While we could have done an entire episode full of jokes about how the producer, the writer, and two stars in this story were “flamers,” we didn't. (Besides, our host has no room to talk.) Instead, we came to have a short discussion and ended up having one of our longest discussions to date, about a book that is surprisingly good. Come join Tony Whitt, Alyson Fitch-Safreed, and Dalton Hughes as they discuss Peter Grimwade's novelization of PLANET OF FIRE. We are now a proud part of the Direction Point Podcast Network, including such fine shows as THE DOCTOR WHO COLLECTORS PODCAST, THE POLICE BOX IN A JUNKYARD PODCAST, and TIMESTREAMS. A Hamster With a Blunt Penknife - a Doctor Who Commentary podcast
Joe & Jason; with 17 year scores to settle! We're talking contributors and this time around we focus on director Peter Grimwade; focussed, antagonistic, creative, manic and stylish. Jason is back, and Joe is deliriously happy.

This time Taylor is joined by friend of the show Terry Manley as they discuss the 5th Doctor story (and Season 19 finale) Time-Flight! It's a bonkers adventure with next to no budget that was all inspired by Peter Grimwade's hope that he could score a ride on the Concorde! But Time-Flight is a generally panned adventure that possibly would have worked better in the middle of the season. Regardless, Taylor and Terry find the elements that work best (Kalid's accent definitely not amongst that list) and celebrate the craziness that is Time-Flight!

Ben and Mark discuss pain, anguish, death and loss in another hilarious episode of On the Time Lash which pairs 2015's Heaven Sent with 1982's Time Flight. Heaven Sent: Paul McEvoy writes in to tell us all about the beauty of Murray Gold's score, Mark tries to structure the plot around the Kubler-Ross 5 stages of grief, and Ben unpicks the clockwork mechanisms of Steven Moffat's tremendous script. Time-Flight: What would this be like as a Pertwee story? ponders Mark on his first viewing of a much-derided story, but will he toe the line or dissent from fan consensus? Meanwhile, Ben introduces the ropiest conspiracy theory you'll hear all year and discusses what Time-Flight had to offer his younger self as he started out on his Doctor Who journey. Also: Glen McCoy has an issue with his gym membership, Peter Grimwade ponces about on a big plane and Anthony Ainley greys up.
NEW TO WHO - LOGOPOLIS In theory Dan and Steven should be able to change †heir appearance to blend in unobtrusively wherever they happen to materialise. In practice, however, because of a fault in the chameleon circuit, they always look like a police box - a minor inconvenience the they now hope to correct.Fixing the mechanism involves a visit to Perth and a trip to the planet Logopolis - normally a quiet little place that keeps itself to itself. But on this occasion the meddling presence of Col ensures the disruption of normality. And even Col is horrified by the threat of total chaos he unintentionally precipitates - until he finds a way to turn the imminent destruction of the universe to his own advantage...New to Who concludes its trilogy of regeneration stories with this, the final story of the Fourth Doctor as played by the inimitable Tom Baker. It is also the introductory story featuring the first Australian companion, Tegan Jovanka played by the lovely Janet Fielding, who joins existing companion Adric (Matthew Waterhouse) and Nyssa (Sarah Sutton) who rejoins the cast in what will become known as the ‘crowded TARDIS’ in the following season.LOGOPOLIS was written by the Season 18 script editor, Christopher H Bidmead, and is beautifully directed by the late, great Peter Grimwade, his second story as director for the programme. Peter Grimwade would go on to write three Fifth Doctor stories. The cover of the original imprint of the 1982 Target novelisation for LOGOPOLIS is by Andrew Skilleter. The novelisation is written by Christopher H Bidmead, who also reads the audiobook, which is available from Audible.Intro theme by Our Colin (2019), and outro music by Bridget (2019). Much love and thanks, Col and Bridget! ❤︎If you enjoyed Bridget's music and would like to hear more, please check out her band Simone & Girlfunkle.Special thanks to Sarah Tout at Voice Box Media Training.NEW TO WHO WILL RETURN (One day. Yes, one day…)
In this episode, Paul and Phil scrape the bottom of the Doctor Who barrel and decided to tackle the Target novelisation of Time Flight, written by Peter Grimwade. And do you think the book will be any better than the televised version? Do you think the book will address the racist caricatures that were present in the TV serial? Do you think the book will.....oh don't bother! Just listen to be disappointed, as if you were expecting anything else? And in the news this week, we say goodbye to three Doctor Who alumni, Jodie Whittaker's 13th Doctor Costume is revealed, there are some NuWHo Target books on the way and in a return to Omega's Tat Corner, there is some quality timekeeping tat!
Toby Hadoke continues on his five year mission to seek out new interviews, new conversations, with people associated with 54 years of Doctor Who on television!
Hello! The musical episode promised last month has arrived. And no, that doesn't mean Dave's singing (as much as he'd like to)! After the usual wrap up of the previous month in Doctor Who, Rob and Dave work their way through 50 years-plus of Doctor Who incidental music, with clips, and a little help from some fantastic listeners. In more detail, today's episode covers: – Listener feedback asking, "Was Pearl Mackie announced too early?" – The return of Mondasian Cybermen. - Class. Will it return in a second series? - The ABC releases Series 10 trailer early. - The Last Leg comments on the Series 10 trailer. - John Barrowman still wants to meet the 12th Doctor on TV. - David attends an old school sci-fi convention in Melbourne, "Con 80 - The Ultimate 1980s Sci-Fi Experience". - New Doctor Who novels out soon featuring the 12th Doctor; The Shining Man (Cavan Scott), Diamond Dogs (Mike Tucker) & Plague City (Jonathan Morris). - The Come-Uppance of Captain Katt by Peter Grimwade. - Doctor Who incidental music, featuring comments from listeners Jim Cameron, Mark Smith, Kenny Davidson, John Hole, Jeff Waddell, Alastair Thomson-Mills, I'll Explain Later, Kathleen Cruikshank and music from stories including: The Daleks, Tomb of the Cybermen, The Web of Fear, The Invasion, The Sea Devils, Terror of the Zygons, The Sunmakers, The Leisure Hive, Logopolis, Enlightenment, The Five Doctors, Frontios, The Mysterious Planet, Dragonfire, The Happiness Patrol, Survival, The Movie, Doomsday, The Eleventh Hour, The Rings of Akhaten, The Wedding of River Song and more. Thanks everyone, as always, for listening. We greatly appreciate your ears and your emails and tweets and, if you really want to make our day, why not leave us an iTunes review? See you next month...!
Liz Shaw was truly the most memorable UNIT member. This week’s throwback to earlier serials comes in the form of The Brigadier Allistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. The one and only, taking over for Ian. Yes, apparently the Brig can teach math? It’s Mawdryn Undead written by Peter Grimwade and aired in February of 1983. Doctor WhoContinue reading →
In this weeks edition of the Who's He? Podcast, Paul and Phil read and review the Target novelisation of Planet of Fire written by Peter Grimwade. Yes, in a story that sees Turlough leave the TARDIS, the Master getting killed off (again) and Peri joining the TARDIS crew, the intrepid reviewing duo compare the TV version to the written word and decide that this is a saucy read due to the appearance of "the little Master". Listen to find out what that all means! And in the news this week, Phil and Paul pay tribute to Robert Banks Stewart who sadly passed away and there's pointless awards news too! Oh, and something about Steve Moffat leaving and Chris Chibnall taking over.
We've finally made it through the lengthy (though highly enjoyable if you ask us) jaunt with Hulke and Nation and we're celebrating by heading with Doctor Who into the future! All the way to the 1980s, that is. This month, we're talking about the three stories written by Peter Grimwade, the production assitant turned director turned writer. While we certainly do talk about his stint directing stories, we obviously focus on his authorial work, which consists of "Time-Flight," "Mawdryn Undead," and "Planet of Fire," all of which during the Peter Davison years. Well, at least we START with "Time-Flight," but there's also much talk about timelines and overcrowded storylines and TARDISes used for everything under the sun.
Gally news, casting details, and not-LEGO Doctor Who figures....all of which prefigured the cogent analysis and detailed examination of the (Doctor Who) career of one Peter Grimwade, one of the few polymaths to both write and direct for Doctor Who. With highlights such as Earthshock and lowlights like Time-Flight, Grimwade's output was grist for the mill of the Three Who Rule. Check out the show notes at http://www.radiofreeskaro.com
