Meanwhile, the Bears now call Caleb Williams the "Iceman" for his walk off 46-yard strike. Lamar Jackson is being held together with duct tape and bubble gum. And Trevor Lawrence is actually for real. For real. Plus, we have part two of our chat with Chris Long and our good friend Trai Essex from The Snap Count stops by to chat about the crazy ending to the Steelers/Lions game. This week sees the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, the tenth narrative feature directed by James Cameron, and that seemed like an auspicious enough number to use it as an excuse to celebrate. Alternate Ending's resident Avatar maniac, Tim Brayton, is joined by a trio of fellow Cameron-heads: Zev Burrows, Andrew Milne, and Caleb Wimble. And the four of them dilly-dally for as much time as Ol' Jim himself might do in going over his directorial career, and some of his other interests, culminating in our picks for the best films of his slender but massively popular filmography. As a warm up, the team has an all-2020s movie roundtable this time: Caleb sees Oscar hopeful tearjerker Hamnet, Andrew raises and then crushes our hopes with the samurai drama Tornado, Zev puzzles around with Yorgos Lanthimos's newest weird fiction, Bugonia, and Tim deals with one of the decade's most confusing distribution platforms to see Kurosawa Kiyoshi's 45 minute filmlet Chime, by request of Patreon subscriber... Caleb Wimble. Well how about that.
Brought to you in partnership with Collins AerospaceAs Europe ramps up defence investment in the wake of the Ukraine crisis, the spotlight is turning to how nations sustain their growing fleets. In this episode of Critical Care, produced by Shephard Studio in partnership with Collins Aerospace, we travel to Heidelberg, Germany — home to a regional sustainment hub that's proving crucial for fast, local support across Europe and beyond. We hear from Holger Eckstein, Michael Mayer and Michael Nelson – leaders within Collins' sustainment operations – as they explain how the Heidelberg service centre is handling everything from Eurofighter and Tornado repairs to complex electronics for helicopters and land platforms. They reveal how deep regional expertise, long-term partnerships with primes like Airbus and BAE Systems, and close ties to international customers are transforming the speed and scale of military readiness. From reducing reliance on transatlantic repair cycles to enabling more responsive support for customers like the Royal Saudi Air Force, this episode explores how Heidelberg's model of forward sustainment is setting a new benchmark. We also look at how Europe's fragmented defence landscape is starting to shift towards more unified, collaborative approaches — not just for procurement, but for long-term support. What emerges is a clear message: rapid, reliable sustainment isn't a nice-to-have. It's essential for operational credibility in a fast-changing world.Coming up next: we head to the Netherlands to see what happens when Collins' engineers go embedded with the Royal Netherlands Air Force, working side by side on the hangar floor.

In September 2023, then St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones initiated a Guaranteed Basic Income pilot program that gave $500 direct cash payments to qualifying families across the city. Six months into the program, a lawsuit from members of the Holy Joe Society halted its funding for one month. Despite the pause in payments, researchers and city leaders said the pilot program was successful and provided a public benefit in addition to helping families meet their basic needs. Midwest Newsroom Reporting Fellow Naomi Delkamiller discusses the impact of the GBI pilot program in St. Louis.

What happens when a knife reviewer gets tired of waiting for the perfect blade? He designs it himself. This week on The Knife Junkie Podcast, host Bob DeMarco talks with K.C. Spiron, the founder of Tempest Knives and host of the popular KnivesFAST YouTube channel. Spiron shares how reviewing hundreds of production folders taught him exactly what he wanted in an EDC knife and how that knowledge turned into a thriving knife company. The conversation covers how Spiron started KnivesFAST to create shorter, more focused knife reviews for people who did not have time for long-form content. But as he handled more knives, patterns emerged."As I saw more, it became clear to me what I really liked and what I did not like," Spiron explains. That led him to start designing knives that matched his ideal specifications, with a heavy focus on ergonomics and practical features like contoured handles and nested liner locks.Spiron also reveals a new collaboration with Kubey, which is producing a fixed-blade version of his popular Microburst design in 14C28N steel. He teases upcoming releases, including the Tornado model in mid-January.The episode also touches on the manufacturing debate, with Spiron explaining how his business model supports American workers and companies even while using overseas production facilities. Most importantly, he shares the pure joy of seeing his designs become real products that people carry every day.Visit the full show notes and links at https://www.theknifejunkie.com/645.Connect with K.C. BT & Sal dive into the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors, which are heating up with reports that the superstar wants the Knicks. The fiery debate centers on the New York Knicks' strategy: Giannis In, Karl-Anthony Towns Out. Sal argues that keeping the overpaid and defensively exploitable KAT makes the trade pointless, even with Giannis. They discuss the likelihood of OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges being the necessary price, and whether a Brunson-Giannis-Towns trio could ever work. Later, the conversation pivots to the New York Giants' front office turmoil, where Sal and BT react to a report from Ian O'Connor asserting that the organization made a "bad situation worse" by retaining General Manager Joe Schoen, who is now reportedly "leading the way" for the next head coach search. The hosts argue that Schoen must be removed to facilitate a clean break.

Taylor isn't just hype, he's the blueprint. We trace Taylor's fingerprints across bourbon history, from steam‑heated warehouses and Bottled‑in‑Bond standards to the modern lineup that keeps collectors camping in line. Then we put the whiskeys in the glass and let the ratings fly.We start with Small Batch and unpack why it punches above its weight: a vanilla‑forward nose with apricot and cherry cordial, rich legs, and a medium, oak‑tinged finish that nudges for another sip. From there we step into the heavy hitters—Single Barrel precision, Barrel Proof power, and a Straight Rye that swerves minty and bright—and talk about what changes in the glass as proof, grain, and warehouse floors shift. We also spotlight the fabled limiteds: Four Grain's candy‑red fruit and clove, Amaranth's nutty depth, 18 Year Marriage's layered elegance, Cured Oak and Seasoned Wood's stave science, Tornado Surviving's weather‑worn magic, and the Warehouse C release that reads like dessert without losing its backbone.Along the way, we share tasting notes you can actually use, debate our house scoring system, and even land a rare perfect mark for Four Grain thanks to that long, fruit‑laden finish. If you're new to the line, you'll leave with a smart game plan for what to hunt first. If you're deep in the racks, you'll pick up nuances that make your next pour more rewarding. “If a single camera setting can change how you see yourself, what else are you missing when you look at the world around you?” In this eye-opening episode of The JB and Sandy Show, JB, Sandy, and Tricia invite listeners to see the familiar in a whole new light—starting with the perfect selfie. Inspired by a viral Brendan Fraser moment, the hosts reveal a simple iPhone trick that transforms even the most “unphotogenic” among us. Tricia confesses, “I hope I'm the mirror version of me and not the photo version of me,” as the crew experiments with portrait mode, contour lighting, and the elusive timer feature, blending humor and humility in their quest for the ultimate self-portrait. But the episode quickly zooms out from the personal to the global. How dirty—or downright filthy—is Austin compared to the world's most notorious cities? The team dives into a surprising list of the filthiest places on earth, debating whether Budapest, Paris, or Las Vegas deserve their reputations. Tricia, a seasoned traveler, shares, “There were definitely some spots where you're like, hmm, smells like pee right here. But I mean, no worse than…New York or New Orleans.” The conversation is peppered with stories of neighborhood clean-up heroes, the realities of urban life, and the quirks of city rankings. From there, the show takes a nostalgic and sometimes hilarious turn into schoolyard memories—when “getting a lick” from the principal was a real possibility—and the strange wisdom of the Farmer's Almanac. The hosts question the science (or lack thereof) behind long-range weather predictions, marveling at the Almanac's “secret formula” and the enduring power of folklore. “They claim an accuracy rate of 80 to 85 percent. I'm going with Jim Spencer over the farmer man,” Sandy jokes, as the group debates whether to trust meteorologists or the bushiness of a squirrel's tail.Other highlights include:The world's cleanest cities and the surprising return of caning in Singapore.Animal instincts and what squirrels can teach us about preparing for winter.Tornado drills, childhood fears, and the unpredictability of Texas weather. With sharp wit, relatable stories, and a dash of curiosity, this episode challenges listeners to look beyond the surface—whether it's a selfie, a city, or a weather forecast. You'll laugh, you'll reminisce, and you might just see the world a little differently.Notable Quotes & Memorable Moments“I hope I'm the mirror version of me and not the photo version of me.”“There were definitely some spots where you're like, hmm, smells like pee right here.”“They claim an accuracy rate of 80 to 85 percent. There have been talks of a large storm moving in after many tornadoes had already touched down in the western part of the state earlier that day. Just before midnight, the rain calms down as the clouds lower, and the tornado sirens begin. I sit outside recording the dissonant yet beautiful cacophony of the overlapping sirens while neighbours step outside to asses the situation before the storm picks up and everyone makes their way to take shelter as the tornado touches down nearby. Sheltering in the basement as the tornado touches down, your ears pop as if an airplane is taking off due to the rapid change in pressure. The tornado passed by, leaving my childhood home unscathed, but others in the state were not so lucky. Days after these storms, the City of Louisville experienced one of the worst floods in its history. Recorded by Andrew Ramsey.

In this week's episode of the Carolina Weather Group, we revisit one of the most catastrophic weather events in modern U.S. history: the April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak — a generational severe weather disaster that produced more than 60 tornadoes in Alabama alone and altered the course of severe weather communication forever. We're hear from ABC 33/40 Chief Meteorologist James Spann, who takes us behind the scenes of that day — the forecasting, the wall-to-wall coverage, the failures in communication infrastructure, and the lessons that still shape severe weather messaging today. But this year's anniversary carries new significance.⭐ Special Segment: A Newly Discovered EF-2 Tornado — Identified 14 Years LaterAs part of ongoing research into the April 27, 2011 outbreak, meteorologists have just confirmed another previously undocumented EF-2 tornado that occurred during the event. This additional tornado — uncovered nearly two decades later — highlights how massive, chaotic, and difficult to analyze the outbreak truly was. We'll break down:How this tornado went undetected for 14 yearsWhat new data and methodologies led to its discoveryWhat this means for the official April 27 tornado countWhy reanalysis of historic outbreaks still matters in 2025This new finding adds an entirely new chapter to an event many thought had already been fully documented.

In this episode, I unpack the question - could much of the frustration and difficulty in dating and mating be attributed to (at least in part) to hyper-elite women practicing what is known as ‘Reproductive Suppression'?Vogue published an article titled ‘Is Having a Boyfriend Lame?' Which prompted Rob Henderson to put forth his hypothesis about Reproductive Suppression in this brilliant piece titled ‘Girl Boss Gatekeeping' - https://www.robkhenderson.com/p/girlb... I draw on research from Rob Henderson and Dr. Dani Sulikowski as I break down female intragroup conflict and why all the body positivity, you don't need a man, and red flag culture that seems like it's in solidarity with women might actually be a covert strategy to keep women from finding mates.Listen in to learn about how high-status females (including chimps) keep low-status females away from mates, how modern tech amplifies ‘aspirational' lifestyles, why rom-coms feel like castration for men, how dark-triad traits correlate with anti-natalism, and much more. This one is an evolutionary psychology nerding out episode - enjoy!TIMESTAMPS:00:53 —Intro 01:03 —One on one coaching spots03:15 — The Question of Elite Women as "Mean Girls"05:00 — The Proximate and Ultimate Reasons for Elite Women's Behavior06:16 — Intergroup Conflict and Covert Passive Aggression in Women 07:36 — Unconscious Competitive Strategy to Keep Women from Mates 10:12 — Girl Boss, Body Positivity, & Female Entitlement 13:16 — Technology, Consumerism, and the Tornado of Reproductive Suppression14:37 — Heartbreak of Women Who Prioritised Career Over Family 17:00 — Reproductive Sabotage: Disrupting Women's Mating Preferences 18:01 — Demonising Traditional Masculine Traits & Rom-Com Castration20:50 — Proximate vs. Ultimate Summary & Lying to Women21:58 — Elite Women's Access to Resources and Protection23:55 — Male Envy and Psychopathic Insanity 24:50 — Dark Triad Traits and Lack of Introspection25:52 — The Frustration of double standards27:16 — Historical Examples: Elizabeth Cady Stanton & Victoria Woodhull 28:54 — The Narrative of Oppression vs. Reality for Elite Women 29:57 — The Twisting of Pain into Man Envy (Betty Friedan) 31:17 — Conclusion & Call to Action for Harmony32:24 — Outro___________________________If you found some value today then help me spread the word!
