Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, shares insights on his father's political journey, the challenges faced due to alleged persecution by the current government, and the implications of recent elections. Eduardo highlights the parallels between Brazil and the United States, particularly regarding freedom of speech, economic policies, and the influence of foreign powers like China in Latin America. Later, former Congressman Dana Rohrabacher shares his extraordinary journey from serving alongside Ronald Reagan to fighting with the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan. Dana reflects on his new memoir, revealing surprising insights and pivotal moments from his career. He draws parallels between the transformational leadership of Ronald Reagan and President Trump, discussing how both mobilized the American people during challenging times. Finally, Alireza Jafarzadeh, Deputy Director, National Council of Resistance of Iran discusses the ongoing challenges posed by the Iranian regime, particularly regarding its funding through proxies and oil sales. Alireza shares insights on the importance of cutting off resources to Iran, the implications of Iraq's political landscape, and the potential impact of peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia on Iran's actions. Remember this shocking story from the 2016 election? The Trump campaign gutted Ukraine aid in the official RNC platform. Today this is mainstream for the GOP, with McConnell folding on Ukraine aid. This is catastrophic for the US and the world. The recent transformation of the GOP into the Party of Putin began gradually, with only a few in Congress, like former Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, who the Kremlin considered an asset, according to the FBI. In 2018, current House Speaker Mike Johnson took tens of thousands of dollars in dark money campaign donations linked to a Russian oligarch close to Putin who was part of the larger Kremlin operation exposed in the Mueller Report. The oligarch is Konstantin Nikolaev, who bankrolled Kremlin spy/GOP honeypot Maria Butina, who was arrested as part of the Mueller investigation, after pretending to be in love with NRA/GOP operative Paul Erickson. After Mike Johnson got caught taking donations linked to Nikolaev and other Russians (Oops!), he gave it back. But it was part of a wider operation used by the Russians in countries around the world to entrench their power in, known as “the golden handcuffs.” Johnson blames other extremists in his party, like concentration camp guard Marjorie Taylor Greene, for "slowing down" Ukraine aid. They're not slowing down aid; they're blocking it, to help their financial backers in the Kremlin win. Johnson and Trump are part of the Kremlin's long game. They develop their assets, then spread their influence deeper and deeper. This began with a few fringe people, like Rohrabacher. Now it's mainstream. This is state capture. What happens if we lose our country? No place is safe. If you think things are bad now, the entire world will be forced to live under the Kremlin's mafia state: violence and terror win, deciding everything. No more laws and elections. Many Republicans watched in shock as the Kremlin hijacked their party. But it was Republican operations, like Citizens United, that helped Russian dark money entrench the Kremlin's influence in the United States. More Americans must wake up that the loss of Ukraine is also the loss of our democracy. What's happening in Ukraine and the U,S. is an ongoing crime of state capture. The KGB-style operation started decades ago with Trump as a Russian asset. Where will we be if we and our institutions don't stop it? Call your rep in Congress today to demand aid to Ukraine (202) 224-3121! This week's bonus episode includes Andrea sharing her own stories of navigating the misogynistic labyrinth of Hollywood, and why, despite some big wins for women and representation (Yay Lily Gladstone and America Ferrera! Boo for no Fantasia nomination for The Color Purple!), why the Barbie Oscar snub matters. Olga Lautman, a Russian mafia expert and the co-host of the Kremlin Files podcast, continues her conversation with Andrea about what America will look like if Trump, and Putin, win the 2024 election. *** Mark your calendars! Tristan Snell, the prosecutor who led New York State's case against Trump and Trump University and the author of "Taking Down Trump: 12 Rules for Prosecuting Donald Trump by Someone Who Did It Successfully," will join Andrea for a live-taping of Gaslit Nation for our community of listeners on February 12 at noon ET. RadioPublic|LibSyn|YouTube|Patreon|Square Cash (Share code: Send $5, get $5!) It’s finally Friday! That’s the day when Ian Reifowitz joins David Waldman for the first half of KITM! Buy Ian’s latest book, “How Rush Limbaugh's Race-Baiting Rhetoric on the Obama Presidency Paved the Way for Trump”. Ian has never allowed his work to be censored or expurgated, so you can rest assured that all of Ian’s cusses have been left verbatim. Donald Trump is racist to his core. Trump’s insults are racist, his compliments are racist, and Ian is tired of having his patriotism disparaged along with his heritage. Joe Biden showed Trump how town halls are done last night. Bill O’Reilly attributes Biden’s success to Joe’s photographic memory. In fact, many Republicans believe Democrats have been rigging the system for years by running smart people for office. Olivia Troye, former homeland security adviser and lead staffer on the White House's coronavirus task force, realized she couldn’t dig the US out as fast as Donald Trump could bury it, so now she’s endorsing Joe Biden. Betsy Devos’s former chief of staff has joined a group of anti-Trump Republicans as an adviser. At least 15 Trump officials do not hold their positions lawfully, like that matters. Jared Kushner is as sociopathic as any Trump, taking control of the US coronavirus response to make certain there wasn’t any US coronavirus response. Everyone from foreign governments to federal contractors are directed to line Trump pockets—sometimes without even knowing it. A payroll company owned by Rudy Giuliani got a couple hundred thousand in taxpayer-backed emergency small business loans without bother to have any employees. The top 1% of Americans have taken $50 trillion from the bottom 90%. Jeff Bezos could give each of his employees around $100 thousand from the extra profit he made since the pandemic. Russian asset Dana Rohrabacher offered Julian Assange a pardon if he covered up Russian links to hacking emails from the Democratic National Committee. Got some extra time this weekend? Explore some limitations to the the International Criminal Court’s ability to charge the Trump administration in contempt via Article 70 of the Rome Statute.
Back closer to normal rhythm and let's get to some political headlines from the day. I cover the on-going manipulations and undermining conducted by the GOP to our national election security, the Russian strategy's origins in Aleksandr Dugin, Facebook's unwillingness to fix anything because it might "hurt" the conservatives, the backroom deal offered to Julian Assange by Dana Rohrabacher in an effort to make some of the dirt go away, the appointment of a truly unqualified individual to be "Acting" Director of National Intelligence, the White House finally admitting that tariffs actually hurt the economy (though they half-assed it, the DoD's Inspector General report that showed $876 million in contracts went to ineligible companies, Florida's GOP facebook pages being managed by someone out of Turkmenistan and the strangeness of that, the Florida GOP's failed attempt at further preventing felons from voting despite the amendment that the citizens passed, how it took a Federal judge to order the CBP to treat refugees as fucking human beings and to stop acting like Nazis and finally Mango Mussolini's xenophobic old-man rant against the movie Parasite (despite, of course, never having seen it). On this episode of “Political Misfits,” hosts Bob Schlehuber and Jamarl Thomas break down the good, the bad and the ugly of the Nevada debate. American democracy for once was the winner, as billionaire Mike Bloomberg found he’d bought his way onto a stage he was in no way prepared for. Elizabeth Warren came out swinging and seemed to even intimidate the moderators, Sanders stayed on message and did what he needed to to stay ahead, and Buttigieg and Klobuchar struggled. Bob and Jamarl were joined in the second hour by Tom Luongo, independent analyst on politics, culture and markets at his blog, “Gold Goats 'n Guns,” to talk about Roger Stone’s 40-month sentence and the strange new twist in Julian Assange’s extradition case, allegedly involving US President Donald Trump, now-former Republican congressman Dana Rohrabacher, and the possibility of a presidential pardon. Assange’s lawyers and Rohrabacher differ on whether and how this pardon was supposedly offered. The real question, as Assange awaits his extradition hearing next week, is how this new wrinkle will affect that outcome. Bob, Jamarl and Tom also discussed the possibility that the US Justice Department is headed toward changing Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which protects companies like Facebook, Google, Twitter and others from most liability involving content posted by users. With once-scrappy new companies now dominating the tech and media landscapes, how should societies achieve a truly diverse digital commons and who should be held accountable for the content within it? The evolution of technology and finance was also the focus of discussion with Chris Garaffa, who joined the misfits for the weekly Trends with Benefits segment to discuss Patreon’s shift to bank and financer of creators. Patreon’s new capital arm, which offers loans to creators based on their Patreon earnings, may make financing more creative, but it also further commodifies the internet and the creativity it facilitates. Finally, Boeing came in for a scolding about its still-sloppy production practices, as revealed by a recent story.

Former Assemblyman Dennis Mangers was elected to represent Orange County's AD73 in 1976 - swept to power in the Democratic wave that followed Watergate. The district reverted to form four years later when Mangers lost his seat to Republican Nolan Frizzelle. The district voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 - the first Dem presidential candidate to capture Orange County since FDR - and this month elected Democrat Harley Rouda to replace Dana Rohrabacher in congress. We sat down with Mangers to chat about the changes that have turned Orange County blue (or maybe purple) and about life after elected office. These days Mangers is an adviser to Sacramento mayor Darrell Steinberg and is busy supporting the Dennis Mangers Fund for Young Performing Artists.

Many of those stranded are poor people who have bedridden family, no car, or no money to leave. Meanwhile, coal ash ponds are overflowing into neighborhoods and there’s been flooding around the animal excrement disposal ponds known as CAFOs as well. Monday’s regular segment Technology Rules with Chris Garaffa is a weekly guide on how monopoly corporations and the national surveillance state are threatening cherished freedoms, civil rights and civil liberties. Web developer and technologist Chris Garaffa joins the show. In July, California Professor Christine Blasey Ford confidentially accused Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault via the Washington Post tip line and in a letter to her congressperson. After delays and a series of leaks, the story came out without a name or many details, and Ford decided to speak out despite the consequences that victims of assault often suffer by talking about it publicly. What does this tell us about prep school culture, assault in the highest echelons of power, and whether Kavanaugh’s nomination will be blocked? Brian and John speak with Heidi Boghosian, the executive director of the A. J. Muste Memorial Institute and the former executive director of the National Lawyers Guild. President Trump last week signed an executive order that would allow the intelligence community to determine whether or not there was foreign interference in a US election, and it sets out punishments for that interference. But what does “interference” mean? And there is nothing to indicate that the US will stop interfering in the elections of other countries. Dan Kovalik, a human rights and labor lawyer who is the author of “The Plot to attack Iran,” joins the show. A Democratic political action committee in California is targeting vulnerable Republican Rep. Two very different views of the world from two of Southern California's most outspoken members of Congress. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach) and Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) join Elex Michaelson for "The Issue Is:" on FOX 11 Los Angeles. Rohrabacher claims that the hack of the Democratic National Committee wasn't carried out by Russia but instead was an "inside job." He says Russia's meddling in the U.S. election is equivalent to the U.S. meddling in Russia's election. Rohrabacher says all migrants trying to cross over the border should be turned around. He says amnesty shouldn't be provided to anyone who came to the country illegally, including the DREAMers. Lieu says Rohrabacher's views aren't in line with the constitution or the facts. The two find areas of agreement, though. And each play our "personal issues" game where we learn about their lives away from politics. ---------- The Issue Is: with Elex Michaelson is California's only statewide political show, broadcast from FOX 11 Studios in Los Angeles. WARNING: EXPLICIT LANGUAGE IS RAMPANT IN THIS EPISODE The show opens with chants of "build that wall" as heard at the Huntington Beach City Council meeting. Mike and Torya then breakdown the circus that is back in town. The last time we saw them was in Los Alamitos (Episode 74 and 75), but thi s time they are joined by a new clown. That clown's name is Dana. Mike talks about Supervisor Todd Spitzer and how his comments are leading to vigilante justice against the homeless. That's why they are not going to reveal the actual names of the circus members. At the same time, public officials can and will be named. They play the words of Congressman Dana Rohrabacher. Torya thinks it is crap that he not only went first, but got an entire extra minute to speak. Mike says they were simply trying to show him the respect his position deserves. Under Sheriff Barnes spoke after Dana. He supported the idea of opting out of the sanctuary city laws. Mike says that he is also annoyed that Dana was granted longer time than the rest of the people who spoke and that is wrong. Mission Viejo Guy is the next person they talk about. The guy allegedly rode a bike from Mission Viejo to Huntington Beach. It is a 35 minute drive with no traffic in a car and is 39 miles. Guy From the News is the next person they discuss. He goes from meeting to meeting and stirs up trouble at all the meetings he attends. He is clearly there at the behest of someone who wants to remain anonymous. Do you think he sounds a little rehearsed? Our great friend from Los Alamitos was present. She is called Smoker Lady. She is the one who argued with Mike and screamed at him at the end of the Los Alamitos City Council meeting. Torya says she is not a religious person. Her own mother asked her if she burst into flames when she entered church. She has a serious issue with the people who were giving the rabbis a hard time while they spoke. Smoker Lady brought the numbers. She probably had fake numbers, but she brought numbers nonetheless. Mike says she copped out when she said that she wasn't a math expert, easily deflecting any possibility of accepting responsibility for mistakes. Mike discusses how these people see each other as "the opposition". Mike discusses that it is more important to collaborate and not to compromise because compromise infers things were given up. Collaboration means both sides agree to the solution completely. Mike talks about how it seems people just want to win. Finally, Fake Mike Pence sat right next to Mike. They were shocked to see him. Fake Mike Pence had so much crap to say. A little old sweet grandma type told off Fake Mike Pence. To wrap it up, they discuss some positives and negatives taken away from the situation. Mike says one thing that makes the system great is that people are allowed to address their government officials. Another thing Mike sees as positive is just understanding how influential and powerful people can be if they come together around a common cause. Torya says one positive is that the people were educated on the issues. She respects people who took the time to be informed about what they were pissed off about. Mike says that a negative is that when people are empowered, the racists also become emboldened. Torya has two negatives. The first one is they let people talk who were not from Huntington Beach. She disagrees with that. She also doesn't like that people spoke over the top of those who had the floor at the time.
If you're running for office, it's pretty much guaranteed that a lot of people in your life encouraged you to do so. But few candidates can say that they've been personally encouraged to run by President Barack Obama and FBI Director James Comey. No matter how unlikely, that is the true story of what pushed Omar Siddiqui to jump into the race to unseat Russia's favorite congressman, Dana Rohrabacher. (In November, The New York Times reported that "the Kremlin likes him so much it gave him a code name.") Rohrabacher, who has been in Congress since 1989 and represented four districts during his tenure, is facing fourteen challengers in the open primary for California's 48th. Despite never having been represented by a Democrat before, CA-48 went to Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump in 2016 (but only by a 1.7 point margin). Despite the crowded field, Omar Siddiqui believes that he can pull through and make it to the November general election ballot. Omar joined us on the podcast to discuss his strategy, why diversity is a matter of national security, and the discussions with Barack Obama and James Comey that inspired him to run for Congress.
The race for the 48th Congressional District turns into a personal knife fight amongst former friends with former Orange County GOP Chairman Scott Baugh entering the race against his longtime friend Dana Rohrabacher. Feet to the Fire friends talk about implications for the race that has so far only generated headlines on the Democratic side of the aisle.

Veteran White House and investigative reporter Adam Entous of the Washington Post broke two explosive stories over the past week—that President Trump asked two of the nation’s top intelligence officials in March to help him push back against an FBI investigation into possible coordination between his campaign and the Russian government, and, that House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said in a private Capitol Hill conversation captured on audio tape “There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump.” Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia. In this riveting conversation, Entous takes us through the details of his reporting. Recorded March 2nd, US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher returns to share that we see the same societal impact from making cannabis illegal that we saw by making alcohol illegal- it was harmful to our country then as it is now. Representative Rohrabacher notes that he’s interested in inviting AG Sessions in for a discussion with the Cannabis Caucus. He goes on to share where he and his congressional colleagues are with current and future federal legislation including his Respect States Marijuana Laws. Just like Congressmen Blumenauer and Perlmutter did, Congressman Rohrabacher urges us- we the people- especially veterans, religious leaders and seniors- to visit our elected representatives in support of cannabis.

Oregon is smoking hot with job creation, Eugene Monroe wants to smoke down the NFL, get pumped at Power Plant Fitness, Patrick Duffy sells the wrong kind of lettuce, NASDAQ is still anti cannabis, and Dana Rohrabacher likes some cannabis wax.
Cannabis Radio News broke the story of Rep. Dana Rohrabacher admitting to use of a medical marijuana product, recorded Monday morning on Capitol Hill:
International Cannabis Business Conference 2016 coverage continues as Russ Belville speaks with California Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, John W. Lee (director for the Americans For Policy Reform (AFPR) and a proponent of the Marijuana Control, Legalization and Revenue Act of 2016 or MCLR.
Congressman Dana Rohrabacher has been fiercely leading the fight for Medical Marijuana in the halls of our government, and in his mind, it’s just because it’s the right thing to do. He is a man of principle, and a religious person, who believes it would be cruel to deny patients access to cannabis, but furthermore, he thinks it comes down to a basic issue of personal freedom as well. He tells us about he found his way here, from his early years fighting communism in Vietnam and Czechoslovakia, to his political start in the Reagan White House, to his current days as the “surfing congressman.” All in all, he’s lived a life committed to his ideals, and makes for a refreshingly frank politician. We look forward to checking in with him as he continues his work. Enjoy!
