(00:00 - 2:29) It's Wednesday! It's National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day! We talked about the pets we have had over the years. LBF had 3 cats and 2 dogs. Cat's names Fresca, Ring Ding, Cat and Kitty. And the dogs Molly, and Poor Dead Norman. (2:29 - 6:31) You'd think you'd want to tell your origin story of when you met. Well not Jordon Hudson, LBF thinks they might have met in a very odd way! (6:31 - 11:04) A few teens in Needham are going viral thanks to a rejection cake. The girls stuck flags of the colleges they got rejected from on a cake. This trend has got over 5 million views. We think they should have rejection cakes for everything! (11:04 - 16:19) Don't have a Real ID yet. The clock is ticking, LBF isn't worried one bit, she even says that she won't get one until it all dies down. All this and more on the ROR Morning Show with Bob Bronson and LBF Podcast. Hello…this is Bo Kauffmann of Remax in Winnipeg, with your real estate news for…  Sunday, April 30th, 2023…   Today is, National Oatmeal cookie day, Nat. Bugs Bunny Day and National Adopt a shelter pet day   Let's give a shoutout to that last reference, the Shelter-Pet adoption day. Here in Winnipeg we are privileged to have Western Canada's largest ‘for-life' pet shelter in the form of D'Arcy's Animal Rescue Centre, located at 730 Century St. In operation for over 22 yrs, D'arcys ARC has saved over 16,000 cats and dogs.   As a registered charity, your donations are tax deductible, so please join me in supporting this wonderful cause.   Winnipegs spring market, although delayed, is starting to heat up.  Here are a couple of sales in the past week:   2 story home in River part south was listed at $400K and sold for 61K OVER asking.   A side by side in All Seasons Estates sold for $320K,  which was 30K over asking.   A 900 ft bungalow in West Ft Garry sold for 77k over asking   Even homes outside of the city are getting some love:  1300 ft bungalow near Ile Des Chenes on a 1 acre lot sold for 30K over asking.   A common refrain I hear from buyers  is:  “I'll never get involved in a bidding war”.  Truth bomb:  don't kid yourself.  If you go out and LOVE a house, most buyers would put in an offer and voila….you're in a bidding war, like it or not.   Who is winning these bidding wars?  The buyers who are best prepared and ready to go.  Call me right now to set up a free home buyer consultation, either in person or via zoom.   204-333-2202   Add us to your Daily Routine on Alexa.  Go here to add to Alexa in the Canadian Skill Store. In this week's episode, we had the pleasure of speaking with Leah Craig Fieser, Executive Director at Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. In honor of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day we are interviewing Leah Craig Fieser, the Executive Director of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville, NC. We invited Leah to speak with us about her team as one of our goals is to bring awareness to adopting senior pets, and chose Brother Wolf, as I adopted my senior pup, Weezie from their rescue in 2019.    Weezie was a bit older than 10 years old at the time, but still has the energy of a 6-year-old :)   I am dedicated to raising awareness about adopting senior pets as they have often, like Weezie, been in family homes for many years, and adjusting to a shelter can be difficult. While they may come with unique needs, animal rescues and shelters can work with you to find the right match for you and your family, and a senior pet can be a wonderful companion -  I know my senior pup has been a welcome addition to the family.  Show Highlights  1)  Leah speaks to how she has helped build communication channels and fostered feedback from all key stakeholders (17:42) 2)  How Leah and the team have managed change while fostering their organizational culture (27:29) 3) Creating the line of sight from an individual's role to the broader vision and strategy. Hear how diverse communication actions implemented as small steps help build a stronger communication process over time. (33:46) 4) Mapping your ecosystem - how does Brother Wolf partner with other organizations to amplify their shared mission of animal welfare. It is not an understatement to say that animals have massively changed our lives for the better. The effects they create to our wellbeing is one of the many significant reasons why they deserve all the love and care of the world. So why not pay them back? Very timely for this episode is the upcoming National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day. Jason Wrobel and Whitney Lauritsen celebrate by bringing up this very necessary topic of adoption and how we could change the lives of many homeless and at-risk shelter animals by giving them a chance at living a happy, healthy, and protected life. They share their own stories that bring awareness to our relationships with animals, highlighting the importance of being conscious of the food we take and the products and even the language we use. Furthermore, Jason and Whitney greatly emphasize why we should adopt and not shop. They enlighten us on how breeders endanger animals and how we could, in turn, do our part to stop that from further happening. Save a life by adopting a shelter animal. Dogs are commonly called ‘man's best friend', but according to Humane Society of the United States surveys, it's time canines start believing the saying-- cats rule and dogs drool. It is estimated that there are 93.6 million cats in the United States, while dogs are barking up the tree with a mere 77.5 million in their pack. Thanks to You Tube, cats are garnering the respect they deserve. Cats can scuba dive, play patty cake, tickle the ivories of a piano and chase bears away from their backyards. But they are still misunderstood. If you have been thinking of adopting your first cat or adding another to your clowder, my guest, veterinarian Jane Brunt, executive director of the CATalyst Council and true ailurophile, will give us some pointers and tell us more about ‘National Adopt a Cat Month' plus she will explain why cats are like potato chips, who can have just one? It sounds like a bizarre urban legend, but unfortunately, it is not. An increasing number of dogs--and people--are being electrocuted by stray voltage from faulty streetlights or underground wiring throughout the five boroughs of New York City. The topic first gained national attention with the tragic death of a young college student named Jodie Lane, who in the winter of 2003 lost her life on a street in Greenwich Village while walking her dog. Since then, several other incidents have been reported. The most recent dog victim was a Husky named Sebastian in Long Island City, Queens. In this show we bring you to an emotional press conference where one grieving dog owner announced a lawsuit against Con Edison, the power company that supplies electricity to the city, for what she alleges was the wrongful death of her dog, Mushy. Then, in honor of National Adopt-A-Shelter Cat Month, we speak with Kitty Kind, a member of New York City’s Mayor’s Alliance for New York City’s Animals, and the special challenges the city faces in finding homes for what seems to be an endless supply of cats coming from all areas of the city.
