The Dads From The Crypt are back, and this time we're heading to college for one of the most gloriously fun horror movies of the 1980s: Night of the Creeps! In this episode, we break down Fred Dekker's 1986 cult classic, where alien slugs, reanimated corpses, fraternity hijinks, and two absolutely legendary cops collide in one wildly entertaining horror-comedy.We talk about the movie's incredible blend of sci-fi, zombies, slasher horror, and comedy, the unforgettable characters, the practical effects, the references to classic horror films, and why Night of the Creeps has become such a beloved cult favorite. Is this one of the greatest horror comedies of the '80s? Are the CREEPS still as much fun nearly 40 years later? And most importantly... why don't they make movies like this anymore?!Grab your flamethrower and join the Dads From The Crypt for a deep dive into Night of the Creeps!
We're kicking off back to school with a horror classic! Zombies, exploding heads, creepy-crawlies... and a date for the formal. This is classic, E&E!
by Patrick BromleyChicago's biggest and best horror convention returns! One of my favorite weekends of the year is Chicago's annual Flashback Weekend, the horror convention created and run by Mike and Mia Kerz that takes place in Rosemont, Illinois. It's three days of panels, parties, contests, vendors, celebrity guests, live music -- everything you could want as a horror fan. This will be my sixth year hosting panels at the convention, but I've been going to Flashback much longer than just these six years. I love it.This year's Flashback features a salute to 30 years of the Scream franchise, celebrates Halloween II, a Night of the Creeps reunion, features first-time Flashback appearances from Henry Thomas, Steven Weber, and the Silent Night, Deadly Night Santas, and even has Obsession co-star Megan Lawless making her convention debut (I get to host her panel on Sunday! Come on out!). Plus, this year sees the world premiere of a brand new Full Moon movie (relevant to my interests!), in-costume photo opps, Alan Howarth playing the score to Halloween II LIVE along with the film, a tribute to Svengoolie (the greatest horror host of all time), and so much more. One of my favorite things about Flashback -- besides all the cool guests and the chance to spend the weekend surrounded by horror stuff and horror fans -- is that it's a family-run convention and really feels that way. All of the proceeds from the con go into supporting the Midway Drive-In located in Dixon, IL -- the nicest and best drive-in in Illinois -- which they bought in 2007. I love that Flashback is dedicated to preserving the big-screen theatrical experience. From this year's press release:Flashback Weekend Chicago Horror ConventionJuly 31 - Aug. 2, 2026Hyatt Regency O'Hare Chicago, Rosemont, IL 60018 Tickets now on sale at www.flashbackweekend.comFlashback Weekend Chicago Horror Convention celebrates its 25th year with a MASSIVE Celebrity guest line-up, amazing evening events, luxurious after-parties, an enormous vendor room, and special Celebrity costume Celeb Photo-Ops.All of this and more, taking place in one of the largest and most beautiful Convention hotels in the World!FLASHBACK WEEKEND 2026 SALUTES;-30 years of SCREAM! This week, we've got good news and bad news with 1986's "Night of the Creeps." We talk about writer/director Fred Dekker's cult classic featuring college nerds in love, corpse-handling frat pranks, a hard-drinking Tom Atkins, 50's sci-fi, axe-wielding maniacs, zombies, brain-sucking slugs and a cavalcade of catchphrases. Listen now.
Firstly, we're doing some Fred Dekker films, so ya gotta start with 1986's “Night of the Creeps”. More pressing however, JR would like you to know that he does know other Tom Atkins films, like “Maniac Cop”, and “Creepshow”, and “The Fog”, and “Tarantulas: The Deadly Cargo”. You haven't even listened to the episode yet and he's already told me to warn you that he's not a guy who forgets Tom Atkins movies.
Get ready, fright fans, because 1986 was loud, slimy, radioactive, and absolutely out of its damn mind! In this blood-soaked battle royale, we're throwing the horror heavyweights of 1986 into the ring to see which film claws its way to the top. Can THE FLY mutate its way into the winner's circle with pure tragic body horror perfection, or does THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE PART 2 chainsaw through the competition with neon-soaked insanity? Will FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 6: JASON LIVES prove Jason had finally become the ultimate horror icon, or do the alien terrors of CRITTERS and the undead chaos of NIGHT OF THE CREEPS steal the crown? Meanwhile, FROM BEYOND melts minds and bodies alike, TRICK OR TREAT cranks the volume straight to hell, POLTERGEIST II brings supernatural nightmare fuel, and APRIL FOOL'S DAY reminds us that sometimes the joke is on us. Join us as we slice through the gore, the goo, the creatures, and the carnage to determine which film stands tall as the ultimate horror champion of 1986! Let's get Spooky!
EJ's filled with space slugs…again! This normally wouldn't be an issue, but he's making it Rory, Greg Caldwell, Jay Salerno, and Megan Elizabeth's problem by getting them all infested and the like. It has been proven by scientists that slug infested cinephiles love reviewing the movie “NIGHT OF THE CREEPS” so that's what we're doing this week, jerks!

Spoilers ahead homies! Movie breakdown starts at 17:00. They slither! They scuttle! And most importantly they creep! Come hangout on sorority row as we make it through Night of the Creeps! Also, Erika and Roshane debate joining in on all the fun.
Before SLITHER slimed its way onto screens and THE FACULTY made you question your high school staff, there was NIGHT OF THE CREEPS, a glorious midnight movie that dares to ask, “What if alien brain slugs turned frat bros into the undead?” Spoiler alert: it's as amazing as it sounds. When a frozen corpse from 1959 thaws out in the ‘80s, it unleashes a parasitic plague of space slugs that turn people into mindless, worm-barfing zombies. Enter Detective Cameron (the legendary Tom Atkins), a hard-drinking, one-liner-spouting badass who's seen enough horror to know that things are about to go from bad to thrill me. Meanwhile, our hapless heroes—an awkward college freshman and his wisecracking best friend—find themselves in a fight for survival against an army of tuxedo-wearing, dance-crashing corpses. This movie has everything: axe-wielding zombies, flamethrowers, exploding heads, and Tom Atkins effortlessly stealing every scene. If you're into pure B-movie bliss, this one's for you.

Welcome back to Film Haven Reviews!! This week we are continuing our "Night of the..." theme with the cult comedy classic Night of the Creeps (1986)I was pleasantly surprised by this hilarous teen horror parody as it went beyond silly humor and actually made for a decent film as well. I gave this movie an 8/10 for being subtely self-aware but also exceeding in all of the aspects of the horror genre that it was actively poking fun at. Great practical effects, good storyline, fun hokey acting, and grand finale. I highly recommend. It's showtime, maniacs! This episode is a monumental occasion for many reasons. Not only is A Comedy Of Horrors coming to an end, not only is it our seven year anniversary, but it's also Gregg's final episode as a full-time host. For these reasons, we had to end on an absolute home run, so we're prepping for the upcoming sequel and discussing Beetlejuice from 1988. Grab a Zagnut and tune in as we break down the flick and talk about other topics such as the inexplicable Pittsburgh connections to this movie, Alkaline Trio suits versus Smash Mouth suits, and how this PG movie is definitely not for kids. Drop that Caramello and check out our Patreon! This month we play a little game Gregg cooked up called Pit Or Pass? Six songs have been selected, all cover songs by late 90s and early 00s nu-metal bands, and we decide whether we hit the pit if it's good or we check out the merch booth if it's bad. For as little as $2 a month you can get in on the action as well with bonus episodes, Discord privileges, livestreams, exclusive merchandise and more! This episode contains Pittsburgh acting legend Michael Keaton, so you probably want more episodes featuring actors from Pittsburgh! Check out our previous episodes containing the work of Tom Atkins: Halloween III (episode 7), Night Of The Creeps (episode 52), The New Kids (episode 87), Creepshow (episode 104), Maniac Cop (episode 130), and The Fog (episode 296). We've also discussed the late great Kevin Peter Hall in Predator (episode 204) and One Dark Night (episode 301). And who could forget Jeff Goldblum in The Fly (episode 76)?
Unpleasant dreams, maniacs! A Comedy Of Horrors continues and we're checking in with one of the most revered horror hosts of the 80s and discussing Elvira: Mistress Of The Dark. Tune in as we break down the flick and talk about other topics such as positive goofballs versus negative goofballs, Boss Boy, and our collective opinions on orange Tic-Tacs.
