It was developed and written by Emmy Award-winning writer Jack Thorne ("Adolescence"), directed by Marc Munden ("The Sympathizer") for BBC iPlayer and executive produced by Joel Wilson for BBC One in a co-production with Stan. The four-episode series was released in the UK in February, and then Sony Pictures Television confirmed Netflix had acquired the U.S. rights to the series, and it premiered on the streaming platform on May 4th, 2026, where it received positive reviews for its direction, cinematography, writing, and performances from its young cast of up-and-coming actors. Now that Dorit's financial mess has been exposed, Camille Grammer feels vindicated. Camille also slams RHOBH as boring, praises PK, talks season one drama with Kyle and oh, so very much more. Speaking of Dorit, her foreclosure has been postponed, for now…. Lala blows down the house and comes for everyone. Brynn Whitfield says a lot, but, in typical Brynn fashion, it is hard to tell what is true and what is untrue. Last, but not least, Sony Pictures Television buys RHOBH, RHOC, Vanderpump Rules, The Valley and more as 32 Flavors is sold off to the media giant. @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at - www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope BROUGHT TO YOU BY: ZENNI OPTICAL - zenni.com/podcast (Use Code Podcast15 For 15% Off Your First Order Of The Most Affordable, Stylish Glasses and Sunglasses) ADVERTISING INQUIRIES - Please contact David@advertising-execs.com MERCH Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices. Send us Fan MailTom Scott is the CEO of Wrike, the work management platform trusted by over 20,000 customers including Walmart Canada and Sony Pictures Television, across more than 140 countries and nearly 2 million end users.Tom's path to the CEO seat is anything but conventional. He spent over 20 years leading finance and operations across some of the most hardware-intensive sectors in tech, from building cell towers to running finance at Zebra Technologies and autonomous robotics company Fetch Robotics, before joining Wrike as CFO and transitioning to CEO in July 2023.In this episode, Tom draws on that rare vantage point (having led through multiple waves of technological disruption) to make a case that the leaders and companies that treat organizational intelligence as a combination of human judgment and AI capability, rather than a replacement of one by the other, are the ones building something that lasts. In this conversation, we discuss:Why transformation remains stubbornly hard in the AI era, and what leaders consistently underestimate about the real blockers to changeWhy the biggest career risk today is not AI itself, but the decision to stop moving up the value stack of your current roleThe two words Tom's customers and team use most to describe the current moment: pace and noise, and what that means for leaders trying to drive transformation. How Tom coaches his leadership team to hire for intensity and ownership over domain expertise, and why that philosophy matters more now than everWhy a deterministic career plan is no longer a viable strategy, and what curiosity and experience-chasing actually look like as professional operating principlesWhat Tom believes will be table stakes in the workplace well before 2031, and why the building blocks are already visible todayExplore this conversation:00:00 Intro and Fun Fact04:08 Scaling Work Management with Tom Scott, CEO of Wrike 04:47 From Cell Towers to the CEO Seat at Wrike 05:51 How Wrike Helps Teams Connect and Accelerate Work 10:21 The Hardest Part of Transitioning to the CEO Role 14:13 Wrike's Origins: Building Scalability for Complex Workflows 17:04 Managing Pace and Noise During AI Transformations 21:20 Why True Organizational Intelligence Requires Human Judgment 25:54 Embracing Technology to Move Up the Value Stack 28:11 Why Curiosity Outweighs a Deterministic Career Plan 31:25 Hiring Empowered Teams: Selecting for Ownership and Intensity 34:31 The Future of Work: When Agentic AI Becomes Table Stakes 36:32 Where to Connect with Tom Scott and Wrike Resources:Subscribe to the AI & The Future of Work NewsletterConnect with Thomas on LinkedInAI fun fact articleOn How Decentralized Intelligence and Data Precision Are Reshaping the Future of AI
**Laura Dern Faces Backlash Over Jeffrey Epstein Miniseries**Laura Dern is facing criticism for her involvement in an upcoming TV drama about Jeffrey Epstein, described by critics as a "kick in the face" for victims prior to its production. The Sony Pictures Television miniseries aims to dramatize Epstein's crimes and the investigation that uncovered them, with Dern reportedly in talks to portray Julie K Brown, a journalist whose reporting in the Miami Herald renewed scrutiny of Epstein's case. The series will likely draw from Brown's book, *Perversion of Justice: The Jeffrey Epstein Story*, encompassing her years of reporting that identified numerous victims and contributed to the arrest of Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
How do you actually build IP as an independent creator? In this episode, Alex Stolz is joined by Nuno Bernardo, IP creator, producer and founder of beActive, whose work has explored how stories can move across platforms, formats and audiences long before it became widely discussed. Drawing on more than two decades of experience, Nuno shares how his approach to IP developed, from early experiments in multi-platform storytelling to building projects that have travelled globally, been adapted across multiple territories, and sustained audiences over time. The conversation explores why IP isn't defined by scale, but by audience connection, and why it's ultimately the audience that determines whether something becomes IP. They also dive into practical ways creators can approach their work differently, from designing stories with expansion in mind, to testing ideas through smaller formats, building early traction, and using those signals to guide what comes next. Along the way, Nuno shares lessons from both successes and failures, including what happens when projects are over-planned without real audience engagement, and how independent creators can think more strategically about long-term value. A clear and practical conversation for anyone looking to move beyond one-off projects and build work that can grow, connect and endure. About Nuno Bernardo Nuno Bernardo is an Emmy-nominated transmedia architect and the founding of beActive Entertainment, a globally recognized IP studio. A true multidisciplinary creator, Nuno has spent over two decades pioneering the transition from digital-first content to international television formats, most notably with Sofia's Diary - a groundbreaking cross-media phenomenon that grew from a Portuguese blog into a global property distributed by Sony Pictures Television across 30 countries, reaching over 500 million viewers, and sustaining a diverse revenue ecosystem of books, radio, and licensed products for over 20 years. Nuno's expertise lies in the strategic construction of worlds that bridge the gap between Film, Television, Video Games, and Publishing. His track record includes the sci-fi franchise Collider, which integrated digital comics and mobile gaming into a feature film and TV series, and the Kids Emmy-nominated Beat Girl, which scaled from a Pinterest visual concept to a global series on Hulu. As a creator who successfully pivoted from project-based production to a sustainable IP ownership model, Nuno provides the blueprint for modern professionals to maintain creative control and build long-term asset value in a crowded global market. Some musicians do better with chaos. Others under deadlines and with teams. Tristan Clopet is a rare pro who's done both, and because of it knows the value of working towards a greater goal with a big team (and bigger pressure).Tristan's prolific work on film and TV scores gives him a deep insight into the nature of that side of the industry (and how different it is from his touring days supporting X Ambassadors, Billy Bragg, Tove Lo, Glen Hansard, and The Weeknd). It's a collaborative, deadline-oriented, large effort, with hundreds of creatives contributing to the final work. He shares how inspiring that journey is, and how knowing the boundaries can unlock even more creativity. I loved his story about scoring to Martin Freeman's solo acting in a car. (Martin Freeman happens to be one of my favorite actors.)His credits include:Sony Pictures Television's StartUp, created by Ben Ketai and starring Martin Freeman, Ron Perlman, Adam Brody, Mira Sorvino, and Edi Gathegi. Jeff Copeland talks with Emmy Winner Charlotte Robinson host of OUTTAKE VOICES™ about his new book “Love You Madly, Holly Woodlawn” published by Feral House. The memoir depicts how an unlikely friendship evolved between a young gay writer and Holly Woodlawn one of Andy Warhol's superstars from the films “Trash” and “Women in Revolt” as well as being Lou Reed's Holly in the hit glam rock song "Walk on the Wild Side". The book is based on the lengthy collaboration between Jeff and Holly as they created the bestselling 1991 autobiography “A Low Life in High Heels: The Holly Woodlawn Story”. For the trash mondo fans this must-read book is a pure delight and a refreshing escape from current affairs. Holly is the embodiment of Auntie Mame and Bette Davis fueled by chardonnay introducing Jeff to the glamorous and sometimes larcenous world of a Warhol Superstar. In turn Jeff uses his writing and typing talent to give Holly the second chance at the fame she craves. This wild read that you just can't put down takes you on a ride through Hollywood in the late 1980's through the 90's. Many of the named people in this literary extravaganza are real and some are famous so you'll probably recognize those but other names have been changed to protect the innocent and not so innocent's privacy. The layout and design by Ron Kretsch illustrating Copeland's journey also adds a timeless dimension with fabulous Hollywood montages and rare photos. We talked to Jeff about his inspiration for writing “Love You Madly, Holly Woodlawn” and his spin on moving forward in the current political climate. Jeff Copeland served as a writer/producer for almost thirty years in Hollywood for a variety of TV networks and film studios including Discovery, Animal Planet, HGTV, ABC, FOX and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Copeland also spent two years working with Garry Shandling which led to a corporate position with Sony Pictures Television. Jeff additionally devoted years developing scripts to be made into feature films. Currently he's turning some of those scripts into literary applications. Send us a textLegendary comedian, actor, and writer George Wallace is making his highly anticipated return to St. Louis this weekend for a two-night run at Helium Comedy Club, July 11–12, 2025, with shows at 7:00 PM and 9:15 PM on Friday, and 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM on Saturday. With ticket prices ranging from $41 for general admission to $61 for front row seating, fans are guaranteed an unforgettable night of comedy from one of the most iconic voices in stand-up. George Wallace whose lightning-fast wit, observational brilliance, and unforgettable storytelling have made him one of comedy's most respected figures. Known affectionately as “The New Mr. Vegas,” Wallace enjoyed more than a decade of success headlining his own show in Las Vegas—an unprecedented run that solidified his status as one of the greats in stand-up entertainment.Unlike any other show on the strip, Wallace's performances were interactive, heartfelt, and wildly generous—audiences could walk away with everything from diamond necklaces to tropical cruises, gourmet dinners, and even a new car. His spontaneous audience interactions and “anything can happen” attitude became his signature. Now, Wallace is stepping into a new chapter with Prime Video's upcoming comedy series Clean Slate, where he stars alongside Laverne Cox. The half-hour show—produced by Sony Pictures Television and developed by the late, great Norman Lear—was greenlit on Lear's 100th birthday and stands as a historic final project from the legendary TV pioneer. In Clean Slate, Wallace plays Henry Slate, a traditional, outspoken Alabama car wash owner whose world is turned upside down when his long-estranged child returns home—not as the son he remembers, but as Desiree Slate (Cox), a proud and resilient trans woman. The series explores themes of family, growth, and acceptance, all with Wallace's signature blend of humor and heart.Don't miss your chance to see a true comedy legend LIVE in St. Louis at Helium Comedy Club on July 11–12, 2025. No two shows are ever the same, and with Wallace, one thing is certain—you'll be laughing long after the curtain closes.http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. Speaking of Tom Cruise, he was no slouch either, with the Mission: Impossible franchise's latest and supposed final installment, The Final Reckoning, earning a franchise high of $77.5 million. While appearing on a recent episode of The Box Office Podcast, Ryan Reynolds revealed he pitched an R-rated Star Wars film to Disney, saying, “I pitched to Disney, I said, ‘Why don't we do an R-rated “Star Wars” property? It doesn't have to be overt, A+ characters. There's a wide range of characters you could use,'” he said. “And I don't mean R-rated to be vulgar. R-rated as a Trojan horse for emotion. I always wonder why studios don't want to just gamble on something like that.” The Deadpool actor clarified the film would not be for him to star in, but contribute behind the scenes by writing and producing. Notably absent from the conversation is Disney's reception to the pitch. After an extensive search auditioning more than 30,000 actors, HBO's Harry Potter series has finally found its Harry, Hermoine and Ron, as Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout have been cast in the respective roles. Cobra Kai is an American martial arts comedy drama television series created by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, and distributed by Sony Pictures Television. It serves as a sequel to the original The Karate Kid films created by Robert Mark Kamen.[1] The series premiered on May 2, 2018, and concluded on February 13, 2025, after six seasons consisting of 65 episodes. The series stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, reprising their respective roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence from the film series, alongside Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni DeCenzo, Peyton List, Vanessa Rubio, and Dallas Dupree Young. Martin Kove and Thomas Ian Griffith also reprise their roles from the films as part of the main cast, with many others returning in guest or recurring roles.Cobra Kai re-examines The Karate Kid films as Johnny's "redemption story,"[2] beginning with his decision to reopen the Cobra Kai karate dojo, and the rekindling of his old rivalry with Daniel.[3] The series attained high viewership on both YouTube and Netflix, and received critical acclaim for its writing, performances, action sequences, humor, character development, and faithfulness to the films. It received numerous awards and nominations, with the third season being nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards.Thirty-four years after being defeated by Daniel LaRusso in the 1984 All-Valley Karate Tournament at the end of The Karate Kid (1984), Johnny Lawrence suffers from alcoholism and depression. He works as a part-time handyman and lives in an apartment in Reseda, Los Angeles, having fallen far from his wealthy lifestyle in Encino. He has an estranged son named Robby, from a previous relationship, whom he has abandoned. In contrast, Daniel is now the owner of a successful car dealership and is married to co-owner Amanda with whom he has two children: Sam and Anthony. However, Daniel often struggles to meaningfully connect with his children especially after his friend and mentor Mr. Miyagi passed away prior to the series' beginning. After using karate to defend his teenage neighbor Miguel Diaz from a group of bullies, Johnny agrees to teach Miguel the way of the fist and re-opens Cobra Kai. The revived dojo attracts a group of bullied social outcasts who find camaraderie and self-confidence under Johnny's tutelage. The reopening of Cobra Kai reignites Johnny's rivalry with Daniel, who responds by opening the Miyagi-do dojo, whose students include Sam and Robby, leading to a rivalry between the respective dojos.Pre

Writer / Director Josh Margolin is here to discuss turning June Squibb into a nonagenarian action star in Thelma, parental caretaking dynamics, and high speed mobility scooter chases. More about Thelma: The feature directorial debut of Josh Margolin, THELMA is a poignant action-comedy that gives veteran Oscar® nominee June Squibb (NEBRASKA and star of Scarlett Johansson's upcoming directorial debut ELEANOR THE GREAT) her first leading role and features the final performance of trailblazing actor Richard Roundtree (SHAFT). Squibb, who did many of her own stunts in the film, plays Thelma Post, a feisty 93-year-old grandmother who gets conned by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson (The White Lotus' Fred Hechinger) and sets out on a treacherous quest across Los Angeles, accompanied by an aging friend (Roundtree) and his motorized scooter, to reclaim what was taken from her. Parker Posey, Clark Gregg, and Malcolm McDowell also star. Inspired by a real-life experience of Margolin's own grandmother, THELMA puts a clever spin on movies like MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, shining the spotlight on an elderly grandmother as an unlikely action hero. With infectious humor, Margolin employs the familiar tropes of the action genre in hilarious, age-appropriate ways to tackle aging with agency. In the first leading film role of her 70-year career, Squibb portrays the strong-willed Thelma with grit and determination, demonstrating that she is more than capable of taking care of business – despite what her daughter Gail (Posey), son-in-law Alan (Gregg), or grandson Danny might believe More about Josh Margolin: Josh Margolin is a writer, director, editor and actor from Los Angeles. He co-wrote, edited and starred in the absurdist horror-comedy DEEP MURDER, which premiered at the LA Film Festival in 2018 and ran theatrically before streaming on Paramount+. Previously, Josh co-created the digital series MY BOYFRIEND IS A ROBOT for Freeform, and has developed projects with TBS, Sony Pictures Television, Olive Bridge and Paul Feig's Powderkeg. He performed over 100 shows with One Night Stand: An Improvised Musical, which was produced by Marc Platt and had sold-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as well as appearances in the The New York Musical Theater Festival and a limited run in Los Angeles. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for information about all your favorite fictional Universes. Milly Alcock will show us her superhero landing when Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow premieres on June 26, 2026. Other than Sasha Calle's portrayal in The Flash, this means we'll see Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El on the big screen for the first time since 1984. The film will be released just a year after we see James Gunn's vision for the man of steel himself. In a move that seems telling of the new direction of MCU, the Marvel Television banner has been reintroduced and will be used for live action series such as Daredevil: Born Again, Agatha All Along, and Ironheart. The banner was previously used for MCU-adjacent shows Agents of SHIELD, Cloak & Dagger, and others. Brad Winderbaum, head of TV, streaming, and animation for Marvel Studios, said the idea is to let audiences know they can “jump in anywhere” in the MCU and still understand what's going on. Winderbaum also alluded to a Marvel Studios rebrand that encompasses Marvel Television, Marvel Animation, and Marvel Spotlight. HBO's streaming service Max released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Dune television spinoff show, Dune: Prophecy. The show is described as taking place 10,000 years before the events that lead to Paul Atreides' rise to emperor and will follow two Harkonnen sisters as they work to establish the Bene Gesserit. Inspired by the book Sisterhood of Dune, the show has mostly been kept under wraps until now. Movie goers probably should have bought a ticket for themselves and their imaginary friends last weekend as John Krasinski's new film IF didn't quite reach expectations with a $35 million opening in the U.S. Although this means it took first place at the box office, the movie cost $110 million to make and a global box office of $55 million is still a stumble. There may be hope yet for the kid-centered flick with a lot of schools across the country ready to enter summer break. Hot off the heels of an incredibly well received first season of X-Men '97, Marvel Studios seems to have found the voice of their live-action X-Men in screenwriter Michael Lesslie. Lesslie's writing credits include Assassin's Creed, The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, as well as the upcoming Now You See Me 3. While both parties are still in talks, if the addition pans out, it will be the most significant step to actualizing the X-Men in the MCU since Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019. Poker Face and Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne has joined the cast of Fantastic Four in an undisclosed role. Lionsgate is developing a John Wick spinoff movie around Donnie Yen's assassin character, Caine. Yen will reprise his John Wick: Chapter 4 role in the untitled project set to shoot in Hong Kong in 2025. The franchise expanding film, with no director yet announced, will follow the events of John Wick 4 as Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table. 1996 golf comedy Happy Gilmore is officially getting a sequel at Netflix with Adam Sandler returning to reprise his role. Amazon's Marvel drama Silk: Spider Society — from Sony Pictures Television — is no longer moving forward at the streamer but Sony does plan to shop the series to another studio or streaming service. Sony Pictures announced last week that I Know What You Did Last Summer, a reboot of the film with the same name as the original 1997 horror slasher, is set for theatrical release domestically on July 18, 2025. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will direct and Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze, Jr. are currently in early talks to return. Season 2, Episode 24, Release Date: 3-29-2024 Compassion Through The Media Welcome to this episode, where I was able to have a "Compassionate Conversation" with a childhood friend of mine: Eli Holzman. Eli is the CEO of The Intellectual Property Corporation, which he founded in 2016. Eli is President of Sony Pictures Television, Nonfiction. I wanted to speak with Eli about therapy, and how it is represented in the media, because Eli knows media! He is a writer and executive producer who has won numerous Primetime Emmy Awards, Critic Choice Real TV Awards, and also MTV and TV Awards. He has over 75 shows that he has been the Executive Produce on, which include Undercover Boss, Project Runway, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, Free Meek, American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. We spoke about Project Runway, and how Eli filmed this at Parsons: The New School for Deign, and positive power that the show had to influence people. Eli said, "On the show something special happened. Contestants started helping each other, they weren't cut throat. They were kind." Eli shared that as he was building his first company he was creating Undercover Boss. "This helped me define my values." Eli shared how some of his employers led by fear, but he wanted to find another ways to lead! He recognized on Undercover Boss that "humans crave esteem as much as water and air. Just seeing someone receive this can touch us." Eli spoke about the current crisis in television. "Our tastes have become so broad, and there are so many options out there now." I wanted to know, what would a counseling reality show look like? We spoke about "Couple's Counseling" as one option. Eli spoke about some of the challenges of a counseling reality show. (a) people like stories were there are big changes, and drama. Counseling could be slow and incremental. (b) the topics that are covered could be very specific to the people involved. (c) TV and media are going to represent a small percetage of the population that have the personality and skills to capture the interest of an audience. Eli said he feels it could be very helpful to explore how we can monitor our bodies, and how this information can lead us to making better decisions. He also feels that it could be interesting and important to understand more about inter-generational legacies and how these are passed down and impact us. Eli spke about how our mental health is manipulated on a regular basis, perhap more than any other time in history. This is done by the computers that we carry around in our pockets (our smart phones). This technology is engineered to capture our attention, and is very deliberate. We are in a time in history where these devices in our pocket also hold all of the solutions to our problems-- all the answers to our mental and emotional health are within our reach, if we know how to search for them.
