(00:00 - 2:29) It's Wednesday! It's National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day! We talked about the pets we have had over the years. LBF had 3 cats and 2 dogs. Cat's names Fresca, Ring Ding, Cat and Kitty. And the dogs Molly, and Poor Dead Norman. (2:29 - 6:31) You'd think you'd want to tell your origin story of when you met. Well not Jordon Hudson, LBF thinks they might have met in a very odd way! (6:31 - 11:04) A few teens in Needham are going viral thanks to a rejection cake. The girls stuck flags of the colleges they got rejected from on a cake. This trend has got over 5 million views. We think they should have rejection cakes for everything! (11:04 - 16:19) Don't have a Real ID yet. The clock is ticking, LBF isn't worried one bit, she even says that she won't get one until it all dies down. All this and more on the ROR Morning Show with Bob Bronson and LBF Podcast. In this week's episode, we had the pleasure of speaking with Leah Craig Fieser, Executive Director at Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. In honor of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day we are interviewing Leah Craig Fieser, the Executive Director of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville, NC. We invited Leah to speak with us about her team as one of our goals is to bring awareness to adopting senior pets, and chose Brother Wolf, as I adopted my senior pup, Weezie from their rescue in 2019. Weezie was a bit older than 10 years old at the time, but still has the energy of a 6-year-old :) I am dedicated to raising awareness about adopting senior pets as they have often, like Weezie, been in family homes for many years, and adjusting to a shelter can be difficult. While they may come with unique needs, animal rescues and shelters can work with you to find the right match for you and your family, and a senior pet can be a wonderful companion - I know my senior pup has been a welcome addition to the family. Show Highlights 1) Leah speaks to how she has helped build communication channels and fostered feedback from all key stakeholders (17:42) 2) How Leah and the team have managed change while fostering their organizational culture (27:29) 3) Creating the line of sight from an individual's role to the broader vision and strategy. Hear how diverse communication actions implemented as small steps help build a stronger communication process over time. (33:46) 4) Mapping your ecosystem - how does Brother Wolf partner with other organizations to amplify their shared mission of animal welfare. It is not an understatement to say that animals have massively changed our lives for the better. The effects they create to our wellbeing is one of the many significant reasons why they deserve all the love and care of the world. So why not pay them back? Very timely for this episode is the upcoming National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day. Jason Wrobel and Whitney Lauritsen celebrate by bringing up this very necessary topic of adoption and how we could change the lives of many homeless and at-risk shelter animals by giving them a chance at living a happy, healthy, and protected life. They share their own stories that bring awareness to our relationships with animals, highlighting the importance of being conscious of the food we take and the products and even the language we use. Furthermore, Jason and Whitney greatly emphasize why we should adopt and not shop. They enlighten us on how breeders endanger animals and how we could, in turn, do our part to stop that from further happening. Save a life by adopting a shelter animal. Mary McGinley meets up with prolific author D.L. Carter this week on The Leftscape. D.L. Carter, who hails from the Australian Outback, has been telling stories before she could even write. Her fanciful tales grew nonstop from a child's imagination through Doctor Who and Star Trek fan fiction and into her many titles including Ridiculous!, Obstreperous, The Use of Changing Magic, and First Destroy All Giant Monsters. She speaks with Mary about her works in Regency romance, fantasy, mystery, and science fiction, as well as misogyny in history, humor, the creative process, and the very demanding voices in her head. At the top of the show, Wendy Sheridan gives us the week's celebrations. By far the most discussed is Hairball Awareness Day (April 25th). A few others have potential: National Superhero Day (April 28th), Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, Bugs Bunny Day, National Honesty Day (April 30th). The news in this episode still held the pre-Mueller Report jitters and speculation. Recorded just after Julian Assange's arrest, the discussion reveals that the largest portion of everyone's concern seems to go to Julian Assange's cat. Robin Renée recognizes the powerful positive influence and complicated legacy of the late rapper Nipsey Hussle. Later, she shares a poem from her NaPoWriMo efforts, plus some others on themes of poetry, politics, sex, loss, and longing. Things to do: Get books by D. L. Carter. See Embassy Cat on Instagram. Watch Nipsey Hussle: A Celebration of Life. Find poetry and other thoughts on Robin Renée's woefully neglected blog. Spread the word with a Leftscape T-shirt and mug!
