In this episode, we explore the complex halachic laws of tzad (trapping) on Shabbat, focusing on practical scenarios like a wild animal, a gazelle entering a home, closing and locking doors, and forming human barriers. We also examine cases involving dangerous animals like snakes, and the distinction between intentional and protective actions. Learn how biblical and rabbinic rulings differ when dealing with melacha, joint actions, and safeguarding human life.
A Quiet Place to Kill (aka Paranoia) was the third collaboration between Golden Globe winning American actress Caroll Baker and Italian horror and thriller filmmaker Umberto Lenzi. Baker, disillusioned by the American studio system, moved to Europe in the late 60's with her family and formed a working relationship with Lenzi that spanned four films. In this one she plays Helen, a race car driver reunited with her ex-husband and his new wife -- marital intrugue and a murder plot ensue. Starring with Baker in the Italian/Spanish co-production are Jean Sorel, Anna Proclemer, and Marina Coffa. Dan and Vicky get a little political at the top of the podcast but then turn quickly to some recently seen - The Life of Chuck, The Materialists, Al Pacino starring possession film The Ritual, Hitchcock's 1939 film Jamaica Inn, 1982's Vice Squad, and the Aussie film Dangerous Animals. PUBLIC VERSION. Filmmaker Sean Byrne (THE LOVED ONES, THE DEVIL'S CANDY) joins Adam and Joe to discuss his career journey and the making of his latest feature DANGEROUS ANIMALS - in theaters now! From his fateful decision to walk away from becoming a lawyer and pursue filmmaking instead… to why he is attracted to stories about humans hunting other humans… to what made him respond to Nick Lepard's script for DANGEROUS ANIMALS and why it was important to him to not demonize sharks… to why solid preparation and collaboration is the key to making the best film possible… to how he put the incredible cast together for DANGEROUS ANIMALS and how physically difficult making the film was on all involved… to the choice to shoot most of the film on the open ocean and the close call his team had with a real shark during filming… to how he has been able to score such incredible needle drops for each of his films so far… to why making a horror film requires an understanding of how to execute genres far beyond just horror… to where he drew the line on THE DEVIL'S CANDY before the film actually risked becoming TOO dark… to great advice on how to set character's voices apart in a screenplay and why it's been 10 years since his last feature, Sean is one of our favorite filmmakers working today and this conversation is just fantastic! Mark your calendars for YORKIETHON IX coming July 25th - 27th! Stay tuned to ArieScope.com and patreon.com/TheMovieCrypt for more details!
Shark flicks have become a dime a dozen lately, thanks to stock footage and CGI. But a shark flick where the fish are less dangerous than the human antagonist? Now that's unique! Was it Billy Joel who once said that working too hard could give you a shark attack-ack-ack-ack-ack? Probably not! But in this episode of Certified Forgotten, you will hear Matt Monagle and Matt Donato wax poetic about their love of Sean Byrne's new film, Dangerous Animals. Byrne, the director of modern classics The Loved One and The Devil's Candy, directs Nick Lepard's shark-slash-serial killer movie, and both genres are rarely this fun onscreen.

Things take a turn on the cruise ship when the director tells Stacey she was being “unprofessional,” and to top it off, a guest calls her FAT. Yes, really. Stacey and Kayla head to a movie… but not just any movie. They finally see the movie “Dangerous Animals”: a horror film about a serial killer who feeds his victims to sharks. It was every bit as terrifying as it sounds. Meanwhile, Kayla tells the insane story of Chris crashing his police car — not because of bad driving, but because of a hit and run by actual criminals on the run. And finally, we close out the episode with a brand-new game that sounded like a great idea… until we tried it and completely embarrassed ourselves. Learn more about your ad choices. This week's episode of the freshly award-losing Empire Podcast sees the podteam lick their wounds after a demoralising defeat in the Best Podcast (Consumer) category at the BSMEs earlier in the week. How do they do this? By talking about movies, of course, as they discuss the week's news (a load of trailers, and a potential new James Cameron movie), reviewing Ballerina: From The World Of John Wick, Dangerous Animals, and Predator: KIller Of Killers. Oh, and they talk about actors who might be able to reprise their iconic animation roles in live-action, while James hits Helen and Chris with a question that shakes them to their very foundations. Oh, and Chris also has lovely chats with Dangerous Animals star Jai Courtney, [25:17 - 40:27 approx] and Ballerina star/all-round legend, Ian McShane, [1:00:03 - 1:14:56 approx] while Harry Stainer makes his pod debut as he talks to How To Train Your Dragon (both animation and live-action) director, Dean DeBlois. [1:38:49 - 1:55:16 approx] Enjoy.
Welcome to The Following Films Podcast. I'm your host, Chris Maynard, and today I'm joined by acclaimed horror filmmaker Sean Byrne — the visionary behind The Loved Ones and The Devil's Candy.Sean is back with his most intense and ambitious film yet: Dangerous Animals — a razor-sharp fusion of shark thriller and serial killer horror, set against the vast, unforgiving waters of the Australian coast. With a bold script from screenwriter Nick Lepard, and haunting performances by Hassie Harrison and Jai Courtney, this is a film that doesn't just scare — it lingers.Shot on location, loaded with tension, and layered with unexpected emotional depth, Dangerous Animals is a high-concept genre film that asks: What if the real monster isn't in the water, but standing right beside you?Dangerous Animals opens exclusively in theaters tomorrow — June 6, 2025. You'll want to see this one on the biggest screen possible, surrounded by people gripping their seats just as hard as you are.In today's episode, Sean and I dive into the making of the film, the creative evolution of its characters, and what it means to make horror with heart — and teeth.Let's get into it.
"Dangerous Animals" had its world premiere in the Directors' Fortnight section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it received positive reviews for its brutal shark kills, handling of genre tone, and Jai Courtney's unhinged performance as the serial killer who feeds his victims to sharks and films them in the process. Courtney was kind enough to spend some time speaking with us about his experience making the film, which you can listen to below! Please be sure to check out the film, which is now playing in theaters from Independent Film Company. Thank you, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on...
