We begin "Turkey Month", only the worst movies out there, with the aptly titled Ozsploitation classic. Set in the dystopian future of 1995, prisoners are hunted by the wealthy elite for their entertainment. Low budget action with high camp craziness. Pop open a cartoonishly large can of beer as we go down under the realm of good taste.
In a GAPECAST inspired by the 1971 Ozsploitation classic Wake In Fright, non-Ilford man John Grant is marooned in the one-horse town of Ilford South after he falls asleep on a train; a place where the only respite from the drudgery of the data mines comes from sinking pint after pint of strong milk, and the only excitement from the occasional cow hunt. Whilst this also sounds idyllic enough, there's a deep, dark underbelly to Ilford South rather like that of a cow itself, which even its revered former MP Mike Gapes may not be fully aware of. Financial corruption at the highest political level. A string of mysterious deaths, as opposed to the normal murders committed by the GG Gang. And then there's the curious case of the Golf Course Ogre, who keeps killing all the cows. John Grant finds himself sucked in by the town's strange magnetism, and gets in deeper and deeper until he's...gaping in fright. Written by FFF/Produced by JFR Additional writing by JFR CAST: JFR as Mike Gapes, John Grant, Luke Akehurst, Gorgeous Georgie, Keith the Barman, Gambler, Second Non-Ilford Man and Ilford South Radio FM DJ FFF as Richard Miller, Jimothy Baker, Shivvonica, Train Conductor and The Swan & Gapes Emcee
This special Howl'o'ween episode starts with an age-old question: are threequels *always* great? No. They are not. But some are! And the Cinesthesia Boys are here to tell you about one. In the bold tradition of Exorcist III, Halloween III, and Godfather III, which are all the very best films from each franchise (don't argue, you look like a fool) we present The Howling III: The Marsupials. Sharpen your fangs, guzzle some blood, and snuggle up in our New Wave natal pouch for a journey through an Ozsploitation legend. Shrimp on the barbie and all that shit! That's not a knife! Mate!!! Join a filmmaker (and sometimes film teacher) and a film teacher (and sometimes filmmaker) as they venture into the dark heart of their own befuddled relationship to culture, the youth, the internet, friendship, love, hate, time, space and, of course: *m*o*v*i*e*s*. Come hear what we see. CINESTHESIA is produced by Iguanodonald Studios and distributed by Split Tooth Media. Music for Cinesthesia is generously provided by the greatest bands that have ever been, The Coctails and Soft Healer. Find Cinesthesia on Twitter and Soundcloud.
Dan and Bradley welcome hilarious nice person / writer of words about Cult Films and Horror Films, The Great Stephanie Crawford on the Show. We were supposed to discuss Ozsploitation films and instead we talk about lots of other stuff including getting lost in Mexico, Ringo Star's short stint into Country Music and burying our pets... we also talk about the films Stunt Rock, Dead End Drive In and Next of Kin. You can find Stephanie Crawford on the Twitters at @scrawfish
Stoner's Guide to Super-Vacuity A series of inscrutable clues leads Ryan, Graham, Sarah and Aidan to "Under the Silver Lake", a film that makes you suspect David Robert Mitchell was definitely one of those kids who played with secret decoder rings as a child. Prepare for disagreements. Off the Shelf kicks off with a very different new release - Adam Shankman's remake (or reboot, or de-Gibsoning), "What Men Want", followed by the Ozsploitation landmark "Next of Kin" - which has been newly released by Second Sight. There isn't a better way to close an episode than with some Jackie Chan, and Eureka have delivered the goods. Anyone fancy some "Wheels on Meals"? Jonny Larkin is joined by our favourite giallo and Italian horror expert Rachael Nisbet to discuss everything from J&B to misogyny and genital mutilation in 'Patrick Still Lives'! From the man who gave us 'Giallo a Venezia', this bizarre riff on an Ozsploitation classic stars our favourite trashy Euro horror queen Mariangela Giordano and is a tale of telekinetic revenge, forbidden lust and blackmail set at a rather familiar-looking palazzo... Spoilers ahead, and the usual filthy humour!
Roughly 97% of the world's deadliest animals are found in Australia. That's why it was originally a penal colony (stop giggling). They just ditched prisoners there and hoped the drop bears and razorbacks and saltwater crocodiles would take care of them. As rambling and shambolic as the living dead we love so much, it’s the Edinburgh Zombie Club podcast! For the first episode we chat about how we got into watching horror cinema and what it is that keeps us coming back for more. There’s also some discussion of the Ozsploitation cinema that we watched back […]
