Gillian Kocher, Director of Public Relations for the Pennsylvania SPCA checks in with Kristen about a recent rescue of over 100 cats, and an adoption event THIS weekend to help clear the shelters so that these babes can be cared for, and eventually find their furr-ever homes too. It’s kitten season…. during a pandemic. The shelter is already very full, and yet the PSPCA also just rescued over 100 cats from a hoarding situation. There are so many great cats waiting to go home with you, and this weekend is a great opportunity to come meet your new housemate in PURR-son at Philadelphia Brewing Company.  The PSPCA has partnered with North Shore Animal League of America who has generously lent their mobile adoption unit for the event. Swiffer has also offered to include this event in their ‘Adoption Sweep’, sponsoring $50 off adoption fees for 50 approved adopters. Head to Philadelphia Brewing Company from 12-5pm Saturday, June 27th, and again from 12-5pm on Sunday, June 28th. PBC has a newly expanded beautiful beer garden set up for social distancing, while serving up their special ‘Working Cat Pale Ale’, an ode to @dukethebrewerycat (who basically runs the place). Join the PSPCA, North Shore Animal League of America, and PBC for a great beer event while saving lives - or cat event while drinking beer. Whichever.  Thanks to Swiffer for their sponsorship too!

The PSPCA’s Gillian Kocher joins Kristen in studio, along with Nancy Barton, owner of Philadelphia Brewing Company. The two organizations have teamed up to plan the First Annual ‘Dine Out for Pet’s Sake’ all-day fundraising event to benefit the PSPCA’s lifesaving mission. On Wednesday, September 18th, 2019, more than 20 restaurants throughout the city will step up to help Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable animals! The concept is simple: Participating establishments will be donate 5%-10% of their sales (or more!) to the Pennsylvania SPCA. DINE OUT on Wednesday, September 18th (all day!) at participating restaurants, and a portion of every bill will help animals in Philadelphia and throughout the state! Check out the Facebook Event and the PSPCA’s website for more info.  Also, Gillian brought a very cute pup to the studio with her. Her name is Diana and she’s available for adoption at the PSPCA’s Erie Avenue location. She is a beautiful pittie (with the coloring of a Bernese Mountain Dog!) and super sweet and just wants to be loved. Will you take her home today? E-mail Kristen@957benfm.com for more information and photos of this wonderful gal.  Then, Kristen is joined by David Levy, Vice President of Artistic Operations for Opera Philadelphia to talk more about the third annual opera festival, O19! Be there as Opera Philadelphia debuts its daring new opera, Denis & Katya at The Suzanne Roberts Theatre, see The Love for Three Oranges at the Academy of Music, Semele at the Perelman Theater, Let Me Die at FringeArts, Curtis in Concert at the Curtis Institute of Music, plus so much more. Unfortunately, if you didn't already purchase your ticket, you'll have to wait until next year for this awesome event. Started in Paris 25 years ago, Dinner En Blanc is an event held at a secret location where you bring all of your own supplies and food and enjoy a dinner with a large group. Chris highlights Philadelphia Brewing Company. Although they are not new and many Philadelphians have had their beers, (including Walt Wit, Kenzinger, and Commonwealth Ciders) most have not been to their bar and tasting room located in the Kensington neighborhood, near the Huntington stop on the El.
