Guests: Dr. Steven Ackerman and Dr. Jonathan MartinFor most of us, weather talk is a quick chat about the weekend forecast or a snowy commute. But in Wisconsin, “The Weather Guys” have turned those conversations into something much bigger — a beloved radio show that brings science, stories, and a touch of humor to the airwaves. For years, they've been breaking down everything from blizzards to climate change, making meteorology both accessible and fun. Today, we'll sit down with Dr. Steven Ackerman and Dr. Jonathan Martin to hear how their show began, what keeps listeners tuning in, and why Wisconsin weather makes for some of the best conversations around.Chapters00:00 The Birth of Weather Talk00:45 How They Became Weather Geeks03:02 Research Insights and Contributions08:08 Engaging the Public Beyond Academia11:44 Break 111:45 The Importance of Public Engagement14:12 The Dynamics of Show Planning15:29 Memorable Questions from Callers17:00 Balancing Complexity in Communication18:38 Break 218:40 Wisconsin Weather: A Unique Landscape21:30 The Changing Landscape of Weather Communication24:35 Advice for Young Meteorologists27:21 The Future of Weather and AISee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
The Nolan family in St. Louis has been on a long road to recovery since an EF3 tornado tore the roof off their O'Fallon neighborhood home on May 16. We check in with mom Gloria Nolan and her 13-year-old daughter Dylan about how their family's been navigating busy schedules, a new school year, ongoing house repairs and questions they still have about what's next.
The EF3 tornado that ravaged parts of St. Louis six months ago devastated thousands of homes and businesses — and a dozen buildings in the St. Louis Public Schools district. Seven schools were so severely damaged that students were displaced. Now, SLPS administrators plan to have the schools either reopened or renovated by December 2026. STLPR's Hiba Ahmed discusses the impact of the school closures, what the plan to reopen looks like and what the community's response has been in the six months since the tornado.
Six months after an EF3 tornado devastated parts of St. Louis, affected residents are still dealing with debris. Others are just now getting their roofs repaired. Without adequate support to rebuild and repair, some are left asking themselves: “What level of degradation to my home am I willing to live with long term?” STLPR engagement producer Paola Rodriguez shares notes from recent conversations with survivors of the May 16 tornado.
In hour 1 of The Mark Reardon Show, Mark discusses the latest comments from the former St Louis CEMA Director Sarah Russell on the failures to sound the sirens during the May 16th tornado in St Louis. Mark is then joined by Phil Holloway, a Fox News Legal Analyst in Atlanta, the Former Assistant District Attorney and a former Police Officer. He's later joined by Tom Sullivan, a longtime public watchdog. He discusses the inept reporting on St Louis County's budget deficit.

Alderlady Shameem Clark Hubbard joins KMOX's Sean Malone with a look at the recovery, 6 months after the tornado that tore through North St Louis.
It's been six months since a tornado hit St. Louis and damaged more than five thousand buildings and homes. Residents and local officials say the Trump administration's new policy on federal disaster assistance has meant they have been left to do the work traditionally done by FEMA.For sponsor-free episodes of Consider This, sign up for Consider This+ via Apple Podcasts or at plus.npr.org. Episode NotesEpisode 96: Matthew 8-9 - Reporting Safe From a Cross-Reference TornadoNovember 11, 2025 - Host: Dr. Gregory HallIn this episode we'll be introducing you to the idea of a cross-reference tornado. That's the term I've given to those Bible stories that send you spinning through several other passages in rapid succession. It's a cross-reference tornado… and so hold on to Toto… cause were not in Kansas anymore. Resources Referenced and/or Read:Morris, L. (1992). The Gospel according to Matthew. W.B. Eerdmans; Inter-Varsity Press. - "By casting out demons outside Israel, Jesus shows that his authority is not limited by geography, ethnicity, or ritual purity. Evil spirits recognize and submit to him even in foreign soil — implying that God's reign is breaking into all creation, not just within the covenant land. This anticipates the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18–20), where the resurrected Christ claims, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” and sends his disciples “to all nations.” The Gerasene exorcism is an early foreshadowing of that global mission." Lindsey, R. (2009) 2nd ed. Jesus, Rabbi and Lord: A Lifetime's Search for the Meaning of Jesus' Words. Jerusalem Perspective, LLC.— specifically in chapter 13 titled “Healing Everywhere.” Available at www.JerusalemPerspective.comDr. Halvor Ronning discussed Dr. Robert Lindsey's work on my first trip to Israel in 2007. We were in the synagogue in Capernaum. Dr. Robert L. Lindsey treats Matthew 9:2 in his bookRead... but not used in this episode: Ingolfsland, D. (2004). Review of Christianity in the Making, vol. 1: Jesus Remembered by James D. G. Dunn. Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, 47(4), 715. "… in his discussion of a passage in which Jesus heals a paralyzed man and announces that the man's sins are forgiven (Mark 2, Matthew 9, Luke 5), Dunn argues that the passive form of the verb (ἀψἰδνται) shows that Jesus was not usurping a prerogative that belonged only to God, but was simply announcing forgiveness the way a modern priest would declare a penitent sinner forgiven. According to Dunn, the subsequent protest by the religious leadership occurred simply because Jesus exceeded his authority by pronouncing forgiveness outside of the Temple cult."Show Music:Intro/Outro - "Growth" by Armani Delos SantosTransition Music - produced by Jacob A. Confira no Morning Show desta terça-feira (11): O deputado federal Guilherme Derrite alterou o relatório do Projeto de Lei Antifacção impondo um novo limite à atuação da Polícia Federal e do Ministério Público em investigações contra o crime organizado. Essas e outras notícias você confere no Morning Show.

The May 16 tornado left court buildings in the city of St. Louis and St. Louis County untouched. But hundreds of people associated with the criminal legal system – attorneys, defendants, judges and court personnel alike – suffered damage to their homes or offices.
