New York Times bestselling author, Sophy Burnham, recently released her thirteenth book, The Art of Intuition: Cultivating Your Inner Wisdom. During this podcast, Sophy and I focused our discussion on chapter 6 in her book which dealt with the intuition that animals have and animal intuitives / communicators. In addition, we talked about her first experience where she heard her dog, Puck, say, "Wait! Wait for me!". As you can imagine, this was a total surprise to Sophy (as it probably would be to anyone not used to this happening)!

Today, we're covering the original ending of Persuasion, otherwise known as the "Cancelled Chapters." The original Volume 2, Chapter 10 replaces the Chapters 10 and 11 that we ended up with, and the original Chapter 11 is essentially the same as our Chapter 12. The Cancelled Chapters were published posthumously. Anne has just found out Elliot's true nature when she runs into Admiral Croft, who locks her in a room with Wentworth after begging Wentworth to talk to Anne on his behalf. Wentworth reveals that the Crofts are concerned that Anne and Elliot are going to take Kellynch back when they get married. Anne tells him that she and Elliot are not going to be married, and the rest is history. Editor's note: Beacon was created in 1913 from Matteawan and Fishkill Landing. 150 Years Ago (December 1874) John McCabe was carting cook stoves to Matteawan when his horses were frightened by an approaching locomotive. The horses raced along the track and a stove fell off the wagon in front of the engine, which demolished it. Lewis Tompkins, of the Fishkill Landing Hat Works, put down one of his prized brown mares after it broke its leg in the stable. It was valued at $700 [about $19,000 today]. Patrick Murphy, who worked at the Gowdy brickyard near Dutchess Junction, was arrested on assault charges. Murphy was absent when John Gowdy distributed wages and later demanded his $28 [$775]. Gowdy said he did not have the cash on him and Patrick, who was drunk, attempted to take Gowdy's horse. When Gowdy resisted, Murphy punched him. Murphy was fined $25, which he had Gowdy take from his pay, leaving him with $3 [$83]. The Matteawan Manufacturing Co. was making 200 dozen ladies' jockeys every day but was still 150 cases behind filling orders. Two sheep owned by Jacob VanWyck near Fishkill were slaughtered in his field and the meat carried off. James Pettigrove moved from Cold Spring to Fishkill Landing to operate Traver's hotel, which had been damaged by fire on Sept. 3 but restored. Several young men in Matteawan formed a gymnasium society. W.H. Mase of Fishkill Landing sold his trotting horse Mountaineer for $6,000 [$166,000]. A Fishkill Landing milkman said he would sell milk through the winter at summer prices of 6 cents [$1.66] a quart. A Matteawan Free School teacher found in an old history book a handwritten copy of a Thanksgiving sermon preached by the Rev. Samuel Prime on Nov. 23, 1833. [In 1840, the young Presbyterian minister left the village for New York City to become an editor at a Christian newspaper where he worked for the next 45 years.] The Seamless Manufacturing Co. of Matteawan received an order for thousands of skirts, in variety of sizes, including what were thought to be the largest ever made in the U.S.: 5 feet, 7 inches long; 5 feet, 1 inch around the waist; 10 inches around the hip; and 16 inches at the bottom. Mr. and Mrs. David Kniffen, of Fishkill, lost two children - their 5-year-old daughter and 2½-year-old son - in the same week to diphtheria. Their third child, an infant, was not expected to survive. When the Albany Post reported that "Aunt Betty," the last known person enslaved in New York state, had died in Cayuga County at age 99, the Poughkeepsie Press reported that an inmate at the Dutchess County poorhouse was older. He recalled being traded for a barrel of rum. [According to research by the New York State Archives, a woman named Sophy, who died in November 1876 in Cornwall, was likely the last surviving person who had been enslaved in New York.] On a late Saturday night train, a passenger refused to pay the fare. The conductor ordered him off at New Hamburg, but the passenger retreated to the toilet and sat with his back against the door. At Poughkeepsie, a police officer ripped off the door with a crowbar. At 3 a.m. on a Saturday, a fire at John Gerow's brick building in Matteawan destroyed everything inside, including the stock of the Noel & Smith clothing store, Hatche's cigar store and Vosburgh's printing office. Frank Timoney, the brick manufacturer, and an employee, William Doyle, were struck by an express train south of Dutchess Junction. Doyle was killed and Timoney was not expected to survive. [Timoney lived another 29 years.] 125 Years Ago (December 1899) A man who missed the last train at Fishkill Landing for Cold Spring hired a wagon. According to the Matteawan Journal, the driver had been on duty for hours and the passenger had not slept for two days, so both fell sound asleep on the journey along the river road. When the horse reached a trough in the village, it took a drink, turned around and returned to Fishkill Landing. There, the passenger and driver awoke and, confused, ...

Dr. Dre, one of hip-hop's most influential figures, is facing a $10 million lawsuit from his former marriage counselor, Dr. Charles Sophy. The lawsuit accuses Dre of engaging in a sustained campaign of harassment involving threatening texts, intimidation, and homophobic comments. Dr. Sophy, a well-known psychotherapist, was hired by Dre in 2018 to facilitate mediation between Dre and his now-ex-wife, Nicole Young, during their tumultuous divorce. The couple, who had been married for 24 years, finalized their settlement in 2021. However, Dr. Sophy claims that the harassment began roughly 14 months later, taking him by surprise. "Rather than treating the mediation process as an opportunity for healing, [Dre] decided to take his frustrations about the mediation out on Dr. Sophy,” the lawsuit states. Sophy alleges that this was part of a “nearly year-long sustained campaign,” according to documents obtained by *Billboard* and *Rolling Stone*. The lawsuit highlights a specific instance in February 2023 when Dre allegedly sent Dr. Sophy threatening messages. In one text message, Dre reportedly warned the doctor that he would "have to pay" for something he had heard. Sophy states that he was “fearful for his life” following these texts and even felt compelled to wear a bulletproof vest for protection. The lawsuit also claims that Dre sent individuals posing as FBI agents to Dr. Sophy's gated community, allegedly attempting to enter his home under false pretenses. This incident left Dr. Sophy shaken, adding to his concerns for his personal safety. Dr. Sophy further alleges that Dre's threats were based on his sexual orientation, including homophobic rhetoric. According to *Rolling Stone*, one of the text messages from Dre reportedly read, "You're going to have to give me a written apology. If not, I'm moving forward. I'm not playing, trust me." The psychotherapist is not only seeking $10 million for civil harassment but has also filed for a court order prohibiting Dre from contacting him and is requesting a trial. As of now, Dre's legal team has not issued a public response to the lawsuit. Dr. Sophy's lawsuit brings serious allegations against Dre, who has a prominent reputation as a music mogul, producer, and entrepreneur. These claims, if proven, could have significant legal repercussions and impact Dre's public image. USA TODAY reached out to Dre's lawyer for comment on these allegations but has yet to receive a response. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Green Dreamer: Sustainability and Regeneration From Ideas to Life
In this episode, Sophy Banks shares her rich wealth of knowledge, teachings, and experiences about what it means to truly support ourselves and others through both collective and personal traumas. Cultures of individualism often lead us to navigate trauma on our own— without rituals of shared and collective space holding. For some, particularly those who have been victims of oppression, colonialism, and dispossession, the rivers and oceans of grief held within are often too vast and too deep to be carried alone.Join us in this episode as Sophy offers medicine for our souls, asking vital questions about collective grief tending. How do we notice trauma? How do we disrupt ways of managing grief that possibly reinforce systems and cultures of destruction? And what does it mean to truly care for and hold one another through times of darkness and despair?Tune in and subscribe to Green Dreamer via any podcast app, and join us on Patreon for the extended version of this episode.
We last discussed Diversification on this podcast in November 2022, where we looked at the opportunities for landowners to add additional revenue streams to rural property. Inflation was then, and still is, creating a huge amount of risk for rural businesses. Diversification is a way to offset that risk. So, in this episode, host Ellie Savage sits down with Emily and Sophy, creators of Watersedge, a wellness hub near Bishampton, Worcs, to understand how their rural business is thriving. Their story involves the transformation of a family-owned lake into a community-focused wellness centre, with swimming, yoga, paddle boarding and fitness. Listen to find out how they overcame obstacles with planning permission, managing increased visitor numbers and ensuring safety and insurance compliance. Their diversification journey, guided by Ellie and the team at Fisher German, is a blueprint for managing risk and opening up new revenue streams. How do we help people keep their jobs and livelihoods alongside the pressure to move to an environmentally friendly and sustainable future? It's been estimated that 1.3 million jobs in the UK could be affected by the drive to get to net zero emissions - many in traditional industries such as steelmaking. Sophy Ridge presents this episode with Sky News' people and politics correspondent Nick Martin whose reporting has been focusing on Port Talbot in south Wales where thousands are employed in the steel industry. Plus, following severe turbulence on a London to Singapore flight where one passenger, a 73-year-old British man died, "likely from a heart attack" and more than two dozen injured, Sophy speaks to pilot and aviation consultant Tim Atkinson about how commercial pilots plan for, and deal with, turbulence. We're joined by Scott Linder, one of the Founders and Operating Partners behind Matū, which just might be my favorite steakhouse in all of Los Angeles. Matū is famous for its dedication to serving only the highest quality grass-fed wagyu beef. But that's not all - as they were getting ready to launch the restaurant, Scott and his fellow founders spent a ridiculous amount of time nailing down all of the variables that go into preparing the product correctly, and serving it up in a way that leads to maximum flavor and satisfaction. Scott joins us to talk all things beef, but also how he got into the position of being the culinary mind behind all that Matū has to offer. He tells us about his love for Iron Chef, his time spent traveling the world as the private chef to an A-list celebrity famous for doing their own stunts, and how one fateful afternoon with Jerry Greenberg led him to moving to Los Angeles and betting it all on beef. Of course, I couldn't let him leave without asking him about Matū's legendary Philly Cheesesteak. How did they come up with it, and what makes it so damn irresistible? But first, a few things that caught my eye. Iran is a key player in the Middle East – the country supports extremist Islamic groups across the region, notably the Houthis in Yemen, and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Following UK airstrikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen last week, defence secretary Grant Shapps on Monday gave a major speech on his vision for UK defence, when he said the government would "consider" further action against the group in the Red Sea if needed. On this edition of the Sky News Daily, lead politics presenter Sophy Ridge looks into Iran's position as allies of the group - and the country's play for power in the Middle East. Sophy is joined by Rob Macaire, former Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran from April 2018 to July 2021. Plus, more analysis from defence and security analyst Professor Michael Clarke. W/C 4th December 2023So many links to point you toward this week that there is hardly any space for the actual notes themselves, so I thought I would drop them in as little CTAs along the way.Let's start with the majestic Doctor Who and the incredible episode from last Saturday which is called Wild Blue Yonder you can find here if you leave in the UK. On the subject of the 14th incarnation I am rather taken by the new Sonic but I am resisting it for the time being. The Sophy & Sam clip around the possible date of the next election is here and if you don't follow either of them on x then maybe you should. The Thea Gilmore song is Cutteslowe Walls and you can read a little about them hereYou can watch the Stephen Timms intervention in the DWP debate here and the letter from Michael Rycroft to Pritti Patel can be read on the Government websiteStay safe.Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor) - Robert PalmerTherapy For Me (or TFM as I now refer to it) is a bit of an audio curiosity. It started out as a mechanism for me to clear my head, with the hope that by saying stuff out loud it would act as a little bit of self-help. It's remains loose in style, fluid in terms of content and raw - it's a one take, press record and see what happens, affair. If you want to keep in touch with TFM and the other stuff I do then please follow me on Facebook, Insta, Twitter or Patreon. Thanks for getting this far.

How do good people create systems of oppression? What is Health? What is unHealth? And how do we move from the latter to the former in ways that mean good people create systems of co-creation, inter-being and connection? This week, we explore all these questions with Sophy Banks, Founder and Lead Facilitator of Healthy Human Culture. This week's guest is a remarkable woman who was one of the shining lights amongst those who came to teach us at Schumacher college, before the pandemicSophy Banks has been an engineer, a footballer, and a therapist. She was deeply involved in the Transition movement from its inception, finding ways to balance inner and outer work, to keep heart-focused in a world where a lot of outward-focused action can so easily lead to burnout. I met Sophy as she was moving away from that role, moving into Inner Transition as a new movement and also working deeply with Grief Tending workshops inspired by her time with Sobonfu and Patrice Malidoma Some from Burkino Faso. That was back in 2017 and clearly the world has moved on since then and Sophy has moved with it. She is now Founder and Lead Facilitator of the Healthy Human Culture movement where she brings together the deep learning and experience of the past decades in a system of online learning journeys and other workshops which offers a vision for a world in which societies, communities, workplaces, families and individuals can thrive. It's a journey of healing and understanding and exploration and it feels absolutely core to where we are going, could go, need to go as people and as a culture. It is always an honour, a delight, and a deeply thought-provoking, moving experience to talk with and learn from Sophy. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
