This episode is a discussion about modeling the 1970s era. What was good about it, plus how we conveyed to our visitors that the layout is set in the 1970s. The era before the mega-mergers and the caboose and boxcars could still be found in every train. David Hamilton MMR models the CB&Q/BN mainline between the Twin Cities and Galesburg during the 1970-74 timeframe.Ken Borowski MMRi models the Clinchfield in the mid-1970s.Thomas Gasior MMR hosts this episode. Our sponsor is Model Railroader and Foamer Speed Dating Events.
In this episode, the hosts discuss the topic of rebuilding a model railroad. They explore reasons why someone might want to tear down and rebuild their layout, such as wanting to change the track plan, improve operation reliability, or create more realistic scenery. They emphasize the importance of planning and considering factors like locomotive size and track spacing. The hosts also encourage beginners to be open to the idea of rebuilding their first layout as they gain more experience and discover their preferences. In this conversation, the speakers discuss the process of rebuilding a model railroad layout. They emphasize the importance of focusing on the functionality and practicality of the layout, rather than getting caught up in external details. They also discuss the benefits of planning and visualizing the layout before laying down track, and the importance of not being afraid to restart or make changes. The speakers provide tips for salvaging track and turnouts during the rebuilding process, and stress the importance of patience and not rushing the process. They also mention the need to consider scale and standards when planning the layout, and the importance of seeking advice from experienced model railroaders. The conversation concludes with a discussion about the speaker's own layout and upcoming plans. In this episode, we discuss what makes us anxious. What fears do you have that keep you from building that layout or model? Is there not enough room? Do you not want to waste material or time? Do you not have the skills? This episode's crew includes Joe Binish, Ken Borowski, and Greg Dahl, and it is hosted by Thomas Gasior MMR. Sponsored by: The person who models stuff no one cares about.
Chris Wehman is becoming an increasingly popular guest on ModelersLife with a fabulous N-Scale layout, tons of enthusiasm for the hobby, unparalleled railfanning videographer skills, devoted to replicating model railroad operations and a burning desire to make this hobby of model railroading, as much fun for every around him as it is for himself. Well, it turns out he's now a bona fide, YouTube influencer in the hobby of model railroading featuring Scale Trains N-Scale, SD 40–2 on his layout and while hosting a very informative video with tons of great information about the locomotive. This podcast was lots of fun to record, and it'll be even more fun to listen to. Thanks for Listening!!

Twice a year, there's a model train museum in Roslindale that opens up to the public to show off railroads of years past and present. WBZ's Jay Willett is all aboard with that.
Many model railroad lovers have setups in their basement, a bedroom, or the garage, but in Roslindale, model train enthusiasts have spent decades creating a museum dedicated to the craft of creating intricate train layouts! The members of the Bay State Model Railroad Museum love to lay track, paint, build, and create, and the public will get soon get a chance to see their work up close and personal. Jeremy Hartwell, President of the Museum, joins Nichole this week to talk about their work, the layouts they have on display, and their efforts to connect with their community.

Tillsonburg, Tillsonburg, my back still aches when I hear that word. However, one thing that Tillsonburg does have, is one of the best model railroad shops in all of Canada, ideally located about two hours from Toronto, Buffalo and Detroit. Our very own, Lorne James and his wife Sara are the proud owners of Otter Valley Railroad and decided to host a day long show for some of the best manufacturers in the hobby. The AML Nation decided to send one of its crack reporters to this event for interviews and what's happening in the hobby. None of those people were available so instead they sent the Evel Overlord, and he got a chance to talk with several of the attendees. It's a great podcast, so grab yourself a big bowl of shredded sales receipts, all cool glass of left-over soda and enjoy!!
For this week's Roaming St. Louis segment, KMOX host Scott Jagow traveled to Webster Groves, home to the 85-year-old Big Bend Model Railroad Club. It started during the first year of World War II (1939) in a train depot and their train layout is still there today. The last time real trains made stops at that station was 1966! Scott chats with one of the members, Kenneth Rimmel, about the club and station's histories plus this holiday season, there are plenty of chances to see the trains running.
Back in the studio is a newly discovered AML talent with a resume that would impress any railfan, modeler or locomotive engineer in just about any generation. Mike May has been a railfan his whole life, a steam and diesel engineer for about half his life, the guy in charge of the “Polar Expess” Christmas extravaganza and now has decided to dip his toe into model railroad manufacturing. About ten years ago Mike began building my third layout, the White Pass & Yukon Route. The railroad is an unusual prototype which led to many challenges and solutions along the way. This turned into an idea to start offering high quality kits of prototypes that haven't been available for this unique railroad. Hopefully these kits can help others start modeling the WP&YR or find great freelance homes for them as well.
In this episode, we discuss what it takes to be a Yardmaster at an operation session. Our crew has years of experience in this role. Sometimes, they do great, and sometimes not so great. We're checking out a few samples we got last week including this totally adorable traffic light for architectural models. It has a common anode and three cathode wires, that make for easy control. The wires are super skinny but we poked em into a solderless breadboard to make this demo in Arduino. We also got a 6-pogo-pin clip that could be useful for programming boards that don't need a full jig. #stoplight #arduino #adafruit Visit the Adafruit shop online - http://www.adafruit.com ----------------------------------------- LIVE CHAT IS HERE! http://adafru.it/discord Adafruit on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/adafruit Subscribe to Adafruit on YouTube: http://adafru.it/subscribe New tutorials on the Adafruit Learning System: http://learn.adafruit.com/ -----------------------------------------
