One of the greatest lies the enemy whispers to men is, “You're better off alone.” He wants you isolated, convinced you don't need anyone, and ashamed of your struggles. But Scripture tells us something different: we are stronger together. God designed brotherhood and accountability as weapons against sin, weakness, and discouragement. Real men don't fight their battles alone—they link arms with brothers who sharpen them, challenge them, and call them higher. Our springboard for today's discussion is:“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” — Proverbs 27:17 (ESV)Sharpening isn't a gentle process—it involves friction. Sparks fly. But without it, iron grows dull. And the same is true for men. Without brothers who will challenge us, confront us, and encourage us, we drift into weakness.Brotherhood means more than casual friendship. It means intentional connection with men who share your pursuit of Christ. Men who will tell you the truth, not just what you want to hear. Men who will pray for you, not gossip about you. Men who will pull you back when you're drifting and push you forward when you're hesitating.Accountability often gets a bad reputation—like it's only about confessing sin. But accountability is much bigger than that. It's about growth. It's about having men in your life who ask the hard questions, who celebrate your victories, and who won't let you settle for less than God's best. The culture says, “Handle your business alone.” God says, “Two are better than one.” The enemy trembles when men of God lock shields together, because he knows isolated men are vulnerable—but united men are unstoppable.Question of the Day:Do you have brothers in your life who sharpen you—or are you trying to fight your battles alone?Mini Call to Action:Reach out to one brother today. Ask him how he's really doing—and then let him ask you the same. Sharpen each other with honesty.Prayer:Lord, thank You for the gift of brotherhood. Surround me with men who will sharpen me and help me grow. Give me courage to be honest, humble, and accountable, so I can become the man You've called me to be.Let's Get To Work! The lone wolf may look tough, but he rarely survives. Matt and Chris once again take up their oars and plunge deeper into the recursive whirlpools of contemporary sensemaking. Picking up where Part 1 left off, having grappled with conscience, touchstones, hierarchies, and normativity, we return to the sensemaking labyrinth to see just how many more words and concepts the combined powers of Peterson, Vervaeke, and Hall can stretch to breaking point. This second leg of the voyage allows us to chart more of the universal sensemaking grammar, with its biblical scaffolding, liberal use of metaphors, and frequent exhortations to ascend Jacob's ladder. But alongside Peterson's predictable biblical musings, you can also thrill at unexpected treats like John Vervaeke unveiling how finite transcendence connects to inexhaustible intelligibility and Jordan Hall explaining that even silence can be a form of sensemaking.Expect symbolic snakes, dangling ropes, and ecological psychology refashioned for mystical ascent, Augustine rediscovered through Plato, and culture reframed as an alcoholic parent. Or if you prefer, enjoy detours into atheists and their Luciferian egos, the sacred role of play, and the profound revelations that can be drawn from childhood disappointments at McDonald's and grandfathers complaining about Nixonian duplicitySo join us for the final leg of the Sensemaking Odyssey. Sharpen your mind, get ready to traverse through 3D space, and prepare for an encounter with the Logos... in the context of listening to a podcast.SourcesA Dialogue So Dangerous, It Just Might Bring You Wisdom | John Vervaeke and Jordan Hall | EP 532

I have recorded multiple episodes on the topic of "Sharpening The Blade." Sharpening the blade is a term used by chefs, lumberjacks and hockey players that means, take the time to sharpen your blade and you will save time and effort while you cut, chop or skate. I sharpen my mental blade multiple times a year. Short trips, hikes, weekends with no cell service and anything else that removes me from the grid would qualify as a STB! This last STB was one for the ages. I trained for it, planned for it and executed it to the highest level. It involved an entire month of travel, new experiences, killer waves, massive wipeouts, sun, fun and romance. (Ahhh ha honey! That's right baby) You don't need to do what I did to get similar results. You just need to have an intention and create an environment that is conducive to that intention. You have Bali in your heart. You have Thailand in your loins. You just need to dig deeper to find it. (That didn't sound right!) Enjoy this episode. I enjoyed recording it for you. What if HR wasn't the department you dreaded — but the partner that helped your team thrive? In this episode of Scaling UP! H2O, host Trace Blackmore welcomes Tia Amundson, HR Director at HOH Water Technology, to explore how human resources can be a strategic driver of talent, culture, and profitability in the water treatment industry. Redefining HR's Role Tia shares her journey into water treatment and how she built HOH's HR department from the ground up. Instead of treating HR as a compliance function, she reframed it as a leadership partner—focused on employee connections, transparent communication, and culture building. From structured check-ins at 30, 60, and 90 days to coaching managers and bridging communication gaps, her approach ensures employees feel supported, heard, and connected. Culture as Competitive Advantage HOH's success story demonstrates how culture directly shapes business outcomes. Tia explains how open-book management, employee engagement surveys, and intentional recognition programs have increased retention, profitability, and trust across the organization. By aligning HR strategies with EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System), HOH has cultivated an environment where employees thrive and deliver exceptional service. Talent, Retention, and the Future of HR Finding and retaining the right people remains one of the industry's biggest challenges. Tia outlines the importance of a clear employee value proposition, authentic recruiting practices, and a commitment to work-life balance. She also discusses how HR will evolve over the next decade, balancing automation with the irreplaceable human element of caring for people. Dream Management and Employee Growth As a Certified Dream Manager, Tia integrates personal growth with professional development. By helping employees pursue their own dreams, HOH has fostered deeper engagement, loyalty, and breakthroughs that extend far beyond the workplace. Conclusion For leaders in the water treatment industry, this episode challenges you to view HR not as a cost center, but as a powerful lever for long-term success. Strategic HR practices can reduce turnover, build culture, and give your organization a competitive edge. Stay engaged, keep learning, and continue scaling up your knowledge! Grandpa Bill talks about Brain Gain focus as a super power to drive memory-recap of a formal workshop "Brain Armor" with Dr. Anthony MetivierIn a world drowning in digital noise and endless distraction, our most valuable asset—our focus—is under constant siege. We've become masters of "idle scrolling," a mindless, passive activity that promises connection but delivers only a fragmented, exhausted mind. The very device we hold in our hands, meant to be a tool for productivity and knowledge, has become a thief of our cognitive power. But what if you could reclaim that power? What if you could forge your focus into a superpower, not just for a fleeting moment, but as a core capability that drives a sharper memory and a more resilient mind? This is the essence of the A.R.M. Method, a framework for building "Brain Armor" strategies and exercises that transform your relationship with your own attention.A is for Awareness + Acceptance. The journey begins not with a new app or a complicated technique, but with radical honesty. We must first become aware of our current habits. Acknowledge the moments you reach for your phone out of boredom, the hours lost to social media feeds, the difficulty you have in staying present in a conversation or a task. This awareness isn't about judgment; it's about observation. Following awareness comes acceptance. Accept that this is where you are right now. Accept that your brain has been trained for distraction. This acceptance is the fertile ground from which real change can grow. Without it, you're fighting a shadow.R is for Response. Once you are aware and accepting, you are empowered to choose a different response. Instead of automatically reaching for your phone during a lull, what if you chose to notice your breath? Instead of letting your mind wander during a meeting, what if you brought it back gently to the speaker's words? This is where the Brain Armor exercises come in. These aren't just one-off tricks; they are intentional, repeatable actions designed to build new neural pathways. This could be a 5-minute meditation, a focused breathing exercise, or a single-tasking session where you dedicate your entire attention to one thing. The goal is to consciously override the old, automated response of distraction with a new, intentional one of focus.M is for Management. The final piece of the A.R.M. method is management. This is the ongoing, strategic maintenance of your mental state. It's about creating a lifestyle that supports focus and memory, rather than sabotaging it. This includes setting clear boundaries with technology (e.g., "phone-free" hours), building routines that prioritize deep work, and integrating practices that "relax all aspects of the mind." This isn't about being idle; it's about active, restorative rest. It's the difference between zoning out and consciously unwinding. Think of a mind that is well-managed as a sharp, finely-honed tool, not a dull, cluttered drawer. The A.R.M. Method is an antidote to the modern condition. It's a conscious choice to move from being a passive consumer of information to an active architect of your own mind. By embracing Awareness and Acceptance, choosing a new Response, and proactively Managing your mental well-being, you don't just fight distraction—you build a brain that is sharper, more resilient, and truly alive. This is the ultimate superpower, and it's within your reach.#TheARMmethod,#BrainArmor#FocusSuperpower#DigitalWellness,#MindfulLiving,#AttentionManagement,#MemoryBoost,#BeyondIdleScrolling,#ReclaimYourFocus,#CognitiveFitness,

Franco? Just one point could prove his worth in a struggling Alpine. Sainz? The pressure is intense to respond to Albon AND for Williams to step up on reliability. Hamilton? Sharpen qualifying and tame public self‑criticism to regain momentum at Ferrari. Meanwhile, Tsunoda must convert raw pace into consistent Q3 appearances at Red Bull while Mercedes rookie Antonelli has to stack up enough solid points to regain confidence lost in Europe. Each driver is walking a tightrope.#f1 #formula1 #formulaone #f12025 #lewishamilton #carlossainz #kimiantonelli #yukitsunoda #francocolapinto #f1news #f1latest #f12026 #f1drama5 F1 Drivers Cooking Under Pressure in 2025https://youtu.be/lLaFjfhf-sYCan't watch the ladder? Sharpen your pencils, grab a fresh notebook—it's back-to-school season for your business! Just like the excitement of new school supplies and a fresh start, this time of year gives us the perfect opportunity to reset and set yourself up for a strong finish to the year. In this episode of Business by the Books, Danielle Hayden, reformed corporate CFO and owner of Kickstart Accounting, Inc., shares her simple but powerful framework for getting back on track after summer and closing out the year in a way you'll feel proud of. Think of it as your “second January,” a fresh chance to refocus, reenergize, and reset your goals for Q3 and Q4. Key Takeaways: Reset Your CEO Mindset: Learn how to pause, reflect, and set yourself up for success by focusing on what's working (and letting go of what's not). Schedule CEO Time: Carve out dedicated time each week to think strategically about your business instead of getting lost in day-to-day fires. Get Clarity on Your Numbers: Update your books, review your income statement and balance sheet, and uncover where your money is really going. Prep for Q4 with Intention: Map out expenses, holiday schedules, and one clear financial goal so you can finish the year with focus, not overwhelm. Some Goals Can Wait: Trying to do everything right now often leads to getting nothing done. Choose one thing you can accomplish before year-end and save the rest for another quarter. Ask for Help!: You don't have to do this alone—lean on your financial team, coaches, and accountability partners to support your growth. Topics Discussed: (00:00 – 02:10) Why Back-to-School Season Is a Fresh Start and a Reset from Summer (02:11 – 04:38) Shifting Into a CEO Mindset and Creating Weekly CEO Time (04:39 – 06:59) Reviewing Financial Statements to Uncover Insights and Cash Flow Surprises (06:59 – 09:31) Planning Q4 with Intention: Expenses, Taxes, and Big Goals (09:32 – 11:25) The Power of a “Wait Until Next Quarter” List and Asking for Help Book a Call with Kickstart Accounting, Inc.: https://www.kickstartaccountinginc.com/book Connect with Kickstart Accounting, Inc.: Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/Kickstartaccounting YouTube | https://www.youtube.com/@businessbythebooks Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/kickstartaccountinginc

As summer winds down and school beckons, we're looking back in our archives and assigning some back-to-school reading—grown-up style. In this episode, Judge Robert Bacharach shares insights from his book on the science of persuasive legal writing and why judges love to talk about language. —-- There's plenty of conventional wisdom about what makes a good legal brief or court opinion. Judge Robert E. Bacharach of the Denver-based 10th Circuit Court of Appeals says that when judges socialize, their conversations often devolve into discussions about language and pieces of writing they enjoy or revile. But Bacharach decided he wanted to dive deeper, to see what the science of psycholinguistics could teach lawyers and judges about how written words persuade an audience. The result was his new book, Legal Writing: A Judge's Perspective on the Science and Rhetoric of the Written Word, published by the ABA. Legal Writing is a slim volume, but it's packed with tips. It considers details as microscopic as a serif on a letter and as macroscopic as how to create an outline for an argument. In this episode of the Modern Law Library podcast, Bacharach chats about his own writing process; shares his top takeaways from the psycholinguists he consulted; and offers his advice for young litigators looking to hone their skills.
It's not everyday that a former student of yours says that he's been accepted to Harvard Law School - or every year...or every lifetime! But recently, Whetstone was honored by the news that one of its graduates has done just that.Join us this week on A Time to Sharpen for an in-depth discussion with our friend and colleague, Kiernan the Wise. That's not his actual name, but after listening to this podcast, I think you'll agree that the moniker fits. By God's grace, Kiernan was able to turn things around during his 6 and a half months at Whetstone and get going in the right direction. And while this is a feat all by itself, he was able to keep things going far past the point that most people would think possible. It's an inspiring story, and every bit of the 90 minute conversation is true. So get comfortable, or start folding that laundry so that you can focus your attention on what he has to say.
