In this episode of Busted, Michael Thomas and Drew Howell examine the scheme of former Fry's Electronics Vice President of Merchandising, Ausaf Umar “Omar” Siddiqui, and the elaborate way he was able to steal $65 million from the corporation. Through the influence of his executive-level position, Siddiqui was able to pull off an operational arrangement disguised as a cost-eliminating and profit-maximizing plan to the corporation.

In this episode of our "Digital Art Renaissance" series, Concept Artist Omar Siddiqui shares the story of how he was discovered for his first commissioned artworks through social media. Omar guides us on his journey from his first posts 10+ years ago to how he changed his art process, and what it took to get his skills to the next level. Throughout this episode, Omar discusses not just the value of posting on social media which led to his first paid commissions, but also some of the ways to "get over yourself" and simply start sharing. We also discuss the huge transition happening between 2D and 3D and what that might mean for future artists. On top of that, Omar shares some incredibly helpful tips (things that worked for him) on adapting to change. With so many new tools and trends coming out all the time, it can be overwhelming for digital artists to have to constantly learn something new. In fact, Omar had to completely change his art style after 11 years just so he could have relevant industry skills. And beyond developing new art skills, Omar shares why sometimes it can be easy to feel stuck when learning new technology, then explains why goal setting can help you overcome those challenges. Omar Siddiqui is an Environment Concept Artist with experience in 2D and 3D concepts.

Omar Siddiqui is Challenging Dana Rohrabacher, Russia's Favorite Congressman

If you're running for office, it's pretty much guaranteed that a lot of people in your life encouraged you to do so. But few candidates can say that they've been personally encouraged to run by President Barack Obama and FBI Director James Comey. No matter how unlikely, that is the true story of what pushed Omar Siddiqui to jump into the race to unseat Russia's favorite congressman, Dana Rohrabacher. (In November, The New York Times reported that "the Kremlin likes him so much it gave him a code name.") Rohrabacher, who has been in Congress since 1989 and represented four districts during his tenure, is facing fourteen challengers in the open primary for California's 48th. Despite never having been represented by a Democrat before, CA-48 went to Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump in 2016 (but only by a 1.7 point margin). Despite the crowded field, Omar Siddiqui believes that he can pull through and make it to the November general election ballot. Omar joined us on the podcast to discuss his strategy, why diversity is a matter of national security, and the discussions with Barack Obama and James Comey that inspired him to run for Congress.

David Measer of RPA Advertising and Lisa Pecot-Hebert of USC Interview starts at 25:08 and ends at 49:15 I expected the smaller cities in the U.S. to be places where eventually trends made their way there and that they'd be listening to music that I listened to 10 years ago, or wearing fashion that was old. And it wasn't like that at all. These places, cities that I couldn't even identify on a map before I went--Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Fargo, North Dakota; Moorehead, Minnesota; Omaha, Nebraska--were actually places that were thriving in their own way. They really had an identity of their own, and they felt like they were leading the charge. They weren't drafting off of the big coastal cities.
