This is the introduction to Railfanning and AVR

This month's On The Road episode, we head west of our headquarters state of Missouri to Kansas. down the Kansas Turnpike and over lots abandon raibeds to the town of Wichita.  Wichita, Kansas used to be a center of rai for the plains, with all the cattle drives ending Wichita. Now freighttrains still rumble through but most don't stop. Passenger Servive ended years ago, a some folksare trying to restart service. The town still has it's Union Station, is semi good repair, with developers tryng to bring new life into it. Wichita is home to one of the world's biggest builder's of locomotives. Chance Rides makes a replic steam engines for lots of zoo and amusement parks. For the model train lovers, the town's Floral gardens, Botanica, the Wichita Gardems, has a beautiful railroad garden where we will be set up for this episode. May is typically the month that we all start to think about our summer plans to railfan. This week our host, ShuttletrainTED, asks you, the railfans, where is the best place to do your summer train watching from. What makes it such a great place? Do you just plan to watch? Join host Skip Waters at the Annual "Rail Watch 2011" in Folkston, GA, live from the Folkston Funnel Viewing Platform! The "Folkston Funnel" is a double track main which serves as the north/south artery for railroad traffic into and out of Florida. Every year during the first weekend of April, hundreds of railfans gather to celebrate, hang out, cook out and watch trains all day in this unique south Georgia town. They call it a "Train Watcher's Paradise". Tune-in and listen to Folkston Rail-folks talk about the fun and action at "Rail Watch 2011"!

He is also a project director for the Center for Railroad Photography and Art. His work appears frequently in Trains Magazine and other rail publications.
