Rock & Brews is getting ready to open up in Royal Oak. Check out their upcoming concerts. Nino Brown Sports breaks down the separation of Dak Prescott and Sarah Jane Ramos. The NY Post has their own theory. Timothée Chalamet hates ballet and opera. He correctly calls them dying arts. Some people are cracking down on him, but Drew believes it's an Oscar smear campaign. Marc really wants the rest of the show to watch War Machine. Liza Minnelli looks great on her book tour. Totally lucid too. Music: Jack White popped off on the Taylor Swift method. Gene Simmons is sick and tired of celebrities lecturing the public. Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys suffered a stroke. Long-lost George Michael film and album are set to be released. “Daryl Hall needs to retire.” We check out Richie Sambora on The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan. The girl who shot up Rihanna's house is crazy. Rihanna has a five-head. Clavicular (Braden Peters) is the king of looksmaxxing. Gen Z men want submissive women. The creepy Alexander brothers have been found GUILTY of sex trafficking and rape. Criss Angel is being sued by an audience member who just wanted to text his mom. The Red Wings' Dylan Larkin is hurt. Love Story remains a must-watch. JFK Jr. once saved Daryl Hannah from Jackson Browne… and then nailed her. ‘Teen Takeovers' are running amok. Murderer Chris Watts was over the moon for Nichol Kessinger and her smoking hot body. Drew is upset with the loss of the penny and the practice of 'rounding-up'. Britney Spears' mugshot is too important for you to see. She is still fuming at her father. NYC IEDs: NYPD Chief Aaron Edwards has entered meme-level fame. The perpetrators are incredibly young. Who knew Flo Rida could help us bridge the gap! Travis Kelce has signed a 1-year deal with The Chiefs. Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have big plans for their ranch. “I'm a grown-up, you can't make me!” Dead Kennedys co-founder Jello Biafra was hospitalized after a stroke. Hour 1: We're just getting started. If you are looking for new, original storytelling - don't look to Hollywood. Arnold Schwarzenegger is working on reboots for THREE of his iconic films. It's all in the headline: Scrubs, Bridgerton, Yellowstone spin-off, and Tinkerbell! The Bernese coat of arms is striking an unlikely debate. Are you really a girls' girl? Here's how we look out for friends and fellow women you don't know. Hour 2: The woman who shot up Rihanna's house was ranting on social media. Bob is spilling a little bit more about ‘Project Hail Mary' ahead of its release next week. More Game of Thrones news. It's National Napping Day - go for it. Vinnie is still giving out his landline. A classic teen prank has left a teacher dead. Plus, strong feelings about Ranch ahead. (49:21) Hour 3: Jennifer Lopez knows what she wants from a man… we don't believe her. The Rob Reiner tribute at The Oscars is shaping up to be star-studded. The gang wants to change some of their Oscar predictions ahead of the show this weekend. Some guy claims to know the best cereal hack. A new onion that doesn't make you cry, but does it taste good? Have we all been to a wedding that we knew wasn't going to last? (1:30:31) Hour 4: Who knew Flo Rida could help us bridge the gap! The Epstein War, El Mencho's Blue Balls, and America's Next Top ModelI recorded this from my studio apartment in Los Feliz, in the lobotomizing sunshine of psychedelic Southern California, and despite my suntanned brain tissue. I have thoughts.Thoughts on the BAFTAs disaster during Black History Month. Thoughts on the BBC censoring “Free Palestine” while airing something they absolutely should not have aired. Thoughts on Larry Ellison buying a Hawaiian island, abandoning it, and moving 20 minutes from Mar-a-Lago like the demon he is. Thoughts on the Ellison-Paramount-Warner Brothers megadeal that will make sure every story you consume is owned by like, three guys.El Mencho is dead. The Jalisco Cartel boss, one of the most wanted men on earth, tracked down through a girlfriend. Very Adriana La Cerva coded. Mexico is burning and none of it touches the Epstein files, which is, I suspect, the whole point.America and Israel bombed Iran at 4am whilst we all slept. We woke to the killing of little girls. The Epstein War. Look over there guys! Don't look at what's happening here.Oh, and America's Next Top Model? We always knew it was fucked. Some of us said so at the time. “It was a different era” is not the excuse people think it is.This one's behind the paywall, over on Patreon (patreon.com/thisbodypodcast) because frankly it has to be. It's got Dead Kennedys, it's got cartel kingpin romance, it's got me ranting about the Kennedy family's collective karma while bleeding for the second time in three weeks.Subscribe to hear the whole thing. I'll see you after the flood. This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit sofiacaramella.substack.com/subscribe
"Louder Than You Think" Like many Gen Xers, I knew Gary Young as the drummer of Pavement, but for anyone from Stockton, he was way more than that. Let me back up. A key figure in the Stockton underground, Young played in a bunch of bands like The Fall of Christianity and he was responsible for bringing Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys to play shows in Stockton. Though almost twenty years older than the guys in Pavement, Young was their original drummer and played on their first few EPs and the seminal Slanted and Enchanted record. Young was one of the great characters of rock and roll and to get a real idea as to how charismatic, magnetic and mercurial he was, the documentary Louder Than You Think traces his life in art and music with unvarnsihed honesty and shambolic joy. The soundtrack, which features The Authorities, Edward Dahl, Pavement, Hot Spit Dancers, and Gary Young's Hospital, among others, is a wonderful tour of the Stockton Underground. Yes, Young got fired from Pavement, but what's cool about his story is that he stayed connected to the band--and that's the secret with all these Stockton kids--they stuck together even when some of them fell apart. As for Kelly Foley, the former singer of The Torn Lords had a career in Forensic Psychology and when he retired, he devoted himself soley to making art. Kelly knew Gary for decades and even had a project called Blue Boy Cometh which featured Young on drums just before his death. Foley is a lovely guy and he's kind of become the forensic archivist of the Stockton underground, making sure the paths of all the artists he knew--from Grant Lee Phillips to Crill--have their work preserved. www.independentprojectrecords.com (http://www.independentprojectrecords.com) www.bombshellradio.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) wwww.alexgreenbooks.com Stereo Embers: THREADS + BLUESKY + IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

The boys use punk rock to mock programmed rebellion, sneer at corporate cool, and use the scientific method to conduct an autopsy on the corpse of Dead Kennedys' 1985 middle-finger-to-the-mainstream manifesto, “MTV-Get Off the Air.” News items and digressions include Alex Honnold free-soloing Taipei with Tool and enjoying overnight AM aliens with Art Bell.

A solid discog you could hold in one hand - Dead Kennedys managed to make some awesome rock and roll while simultaneously defying music industry promises and pee-pee tugs. In San Francisco, Mabuhay Gardens was the epicenter of punk. Located on Broadway at the edge of North Beach and Chinatown, it was ground zero for the city's emerging punk movement in the late 1970s. The Filipino restaurant and nightclub hosted many of the era's most iconic punk bands — including the Avengers, Dead Kennedys, and the Jim Carroll Band. Even punk rock icon Patti Smith took the stage. In this episode, we dig into the history and legacy of the so-called "Fab Mab." The Story of Orlando's Damage with Mike Brown /////// Mike Brown of Orlando synth hardcore band Damage shares the story of the band's journey through Central Florida's underground music scene. The band started out as Brain Damage, but shortened the name to Damage for a gig at a Chuck E. Cheese, of all places. From there, things took off. One of their most iconic shows was opening for the Dead Kennedys at the Syrian Lebanese Hall in Orlando.Mike talks about the band's lineup over the years, venues, and various shows and scenes across Florida. He also shares what it was like to bring Damage back after nearly 35 years. We dig into the origins of Space Fish Records, Splash Zine, and Club Space Fish. The club hosted countless shows, but is most remembered for the infamous GG Allin performance that ultimately led to its closure.Mike also touches on his 90s band Disco Biscuit and gives us a look at what Damage is doing today.

One of my interests that started well before I started this podcast - so we're talking maybe 8/9 years ago - was what sort of characteristics and attributes do we need as people to get stuff done in a world that was becoming more complex, uncertain, volatile and ambiguous. Fast forward 7 or 8 years to now and that world has changed at a pace that I'm not sure many predicted. One aspect of music that always intrigued me was how bands evolve. I'm not really talking about whether they evolve from one genre to another (although everyone knows that I really hate the notion of genres), but what they need as a band and as people to evolve. And I think curiosity has a big role to play here. That beautiful thing we're born with – you know, like when the next question from a small kid is always gonna be “but why?” - and gets kicked out of us at an early age by the establishment, cos hey, who in the establishment wants curious, challenging thinkers? Brian Amalfitano is with a band that I love dearly and epitomizes curiosity for new ideas, for new ways of doing things and one which in my opinion has a unique open mindedness for experimenting with sound and performance. Their recordings and live performances push sonic boundaries with as much significance as the early output of bands like Cabaret Voltaire, The Pop Group and early PIL in the late 70s / early 80s.And I have to say that they have a particularly unique ability to create an observant and prescient soundtrack that's scarily representative of a decaying world, in a similar vein to what The Dead Kennedys were able to create back in the 80's. In short. Listen to Deaf Club!https://www.iwannajumplikedeedee.comI Wanna Jump Like Dee Dee is the music podcast that does music interviews differently. Giles Sibbald talks to musicians, DJ's and producers about how they use an experimental mindset in every part of their lives.- brought to you from the mothership of the experimental mindset™- cover art by Giles Sibbald - doodle logo and art by Tide Adesanya, Coppie and Paste

I made this podcast just as the pandemic was starting to let up. What a joy it was to be back in the same room with a guest... even though most of my intervies now happen online regardless... Patrick O'Neil's new book "Anarchy at The Circle K" - chronicling his life as a tour manager for punk rock bands like The Dead Kennedys - is out now. He is also a teacher and a substance abuse counselor. But before all that -- he was a bank robber -- responsible for a series of hold ups in the bay area with a gang of guys known as the "Men In Black." This episode is such a powerful exploration of the slippery slope that is addiction as well as the capricious nature of grace.
