This week we welcome back the dynamic duo of digital dentistry, Blake Roney and Patrick Dewey from S.I.N. 360 (https://sin360.us/) (Simplicity • Innovation • Nanotechnology) for a massive deep dive into implants, photogrammetry, and the ever-evolving world of full-arch workflows. Since their last visit in 2022, Blake has gone from new kid on the block to full-blown Exocad (https://exocad.com/) educator, and Patrick breaks down how S.I.N. has doubled down on innovation across implants, CAD/CAM, and photogrammetry. The guys walk us through the new Versalis implant line (https://sin360.us/versalis/), why one connection for all indications is a big deal for labs, and how S.I.N. is pushing efficiencies for high-volume, complex full-arch clinicians. Then comes the star of the show: the MicronMapper (https://sin360.us/micronmapper/)—a lighter, faster, more accurate photogrammetry system that doesn't just capture implants but verifies manufacturing accuracy, scans soft tissue, and reduces surgical guesswork. Blake breaks down real-world accuracy numbers, what RMSE actually means, why intraoral scanners aren't cutting it for full-arch, and how FitCheck is saving labs from misfires, wasted zirconia, and bad days. They also reveal the newest frontier: Tissue Mapper, a photogrammetry-based, scanner-free workflow that pulls bite, tissue, and implant data without fiducials or messy post-op scans. It's nerdy, innovative, and ridiculously cool for the high-volume teams ready to level up. If you love accuracy, numbers, full-arch workflows, or just really good dental tech nerding — this is your episode. Happy Holidays from Ivoclar! As the year comes to a close, all of us at Ivoclar want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible Voices From the Bench community. Thank you for your partnership, your trust, and the support you've shown throughout the year. From our Ivoclar family to yours, we wish you a joyful, healthy, and safe holiday season. May your days be merry, your nights be bright, and your smiles shine like freshly fallen snow. Ho, ho, ho — Happy Holidays from Ivoclar! Big news is coming your way in the world of CAM. Our friends at Ivoclar have teamed up with FOLLOW-ME! Technology (https://www.follow-me-tech.com/) to bring the Ivotion Denture System (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us/products/digital-processes/ivotion) into the HyperDent CAM (https://www.follow-me-tech.com/hyperdent/) workflow. That's right—your favorite pre-shaded, two-layer Ivotion discs, the ones that let you design and mill a complete denture in one seamless process with no bonding and no mess, are now moving beyond closed systems. Thanks to this new partnership, Ivotion can finally be milled on open machines through HyperDent. And it gets better: you'll first see this powerful workflow available on the Roland DWX-53 series mills (https://www.rolanddga.com/products/dental/dwx-53d)—already a staple in so many labs—as well as the Imagine iMills (https://www.imagineusa.com/legacy/s/mills/imill). If you've been waiting for a faster, cleaner, more flexible way to produce full dentures, this is it. Ivoclar and FOLLOW-ME! just made the future of denture manufacturing wide open. Get ready—HyperDent is about to change the way you mill Ivotion. Year-end chaos is here. Labs are slammed, deadlines are brutal, and mistakes are not an option. That's when dental technicians rely on the one thing that never quits: https://www.rolanddga.com/applications/dental-cad-cam. The DWX-53DC (https://www.rolanddga.com/products/dental/dwx-53dc-5-axis-dry-dental-milling-with-automatic-disc-changer) is a true workhorse—24-hour automated milling that keeps your lab running, your overhead down, and your ROI up. No redos. No downtime. Just consistent, precise results. Built on decades of Japanese engineering, Roland delivers the reliability that keeps labs sane, profitable, and on schedule. Finish the year strong with the mill you can trust. Choose Roland DGSHAPE. Precision. Reliability. Performance. Learn more at rolanddga.com Special Guests: Blake Roney and Patrick Dewey.

This week, we sit down with Seth Smith, founder of the rapidly growing lab software company Greatlab.io (https://www.greatlab.io/), and Ryan Alexander from Vitality Dental Arts (https://www.vitalitydentalarts.com/), who's been living the GreatLab life since May and has plenty to say about it. Seth shares the long, winding road from e-commerce to dentistry, to clear aligners, to scanners, and finally to building what he hopes becomes the most modern, integrated, and speed-driven LMS in the industry. He talks workflow obsession, eliminating downloads, killing paper dockets, listening to lab pain points, and why he's visited over 100 labs (and keeps going). Ryan brings the real-world perspective from a 100-tech lab that went through multiple LMS transitions before landing on GreatLab. He explains how their booking teams shrank, inbound calls dropped by 50%, audits disappeared, and technicians suddenly found computers they “didn't have” once the system made their jobs easier. From the CRM that kills phone tag to ScanHub pulling every scanner into one feed, Ryan breaks down exactly what changed on the bench, in customer service, and across production. We also dig into bad scans (yes, 20% of them), doctor communication, automatic file routing, task automation, shipping integrations, data migration fears, and why some labs should not switch systems unless they're truly ready to modernize. If you've ever wondered what a cloud-based, automation-heavy, lab-built-from-the-ground-up LMS looks like—or why another lab described GreatLab as “a Ferrari while everyone else is a Civic”—this episode lays it all out. This is a Thanksgiving special episode of the Free Outside Podcast, a mix of long-run thoughts, unpopular opinions, and one of the most meaningful adventures of my life, the Great Western Loop.I talk about why I think we are historically illiterate, why it is okay to chase goals even if they feel pointless to other people, whether turkey trots have gotten too serious, and my very important theory on whether drones killed the blimp. I also get into why self-supported FKTs matter so much to me and why I think they deserve more respect than they get. Then I rewind eight years to finishing the Great Western Loop on Thanksgiving. I break down what the Loop actually is, how I planned the massive cross-country connector from the Grand Canyon back to the PCT, why self-supported style creates better adventure, and some of the wildest moments from the entire 7,000-mile journey. From cowbell mornings on the Pacific Northwest Trail, to getting all the bikers in Yaak, Montana in trouble for cooking 20 pounds of bacon, to freezing on the CDT, navigating by map and compass on the Grand Enchantment Trail, sleeping in the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and finishing on Thanksgiving near Parker, Arizona. This adventure changed the entire direction of my life and planted the seed for every FKT that followed. This episode is brought to you by Janji at janji.com. In today's episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek, we're joined by Kristy and Annette Burns—better known as the Wander Women. About seven years ago, Kristy and Annette ditched the home with the white picket fence, retired, moved into an RV, and shifted their focus to a life centered on freedom and adventure. Since then, they've taken on the AT, PCT, CDT, Arizona Trail, Tahoe Rim Trail, the O Circuit, plus a slew of cycling and packrafting trips. We get into what it takes to keep your body ready for thru-hikes at retirement age, why downsizing has made them so much happier, the community they've found on trail, and a whole lot more. We wrap the show with what to wear when hiking in the desert, how to dry the inside of your water bladder, and the triple crown of chairs. Joe shares his family's incredible journey from Hong Kong to Philadelphia, how his parents built a small ortho lab out of a spare room, and how he grew up trimming models on a step stool before eventually returning to the lab after college. He walks us through the evolution of the business—from analog ortho, to adding fixed, to diving head-first into early CAD/CAM. Today, Young Dental is a 26-tech, multi-department full-service lab serving PA, NJ, and DE. Joe talks about the challenges of ortho work in a digital world, the need for wire-bending talent, the rise of aligners, and the struggle of balancing old-school techniques with new-school tech. He also reflects on family legacy, his dad's 45 years as a CDT, and why keeping that generation's knowledge alive matters more than ever. As NADL President, Joe dives into board service, workforce development, collaboration across organizations, and his goal of connecting labs and vendors more effectively. Plus, he gives an honest look at what it's like to step into leadership, find your voice, and leave a legacy for the next wave of techs. Of course, it wouldn't be a VFTB episode without gifts, jokes, accidental innuendo, and a rapid-fire Q&A that reveals Barb's love of tomahawks and Elvis's dream of 88-degree weather. This week, we're honored to welcome Alex Maier and Amy Robin, the creative force behind Wilderness Mindset, a Montana-based outdoor filmmaking company devoted to nature-inspired storytelling. What began as a deeply personal journey on the Continental Divide Trail has evolved into something far greater—a mission to capture the transformative power of wilderness through the lens of a camera.Alex and Amy take us on a journey through their transformation from individual adventurers to filmmaking partners documenting others' epic quests. Amy describes that pivotal moment when she nervously texted Alex about hiking the CDT together to create a mental health documentary—a question that would change both their lives. That initial leap of faith sparked what would become a lifelong partnership, both personal and professional, centered around the belief that when we explore the wilderness, we take a look within ourselves. In this episode, we explore the profound philosophy behind Wilderness Mindset, the challenges of building a passion-based business from scratch, and how their work on the Mississippi Speed Record documentary revealed the shared belief system among adventurers. Join us for a deep and moving conversation about finding purpose through nature, the courage it takes to look within, embracing synchronicity as a guide, and what it truly means to stay wild.

Technology (https://www.follow-me-tech.com/)—better known as the HyperDent (https://www.follow-me-tech.com/hyperdent/) guy. Jordan takes us on a wild ride through the world of CAM software, milling strategies, toolpaths, and the surprisingly fascinating story of how dental CAM even became what it is today. From his early days as a third-generation “dental nepo baby” to running a zirconia milling center with his dad, all the way to helping launch titanium-bar milling on Datron (https://www.datron.com/) D5 machines, Jordan's journey hits every corner of digital dentistry's evolution. He breaks down what CAM actually does in the simplest possible terms (yes, even Elvis-level simple), explains the magic behind toolpaths, tools, post-processors, and how HyperDent “drives the car” for hundreds of different mills. You'll hear how materials get validated, why some ideas labs come up with are physically impossible, and why you should ALWAYS talk to your CAM provider before releasing new materials or components into the world. Jordan also shares a behind-the-scenes look at solving problems like angulated screw channels, milling lithium disilicate pucks, and HyperDent's upcoming work on milled dentures—including Ivoclar's Ivotion processes coming to open CAM. Whether you mill every day or still think CAM is just “putting a crown in a puck,” Jordan demystifies it all with humor, honesty, and more tech insights than we've ever had on the podcast at once. * Dental Labs—The Ivoclar (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us) Flash Sale Is On! * From November 3rd to 14th, Ivoclar is bringing you unbeatable deals on the equipment that will set your lab up for success in 2026. * Upgrade your mill, your furnace, or expand your workflow—and save big while doing it! * Plus, when you purchase a milling machine (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us/products/product-list?page=1&limit=12&filters=%5B%7B%22id%22%3A%22professions%22%2C%22advancedFilter%22%3Afalse%2C%22values%22%3A%5B%22Lab%22%5D%7D%2C%7B%22id%22%3A%22categories%22%2C%22advancedFilter%22%3Afalse%2C%22value%22%3A%22Digital%20Equipment%22%7D%5D), you'll get delivery, installation, and training—all included. In today's episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek, brought to you by Topo Athletic, we are joined by Amy Hunsucker. On trail, Amy is known as "Slider" because she hikes with a trombone- something she's done for the entire triple crown. We of course learn all about this fun quirk, including which animals were most appreciative of her on-trail concerts, which parts of trail provided the best acoustics, the reactions she'd get from other hikers and the broader trail community, and her go-to on-trail trombone jams. Slider also gives us the low down on getting her sawyer certification, her trail maintenance work with the Carolina Mountain Club, hiking South Dakota's Centennial Trail, and life as a hiking guide in North Carolina. We wrap the show with the pieces of thru-hiking advice we wish we'd never given, Chaunce gives her take of whether she'd rather be alone in the woods with a man or a bear, we do the triple crown of freezer foods, I give a one-minute gear review of my current rain jacket, and a listener lectures us on how we dropped the ball on our interview with Liz Kidder. Jonathan shares how a chance gig driving for a denturist opened the door to a career he never expected, taking him from analog dentures to digital workflows, photogrammetry, and Exocad (https://exocad.com/) wizardry. In today's episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek, brought to you by LMNT, we're joined by Jeff Vonvai, known on trail as Long Strides. This conversation will put life's problems into perspective—because for the past seven years, Long Strides has been thru-hiking with stage 4 colon cancer, despite being given just a 3–6 month prognosis. Jeff shares what it's like to balance intense rounds of chemo and surgery between hikes, the challenges of rebuilding his trail legs each time he returns to the trail, and how cancer has transformed his outlook on life—saying he's happier now than he was before his diagnosis. Be ready to feel inspired. We wrap the show with the news that the Continental Divide Trail's southern terminus now requires U.S. citizenship and an Army-issued permit, how to hike the Colorado Trail on less than $800, what crime Chaunce committed to wind up in prison, and the triple crown of things that make us cringe. When a devastating fire destroyed Denture Crafters (https://www.denturecrafters.net/) a few weeks ago, lab manager Amber Rosema and general manager Daniele Collard didn't waste a single moment. From the parking lot of their burned-down lab, they began rebuilding—calling suppliers, securing space, and rallying their team to get dentures back in patients' mouths. It's the perfect opportunity to upgrade your CAM and take full advantage of the technology you already have. Plus, Nowak Dental Supplies (https://www.nowakdental.com/) is participating in the promotion and adding an exclusive bonus for NOLA Lab Fest attendees: the Multiple Instances feature at no additional cost. Don't miss your chance to see the difference in person! Join Jordan Greenberg — the “hyperDENT dude” himself — at NOLA Lab Fest, November 7–8 (https://www.nolalabfest.com/), and discover how CAM can redefine what your Roland mill can do. Special Guests: Amber Rosema and Daniele Collard.

Come find us and be on the podcast! This week, Elvis and Barb sit down with Lori Margiotta, the founder of Bookkeeper for Dentists (https://bookkeeperfordentists.com/), to talk about how labs and dental offices can grow together by focusing on one key number: case acceptance. Lori shares her journey from high school “recall girl” to practice manager, lab sales rep, and now consultant helping dental offices understand their business metrics. She breaks down how labs can help their clients track simple data like lab expenses and unbooked treatment to reveal hidden opportunities. With decades in the dental industry, Lori shows that when dentists increase their case acceptance, everyone wins — including the labs. From real-world examples to actionable advice (and a few laughs along the way), this episode is all about bridging the gap between the front desk and the bench. MICRONMAPPER from SIN360: https://sin360.us/micronmapper/ This week we chat with the hilarious and inspiring Will Varda, a second-generation dental technician, lab owner, and president of the Dental Technicians Association of BC. Will takes us on an incredible journey from his father's early days crafting crowns for Iranian royalty — complete with goat-horn hammers and plaster impressions — to the modern world of digital design, milling, and 3D printing. Along the way, he shares stories of growing up in a lab, learning every step the hard way, and how a Facebook study group and a few friends completely changed the course of his career. He also talks about the importance of community in the lab world, the balance between art and obsession, and how the right attitude (and maybe a little wine in a furry purse) can make even the toughest lab days a little brighter. Now leading the charge in his province, Will is bringing technicians together — literally — with the first-ever Dental Boat Cruise, where hhe taught about digital fundamentals through his “recipe for design” approach. From scones to splines, Will explains how mastering the basics can give you true digital freedom no matter what software you use. In this episode, Dr. Samuel B. Lee delivers one of his most expansive and paradigm-shifting teachings yet — a CDT plate-infused journey through the five major world religions, peeling back layers of distortion to reveal the sacred science at their core. From Judaism to Islam, Christianity to Hinduism, and Buddhism in between, Dr. Lee invites you to follow the golden thread of eternal truth that transcends dogma, doctrine, and division. What if the teachings of Jesus, Buddha, and Muhammad were never meant to birth religion — but remembrance? What if the crucifixion was a distortion, the chakras an incomplete map, and karma a hijacked loop? This episode boldly reclaims the original purpose of sacred traditions: to awaken the eternal flame within, not to control, separate, or suppress.Dr. Lee unpacks the hidden science of the Azuray Point, the base-12 Kathara grid, and how religion has been both the fruit and the fracture — a set of leaves disconnected from their sacred root. He also explores the financial guilt trauma embedded in religious systems, the crucifixion implant, sexual energy siphoning, and how sacred truth — once veiled — is now rising again. This is not a call to abandon your path. It's an invitation to go deeper — to move from ritual to resonance, from text to template, from belief to embodied remembrance.

In today's episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek, brought to you by LMNT, we are joined by thru-hiking power couple who've hiked more than 11,000 miles together Chris and Sara, known on trail as Endless and QB. “What haven't they hiked?” is a fair question, because it's been a lot, including the AT, the PCT (twice), CDT, CT (twice), Arizona Trail, Manaslu Circuit, Hayduke, Long Trail, Cohos Trail, Loowit Trail, Wonderland Trail, Ruby Crest Trail, Why-wash, (ahl-pah-MY-oh) / Santa Cruz Trek, the GR20, and more, believe it or not. They share the story of how they met, offer tips for making a marriage work both on trail and off, discuss how they befriended Mac from Halfway Anywhere and Viking during their many trail adventures, and explain why rafting the Grand Canyon stands out as the most epic adventure of them all. We wrap the show with news of the asshat who vandalized the Katahdin sign, the triple crown of seafoods, and definitively answer the age old question of window vs. aisle. This week we are joined by Jed Archibald for his first solo interview, and he didn't disappoint. Coming from a family deeply rooted in dentistry, his father worked closely with Dr. Gordon Christensen. Jed has built his own reputation as an innovator. In 2006 he launched Archibald Digital, (https://www.archibalddigital.com/) embracing CAD/CAM at a time when most technicians were skeptical. His philosophy? Don't just ask what digital can do now—ask what it could do. Jed also shared insights on materials, praising the underrated Empress Multi (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us/products/digital-processes/ips-empress-cad)for its beauty and reliability, and highlighting Ivoclar (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us)'s ZirCAD Prime (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us/products/digital-processes/ips-e.max-zircad-prime-family) zirconia for solving problems that plague other multilayer products. Not content with what the market offered, Jed even created his own line of 3D printing resins (https://www.archibalddigital.com/about-6)—including a stone-like model resin and a lavender-infused cast resin that makes a lab smell like a spa. Now, as the new Director of Development at Utah Valley Dental Lab (https://www.utahvalleydentallab.com/), Jed is taking on a role testing new ideas and pushing innovation without disrupting production. In this episode of Talk Heathen, Jimmy Jr. and Godless Engineer dissect another failed rapture prediction before diving deep into calls about humanism, historical syncretism, and whether a historical Jesus can even be found!Chloe in MD questions if God's existence matters, exploring post-theism. As a Norse pagan whose faith is based on “vibes,” she wonders if she is any different from rapture believers. The hosts challenge this reasoning, suggesting that while introspection is healthy, beliefs based on feelings rather than evidence can be problematic. Where does this path of deconstruction lead?Anton in WV asks if Christianity copied Mithraism. Godless Engineer explains it's not copying but **syncretism**, where different belief systems merge, clarifying Mithraism came first. Anton then pivots to simulation theory, but how does that philosophical dead-end impact our investigation of reality? Does it matter if we are in a simulation?Josh in GA argues that figures named Jesus in Josephus's work support a historical Jesus. The hosts agree the name was common but contest the biblical version, highlighting that the earliest sources like Paul rely on revelation, not history. The gospels only add more supernatural claims over time. So what's left of the original man?Thank you for joining us this week! In today's episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek brought to you by Topo Athletic, we are joined by Wesley Tils, known on trail as Megaman. Buckle in because oh boy does Megaman have an origin story. After growing up in the Mormon church, leaving the church to become a pro boxer, quitting boxing to give the church another shot and going on a missionary trip as his trial of faith, and ultimately leaving the church for good during this missionary trip, escaping onto the PCT with several church members essentially chasing him in pursuit, Megaman's path to thru-hiking was not exactly conventional. Since hitting the trails, Megaman hasn't stopped hiking, accumulating more than 15,000 miles across 18 long trails in 9 years. We learn about all his adventures, including hikes of the Maah Daah Hey Trail, River to River Trail, his self-made Mexico to Canada Trail called “the fourth crown route, and a goosebump inducing story about an aggressive encounter with a grizzly bear on the CDT. We wrap up the show with our one-minute elevator pitch to convince aliens that humanity deserves to survive, the triple crown of cable channels, share the news of Tara Dower's latest FKT, and deliver a five-minute one-minute gear review of a new free-standing tent from Hyperlite Mountain Gear. In today's episode of Backpacker Radio, presented by The Trek brought to you by LMNT, we're joined by Jeff Oliver, better known on trail and online as IBTAT. In addition to building a large following on YouTube and Instagram, IBTAT will be a familiar voice to long-time Backpacker Radio listeners, as he was part of our first season of Trail Correspondents. We dive into IBTAT's story, including his journey to 12 years of sobriety — going from drinking two fifths of liquor a day to cutting alcohol cold turkey overnight, and the dangerous side effects that followed. We also cover his more than 11,000 miles of trekking over the past seven years, including hikes of the Triple Crown trails, the Scottish National Trail, the C&O Canal Towpath, and Sweden's Kungsleden Trail. Lastly, being a talented photographer and videographer, IBTAT shares expert advice on choosing the right camera and capturing quality photos and video during your hikes. Sassafras, Double Dip and I wrap the show with a call for this year's AT thru-hikers to take the 2025 Appalachian Trail Survey, we opine on what the AT will look like in 2035 (and look back at how it's changed over the past decade), we find the precise point at which a walk becomes a hike, Sass and Katie share how they got started in the Outdoor Industry (providing advice and inspiration for those who want to follow in their tracks), and we do the Triple Crown of cooking tips and hacks.
