the Yellowjacket suit and becomes a full-on flying nightmare. Their final battle somehow goes from high-tech corporate warfare to a fight in Cassie's bedroom, which is honestly one of the best visual gags in the whole movie. Trains are crashing, Thomas the Tank Engine is involved, and to Cassie it probably just looks like two dads having a nervous breakdown. When Cross takes Cassie hostage, Scott has no choice but to do the one thing Hank warned him never to do: override the regulator and shrink beyond human comprehension into the Quantum Realm. Which sounds fake, but in this movie is very real and extremely stressful. Scott manages to sabotage Yellowjacket from the inside, Cross gets absolutely obliterated, and somehow Scott finds his way back from the Quantum Realm because apparently he's just built different. After saving literally everyone, Scott finally gets a win. Paxton decides maybe this guy isn't so bad after all and helps keep him out of prison. Hank realizes that if Scott could survive the Quantum Realm, maybe Janet could still be alive. Hope gets teased with her own Wasp suit, which everyone in the audience immediately wanted to see instead, and Luis pops back in at the end to say Falcon is looking for Scott because once you do one weird tiny mission, suddenly the Avengers are texting. insta : laboite2chocolat ou la_boitedechocolatPour ce 20 eme épisode on va parler de Ant Man 2,Du coup ça raconte quoi ?Et bien déjà, on replace le contexte :Scott Lang, aka Anti Man, est en assignation à résidence. Tu comprends rien. Mais ça semble good vibes. George McFly's A Match Made in Space, from “Back to the Future”… Hank Moody's God Hates Us All,” from “Californication”… Dr. Frederick Frankenstein's How I Did It, from “Young Frankenstein”… Some of our best-loved movies and television shows feature books written by one of the lead characters. In many cases, the publication of those “books” becomes a central plot point or a running gag. (Think Handbook for the Recently Deceased, from “Beetlejuice.”) In other cases, those books leap from the screen and onto our bookshelves—IRL, as the kids like to say. That's the case with Look Out for the Little Guy, the in-movie memoir by Scott Lang, also known as Ant-Man, as seen on screen in the Marvel Studios blockbuster, “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.” The book was published by Hyperion Avenue in September and became an immediate New York Times best-seller, but here's a news flash: it wasn't really written by Scott Lang, the “Everyman Avenger” played in the movie by actor Paul Rudd. And no, it wasn't really written by Paul Rudd, whose face graces the front cover of the book in stores and online, and as it appears as a prop in the movie. In fact, the book was really written by our guest Rob Kutner, a veteran comedy writer who has collected five Emmys, a Peabody and a Grammy writing for such shows as “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” on Comedy Central, and “Conan,” on TBS. Rob's other television writing credits include “Teen Titans Go,” “Angry Birds: Summer Madness” and “Dennis Miller Live,” and he has also written material for the Oscars, Emmys, and MTV Movie Awards broadcasts, as well as for two White House Correspondents Dinners. He is also the author of Apocalypse How: Turn the End-Times into the Best of Times! and the just-published Snot Goblins and Other Tasteless Tales, with illustrations by David DeGrand. Join us as Rob shares what it was like to channel the voice of a fictional character to craft a page-turning memoir of an ex-con turned world-saving superhero, and to be tasked with the caretaking of the life and legacy of one of the most beloved characters in the Marvel Universe. Elias convinced Jaina that we needed to do this book. Does she regret agreeing? Only time, and this episode, will tell. What did we read? "Look Out for the Little Guy!" aka the in-universe Scott Lang memoir that was actually written in ours by Rob Kutner. Also, as if the universe decided to laugh at me (Elias,) I finally found the author's website when putting the post together. It was not the same Robert Kuttner I thought it was. Dang.Next time, we keep on the movie and book train as the crew reads "MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios." It was, after all, inevitable.

This week Nick Averwater talks with author & educator Scott Lang. We last spoke with Scott in December 2020 about the State of Music Education survey, which started as a result of the pandemic. The survey is now in its fourth version, with version 5 expected later in 2023, so we thought it was time to check back in to see what has changed in the music education world, post-pandemic. Our conversation is broken up into two episodes, and this is part 1.
It seems Robbie thought Jay and Art were Ken-ough to handle this episode on the Barbie movie. So what are Guys of a Certain Age doing at the Barbie movie, anyway? Was it nostalgia for other action figures back in the day that hung out with Barbie on toy store shelves? Was it the inclusion of actors from the superhero multiverse? Or was it just a curiosity to see what all the hype was about? Because they were already at the theater to see Oppenheimer, right? Yes. All that and more. And it seems the Barbie-Heimer double feature release may have been one of the last blockbuster movie duos to not be delayed further by the ongoing strikes and other unknown studio shenanigans. That's right - sorry, Robbie - Art announced that Dune 2's release date has been delayed for mysterious reasons. [ROBBIE NOTE: Like I listen to ether of you anyway.] But Jay has an answer to how to fill all the extra time that would have been spent watching new releases at the theater: read a book. Specifically, read Scott Lang's in-MCUniverse autobiography, soon to be released in full by Marvel. Plus, there's all that content already online that Jay, for one, can't seem to keep up with. Art and Jay recommend The Beanie Bubble, which has less superhero crossover, but just as much nostalgia. Listen to this one in pink, if you're Guy enough.
This week's episode is packed with brand new comics news including a new Thanos solo series featuring an all new Illuminati, the first Wolverine and Sabretooth fight of the Krakoan Era, early Marvel Unlimited releases for Hellfire Gala and Fallen Friend, and more! Have you ever wondered what it is like screenwriting inside the Marvel and Studio machine? Wonder no further, today we have screenwriter and director Joe Cornish. Joe was one of the writer's on Marvel's Ant-Man. The English comedian and filmmaker burst onto the scene in 2011 with his very successful film directorial debut, Attack The Block, starring John Boyega, who played Moses, a low-level crook, teenage gang leader, an orphan looking for respect around the block. The British sci-fi comedy horror film centers on a teenage street gang who have to defend themselves and their block from predatory alien invaders on Guy Fawkes Night.Cornish and his comedy partner, Adam Buxton form the successful duo, Adam & Joe an ironic pop culture sketch show which gained a lot of success in the UK alongside Cornish's long-term work in the UK TV entertainment industry. In 2011 he joined iconic directors, Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg as a writer for the screenplay and story for the 3D animated action-adventure film, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn --- co-written alongside Edgar Wright and Steven Moffat.Intrepid reporter Tintin and Captain Haddock set off on a treasure hunt for a sunken ship commanded by Haddock's ancestor. This $135 million budget film grossed $374 million at the box office and received a plethora of nominations including Oscars for Best Original Score, a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film, two BAFTA nominations for Best Animated Film and Best Special Visual Effects.Cornish co-wrote the screenplay for the Marvel Comic character, Ant-Man, along with Wright, Adam McKay, and Paul Rudd in 2015.Rudd, starring as Ant-Man is armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Similar to most Marvel Studio movies, the film carried a big budget of $169.3 million and grossed $519.3 million. His latest film, The Kid Who Would Be King (2019), which was written undirected by Cornish, joins a band of kids who embarks on an epic quest to thwart a medieval menace.Joe honestly, was extremely forthcoming and transparent about a lot of things; like what really happened behind the scenes on Ant-Man and what it's like to write inside the Marvel machine, working with filmmaking legends like Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson. And we also discuss his craft, how he approaches screenwriting and directing, and much more.Enjoy this conversation with Joe Cornish.
