,,Zelfs de wc-bril was verdwenen.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Send us your thoughts! The members of all-star family jazz band The 3 Cohens — featuring Anat Cohen (clarinet), Avishai Cohen (trumpet) and Yuval Cohen (soprano saxophone) — have always taken time out from their ever-burgeoning careers as soloists and bandleaders to reconvene for music-making together. The siblings developed a deep musical bond growing up in Tel Aviv, with improvising together becoming second nature for them. The 3 Cohens recorded four studio albums over a decade: 2003's One, 2007's Braid, 2011's Family and 2013's Tightrope, with the last three released by Anzic Records, the indie label founded by Anat with kindred-spirit producer-collaborator Oded Lev-Ari. DownBeat put The 3 Cohens — with Anat the middle child to the elder Yuval and younger Avishai — on the cover of its January 2012 issue, hailing the trio's “chemistry, alchemy, telepathy.” Ten years on from that milestone, the 3 Cohens reunited for a live collaboration with Germany's lauded WDR Big Band (a Köln-based ensemble that has been performing jazz on West German Radio since 1957); the program showcased tailormade arrangements by Lev-Ari of compositions by himself and each member of The 3 Cohens, as well as two of their favorite classics: Gerry Mulligan's “Festive Minor” and the Louis Armstrong hit “Tiger Rag.” The performance was recorded for a very special live album, Interaction. Support the show

Send us a textFew wine experiences linger in memory as vividly as a day spent at Elvi Wines and Clos Mesorah in Montsant and Priorat Spain. My wife Sara and I had the privilege of an extraordinary visit — a masterclass in hospitality and winemaking — hosted by Moises and Anna Cohen. The rain, relentless throughout the day, provided a dramatic backdrop to what turned out to be one of the most enriching vineyard experiences I've ever encountered.Nestled in the Montsant hills, Clos Mesorah is a gem of a winery. Moises Cohen, a scientist from Casablanca, Morocco. At the age of 17, he moved to Israel to study agricultural engineering at the Technion in Haifa and later ended up in Catalonia, Spain, working in agriculture and water management. “This new vineyard is the labratory I always wanted, it really brings together both of my passions,” Cohen mused. What struck me most about our nearly seven-hour visit was the passion and warmth of the Cohen family. Moises, whose expertise lies in viticulture and biodynamics, is as captivating as the vineyards he tends. But the true revelation of the day was Anna Cohen, originally from Toulouse, France, an artist and qualified sommelier. Soft-spoken yet fiercely knowledgeable, Anna's winemaking is the soul of Elvi. Her mastery shines through in every glass, her meticulous approach translating into wines that are as complex as they are elegant. While she doesn't speak English, her passion and artistry transcend language barriers.Moises & Anna's curated tasting lineup was nothing short of extraordinary, offering a glimpse into the evolution and potential of Elvi Wines. Here are the highlights:2018 Clos Mesorah SublimThis wine is a bold evolution for the brand. The heavy oak on the nose lends itself to layers of ripe black and red fruit, sweet vanilla, and warming spices. The oak is very apparent, both in the nose and taste. The palate is rich and velvety, with acidity tempering the opulence, making it a wine that has a long way to go. As it opened up over several hours, the integration of flavors became a revelation. Sublim is aptly named — a wine that promises greatness with time. I'm excited to see where it goes.2021 Clos MesorahThis latest vintage of the flagship Clos Mesorah is a tour de force. The blend of Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah offers an exquisite balance of ripe fruit, earthiness, and a touch of umami. Clos Menorah has unique nose, with overripe blackberry forward. Assertive tannins and bright acidity make this wine both approachable and age-worthy. Still young, can't wait to taste it as it ages in the bottle.2014 Clos Mesorah (Vertical Tasting)The vertical tasting of the 2014 and 2022 vintages highlighted the evolution of Clos Mesorah. The 2014 has softened with time, revealing a mosaic of dried fruit, smoke, and earth. It's a wine that whispers its story rather than shouts it, showcasing the rewards of patience.2022 Siblings by MesorahThis wine is extremely approachable, even now. Designed and created by Cohen siblings David and Leah, this mevushal wine blends accessibility with sophistication. I would call it a young Clos Menorah, still boasting a lot of that same dark black fruit and a tinge of umami. Crafted from Grenache and Carignan, it offers bright fruit flavors and a fresh finish, making it a versatile choice for both casual dining and celebrations, think of it as a sophisticated simcha wine.As the rain poured outside, the warmth of the Cohens' hospitality enveloped us. The tasting extended late into the evening, followed by a cozy dinner filled with laughter and conversation. If you're inSupport the showEmail your questions and comments to kosherwinepodcast@gmail.com

There is a crack, a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in», singt Cohen im Lied «Anthem»: Es sei ein Bruch, ein Knacks in allem, - auf diese Weise kommt das Licht hinein. His parents—two Israeli doctors who came to Canada for specialized training—say they initially tried to enrol their four children in private Jewish schools while they were in Canada, but eventually decided to send them to public school so the kids could to learn about Canadian diversity. But after Oct. 7, they say they have been complaining in vain to Toronto school officials—and also to Toronto police—about the atmosphere of Jew-hatred impacting both Eitan and his younger brother Hillel, who also attended the same school. Toronto's police confirm the hate crime unit is now actively investigating one incident from last week, alongside two other investigations that remain open. The Cohens are already making plans to return to Israel and Eitan could have switched to a Jewish religious school until the end of June. But he won't quit: if he leaves now, he says, it will mean open season for bullies to ramp up antisemitic attacks on other Jewish students who attend public schools in Toronto. On today's episode of The CJN Daily, Ellin Bessner sits down at the home of Eitan and his parents, Moshe Cohen and Adi Halberthal Cohen, to find out what safety plans are in place for this week—and why they went public with their struggles. What we talked about: Learn more about the Toronto Jewish community accompanying the Cohen family to school on Friday May 17, 2024, in The CJN. I'm a champion of people getting back out in the world and connecting ‘in person'. It matters. That's how relationships get made, right? Life is easier with people you trust. The more you know about somebody authentically, the more apt you are to trust them. And you never know who knows who.  We all lost a lot in the category of relationships as a result of the pandemic induced virtual world, we now live in. To change it back up for myself, I'm now on a personal mission to reconnect with people I like ‘in person'. I'm known to be fun, and I like to make my interviews fun. People share more when they're comfortable and having a good time.    I have the pleasure of broadcasting my live radio show from the studios of WGCH radio in Greenwich Ct., a town known worldwide for its beauty, location, amenities and well-run government. Founded in 1640, it's one of the oldest towns in the United States, home to many multigenerational families and has been a worldwide destination for over a century.  I've known my engineer Bob for decades and we work well together and produce high level content that gets heard around town, around the country through the digital livestream and around the world through podcasting.  During the pandemic, I started to work from home and do my radio show remotely. I got used to broadcasting from my house sometimes in my pajamas and got a little lazy about returning to the studio. But there's nothing like ‘live' in-studio energy, and so I'm back and trying some new ‘in studio' things.  Fred Camillo, who's the First Selectman of Greenwich (their version of a mayor) also has a show on this radio station. I'd always enjoy running into him except he'd bring his big dog who would scare the hell out of me because I'm scared of big dogs so our conversations would always get cut short by me hiding behind a desk.  Fred and I didn't see each other for a while so I decided to invite him to sit in and do my show live without his dog (big dog lovers please forgive me).  I always thought Fred was sweet, but I don't talk politics on my show and didn't know much about him personally. I thought this would be a nice opportunity to have an authentic conversation that others could enjoy too.  I wanted to know about Fred Camillo the guy. A lot of people have said some beautiful things about him as they've have watched him grow up in the area and are proud that he became the guy who's running the show in this very interesting place in the world.  Did Fred want to grow up to be the First Selectman (mayor)?  Nope, found out he wanted to play center field for the Yankees. Sadly, that didn't work out. He also wanted to be Joe Frazier but he was only a lightweight so that didn't work out either.  Fred does works out a lot and he's in great shape. Every morning early, he's out walking his two dogs and he walks to the gym.  Instead of a baseball uniform or boxing shorts Fred's daily uniform is now a suit. How many suits does the First Selectman of Greenwich own? Four. Mostly he wears the dark blue ones (Yankee blue), but he also has a light gray and a dark gray. When he was young, he had a beige one for the summer.  I wondered does Fred ever do like I do, change clothes like Superman did in a phone booth to get from one occasion to the next dressed appropriately? “Rarely but It's happened”.  Does Fred wear cologne? Nope. How about jewelry? Only watches. And a Fitbit to count his steps. (Roughly 20,000 steps a day!) BTW, he wears them both on the same wrist and people always ask why he has two watches.  As a result of his job as First Selectman of Greenwich, CT some weeks Fred's out every single night. But he's really a homebody and loves to hang home and watch sports. Who's his team this year? “I'm still a Yankee fan but I even root for the Mets. The Cohens are great people. They're living in Greenwich.”  Great! I'm a big Met fan lets get him in for an interview.  What about hockey? “I grew up a Ranger fan, but the owners of the Islanders are here in Greenwich, and they are terrific people. Jon Ledecky actually worked here at WGCH in the 70s. He brags about working here. Great! Let's get him in sometime for an interview.  Do you like tennis? “I don't play tennis, but I will watch it once in a while. I grew up watching Jimmy Connors and Chrissy Everett. But I will watch a good match”. What about Pickleball? “We're going to get hopefully four new courts.”  So Fred I asked, “If you're going to the electric chair, what would be your last meal? You get one call, and you can have anything you want” Fred's last meal is going to be a big one. Lots of pasta, probably a couple slices of pizza, Italian cheesecake, gorgonzola salad and a bottle of wine. (Good to know Fred and I could have a lot of fun eating together)  Fred Camillo's father was a marine drill sergeant. The rules in his house growing up included that you had to work so Fred worked every day when he was a kid. For a couple weeks back when he was 8 or 9, he even used to have a little shoeshine box and shined shoes outside a local store. Fred said his drill sergeant father was funny funny guy with a great voice. A crooner, just like Frank Sinatra and for fun Fred and his siblings used to tape him. “But he had a temper”, Fred said, so you had to be careful. Adding, “But it was funny. It was in an era, you know, that things were different. And I kind of miss those days.”  Does Fred remember people's birthdays? Yes. Does he remember people's phone numbers? Yes. He knows at least 25 or 30 peoples phone numbers by heart. Does Fred still have dead people in his phone like I do? Yup, He said, “I think it's about holding on to a memory and it's something that's personal and to erase it, would mean kind of, it's that finality. It's silly, but it's just something that we do.”  I asked Fred another one of my signature questions? What's your genius?” That thing that comes naturally to you that you take for granted.  “Nothing, that's gonna make me any money”, said Fred laughing. “I can tell you the starting line up with the 1978 Yankees. I can tell you who the third string catcher was on the 1961 world champion Yankees. As my father used to say back when soda was cheap, that and 50 cents will get you a soda. I can easily recall Baseball trivia mostly but also a lot of historical stuff. I taught history in high school a long time ago, so I remember dates and numbers.”  Has Fred been on every single block in Greenwich, CT? Probably. Greenwich is the second biggest landmass in the state of Connecticut and yes Fred's been on every street around the 67 square miles, 48 of which are land.  What hasn't Fred Gotten around to doing yet that's still on his bucket list? He hasn't been to Italy. Fred's currently involved with ‘Paws for A Cause', a leukemia fundraiser in honor of his sister Donna Marie who died from leukemia at the age of 11. Sadly, Fred's mother also passed away just six months after his sister at the age of 34. “Unfortunately, said Fred, back in 1968 medicine and science weren't where they are today.”  How many people ask Fred for favors in the course of the day as a First Selectman.  A lot. “When you say favor you mean help, aid, attention to their cause, whatever. And you do what you can do, if it's legal and you're not doing anything that's, you know, against the law or out of order”.  During Fred's day is he more likely to be texting, emailing, or calling somebody? “I'd rather talk to somebody.”  Here's another ‘signature' Debbie Nigro question because I'm aware that everybody has something going on in their head all day long. “How Does Your Head Work Inside? How's it working in there I always wonder? “Well, a lot of people will tell you there's nothing going on”, said Fred. I guess, music. I'll walk out of the gym in the morning, and what was playing usually what I hear in the morning, it stays in my head.” Finally, I wondered does Fred worry about a lot of things? “Oh, yeah, big worrier said FRED.  So how does Fred relax?   “Red wine, but I don't have it every night and watching sports. I'm not a big TV person, but I just started watching the old Sopranos. I wanted to go through the whole thing. So, I'm almost on season five now and that's kind of relaxing. It makes me laugh.   Enjoy this full show podcast of my live 'in person' conversation on The Debbie Nigro Show with Fred Camillo the man, who also happens to be The First Selectman of Greenwich Ct.It was really fun to get to know him authentically.

Daily Emunah Podcast - Daily Emunah By Rabbi David Ashear

Every religious Jew believes b'emunah shelemah that everything comes from Hashem and, deep down, every Jew lives with the feelings that Hashem controls everything. But at times, this belief does not penetrate all of a person's limbs and external feelings. He still worries and fears things other than Hashem. Therefore, he needs to ask Hashem to help him feel with every fiber of his being, at every moment of his life, that whatever is happening to him, every little pleasure that he gets, every bit of success that he has, every little thing that happens that he doesn't want, they are all from Hashem and only Hashem. And no man in this world has any say about anything that goes on. Sometimes people think that Hashem has forgotten about them. Nothing is going their way or they feel they never get a break. Hashem thinks about every person at every moment of the day. He knows exactly what we are going through, and He is leading us to the places we need to be in to fulfill our purpose in this world. When it is the right time to give us something that we want, Hashem will lead us to it in the blink of an eye, without even the help of any other people. The Cohen family had been looking for years to move out of their shoebox apartment into a more spacious place, but since their finances were limited, they had no choice but to keep delaying. Then, another baby was born and they really couldn't fit any more. At that same time, a great opportunity arose. Their neighbor's parents had to move immediately to a ground floor apartment due to health issues and they really wanted to be next to their son, so they offered the Cohens one and a half times the value of their apartment to buy it, and although the Cohens did not have a new place to live in yet, this offer was too great to pass up, so they took it. The deal was they would have to be out in exactly two months, so the next day they began a mad hunt for an apartment, looking through classifieds and visiting various real estate offices. They were told it would be highly unlikely for them to find something and be able to move in within two months. Moreover, most apartments they were being shown were way out of their price range, even with the extra money they were getting. The weeks quickly flew by and they weren't successful in finding anything. With two weeks to go, they had no choice but to start packing up their entire apartment in boxes, having no idea where they were going to live afterward. One night, after Arbit , Rabbi Cohen walked the streets in deep thought. Then, he walked into an empty Bet Midrash , sat down and began crying uncontrollably. He poured out his heart to Hashem, begging Him to grant him and his family a roof over their heads. When he left the Bet Midrash , he suddenly noticed a piece of paper with a For Sale sign on a lamp post. It looked very old, but the basic description of the apartment sounded like exactly what he wanted, so the next day he went to that apartment and knocked on the door. The woman who answered the door said the apartment was definitely not for sale and quickly closed the door. Rabbi Cohen then asked someone in the hallway if he knew of any apartments in the building that were for sale, to which he replied no. Rabbi Cohen felt that he was going to make a fool out of himself by asking, but nonetheless he decided to make one last attempt. He walked up to the next floor, knocked on the door to the left and a tall, distinguished looking man with a dark beard answered. Rabbi Cohen said, “Sorry to bother you, but did you by any chance advertise this apartment as being for sale?” The man said he did not, but min haShamayim , that morning he decided he was going to sell and he explained. The week before he was offered to become the mashgiach of an up and coming yeshiva in Betar. He told them he needed some time to think about it because it would mean uprooting his family and moving there. That morning, he and his wife decided they wanted to accept. “Two hours ago they told me they want me to start Rosh Chodesh Elul, which is less than two weeks away, and they have a temporary apartment for me to move into until I find something there. All that is left for us to do now is pack up and go. But we do need to sell our apartment here.” He invited Rabbi Cohen in to look around. Rabbi Cohen saw that it was perfect and, when he heard the price, he immediately thanked and praised Hashem because it was exactly in his price range. The contract was signed several days later and the Cohens were able to move in just when they had to leave their current apartment. Hashem runs the world. He knows about everyone's needs and takes care of them accordingly. Our job is to feel at ease, knowing that we are always in His hands.
