OC Men's basketball player talks to us about his unique stories, his basketball career, Doug Doorman, and his band
It’s our regularly scheduled closing time at Hart of Dixie Chicks, so finish your whiskeys and beers. We decided to give our dear hearts a super sized episode for the last one, mostly because we couldn’t shut up about Zoe Hart, Wade Kinsella, and all our favorite Bluebellians. Plus, we have some entries in the mailbag as well as guest appearances from our podfathers The OC Men, the BS Twins, and a sweet message from Eliza Jo. Stay to the end to hear all about what we have planned after a (brief) pod-hiatus. We love you most, dear hearts!
Chaos. When you mix, when you smash, when you mash – up get chaos. And that’s what we have on this week’s episode of Hear We Go Podcast as the Hart of Dixie Chicks and OC Men mash up to help me on my musical journey. Listen along to all of the mashed up fun, www.lead.deals
The Series Wrapup – the OC Men invite the Hart of Dixie Chicks to talk about the entire series of The O.C. and send it off in style. We read some reviews from when the show first aired, rank our favorite seasons, sing some songs, and celebrate the culmination of this crazy journey!
It's a magical night for an awards show! The OC Men each compile their own top five episodes of The O.C. Together with lists submitted by listeners, they set out to compile the definitive list of the top episodes of The O.C.!
The OC - Season 4 Wrapup. The OC Men sit down to chat about the final season of their beloved show. They discuss the highs and lows of a very divisive season. They also bring up every dumb running gag that has popped up over the course of the podcast.
Bluebell goes full Pawnee with a disaster preparedness drill, George & Lemon try to bring back the magic with a whipped cream bikini (but only on her head), and Zoe may run to Boston with her dad Lumburgh after she accidentally explodes Rose's appendix. We also find out it takes two OC Men to do the work of one Hart Chick, as Russell & Jamie sub in for Eliza Jo. Come for the work appropriate mustache rides; stay for the new Tweeter end zone dance. You know what I call it? The new Tweeter end zone dance.
The O.C. Season 3, Episode 16 - "The Road Warrior": Life is a highway, and Ryan's going to ride it all night long. Sadie and Ryan hit the road, with flirty results! Meanwhile Seth, Summer, and Taylor try and interfere in their parents' love lives. All while this is happening... Dark Sandy emerges. The OC Men talk about the episode in the middle of a thunderstorm, so get ready to be lulled to sleep, ASMR-style!
In this mini-mini-sode, the chicks play matchmaker. Which OCMen host would date which Hart of Dixie bachelor? 2 minutes of sheer, unadulterated fanfiction. You're welcome.
The OC Men watch Season 3 Episode 9 of The OC: "The Disconnect". Last week we wrapped up the story about Johnny's obsession with Marissa, so this week we get a story about Johnny's obsession with Marissa. Hooray! Also, Seth acts like a doofus when Summer is discovered to be smart. Also, Ryan gets a lap dance from Sipowicz!
The OC Men watch Season 3, episode 8 of The O.C.: "The Game Plan". It's 4th and long for high school, and it's time to decide what's going to happen next year. Will Seth make it across the country? Will Ryan be the first Atwood to make it to college? Will Marissa go to college or instead be a surfing label rep? There should be more sports metaphors here, but I'm the wrong person to be writing them.
Things are back to normal for The OC Men as we dive into Season 3 of The OC with episode 1: "The Aftermath". In hopes of putting the past behind them and before school starts, the core four enjoys a wonderful romp on the beach. Ryan does a spot on impression of Summer and then everyone carries each other around. Also Kirsten makes a new dumb friend! We also continue our campaign for OC&D where all rolls are failing, so Summer and Marissa can't seem to do anything right.
The OC Men somehow make their television obsession even nerdier: by creating their own role playing game based around The OC they've dubbed: "OC&D". In what will eventually be a segment at the end of future episodes, we decided to create a mini episode in the form of a "pilot" for our extended story. The core four are headed on a weekend-long camping adventure, but something doesn't seem right. Ominous stories of missing dogs, familiar faces showing up out of the blue, and... how come so many people are wearing the same outfit? The OC Men put on their best (worst) fake voices and create their own, surreal OC episode.
We made it! The OC Men take a long look back at Season 2 of The O.C. in the first part of our season recap. Which of the new characters did you hate the least? Which of the adults made the least worst life decisions? Is Trey a cautionary tale about what could have been for Ryan, or does he just represent the creators' fear of poor people? Is it ok to call someone white trash? We don't get to the bottom of anything, but we have a great time getting there.
Everything is terrible! Kirsten is drinking. Trey is creeping. Caleb is divorcing. Seth is coniving. Zach is still the worst. Can Ryan and Marissa survive all this insanity? Also, no one wants to eat anyone's breakfasts! The OC Men watched The O.C. episode "The Showdown"
Trey steals an egg! Zach and Seth restart the comic! The OC Men watched "The Risky Business" and tried to understand the references while not having actually seen the movie. Special guest @JeskuhBS stops by to help us enjoy this silly episode.
The OC Men are going down in a blaze of glory as we watch Ryan try to build a horse only to burn it down with Marissa. Julie uses Ryan as a Trojan Horse to get Marissa to come home, using his Achilles Heel of having to help women. We watched The O.C. episode S02E16, "The Blaze of Glory"
Hallelujah, it's raining Cohens! The O.C. is set upon by a rare rainstorm, and it serves to cleanse the show of a number of straggling storylines. Rebecca! Summer! Kirsten! Julie! Alex! All the women get to move along in their storyline after spinning their wheels the last few episodes. The OC Men - with special guest Jaleh - watched S02E14 of The O.C., "The Rainy Day Women"
Seth can't stop thinking about S-E-X and Sandy continues to dig himself deeper. Caleb seems to turn over a new leaf in an offer to adopt Lindsay. The OC Men watched The O.C. episode S02E13, "The Father Knows Best" (aka "The Test" for some reason?)
The OC Men watch "The Lonely Hearts Club" and try to decide where to cringe harder: Seth at the comic book pitch or Sandy screwing up Valentine's Day.
'Twas the night before Chrismukkah and all through the land, Caleb's been hiding a baby unplanned. Ki-ki has hid in the closet from all, shortly after smashing a vase on the wall. Our second visit to the most sacred of holidays, this Chrismukkah is almost ruined when family secrets are revealed. Will Summer be able to save the day? Will Lindsay make enough Yama-clauses for everyone? The OC Men watched The O.C. S02E06, "The Chrismukkah That Almost Wasn't" to find out!
Everything that happened last episode happens again this episode. Seth is obsessed with Summer! Summer is obsessed with Seth! Marissa looks at the ocean! Ryan and Lindsay flart! But by the end we're promised a ... NEW ERA! The OC Men watched S02E04 of The O.C., "The New Era"
Seth attempts to say "Please Don't Go Girl" to Summer by getting her some Walkmen tickets. Ryan is "Hangin' Tough" in Physics class despite not getting along with his new partner. Sandy is taking it "Step By Step" on his quest to free Caleb. The OC Men watched S02E03 of The O.C., "The New Kids On The Block", and are certainly *INSERT SONG TITLE PUN HERE*
Everybody apologizes except the one guy who needs to apologize the most. Ryan and Seth finally have a reckoning for flying the coop over the summer as we realize things can't just go back to where we left off at the end of last season. Our favorite contractor Archie can't seem to finish the Cohen's house, and Caleb can't seem to avoid going to jail. We also get to meet delightful dreamboat and comic fan Zack. The OC Men watched Season 2, Episode 2 of the The O.C., "The Way We Were".
You want to know what's in this episode? AHHHHHHHHHHH! The OC Men jump straight into season 2 to find out how the gang is going to get back to status quo after the season one finale shakeups. Ryan needs to decide where he actually calls home. Through it all they get help from a surprising amount of sexy men with no shirts... and the greatest guest star of all time. We watched The O.C. Season 2 episode 1, "The Distance"
The OC Men continue to celebrate the end of Season 1 of The O.C. by discussing more about the show as a whole. They discuss what makes good drama, good romance, and continue talking about some favorite other shows. We also feature fan stories from Questionable Viewing Habits Podcast, Comicbookgirl19, @JeskuhBS, @jaleh_f, and our good friend Becca!
The OC Men celebrate conquering their first season with a look back at the Season as a whole. They discuss Josh Schwartz's career and what makes a favorite show. Does Russell even have a favorite show? Will JT ever appreciate the Simpsons? Find out this and more as we celebrate The O.C. season 1!
Finally (momentarily?) free from the relationship drama of Oliver and Theresa, Ryan and Marissa are excited to avoid some drama for a change. A clean slate! This of course doesn't last through the opening credits, as a startling secret is exposed. We get a great road trip episode as the core-four heads to LA for TV star Grady Bridges' birthday. What excitement is in store for them at the Luna-Chicks strip club? The OC Men watched Season 1, Episode 22 of The OC, "The L.A." to find out! Also, the adults have a meatloaf party. Alternate Titles for this episode: - Tabula-Rissa - Live, OC, Repeat - Heavy-Meta
DON'T INSULT JOURNEY. We say goodbye to girls in another badly-titled episode. The OC Men rejoice at the potential end to two love triangles, and Russell and JT say "Schwifty" a lot. We watched "The Goodbye Girl" so you didn't have to!
The epic Oliver saga comes to a much-needed conclusion, and for the love of God will someone have Seth make a decision already? Summer's favorite comic book - Betty and Veronica - unlocks some interesting ideas about the nature of Anna and Summer's character dynamic. It's not all highbrow on The OC Men, though, so don't worry. There's some fart jokes, too.
Furthering the trend from last episode, everyone is still acting like a maniac as the Oliver arc continues. We're introduced to the wonderful and hilarious Danny, whose subtle wit and gentle demeanor make everyone laugh. Meanwhile, Ryan makes a series of boneheaded decisions and Marissa is still oblivious to everything. Seth still can't make up his mind. Julie gets a job. Only Luke has the right idea of enjoying the sublte humor of Danny. The OC Men watch S01E17 of the OC, "The Rivals". This episode is "flawlruss"
It's New Years Eve in The O.C. and things are going bananas. We finally get a full-dose of punchable-villain Oliver, Ryan learns to say "I love you", long-lost sisters appear, and Sandy and Kirsten swing their way into an exciting 2004. At the end of this episode we're visited by a special guest! Josh Hatfield, co-host of the Portland CA Podcast, tells us why "The Countdown" is his favorite episode. The OC Men watch Season 1 Episode 14 of The O.C. titled "The Countdown".
Yogalates! Yogalates! Yogalates! Ryan and Luke - forced to work together for a report on the Spanish Inquisition - make a shocking discovery! The OC Men watch Season 1 Episode 12 of The OC, "The Secret". Yogalates.
Come for the drama, stay for the Dikembe Mutombo impressions. The OC Men watch Season 1, Episode 10 "The Perfect Couple" as Ryan tries to plan his first date with Marissa.
The "Evil Julie" episode! The gang deals with the fallout of their Mexican shenanigans from last episode. The OC Men watch Season 1 Episode 8 of The OC, "The Rescue", where we try and deal with the fact that it's been two episodes with no party planning!
The OC Men discuss Donnie's Gun and who his new Girlfriend is.
Donnie's got a gun! The OC Men check out Season 1 Episode 5 of The O.C., "The Outsider". Learn all about how everyone that is poor is secretly dangerous!
The OC Men look back at the Debut and forward to the Outsider!
This episode is giving us sausage arms. OC Men investigate episode 4 of The O.C., "The Debut". We get to learn about Ana from Pittsburgh, Ryan has a terrible looking thumb, and Jimmy gets punched in the face!
Halfway between episodes two and episodes three the OC Men venture into the mailbag and decide to get meta by talking about the one show that talks about the other show.
OC Men take a gamble on Season 1 Episode 3 of The O.C. Will Ryan's Mom stick around for the big gambling night? Will Seth continue to be creepy towards Summer? Will Luke keep being a bro? Only one way to find out!
The OC Men talk about the ramifications of episode 2 of the OC and what's to be expected from episode 3! We also need feedback from you the listener!
The OC Men watch the episode "The Model Home" and talk fancy literary theories
The premier episode where the OC Men tackle the pilot episode of The OC
